Who does he need to fight so to get that shot at it again?
This is very strange. Cause they allow him to fight even without the title to contend with.
I am reading the news now and I can't believe what happened.
Oliveira should take this weight cutting more seriously for every fight and more in championship title fight, but I never like how UFC is doing this weight cuts.
They allowed him to fight because they don't want to lose money from pay per view and ticket sales, we know Dana likes money above all things. Smiley

I can't recall the last two fighters that this happened too, anyone remember? I honestly believe lumping on Justin now to win, is probably a good idea. Since, he's going to be raring to go since he can still win it, while Olivera will be feeling a little bit disappointed, and knowing he can't win that belt on the night is going to demotivate him even further than he already is. You've got to feel for him though, missing out by half a pound, and being stripped of something he has already defended once, right?

Justin it is, I'm wondering how this might effect the odds going into the night. Might get a bet in early if they haven't changed too much.

No I don't think I ever saw anything like this happening before.
I am looking at odds now on Sportsbet and Oliveira is still favorite but odds is going up on him, and I think he is going to win because money is still involved and maybe he won't have so much pressure and he will be angry Smiley

It hasn't happened in the history of UFC towards a title holder.
Happened in a fight a few months back but it was within the allowed weight for a non-title holder. And another fight before that, from the R&D of the UFC.
But for any championship they have zero let on the subject of weight.

Should make for an interesting ceremonial weigh-in happening in about 15 minutes.

Sad news. Damn the fight still is scheduled. The thing is that if Olivera wins, he still won't get the belt but if Justin wins, he could get the belt. That's a fuckedup situation. This is not the first time Olivera has not achieve the weight though. This is a penalty however is just too  much. He has to restart again to win the belt, its becoming hard to  be champ seem designed to also mess current champs.

Gaethji will be holding a “fake” belt, if he wins, and would have to win somebody to make his belt legit. I think it will end like this.

Or, UFC would organize a fake title fight for Conor, then they would pray he would win and defend it. Imagine what money boost would UFC get, if Conor would be champ again.

It appears this weight issue for Charlie Olives is causing many people to doubt him hehehe. He did not have a weight issue. In an interview after his weigh in he said he went to sleep with the right weight, however, he woke up 0.5 pounds overweight and he cannot reduce it back to 155 pounds. He was not dehydrated, I reckon. I predict Charlie Olives will submit Justin Gaethje with rear naked choke hehehe.

How can this be real? You go to sleep with right weight, wake up being heavier? What can happen to organizm, that made it gain? How can he was not able to cut half pound? Cut hair, spit in a glass, cut nails, take out few teeth  Cheesy Ive read he was given 2h to cut these half pound. Plenty of time for sauna.

-snip-

I'll say it again, I think that whatever Justin does god, Olives does better (except for the knocking out part itself), and not only am I not counting him out, I actually think he will win this. Justin will have issues when the distance is closed for some dirty boxing that Oliveira likes to implement, grappling will be on Oliv's side and even some decent striking could be up to par with Justins.

Oliveira has one of the best boxing and added to that his Jiu-Jitsu is something fighters don't want to ignore, and even Justin Gaethje will surely have trouble dealing with fighters that finish the fight on the ground, but I think the reach advantage of Charles Oliviera can be a big factor here and he just needs to stay on his range and doesn't need to be crazy
with pressure, Gaethje can have that advantage, and the tendency for Justin Gaethje to lose to Oliveira is if he losses posture that would surely create an opening for Oliveira to slip a takedown,

Tony looks sad because of missing opportunities. He has been a marvellous fighter, but due to controversies with UFC (I remember he had hard times with Dana), he was either inactive for a long period or got opponents that he did not really want or victory over them did not give him much. How many times he had fights against Khabib cancelled? 3?

Or, he might be very tired due to weight cutting before this photo set. Or due to all these strikes to the face, he looks older than he really is.

I have sympathy to Tony, he is way better and interesting fighter than others in rooster. With his "ready to die in octagon", I feel really pity every time I see his bloody face in octagon.

I feel the same too, I am not a fan of Tony Ferguson, but I am really saddened about this picture, struggling to be the best in his career, but ending up not being on the top, I really think it is time for him to settle down and move on and try other careers, he can surely teach younger kids to be fit and open up his own gym, train younger generations on what he has learned on the UFC, he can surely do that, but I feel sad that he doesn't reach his goals on the UFC, but happy that he will have rest, but to find peace is for him to uncover, it will surely take time, but I will really miss that there was once a Tony Ferguson, that becomes a Legend inside the Octagon.

