I loved the 55 posts threshold Smiley

A little question, I need to cut cgminer in order to be able to use a rfid card reader on my computer (won't work for some reason if cgminer is running), what is the recommended delay before restarting the miner and not piss off the server ?

I normally get 0.0017 to 0.0020 at 930MH, but the last two blocks I got 0.0014 and 0.0015

Anyone else see reduced payout on the blast two blocks?

hash rate has gone up 400gh/s since i checked this morning, probably why, mine has gone down compared to earlier blocks today.
plus more variance on smaller miners.

If i had to guess, i'd say it is due to the daily shift in Hash Rate. The Pool's Hash rate seems to go up and down 1Th/s everyday. It is currently on the up side.

a power efficient power supply (=not too big! workload around 80% plus 80+ standard) would save some more watts.

btw does anyone have an idea what effects cgminers cpu usage? On my WinXP/2003 32bit machines (catalyst 11.11) cgminer uses about 70-80% and on my 64bit Win7/2008R2 machines (catalyst 13.1) it's only about 3-4%.

i'm asking this because cpu usage does affect power consumption

Actually PSU's are most efficient when they are at about 50% load, not 80%. Just sayin

Actually it's different for every single psu, some are uber efficient at low loads, and some are more efficient at higher temps and so on.
Generalizations like 50% and 80% are wrong.

however all PSU efficiency diminish as the caps get old.
I just felt like making a Generalized factual comment haha... MORE FANS!
here is another all PSU's that go up in smoke tend to have lower efficiencies

Is there any tricks to cut down the Video Driver from crashing. Besides lower GPU Mhz.
I am asking because I have 3 machines identical in all ways brand new win7 installs 64bit, Sapphire 7870xt cards.
I can run 2 no issues at 1200Mhz GPU mining 525 mh/s while the 3rd one the video driver seems to crash above 1145Mhz after several hours.
The 2 at 1200 run at 71C and 76C while the driver crashing one runs at 75C.

Did you look around for the version 12.8 drivers? Those seem to be the best to mine with. In any case, go to device manager, uninstall the driver, make sure when you click Uninstall, you check "Delete driver software for this device". Once uninstalled, try reinstalling (Preferably version 12.8 ).

I am using 13.1 drivers I tried 13.2 but they cards mine like 10% slower so I am not going to install anything newer than 13.1... does 12.8 even have drivers for a 7870?

When I tried the installer for 12.8 for my 7790, it said there was no compatible hardware found but going through the device manager and pointing to the folder where the installer extracted, it installed successfully and has been running stable since. When I had the latest driver installed, I had about 275 mh/s for bitcoin and 33 kh/s for litecoin. After going to 12.8, I get 308 mh/s and 220 kh/s.

Can't base comparisons of power consumption on percent of cpu usage unless you have have reference data for all the hardware parts in the different machines and know all the software that's running.

For example, see http://superuser.com/questions/242562/why-does-windows-7-x64-work-faster-than-an-x86-edition-on-my-pc for some things to consider.

I'm getting 245/440/456 Mh on a 3x 7870 rig running 12.8 (using MSI for safe temp overclocks).

I asked the same question in the cgminer thread.  I got some BS about drivers and SDKs.  Odd that two identical machines with identical drivers and the same cgminer config can vary between 75% and 2% CPU.  On a third identical machine cgminer won't even run.  All running 7x64, 12.8 drivers.

I've pretty much given up on cgminer and am using BFGminer, it's consistent and works.  And it works on the same machines cgminer just crashes on.  Roll Eyes

Thanks for that hint. Will give bfgminer a try.
With poclbm I had the same high cpu usage issue...

Right! Thank you! I've corrected my original post.

Here's an good overview about psu efficiency/80 PLUS efficiency levels:

Yeah I seem to remember trying 12.8 or some 12.x and it saying there was no driver for my 7870. I have another arriving soon maybe I will try that version with it. I've missed too many blocks messing with drivers! every time I choose to try and fix them we do 2 quick blocks or finish a long one making me get 0 shares for that miner cuz of the awesome Slush anti hopping algorithm Wink

I've had cgminer with 100% cpu usage (actually 25%, cos it was 100% on one core...), solved it with updating drivers. Drivers does indeed affect in cpu usage. Atm, I generally use bfgminer on linux machines, cgminers in windows. Works best for me.
