Mining is up on a backup server while we wait for our main provider to fix their problem. DNS propagation may take a couple min to kick in.

Oddly, after another very long wait for a block Bitminter seems to have found one about 25 minutes ago, but it seems to have taken down the whole pool.  This is only the second block in in the last 1.5 days and it's not even clear what's happening now.  Certainly "luck" is involved but wow, this is very unlucky!  Hopefully everything is back soon and normal luck returns.

Yes, we had a couple of very unlucky rounds. But I don't think our unlucky block is what brought down our provider's entire data center. Smiley Although I suppose it could be our bad luck rubbing off on them.

You can just blame me.  I seem to be very unlucky, and I joined the pool just short of 2 weeks ago.  I have cluster headaches, extraordinarily painful, but no cure, and little research since it's really rare and not life threatening, except suicide.  There are some treatments, but none work on me.  I got interested in bitcoin 3 years ago, I had a 5970 at the time, but my headaches ramped up before I figured out how to get it all working.  Now the headaches are slowing down, so I finally got mining, too late to make any money with my current equipment, then the whole pool goes down.  I was looking at buying 1.2-2.4 Thps in mining gear, but they only accept bitcoin, they put the gear on sale, I have no bitcoin to buy it so I go looking to buy some bitcoin.  It takes at least a week to get set up with anyone to buy bitcoin.  The sale will be long over by then.  And that's just a small taste of my bad luck.  So if you want me to leave the pool so your good luck returns please donate to me so I can buy some mining equipment and leave the pool to mess up someone else's luck and loose all the money I invested in equipment.

I just don't get why I have only received one payment today, and only 3 yesterday. I haven't changed anything on my end. My wallet is at par with the transactions from your site. Sorry if I was acting like I jerk but my monkey mind was freaking out. Wink

This is because of variance. On some lucky days we pay much better than average and on some unlucky days we pay much less than average.

So was block 278333 ours or not?  It shows up on blockchain.info but isn't on the Bitminter list.

I think it might be wise drharibo to post what you actually updated in your latest software update mentioned in post #5475. Now I know the answer is right above it. But as our bad luck has coincided with that, I think that is where people are getting the silly idea you changed how we mine or something.

Well, thank you. Smiley

No. blockchain.info just says it was relayed by Bitminter. That means the block was propagated through one of our bitcoin peer-to-peer nodes (and all the other bitcoin nodes in the network). It doesn't actually mean anything.

Unfortunately http://blockorigin.pfoe.be/blocklist.php (which actually attempts to see who created the blocks) doesn't appear to have the latest blocks right now.

lol, this is too funny...nobodys holding a gun to your head to mine here.  Dont you think its odd that nobody out of the top 50 is complaining?  When i started mining here, 7 days to find a block was the norm.

Status update:  Switching back to main mining server. Live hashrate display on our website may be wrong during the transition.

Nothing was changed with the way we mine. This question comes up every time we some bad luck, there's always someone asking if it is something wrong. But out of 100 blocks on average one of them will have 99%+ CDF. Bad luck will happen sometimes. Same thing I've been saying for 2.5 years: the mining server is very careful to check all incoming work for whether it can create a block, and this is logged.

No work is lost. But live hashrates are only reported from one server. It will look wrong as we are transitioning from backup to main server. Should look normal again soon.

some of our effort will be lost now.

Not all lottery tickets are winners.  Every share you submit is like a lottery ticket.  It's as simple as that.

We pooled our resources, bought several million lottery tickets, and none of them were winners.  Our effort was lost.  Bummer!  But, on average, we'll keep winning a certain percentage of the time, so I'm going to keep buying tickets.

No kidding? I don't want to win with every ticket. I'm not saying that.

"PPLNS - Pay Per Last N Shares. Similar to proportional, but instead of looking at the number of shares in the round, instead looks at the last N shares, regardless of round boundaries. "

PPLNS - is protecting miners from "lottery ticket" effect. Because in the long run probability to "win" is as high as your hash-rate is compared to networks.

All i want to say is it would be better to hold loyal miners and value their effort.

The reward has to come out of blocks actually found.

Quote
In the long run it wont matter for the stable miners,

Exactly!

Quote
and there would be less pool hoppers if they know that their effort wont get lost.

But effort will always be lost when blocks are not found and there is no way to change that.

On the stats page https://bitminter.com/livestats/big the Latest Blocks section only lists the time the block was made, not the date. That probably made perfect sense when difficulty was lower but we had a 20 hour block yesterday. That combined with a few other longer blocks makes the time stamp on that frame meaningless as we don't know which day each block was made. If I look at Latest Blocks now the ten blocks listed span a period of around four days.

Is there room to add the date as well as the time to the clickable link portion (under the Time column) of the Latest Blocks frame?

Hi,

Trying to wrap my head around the way this payment system works.  Do I have to mine here 'steady'  and constantly to get rewarded or can I use this as a backup to my regular pool?

For example if Eligius goes down and it failsover into this pool, and I work here lets say for about 1.5 shifts. Will I we rewarded fully for the time I spend hashing here or does not sticking around somehow penalize me or lower the payout for the time I do spend here.

Thanks
