hey there peeps,

was wondering if someone could help,

i have a devcoin wallet set up, but my transactions aren't going through to the address,

any idea why?

i have devcoin unzip to my %appdata%/devcoin folder
Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

..
Their posts on recent threads around the forum for that month would give devcoin free advertising for the month since it would be in their signature on each thread.
..

Something else that would boost the devtome page rank is links from outside the forum. I suggest they should have a link to devtome in their signature, or they should link to devtome from their site, if they have one.

Yeah. Devcoins in the sig, and sharing Devcoin on other sites would help.

Man... the DVC order book at vircurex is looking pretty stale.
It's just skewed by a few offers near or at 1DVC=1BTC. Take those out and it's around 1:2 but agree it gives a weird impression.
Actually if you adjust for a max order spread of 0.5x/2x bid/offer, very recently had greater bid volume.

What book are you looking at? The DVC/BTC has been pretty tight the last couple of days, too tight even really for daytraders sitting on each side of the spread to buy or sell anything. The site's fees eat pretty much all of the spread it is so tight.

Is there a page where you get to see more than just the orders that are near the actual filled orders price?

I have been using a column instead of wall approach, instead of a wall, where at one price you put a huge order, I use columns, where at each and every price, except inside the spread region where the house takes all potential profit with its fees, there is an order, so all possible prices have offers at them. (Devcoin being down in the last few digits makes this feasible, there are only so many prices possible in a three digits of satoshis range.) Sales have been inside the spread range for a couple of days now, mostly, almost no buys or sells eating into my columns above and below the spread range.

So it seems to have worked as a way not only to nudge the price upward but also to stablise it once it got about as high as people were willing lately to go.

(Impatient people don't like to put their order on a price that is already occupied by 100,000 devcoins or so of offer, so the columns tend to nudge them into the spread range between the columns, then gradually moving that range by creeping the buy column upwards caused buy offers to tend to keep creeping upward to get into that clear space between the columns.)

http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/orderbook.php?pair=dvc-btc&market=vircurex
although they only display the top orders on each side, so the really silly offers (silly today at least), in fact all the offers over about 5x current price, have dropped off visibility. I don't know yet how to get the full orderbook out of vircurex.

Edit: actually there's an api https://vircurex.com/api/orderbook.json?base=DVC&alt=BTC (or xml). There are offers in at DVC/BTC all the way to 1, 100, 1000, 38.5k, 709k. Taking out just one offer of 2.69m offered at around 1 obviously drops the ask volume by 2.69m btc.

Can someone explain to me EXACTLY what The Galactic Milieu is and how it pertains to DVC??? I want to know how it pertains to CPU mining, and how DVC/BTC are tied in to this.

Its a mmo, markm has integrated the various coins into the game to be used for exchanges as a currency.

Okay, now can someone explain how to set it up? From what I understand, it is a rule-set for Freeciv... I would like to get into this, I enjoy a good game.

Hmm evidently the Galactic Milieu page in the devtome needs work.

I have started working on it again, mostly so far explaining that finance has been the big problem thus that finance aspects of it have had to become the immediate focus, so that for example the prototype of how the stock exchange city-improvement that cities in Freeciv can build is to function as an actual stock-exchange is one of the main points being worked on now, the Digitalis Open Transactions server. The goal being to focus on areas that could fund the project, stock exchanges that actually work (actually trade stocks) being one particular city-improvement that looked like it could maybe help fund the project.

There is no reset, it is not based on bitcoin-testnet coins, it uses persistent coins. GRouPcoins and I0coins and CoiLedCoins and GeistGeld are still low enough difficulty that CPUs can mine them effectively, BBQcoin was for many many months easy to mine but has now been picked up on by GPU miners so is now too difficult.

We are looking at new meanings for the term CPU mining though, by using MUD back end we can create environments that CPUs are much better at dealing with (by use of MUD clients, that enable scripting and triggers) than GPUs are ever likely to be.

