I have no idea why the new owners went in for Potter because they are bringing in a manager with no experience of handling big national and international football stars. You are right he is not a world class manager and a very experienced manager or coach is required to fill that vacancy.
You are right. Potter has no experience in managing top clubs, he never leads a top club winning any titles. But this early season, he can lead Brighton to stay in the top four in EPL. I think it is the reason why Chelsea management hires Potter as their new coach. However, I agree that there should be another coach to fill that position, a coach that has experience in managing top clubs. Chelsea is a big club that has a goal to win the league title every season, and they are playing in UCL competitions as well. The new coach ideally is someone who has an experience in UCL competition and he ever won a title with a big team.

I think he is the wrong man for Chelsea. The new owners have shown they are as ruthless as the previous owners by the manner in which they dismissed Tuchel.

I have no idea why the new owners went in for Potter because they are bringing in a manager with no experience of handling big national and international football stars. You are right he is not a world class manager and a very experienced manager or coach is required to fill that vacancy.

I don't like the way Tuchel was fired as manager, but if Potter's hiring turned out to be for the right reasons in the long run, the club would benefit. Potter might not have been fortunate enough to coach a big team, but making a significant step in your coaching career does not automatically make you a better coach than those coaching smaller teams. This is Potter's first big project experience, and in terms of tactical talent, I believe he is more gifted than Tuchel. In contrast to Tuchel, who prefers to play more defensive football, Potter plays some of the best attacking football in Europe. By the way,

Todd wanted a coach who would be more involved in player development and assist the team in finding the best DOF before the January transfer window opened. We saw how Chelsea suffered in the recently closed transfer window due to a lack of DOF, and all of our top targets were taken from us.

Tuchel informed the Board that he would refrain from participating in extracurricular activities and that he would not assist the club in obtaining a DOF since he detests dealing with one.

Certainly, I understand that there were many people who didn't like Tuchel as a coach, but I also don't understand why those same people would accept Potter as the new coach of Chelsea. This is something that I just can't seem to get my head around. They brought him for an upgrade and I really cannot find how this can be an upgrade. As far as I am concerned, Chelsea has made a big mistake this time around. As such, I wouldn't have said such a thing if there was no better option available to them.

@igehhh, You know, they had Zidane and Pochettino as options. But I agree that Potter is someone who works more closely with the young players and keeps a close eye on the development of players. So in that sense, he is going to be better compared to Tuchel. And the attacking mindset of Potter is also a reason why he was chosen. Chelsea has been playing defensively for quite a long time now and something needed to change. But the way Tuchel was sacked was really not the best in my opinion.

Honestly there was no Zidane option for Chelsea.  Grin

Because Zidane has had no intention of managing a team in the recent times. PSG thought of making an offer for him while they were in search of a new manager. But Zidane stated his plans clearly after that. Chelsea must have been aware of the fact that their effort would be in vain so they didn't make any attempt as far as I know. Pochettino was definitely an option when we consider only the managers who were free agents then. Most people were expecting to see him however Chelsea surprised everyone by a record-breaking deal with Graham Potter. This is a risky deal at the same time of course. Not only for his being not very experienced but also for his high cost to the team.

As @igehhh stated he likes to play attacking football. This might be the way out for Chelsea to be more productive maybe. We have watched Chelsea preferring a defensive football for so many years. This is going to be an important change for the team considering that Potter would keep applying his own strategies to Chelsea also.

Todd and Potter had been in contact for some time prior to Tuchel's dismissal, and Potter was the reason we signed Cuccurela ahead of Manchester City in a behind-the-scenes scheme. He was the only option.

Football is a business, and since the owners are billionaires, they want to profit from their investment as well as allow the team to manage itself to some extent rather than just continually putting money into it. Keep in mind that this is a new regime with a unique way of doing things. Because a team needs a strong academy structure to be successful in the transfer window, much like Ajax and Dortmund have been doing for years, they want a coach who develops players and put more trust in the academy players. Potter has also been making more money for Brighton from player sales and development than any other mid-table team.

This has been a strategy sought by many clubs in Europe, especially smaller clubs, or smaller championships. Since this gives them the opportunity to form good players, without big costs, and then get a big sale.

This attitude, in turn, has made these clubs end up having better quality players, even if they are new, and thus achieving good results in some aspects.

This has only helped football to grow and to see more clubs fighting for titles, at least in national competitions.

This is the tradition Todd Boehly and co want to bring to Chelsea, we want the club to be more independent and build our players from the Academy so we do not have to rely on other team's players, he spent so much on bringing in Academy players this season and want a coach who can trust and develop them into a star. He had to sacrifice Tuchel for a greater long-term benefit because of this.

Our sales from the previous two seasons were poor because we were gradually transitioning into a buying club rather than a growing club..

Yes, it is true that Chelsea was making some arrangements from early on so that they could bring in Thomas Tuchel as the new coach. But at the same time, it is not like Zidane or Pochettino could not have worked well with the players that they have right now. But the deal has already been done and it cannot be reversed now. And as far as I know, the new coach works well with young players and also keeps a closer eye on their development. And currently, there are a lot of players in Chelsea who need to be properly trained for the upcoming challenges. So, I am not going to say anything about the decision which has been made already. All I am intending to say is that they need to make the best out of this decision.

I really don't know whether playing attacking football is going to be the solution for Chelsea. The performance of the players also needs to improve. It is not like the players are performing really well but the only problem is the coach. But I also agree that they need to change the way they have been playing. I believe these changes will be beneficial. And another thing I have seen is that whenever a team always keeps concentrating on playing defensively they are not performing well and when they start playing attacking football it feels like the opponents are also being intimated by them and that also affects the outcome of the match.

I think that we should not judge someone before he has had a chance to work with the team. While Graham Potter may not be as much renowned as Thomas Tuchel, I think that he should be given the chance to succeed Thomas Tuchel as I am sure that the management has their reasons for appointing him as the new manager for the club. According to what I have heard, Graham Potter has performed quite well for his last time, so I believe that he has earned the position at Chelsea that he has been given.

The games of this week might all be postponed once again. Because there are already two games that have been postponed due to national mourning:

Manchester United - Leeds
Chelsea - Liverpool

This is too much for the teams I think. The schedule is getting tighter by every postponement. There is already a fact like a World Cup in November so things are getting more difficult for the teams and players. In a tight fixture, players might get injured more easily and this might cause some big problems for the teams competing for the league title also. After this week we won't see any game until the first days of October. I wonder if they are thinking of putting at least the games of one postponed week into this space. It seems like an opportunity to me.

@Tony116 his appointment reminds me of Moyes in 2013, where at Everton he was doing well but he flopped at Manchester United because he had never handled a big club, and thus I feel that Potter may suffer the same fate unless he acts ruthlessly at Chelsea.

@ILuckyGuyI I believe that all managers and player’s would be worried, and the only solution to this is extend the league ending dates because it’s inhuman for player’s to play so many games continuously.

With the postponement of the English league competition, it will certainly have a negative impact on players and coaches of several clubs in the English league, considering that a busy schedule this season awaits, however, there are also clubs who get lucky as a result of the postponement of the seventh week of the Premier League match. One of them is Chelsea, Graham Potter because the coach who replaced Tuchel is considered to have had longer time to make adjustments and be able to get to know his players more closely and another club that got a no-nonsense fortune is Liverpool because Liverpool players are now experiencing a storm of injuries, resulting in the postponement. Match week seven gives more time to jorgen Klopp to focus more on recovering the injuries suffered by Liverpool players.

This is really a chance for Graham Potter to build strong strategies and a strong relationship with the players indeed. He came and started with a Champions League match quickly. He didn't have much time to think of the right game plan for the team. They still performed nicely though but Salzburg still got that point despite having very few goal chances during the match. I'm hopeful that Chelsea will have a better run in the rest of the season after Potter takes his time to choose the right tactics for the team.

As for injuries, Aubameyang has returned after suffering an injury also. He was able to play for around an hour last night. Maybe he didn't score the goal but this is good news for Chelsea. He would use this time interval to adapt to the team completely and hopefully start performing as he did at Barcelona. They need his goals to have more comfortable results.

By the way,
No football club owner would ever choose Potter over Tuchel if both were out of a job and that says it all. Potter will probably fail at Chelsea, I think he is a misfit for the club.

Taking a small club to the top 4 after a handful of games at the beginning of the season is no reason to make him manager of a Premier League club the size of Chelsea. I think the new owners will continue to make mistake after mistake and Chelsea could find themselves on the same path of wilderness as Manchester United after they lost the stability of Ferguson as their manager.

We might face the same fate as David Moyes, but it is still too early to judge him. I think that he should be given enough time to be judged. I think we can wait till the end of the year to get a verdict on how he is doing with his new team, Chelsea. The good news is that since the Premier League was postponed for a while, he now has quite a bit of time to prepare his team for the next match.

