It didn’t seem to pass the sniff test for me either. The Lakers have him on a pretty sweet contract. There’s no reason to trade him before the deadline or even at all. With Luka, DeAndre, & LeBron playing with him, they are really just one piece away from having a monster starting five.

And, Reaves will definitely be playing hard because once that contract is up, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent, and the only way he secures the kind of deal he deserves is if he delivers a great season with the Lakers.

Agreed. There’s no way he’ll get the contract or salary he wants based on his previous performance. He really needs to step it up so teams will be more willing to pay him what he’s asking. That would make negotiations easier for him and his agent. Otherwise, he might end up like Schroder. Statistically though, he’s better than Schroder and he is their third star, after all. If he can just be consistent, especially on offense, he might actually secure the bag. Consistency in offense is one of his keys to getting it.

As per the last update that I read NYK already acquired Jordan Clarkson which also an offensive player, bringing Reaves might ba a questionable move if ever that there's a possibilities about that said rumor trade, and like you said, Laker acquired Ayton and together with Hayes the big man is already decent.

They need Reaves as another offensive option, I understand that Luka and LeBron can bring that but it's always better to have someone who have that same mentality who's not afraid to take his shots,.

Right, most likely he will be inspired to play as this is his last year with that contract. And with the way he plays in the last season, he could be worth more than his current contract. And so to continue with that, he is more motivated as this is the season that they will have Luka in a full blown season. And they have acquired a lot of players too like Ayton to be their starting center and then DFS to add a two way player. And there's not much movement as of late, it seems to be quiet now as most team might have settled their line up except maybe for the Warriors and Kuminga as there are a lot of unconfirmed rumors as well but it's hard to say unless someone really reputable has put the news in public.

I saw a news story about him that said he arrived at the courthouse handcuffed. It seems he was confident he would pay bail and be released to answer the legal proceedings against him. The arguments his lawyers used were too weak, saying he was paying off his debts in Nevada and that if the judge released him, the payment process would be faster. The judge refused his bail. It seems to me he is facing gambling problems.

They say another hearing has been scheduled for the end of August and that his lawyers hope that everything will be resolved before the end of August, maybe he will be able to get out of this situation early.

In Reaves' case, chasing a bigger contract may be justified not only if he improves his skills on offense but also if he avoids serious injury. My point is that neither the Lakers nor any other team will want to overpay for a player who may be out indefinitely due to injury.

While the fact is Lakers don't really have any reason to trade Reaves to other team. They are now strong contender especially that they have those big players you mentioned in their team.

I don't understand why a basketball player with a multi-million dollar salary gets involved in such absurd situations. This is a psychological illness; we've seen many professional athletes have run-ins with the police or the courthouse lately. I think players' psychological problems are starting to increase.

Probably he has a lot of debt which his salary is already not enough  to pay it all. His current salary is way lower than his previous salary way back when he is still star player of Knicks.

Considering that he have problem on paying gambling debts that resulted to arrest only shows that he can’t pay it anymore or else this issue will not escalated.

While the news could be false, I would have believed Robinson for Reaves, after all Lakers needed a centre. However, not entirely sure what they are feeling now that they got Ayton. Sure he was once considered great, hell he was picked before Doncic, but at the same time he has never shown himself to be a good player so I am not really seeing the benefit here.

Ayton was signed because they needed a centre, just had Hayes and that wasn't enough, but getting a bad player there doesn't solve your problems, and they may find Ayton to be not great as well. In any case, Doncic, Reaves, Lebron, Ayton and Rui seems to be how they may play and that could end up being a lethal team when it comes to playoffs and they can stay healthy.

This is not going to be good for Gilbert I think. Such a shame to see how his career spiraled after the gun incident.

Man, I don't understand how NBA players, who earn millions while they're still active, need to get involved in illegal activities.
Is this some prime example of financial mismanagement? I mean Arenas was long retired, but he ain't Jordan, who owns a brand that will sustain his gambling needs.
I think young NBA players of today will need to see this, so they'll get prepared for the worst thing to happen when their career concludes.

Rumor of the day...  LeBron James' agent has been talking with Jokic's agent about a possible team up next year.  The rumor is that both players will take significantly less money to team up on a team with an already great roster.  This would be LeBron's final season, and he wants to win a championship on his farewell tour.  While this seems a little bit unlikely, it is possible.  Jokic doesn't seem to be a money first guy and LeBron already has enough...  I'm not sure where they would team up, but some possibilities include Golden State or even Cleveland.  We'll see...  A bit early to be speculating on next season, but it's out there.

I am not sure with that because I thought that they're already able to make their roster better and they're just going to add some helpful players.

But, they're not going to put out any more of their key players like Austin Reaves. So, I've tried to do a quick research and I don't see Robinsons name in there, it's with Markkanen and some other players involved on that trade proposal.