As I recall we had at one point figured that we could run that economically at a price of $50 per player-account or more (annual subscription), the more the price the more loot would be able to be afforded of course so players wanting rich loot will want the price of player-accounts to be high whereas freeloaders will of course want the price of player-accounts to be low. But basically at $50 or more per player account, with each account being able to have up to ten characters, up to five of which can be all online at the same time, looked like it could be do-able.

At that point the burden went back to the clans / nations / guilds / whatevers, the groups of players, since each few hundred player-accounts would need a server set up. Basically the idea was a group of players would pay wholesale for maybe 100 player-accounts or so at a time and they would take care of re-selling them to players, meanwhile the hosting infrastructure department could go build the server for the new block of players without being distracted by also having to try to do the marketing department job of actually finding enough paying players to justify building another server.

It is not really so much a matter of the game being dominated already by early adopter players as it is a matter of the game being dominated by clans, guilds, in general "groups", of players, so that the best way for a new player to approach it all might well be to first get their group of umpteen players organised then decide among that group what aspect or aspects of the game that particular group is going to get into. Maybe also settle among your group what to call yourselves (guild, clan, nation, political party, whatever) and what scale of play you plan to enter into. Like, is your group going to operate as individual characters on an individual character scale, trying to build up a Freeciv scale "unit" of 10,000 colonists so as to try to bootstrap yourselves to the Freeciv scale? Or is the plan to claim to already be a Freeciv scale nation, by somehow obtaining control of a "unit" of 10,000 colonists somewhere and having it found a city that will be the capital of a nation/civilisation that is not yet a played civilisation in the game-so-far?

Basically it is easier to deal with groups of hundreds of new players entering the game as a group than to deal with individual players one at a time, so individuals who are not yet part of any huge clan or guild or whatever of players in any game anywhere might be best advised to first get such a group together or join such a group then get them interested in entering as a group into this "new" (to that group) game.

There is a lot of difference between sitting back at the Freeciv scale making one Freeciv turn of Freeciv scale moves per month or so, and crawling around in a MUD trying to get 10,000 characters organised and equipped as a Freeciv-scale "unit" of colonists and arranging (read:financing) transportation for them to a planet they somehow (read:financing) have rights to colonise...

Groups also had seemed at least at some point to be necessary for the whole financial angle, because of all the laws around money it made more sense for the guild officers or clan leaders or whatever to deal with any fiat interaction angles of things, so that the game can focus on the national currencies the game nations use in the game and any possible interactions such currencies might have with fiat would be something the citizens of a particular game-nation would talk to their game-nation's leaders or officers or whatever about in private as private matters between friends or domestic matters of the particular nation.

(e.g. Want to cash out Britcoins into GBP? See your guild officers; if you are not in Britclan, then have your officers talk to Britclan officers about trading the Britcoins for whatever currency your clan uses, which then your clan cashes out for you to the type of fiat your clan uses. This implies a major service a clan can provide its members is the interface to fiat, providing its members cash out for example of whatever in game currency the clan favours to whatever kind of fiat the clan favours.)

Maybe I have enough material in mind now to be able to go write a "starting a clan (Galactic MIlieu)" page...

(There is no "Bitcoiner Clan" or "Bitcointalk Clan" yet. Maybe bitcoiners could pull together enough of a clan to actually scale up to become the Hacker nation that supposedly invented blockchains and uses Bitcoins as its national currency, the civilisation from which the Martians purportedly obtained blockchain technology and went on to popularise it throughout the Milieu, by for example giving the technology to the Brits and Canucks and others...)

-MarkM-

EDIT: I see there is now a CHN coin, so maybe the Chinese have decided to join the Russians (RUC) in having a national coin? Maybe that is two nice clans / guilds / nations already that might be ready to start operating on the Freeciv scale once they feel they have gained enough players by launching their currency first to gather and finance players...