This postponement is going to be hit or miss for some teams. The reason for this is that teams like Chelsea will have more time to prepare for the next game. In addition, they will have their injured players back in time for the following games. On the other hand, this could be detrimental to teams that are currently on a winning streak, such as Arsenal or Manchester City since they might lose their momentum. I think that Graham Potter should take advantage of this postponement and make maximum use of this to get his team and his strategy ready.

We've sacked better coaches than Tuchel in the past when things weren't going well; they weren't sacked because they were bad coaches; they were sacked because they couldn't control the dressing room and the players weren't motivated. Tuchel may have had the opportunity to manage a bigger team, but that doesn't make Potter, who only had one shot at managing a big team, any less talented.

Tuchel would not survive a season at Brighton with such low budgets if he hadn't survived a top club with a huge budget for more than three years. Getting rid of managers has benefited us far more than any other English team. Give Potter some space Jolly Grin

it is not the same thing to manage Chelsea or Brighton. the difference is in much greater expectations and much bigger pressure. Just remember Moyes, he has been very solid in Everton where they are satisfied with solid results. but when he arrived in the club where constant wins are an obligation, the pressure ate away at his abilities.
it's one thing when you manage a club like Chelsea, Man United or Liverpool were all "small" club comes to play the best they can, victory here means almost as much as winning the title. while it is something completely different when you play to stay in the middle of the table, and against big teams most people expect you to lose.

It is interesting to see most of the matches being played on this week and only two of them being postponed due to national mourning. I mean why not all of them?  Grin

There is still time for the matches at the weekend of course so maybe the final decision might still change. The leader Arsenal are going to play against Brentford away. This isn't an easy match for them honestly. Because Brentford are one of the best home teams of the season now. They didn't lose in 3 home matches. They scored 10 goals and conceded 3. In addition, they beat Arsenal here by 2-0 last season. They might be able to make big difficulties for Arsenal in this one also. Arsenal are of course much stronger than last season but they shouldn't feel themselves too comfortable in this one. Otherwise Brentford can really upset them.

I'm most likely betting on both teams to score @1.65.

Arsenal newly stumbled in the Manchester United game. It was their first big game of the season and they failed. Brentford aren't one of the big opponents maybe but they are still dangerous these days indeed. We all remember how they demolished Manchester United 4-0 in this stadium. Of course Manchester United were in a poor shape but we shouldn't overlook Brentford's high effort at the same time. Arsenal will need to focus on their defense even more. I know they like to play fast and attacking focused. But Brentford can punish them if they leave a big space in defense.

This week might be a chance for Manchester City by the way. They are playing away against Wolves. Wolves are in a pretty bad shape recently and they barely got their first win of the season in their last game. Manchester City have a very positive history against Wolves in the recent years (e.g. 5-1 win last season). After drawing with Aston Villa this time I expect them to get a clear win against Wolves. Their performance against Dortmund was worrying a little but I don't think they will be the same in this game.

RESULTS:

Friday 16th September 2022
Aston Villa 1-0 Southampton
Nottingham Forest 2-3 Fulham

Saturday 17th September 2022
Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-3 Manchester City

Fixtures for today:
Brighton and Hove Albion vs Crystal Palace (postponed)
Newcastle United vs Bournemouth
Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City

Newcastle United and Bournemouth are 0-0 at half time. Tottenham and Leicester City play in the evening kick-off.

Manchester City are simply playing excellent football and adding Haaland means they might have the team this season to win the Champions League. What potential this team has now because they will probably win the Premier League but what else can they add to their trophy cabinet?

Manchester City really have the strength to achieve the Premier League and Champions League title both this season. They had a very reliable performance against Wolves today. I'm curious about how many goals Haaland will score in this season. He has 11 goals in 7 matches already. He is the biggest candidate for the golden boot also even if it might be early to talk about it.

Tottenham - Leicester was an incredible match. Considering the result of the first half it seemed like it was going to be a very tough match. But Tottenham played the second half better as usual. Son had the biggest role in this 6-2 win by making a hat-trick. We weren't seeing him scoring any goal for a long time. It was good to see him breaking a leg finally and he did it with a very special performance. Now I'm believing more in Leicester to relegate this season. It must be really painful for their supporters to see their team this much weakened after one season. They finished last season at the 8th position so I wonder what has changed this much.

RESULTS:

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-3 Manchester City

Newcastle United 1-1 Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur 6-2 Leicester City

These are the results for the games played today. Not only did Manchester City beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-3, it was a great 6-2 win for Tottenham over Leicester City. Conte will be delighted as Spurs managers but Rodgers will probably be sacked very soon because he has failed this season as Leicester City manager.

Here is the league table as it stands after the games played today:
