Brendan Taylor, the former Zimbabwe captain accepted four charges under the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption Code and one separate charge of violating the ICC's anti-doping code, which led to his suspension from all forms of cricket for three and a half years. Even though this was inevitable, I think it was too harsh. I commend Brendan for taking the initiative and accepting the consequences.

Which means basically his cricket career is over. He is already 35 years of age and three and half years of suspension means a nail in the coffin. Two charges against him, for not informing the authorities when bookies approached him and then another one is doping charges, i never thought they will be checking for doping but he was caught in the test for using cocaine.

Even if he gets a reduced sentence, it will be over 2 years, which means he will not play again.

Brendan Taylor is a very underrated player and it is unfortunate that his career is ending in this way. Everyone knows the hardships Zimbabwean players are going through and therefore I won't be surprised if some of the players fell victim to bookies. The ICC is also blind to the complaints from the players. There is simply no accountability from the cricket board. 90% of the funds they receive from the ICC gets stolen and in the end players are left to fend for themselves. Sad to see another great player going down in this manner.

Law enforcement, Cricketing board and ICC has bigger role to play and biggest loser. I have sympathy for cricketers like Taylor due to downfall but he wasn't some Saint. He took 15k and doing his usual cocaine stuff and then fell into blackmail fiasco with some Indian businessman aka fixture. Every international players even club cricketers are regularly briefed by their board and organization in regards of fixing, honeytrap etc.

Well, this is not the first time that a cricketer's career has ended in such a way, right?

One thing I do not understand is if the player is being charged with several laws then isn't it also the duty of the law enforcement to ensure that such things do not happen??

I mean what punishment did the bookie get? Does anyone remember the Mayank Agarwal guy in the Shakib Al Hasan issue? Shakib got banned for doing nothing and all I had about the bookie was 'it's being handled from another direction.

It's basically like saying 'you can sell weed but if anyone buys from you the buyer is in trouble'. WTF!!!  Angry

He has played over 205 ODIs, 34 Test and 45 T20I for Zim before getting this ban. He has also played IPL and other small leagues like PSL and Lanka League. I don't think money is problem for him as he must have earned huge money after playing such cricket. Its just greed that is chasing players and they wanna get rich over night.

So he took money from bookies and then busted himself and then only got three and half years of suspension. Usually it will be a life time ban if there is evidence of taking money as far as i understand. What is common here is that with every match fixing scandal there will be an Indian connection  Cheesy. All the way from Hansie Cronje, Herschelle Gibbs, Nicky Boje to Brendan Taylor.

The pay scale of Zimbabwe players are really low and hence it would be easier for the bookies to approach them and they fall for those traps which will ultimately end up exposing themselves in the global scale.

The sad thing is that Brendan Taylor is a great cricketer but his career is ending in such a way that no one wanted. And maybe it was said as a joke that with every fixing comes a connection to some Indian but it's actually a fact. @Swordsoffreedom yes Shakib Al Hasan issue is a real example, there was also an Indian guy.

Anyway, I think that law enforcement plays a bigger role here. There needs to be a lot more severe punishment for the bookies. We always see that players get punished in these types of cases. I know a lot of players who have been punished just because they were approached by bookies and they didn't report that to the ICC, But they didn't do anything. On the other hand, I am sure that the bookies don't get into many troubles because they have lots of gods connections.

According to his own confession he was told by alleged businessman that 15k was some sort of token amount for new sponsorship, they also sent him tickets so that he can visit them personally at Mumbai. Then he was offered Cocaine at the party, he didn't think much and took it willingly. During their cocaine session someone recorded everything and blackmail game started.

India is biggest market so its kinda obvious that it attracts all sorts of punters.

The match fees and annual contract amount for Zimbabwean players are much lower when compared to the international players from other test playing nations. Most of them supplement their income by representing club sides in England or franchise T20 teams. In case of Brendan Taylor, he has represented teams like Nottinghamshire, Chittagong Kings, Wellington Firebirds, Uthura Rudras and Khulna Titans. Not sure how much he would have earned from these teams, but it would be far less when compared to the IPL salaries.

He is also part of IPL as he was in sunrisers hyderabad. If getting less money is issue then whole Pak team should do match fixing since they dont play IPL. I also dont know exactly how much he earned through international matches and leagues but it must be adequate enough to live a good life. Its sad to see such senior player going in that manner.

Even it is no of mine business but still bringing Pakistani players in all cases is not good because there were some bad time when few players involved into this, and they have their punishment just like we have few players in other countries even into India but still talking all this is completely none sense because they have enough money from their leagues and other international leagues and fixtures, so they don't need these things better stop this crap and talk into better way is good for all members here in this community because we already have very small community and don't try to create bad manners and things with this all.

If Brendan Taylor trap into this, surely it's his own mistake and many others need to learn from this and never have any contact or relationship like this.

There is no denying that Brendan Taylor is in the wrong here. Under no circumstances anyone should have any relations with these types of people.

Yes, we have previously seen a few Pakistani players getting into these kinds of troubles. Which held Pakistan cricket back for a long time and also were detrimental for the players.

But the problem is when players have a taste of a big amount of money and they start spending a lot they cannot do with the money that they previously had and they want more. I think that's why even though the players get paid well enough but still get into this type of trouble.

Match fixing is still going on, only small board pays the price. No one can question big boards, its a reality. Players from all countries do fixing but only few are caught. Bookies are part of cricket and they will remain integral part of cricket  in days to come. Yes Brendan Taylor has done a mistake and that's why he is facing the music, its sad to see such ending of this big player

It's not just about small boards it's also happening in many leagues, and now they have some better way as we all know recently too much noise about IPL as many matches were suspicious with presence of many wrong peoples in wrong places during matches but as we all know ICC is bling about this as they have some good deep pockets from this all, so they are not looking into this all and having all things against only small boards because they know it's all important for their system's success.

Right now, IPL and India is the biggest market for gamblers and bookies, so they are enjoying this all under supervision of ICC and BCCI and blame game is going against peoples like Brendon and few others those have nothing strong backup, and they are under strict laws faced some punishments as well.

I don't think that his contract amount in IPL was that high. IPL is the richest league around the world, but the salaries can be very uneven. For example, Sandeep Lamichhane was receiving only ₹2,000,000 ($27,000) from his IPL stint, while he earned manytimes that amount from the BBL and BPL. And I don't think that Pakistani players are all saints. Multiple players including Mohammed Asif and Danish Kaneria have been accused of match fixing and many of them have received bans from the ICC as well.

As cricket is progressing more money is jumping in and mostly its the gambling mafia that is sponsoring leagues like IPL but in indirect manner. There is no way we can detect that match fixing is going on in league match because its all very nicely done. Don't worry about ICC, it's fully in hands of big 3.

I feel there’s two sides here first of all when people accuse ICC of not taking action can they produce conclusive proof of rigging in IPL short answer no, can they speculate matches were rigged yes, but without proof ICC cannot do anything.

Lastly had ICC allowed Brendon to walk away people would have been livid saying ICC is weak, and doesn’t care about matches being fixed hence we see whatever action ICC takes it’s always going to get lots of criticism for it.

You know in my personal opinion I think that they have been somehow related to drugs in some way.

Because there are only two reasons why money might never be enough for someone and those are drugs and gambling. These two reasons start the main problem. Because ultimately you lose money and gain nothing except for bad health probably. I always think that the money that the players who you are well-known get is always enough for them. But the problem starts with these types of bad habits of theirs.

Obviously there should be some proofs, there are groups but they just don't reach ICC. We all know that IPL is the attraction and mostly we can say it's the home of gamblers and bookies. But when we say things like that these are just speculations and no one can prove them because the proof is covered up really well.

Anyway, all I wanna know is how a players' phone call to his family or a call record of his personal mobile gets to ICC and a lot of big speculations lay around with no proof? Yes, cricket boards are greedy ain't they?
