The screen does black out after a few mins.   Another interesting thing about my other rig that didn't drop at all is that I unplugged the monitor cable from the GPU so I could use it on my Asrock H81 board that do need a monitor plugged in to start.   Don't know if that has anything to with it, but... let me do some test about that monitor being powered off by X scenario....
No wonder I didn't experience the drop, my rig has no monitor connected.

the drop also happens on some of my rigs without a monitor attached. all rigs running 290 and 290x cards.

run "aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f".

add these 4 lines into /etc/rc.local before exit 0

Code:
export DISPLAY=:0
xset s off
xset -dpms
xset s noblank

Just in case it's not already executable, run:

Code:
chmod +x /etc/rc.local

I have sent a 30 Darkcoin Bounty to cryptogretzky by myself.

As I only have 3 r9 290 I'll make 3 month to recover that bounty with my increased hasrate, but I'll be in peace with this bug.

If any-one want to pay me back a part of that bounty, here is my address to share the cost.

I tried to set the parameters mentioned above but I am still experiencing speed drops over time.
My drops always happen randomly, not after fix 10 minutes (could take just a few or even a couple thousand minutes until one or more cards slow down). And I never enabled either a screensaver/lock, nor any energy saving features (dpms was enabled in the xorg.conf by aticonfig as default but I think that depends on either the screensaver daemon or something else I never enabled -or even installed- during the gentoo setup).

just a short update. after the changes the drop is gone but after around 4 to 6 hours the complete mining rig freezes and a hard reset is needed.

update 2: the freeze of the complete rig happens now after a short period of time (30min up to 2h). When i revert the changes the rig runs stable for hours but the rate drops again.

You have an overclocking problem.
I have that same kind of problem, solved it by reverting memoryclock from 1500 to 1250.
I don't know if the change we made has a side effect, but I'm pretty sure that switching back your memory to 1250 will solve this issue. After you can have some stable mining, start overclocking again.

If the fix work, fell free to share with me the cost of the bounty I paid for it. My address is on the previous post.

Something fishy with groestl with this version?! Running it for 2-3 min produced no accepted shares, stopped, ran 26-03 build and it strted giving "accepted" in seconds.
Too tired for testing tonight :S

Hmm I haven't looked at phm's changes... i just ran my build macro
You can try the build in my github it has some other things added as well as a lot of the veox updates to sgminer. Though it still need a little work as incognito is a little flaky for some reason and n factor is broke after one of my updates
edit: nfactor is fine as long as you can spell properly.....
i.e. --algorithm or --pool-algorithm   not --alogrithm......

There is a pool at sic.supernova.cc
But I don't think it is on any exchange and it appears the maker abandoned it

When will blakecoin and heavycoin be incorporated in the miner? Since XPM is about to have a miner, will that be also a possibility in this sph miner? I like this miner because it's like a swiss army knife...lol

Any chance of twecoin (Algorithm:fugue -> shavite -> hamsi -> panama) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=553593.0

I see the files sph_figue, sph_hamsi, sph_panama, sph_shavite so it it's sphlib based.

For what coin? the groestl for groestlcoin and the groestl for myr are slightly different I think.. both supported, just different kernel names ("-k groestlcoin" vs "-k myriadcoin-groestl")

I haven't tried myriad but groestlcoin works fine for me

sph, please can we have twecoin... pretty please? It desperately needs a standalone miner and pools