This must be so frustrating for Charles Oliveira, when he is up on the weighing scale he is pretty much confident that he made the weight but unfortunately after the judge has said that he didn't make it, It was a frustrating and curious Oliveira, fighting Justin Gaethje could have no drive anymore, he might be thinking what is the purposed of this fight, he was stripped of his belt and not a champion anymore, even if Oliveira win this fight he isn't champion anyone, he needs to win another fight just be to champion again, now many are really doubting Oliveira now, there are many things on his head that could cause him to lose on this fight, and the first champion to be stripped of the belt because he missed weight in.

Is that the champion mindset Oliveira has been talking about? XD Anyway, I don't think this makes Olive's will to fight and win, less, I would reckon it actually fires him up even more as he wants to prove himself and say that this was more of an error of judgment than an issue of him being the champion in the first place. As for Justin, nothing changes for him, he still can win it the same as he could have won it earlier.

Right, my predictions:

Justin Gaethje (I fancied him before all of this missing weight, so I'm sticking with it)
Carla Esparza (Changing it, this is what I was originally going to bet anyhow)
Michael Chandler (Probably my most confident pick of the night)
Ovince St. Preux
Joe Lauzon
Andre Fialho
Randy Brown
Norma Dumont
Brandon Royval
Blagoy Ivanov
Francisco Trinaldo
Tracy Cortez
Kleydson Rodrigues
Lupita Godinez
Fernie Garcia

I've got Justin, OSP, Chandler, Fialho, and Brandon Royval on a rather large accumulator, along with some football. Those are probably my most confident picks of the night. OSP being the lesser confident of the bunch. Along with Justin obviously, since that's going to be a close fight.

Yeah, I took a look, this is the first time this has happened apparently, that''s probably why I couldn't recall it happening. There's a conspiracy theory going on, that the weighing scales were inaccurate, that to be honest I don't there's much weight Wink behind that accusation.

^  A case could be made for Oliveira now as there's value going in for him from being a big favorite to just a slight favorite.  But yeah, I still think he's the pie shitter of the event.  I just feel like Gaethje throw an uppercut in there and knock Oliveira out.  The guy is kinda chinny...  He was dropped by Poirier and Chandler before that.  Gaethje could do it too.  Not too confident tho.  I put him at my bottom ticket.

Here were the weigh in results.

Charles Oliveira (155.5)* vs Justin Gaethje (155)
Rose Namajunas (115) vs Carla Esparza (115)
Michael Chandler (156) vs Tony Ferguson (155.5)
Mauricio Rua (205.5) vs Ovince Saint Preux (205)
Donald Cerrone (155.5) vs Joe Lauzon (155.5)
Andre Fialho (170.5) vs Cameron VanCamp (170)
Randy Brown (170.5) vs Khaos Williams (170)
Macy Chiasson (145.5) vs Norma Dumont (146.5)*
Brandon Royval (125.5) vs Matt Schnell (125.5)
Blagoy Ivanov (253.5) vs Marcos Rogerio de Lima (258.5)
Danny Roberts (170.5) vs Francisco Trinaldo (170.5)
Tracy Cortez (125.5) vs Melissa Gatto (125)
Kleydson Rodrigues (125.5) vs CJ Vergara (126)
Ariane Carnelossi (115.5) vs Loopy Godinez (115)
Fernie Garcia (135.5) vs Journey Newson (135.5)

*Missed weight

Anyway, it's a good thing the main event is still on.  It would suck for the fans who already paid for their tickets, PPV's and those who made the trip to Arizona.  If both fighters want to fight then they should fight.  I just wanna make my bet and watch them sling leather.

Here is my pick for the UFC 274

Charles Oliveira VS Justin Gaethje

I really know how awful it is for Oliveira to fight right now because of what happened at the weigh-in, he got stripped of his belt pretty much it is unfortunate and it was his unlucky day for something like this to happen, but for me even though there is a lot going up on his mind right now it doesn't mean that he would slack off from his fight, I think he Charles Oliveira will be in his 100% form, in my opinion, Oliveira can surely finish this in whatever fashion he like Justin Gaethje will be slick with his stand-off fight, and Oliveira needs to really move his head for Gaethje jabs, and because Oliveira doesn't have a good chin, but Oliveira's advantage on this was his reach and he needs to stay on that reach and pressure Gaethje with it, and there is a tendency that Justin Gaethje can lose his focus and may get away from Oliveira's strikes this could be an opportunity for Oliveira in getting on his takedown that is why my pick is still Charles Oliveira.

Rose Namajunas VS Carla Esparza

Wow! look at Rose Namajunas Height on Carla Esparza on the weight in, height and reach advantage pretty much Namajunas can just stay on that reach and give Esparza a hard time with strikes, we can all agree that a win from Zhang Weili is not a fluke it is really well executed by her, and even though Rose Namajunas is in an advantage over Esparza I think she will not underestimate her opponent and could take a technical approach towards her, so my pick will be Rose Namajunas.

Michael Chandler VS Tony Ferguson

Looks like age has given Tony Ferguson a makeover, he looks tired and weak on that picture, or that picture was only a setup so Chandler would lower his guard down, I really wish that Chandler would not give Ferguson a handicap, just because he is retiring from the UFC, I really want Chandler to give him a great fight that he can remember even though it is a lost remark, a great fight is what Tony Ferguson would want, and I really think that Chandler is in his top shape so my pick will be Michael Chandler.

It should be some sort of miscalculation from his team that he missed the weight, he informed through social media two days before the weigh ins that he is doing fine with his weight cut and then to get time to miss weight the first time and still was not able to reduce half a pound is some sort of misunderstanding or the scale he was weighing in the hotel room was wrong.

Unfortunate that he will be missing the belt before getting into the fight.

I've got a bone to pick with the UFC refs, I can't remember who was reffing now, probably because I was so annoyed. So, my predictions were going well right, until the Kleydson Rodrigues fight. However, his opponent grabbed the fence three separate times, and even maintained top position because of it. It wasn't punished once. So, whether or not Kleydson Rodrigues lost that fight overall, doesn't matter. When do we start punishing blatant fence grabs, especially when they actually directly benefit the fighter?

I feel there should be a zero tolerance if it results in them bettering their position or maintaining it. One point deduction straight away. I'm more annoyed because it basically ruined my accumulator for the night, but also am annoyed that nothing was done, when it was clear. It wasn't like the ref didn't see it, he bloody warned him all three times! CJ should have had the points deducted at least once, but risk it three times across multiple rounds.

I thought Tony had it going after round 1 and will continue to dominate the fight in striking but that front kick was so nasty. That's going to be added to the UFC highlights for front kicks along with Silva's KO of Belfort and Machida's KO of Couture. I feel bad for him but I had to play it back a few more times Grin

I hope his corner does the right thing and tell him his career as a pro fighter is over. He's really taken too much damage.

He is just not the same anymore since Gaethje fight and now its his 4th consecutive loss so ye Dana will unleash him for this.
Silva's KO of Belfort is also what I remember upon seeing it. Its hard to recover that hit, anyone got kicked that way may also fall that cold. Tony sees is coming, but he reacted slow in avoiding it.

I was waiting for Joe to ask whether Chandler felt the dizzyness he felt during his fight with Will Brooks. But seems fine.

Here you go.

Well, these results were unexpected. Not in a sense of the outcomes per se, but the duration of the Ferg/chandler and the main fight. These were lightning fast, I thought both would go to a decision.  Nothing much to say about those two, besides that it was chaos (not Khaos because that fight was not Cheesy). Even though it was a slow fight, I am glad Esparza took the belt. It seems a repeated pattern with Rose, three wins then a loos, you could almost bet money on it.

Did we comment on Cerrone dropping out of the Lauzon fight? Here is a wild suggestion, maybe Cerrone should hang them up.

I am glad i stayed away from placing any bet in this fight card. There was three split decision fights in the main event and only Charles Oliveira   and Justin Gaethje, Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson had a conclusive result because as i did not expect the fight to finished faster and if i placed a bet i might have went over and lost the bets.

Charles Oliveira may i lost his belt because he missed weight but he is proving himself to be a legendary fighter with his submission skills.

Carla Esparza cemented her place having got the number of Rose Namajunas and how to defeat her whenever they face. I expected Rose Namajunas to run over Carla Esparza before the fight but that was not the case.

Donald Cerrone pulled out of the fight and there is no specific reason said why he pulled out at the last moment but i think he got to have one more farewell fight if he really wants to do that because he was the go to fighter whenever there was a short notice call and he always fought last moment match ups.

It is time for Maurício Rua to hang his gloves, he is well over 40 years and he is not that fast like he used to be and there is nothing for him to prove now.

Michael Chandler just produced the best front kick knockout in MMA history and this is the first time i am seeing someone knocking out Tony Ferguson and he was out cold for a very long time.

I am really impressed with Charles Oliveira and his submission skills is out of the world.

Full credits to Carla Esparza for winning her belt again because Rose Namajunas was afraid to engage and it was a boring fight. From winning the inaugural belt, she was considered as a fluke winner as she was destroyed when she first defended it and now she reclaimed that gold once again, which is awesome and showcase her determination.