Yeah i was having issues connecting to it at points throughout today... but seems ok now.... will jkeep an eye on it, but what protection have we against a DDOS? not saying they will but incentive for people with large investment in writing to stop people from posting on the site for next few days so that the number of shares does not increase too much.... what would happen in such a situation?

Hmm if it becomes an issue we can move the site to the beast mode server. But I have nit been able to duplicate it so far. What time roughly was it.

When I posted.

It has come back since.

Meanwhile I went looking for Russians and Chinese in the Milieu, could not find any Russians but a few planets have Chinese on them, though on one they are "upstarts", meaning that some civilisation had a civil war and splinted and one of the parts it splitered into chose to call itself Chinese.

Freeciv has relatedness of some kind for civilisations, like each has a list of others that it will prefer to use for a splinter when it breaks apart due to civil war if they are not already in play on that planet, so part of the strategic concerns in choosing your nation is how likely it is that you will suddenly find yourself paying hosting for some splintered off part of some other nation somewhere that suffers a civil war. The added hosting cost due to suddenly finding you have people on some planet that have chosen your heritage to form themselves around as a new nation is balanced by the potential opportunities that might come with suddenly finding you have a foothold (however desperate a foothold, since the nation it splinted from maybe just had its capital captured to cause the civil war) on some other planet.

We call such sprung-up-from-civil-war nations "upstarts" in our notes to distinguish them from civilisations that existed on a planet since its inception.

The problem for the Chinese is all their presences seem to be tiny ones; even where they were one of the initial colonists of a planet and grew quite large they got chopped way down small, being merely artificial-intelligence-controlled, by whatever nation(s) on the planet with them were controlled by players, as the artificial intelligence, even in "expert" or even "experimental" mode, just cannot compete well against real human players.

So the big question becomes whether it is worth paying the price a political party needs to pay to control even such small presences; the fee by square miles of territory is only around a hundred bucks a month or less (or maybe a little more, I didn't add up all their presences yet) but is in arrears 17 months by now, so I would imagine players would be wondering whether there is some profit to be made that would make it worth their while to take control of the Chinese in the Galactic Milieu.

The Russians, if indeed they have no presence yet, would have it easier, as all they would need to do would be to bribe someone who has a unit of colonists and a starship to indoctrinate the unit of colonists as people who dearly wish to found a new nation based on the tales and traditions of the mythical "Russians" of the mythical "Planet known as Earth", and drop them off on some planet to build the capital city of a new nation to be called Russia...

...Or maybe they could look up which nations have Russians listed among the preferred civilisations to break up into when having a civil war, and bribe someone to go capture that nation's capital to trigger a civil war, hoping one of the pieces it breaks up into does indeed choose to call itself Russians...

Probably because it's so close to next payment, so everyone that got paid last time already did their Vircurex...

Also, on this thought. (I am just suggesting these things, I am in no way aligned with these people)

Since the Masonic groups are baphomet worshiping power mongers who are robbing regular citizens blind, maybe they will use the Devil coin in some way. They already use the pentagram Smiley

And not just the masonic groups, any other Crowley-ians.

And the FOLKS nation, they are a nation that may want to use it, and their are millions of them all over America.

And there are plenty of semi Christian groups that call themselves "Satanists" and stuff, they aren't neccisarily bad people, but they would probably love to use this coin to scare Christians.
A few years back they discovered the devils number might be 616, not 666. They interviewed a high priest of a "satanic" church about the switch and if they would be switching, and he said they will use "Whatever number scares the Christians."

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.

I suggest once the error recovery and robustness is improved, another 6 share bounty be awarded.

Twobits improved receiver.h a lot, his file is at:
https://www.box.com/s/7mfl6mkogo4067qi15yc

and once Mark tests it in his reference build, I will copy it to the reference receiver.h:
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/receiver.h

For this Twobits gets the 6 share robustness award. Also Marticps quickly provided resized tweaked graphics for the builds, so he'll gets one share for graphics tweaking. Both awards are in the round 23 bounty file:
