Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"

The most annoying thing about the merit system is not the system itself (even if - as it is conceived - in my opinion it is destined to die in a few weeks) but the arrogance of the Legendaries that - after having done hundreds of insignificant posts for the sole purpose of level up - now that they are protected, come to tell you "Make good posts and you will see that you will grow too"
And then they also ask you why you're ever interested in going up!!!
To me it would be enough that we could give a demerit for the past posts - and in this way the Legendaries could be send donw - and we would begin to understand each other. This is not envy, it would create just a little balance
Anyway, I tell you what will happen: the various stars of the group - with a thousand points to spend - will create a group of disciples to grow, totally under their control. Tribal way.
Magnificent post! Thank you for your contribution! The idea of demeriting high ranking members downward especially appealed to me, if we're going to use a merit system anyway. It is a ridiculous idea. Yeah, let's have a system in which all the new fucks can drag more senior members down. I think that any meaningful demerit proposals would not spread such demerit powers so broadly, but demerits would end up going to scammers or people who abuse the merit system or the trust system and things like that. Anyhow, I think that I already made my point that spreading out an ability to demerit among the masses would be disasterous, because you already see evidence, from the two above posts of bad motives for employing such demerit powers if they were to exist.

1) Self-Custody is a right. There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted." 2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized. 3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Well said. It would just be used for personal vendettas and an 'I disagree' button. In another thread, Lutpin has suggested a pretty sensible alternative 'Terminations' system to remove unjustified Merit. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827699.msg28992369#msg28992369

It's not ridiculous, but really hard, and almost impossible to implement. With demerit system, we might see lots of arguments, complaints from higher-rank users in the forum. Admin and moderators cannot solve all the question from them for sure. So the probability at which demerit system will be created, activated in the forum is too low, extremely low. Congratulations, high-rank members!

I am here to fix my own error By the help deeds of actmyname i found out that i already made a mistake without knowing it Here is the story and i already Private message this to actmyname. I recently had been penalized by actmyname: Actmyname: Very likely connected alts: {albert11, CornHub}
CornHub sent trust to albert11 with no reference, Legendary Member albert11 sends 50 merits to CornHub's post which is really just a general recycled garbage post. My message sent: SORRY Im being arrogant in putting in test the new system rules " merits" it should be 5 merits and not 50, i just realized that i made a typo graphical error within giving a merits in user cornhub, just saw my fault because of the red trust. About the post i just want to help him in ranking up a little bit, also that's a part of how i will glad to thank him for what i buy in real life" ledger nano" in our meetup.
I hereby apologize for this thing Looking forward for a chance.
If there any chance that i can made it right, please tell me. I do want to continue at this forum, accepting punishment for my excitement. No words can explain my fault No words can even exchange for my wrong action Again, I deeply want to say I'm guilty for what happened. *edited some words that might not clear*

It may be abused by the account farmers as said by others, but it will make it harder at least for them and that is a good thing! Now i just need to come up with some high quality posts to gain 150 merit in the next two months when activity would rank me up Happy for the change, maybe there will be less posts of the type newbie asking about ICO in a thread for a minable coin without any ICO Thats right, we have to come up with a relevant posts. This way, we get rid of spam posts and replies. Since this is system is new, we will observe also how the system works whether it is really working for what it is intended.

If I understand correctly, then the guy who likes to read occasionally to write posts to gain activity will never go on to the next rank unless he writes interesting and informative posts

Then you have to wait for luckiness, chances to come. Those ones will determine whether you can get merits from others or not. This system is not a perfect one, in terms of missed good quality posts which wont get merits, right? However, merit system is good for the forum at least in the purpose of getting rid of abundant spamming, non-sense, off-topic posts.

If I understand correctly, then the guy who likes to read occasionally to write posts to gain activity will never go on to the next rank unless he writes interesting and informative posts Why should they if they're not contributing anything of substance? If you're just a lurker then rank is pretty much pointless any way. What you seem to be annoyed about is that you're not going to be able to rank up just by making a crappy post or two every fortnight over the years and this is a good thing. Anyway, not surprisingly you're copy and pasting stuff: Cybersecurity pioneer John McAfee recently set a $1 million price target for Bitcoin by 2020 (revised upward from $500,000). Others say the market value could match gold’s, which clocks in at $9.7 trillion—roughly $460,000 per coin. For many, this is reason enough to play the long game. Most of the earliest investors seem to be doing just that.

Actually the only fair step for introducing the merit system would have been to reset all ranks with it, even if higher level ranks probably will not agree here, because they think they deserver more then lower ranks because they are here longer then others. But this is just an excuse to give them more rights over lower ranks. It's like being in politics where governments are doing what they want just because they got elected before.

Does merit points come in block of 10 or 50 or 100? I see a lot of members having 10, 100, 250, 500 merit points. Looks like just nice for the next level

This merit system is in favor to those who are popular. This is just a popularity contest. The more you have friends the better. I pity those who have no friends here and i suggest to make friends. If you cannot do that better find another way to accumulate altcoins or bitcoin. Trading would be a good alternative one or you could also join bitcoingarden. I never had an account there but there are good feedback about this forum and planning to make an account there.
Thanks for the suggestion. I've been looking for alternatives.

Do you happen to be on good terms with Lauda, actmyname, The Pharmacist, etc.? Kissing up to them? Then such things easily happen. And you don't even need to post quality content for it.

Wrong Deena. theymos revised the distribution so anyone that was in the Legendary range got 1000 rather than just those that had been lucky enough to rank up. It seemed odd that some with lower activity at the time received double someone with lower activity.

It's something like that. I've been requesting the forum owner to think over what type of governance he wants on this forum. Apparently he likes the olichargic / police state system best.

I've been on this forum 4 years longer than you. The only unfair thing is me having to read consistent drivel. I give away merits to those who are trying. I am in the top 10 for giving and receiving merits, so shut up and embrace it and I might send some your way

You sound like an idiot. Crestington's merit is now 1,000 because theymos made a change to the system. Because Crestington's activity is within Legendary range, his merit has now been increased to 1,000 to not prevent him from achieving it.

It is because theymos. He suddenly patch the merit system for member who is hero ranked that is been active and potentially will reach Legendary Rank because the number of the activity is in the range of becoming legendary rank. You can find the post in this thread, but i forgot in which page. Anyway, congrats !!
