Hello.

I bought an ASUS RX 480 8gb,and an Arctic Accelero IV custom cooler.

Now I have some questions.

a)Can I install the cooler on the card?
b)Will installing it void my warranty?
c)Will it work properly with the 32 mhs bios rom?

Thanks in advance.

If you do not break seal, you can install it. If you need to return the card, you can install the original cooler back. Nobody will notice.

flashed RX480-30MhOTB on my 2 units of XFX RX480 8gb Reference, it does run up to 30Mh/s however it wasn't that consistent (dropping down to 23-27 most of the time), is there something else i should look at from Radeon software tweak?

Do your XFX cards have backplates? I tried flashing the LowEnergyOK ROM onto my (reference?) XFX cards (w/ backplates) and was unable to.
Yes, but its not the black oc edition...

Just an update, so far i reflashed back the card, open the radeon software, set the voltage to 920 and others as manual, the rate is consistent between 28-30Mh

Okay so I flashed the rx 480 with the 32 mh/s rom, and I must have fucked it up somehow because i'm only getting 7 mh/s with claymore's miner.
I don't know what i'm doing wrong,I also tried the 30 mhs rom and the results are pretty much the same.
Flashing back to the original bios gets me to 24-25 mhs.
Any ideas?

Using these on my .bat file.

setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 0
setx GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool europe.ethash-hub.miningpoolhub.com:20536 -ewal x -eworker x -epsw x -allpools 1 -mode 1 -di 1

Windows 7 x64

Asus RX 480(Reference) 8gb

Latest radeon drivers(16.9.1)

P.S. when I tried to flash it I got the subID error,so I opened the polaris editor and edited the custom bios ROM values to match with my card's original ones, then completed the flash procedure.

EDIT: Fixed

ATTN For all of you ! Those bios files out there is for reference card ONLY !!! Not all reference card are the same !!! if you have a referenec card with high asic quality those high hash rate roms probably going to work for you ! If you have a reference card with lower asic quality your card probably not going to work with a high hash rate rom file !!! Use gpuZ to check your ASIC quality ...
If you flashed the rom and you hash rate is falling to the 20-23 range , that bios is not for you at all ! You can try to set the memory max frequency lower with wattman or watttools then it may will work for you , but you going to get lower hash rate .

REFERENCE CARD ROM FILES ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH NON REFERENCE CARDS

im modding rom files for myself for none reference cards . I have 6 different brand rx 480 .
Within one brand , same model number , sometimes i can not use my modded rom file on all my (same brand, same model number) rx480  cards. Is working fine with one card with High ASIC quality , and not working at all on another one with lower ASIC quality .
In my experience those cards (same brand, same model number) with ASIC quality over 70% are working fine with my modded bios . For lower ASIC quality Cards i need to adjust the mem frequency lower with polaris bios editor , then flashing the cards ...

There is my latest built Smiley will update pictures soon Smiley

You CANNOT use ANY OTHER video card besides AMD 480 REFERENCE with the REFERENCE Bios.

You CANNOT use any Bios intended for a certain card with anything other than that card.

Example, you CANNOT flash a 480 REFERENCE bios onto a Saphire Nitro.

You CANNOT flash a Saphire 480 Nitro bios onto a MSI 480 gaming.

You are going to destroy your cards. You seriously need to do some research and figure this stuff out before you blow up your $275 dollar investment.

Flashing Bios WILL and DOES void your warranty.

i ordered 1 saphire Nitro Rx 470 4gb, will be tested next day, i think the Rx 470 4gb can beat Rx 480 8gb, if my speculation is right, i think i will sell my Rx 480 8gb to buying some Rx 470 4gb Roll Eyes

Beat about what ?
I agree that they can achieve a better Mhash/$ ratio. But i doubt then can beat RX 480 total hash rate. But i will be happy to be wrong! Let us know Smiley

Yes, but its not the black oc edition...

Just an update, so far i reflashed back the card, open the radeon software, set the voltage to 920 and others as manual, the rate is consistent between 28-30Mh
after resetting my PC due to low hashrate along the way, the hashrate now went back to inconsistent 23-27 ... why is that happening anyway? :/

Could be a few things. Memory to tight. Memory clock to high, you can check this easiest if you open up Afterburner and check if the Frame buffer is over 95% "consistant".
Could also be that the TDP limit in the rom is to low. So it's bottlenecking there.
Could also be a temperature issue.

Could be a lot of things :p

While mining XMR with modded 480s (low power version).... I find card runs cool but when mining ETH, temps runs high. Both mining using Claymore miners.

Anyone get the same scenario?

I have noticed, that after reboot sometimes core clock is fixed to 300MHz or 608MHz. It results 7MHz or 15MHz hashrate in Claymore. To fix this i need to reboot or change core clock manually. I tried running DDU and installing fresh drivers but still no luck.

Has anyone experienced similiar problem?

that'a another question i was going to ask as i noticed a lot of you are using W10 for mining nowadays. So W10 is recommened now for eth mining now? Are hashrates and stability issues are handled better under W10?

Didn't you try to modify the core clock through the WattMan located in the graphics driver? If you're now not able to do that, I'd suggest you to install Windows 10 and have a fresh install of drivers.
