But strange, at least here in Italy and Europe guarantee of any product is at least two years, I do not know why you bitmain of dates only 90 days warranty. This and a mystery Undecided

Do remember that products sold from a non EU seller to an EU buyers don't have the same rights as EU sellers to EU buyers. Although KNCMiner's legal team seemed to conclude they could sell with 90 days with EU to EU.

They also have other larger units which may be cheaper that connecting a bunch of 10K units in parallel.

yes, it's the powerpack, but I'm not sure the price/kwh will be much better.
the lithium batteries are probably making 80% of the final price.

And you are limited to 9x 10kw powerwall linked together acting as one 90kw power source.
I'll do a small xls spreadsheet to check how long it'll take to ROI if I'd use one at home to charge during the night (low rate during 8 hours) and discharge during peak rate hours.
Don't forget you'll need to buy an inverter to power your house with this powerwall. It's outputing DC current.

This isn't interesting right now, but as the factory comes online and prices come down (we don't know by how much obviously) due to mass production it will be... Many options become interesting... You could charge up at night when it's 2 cents on a smart meter and mine during peak times from the packs then switch to the grid etc... Other options become interesting as well.  I find it useful from the perspective of footprint as well...

If we assume:
  • 2c at night
  • 10c during the day
  • 10KWh capacity
  • 10 year warranty
  • no performance degradation
  • no additional hardware required
  • we max it out every day for 10 years

Then we 'save' $0.80 a day, $292 a year, $2920 over the lifetime. With current small units @ $3500 per 10KWh, its possible. How common are dual tariffs with such cheap night prices and normal day prices? In the UK we get higher day prices when lower high prices, which for mining even with storage doesn't get close to just a 'lowish' single tariff?

The answer is probably never. If we're talking $350/KWh currently, lets make up 'trade sized' unit for $200/KWh. So to run even just an Antminer S5 overnight its a $1200 investment just for the power storage. Now given they have 10 year warranties, and ignoring any degradation, we could say this unit will power 15 S5's or similar over its 10 year lifespan.

Investment per S5 is now $120 for the storage, nevermind the solar system or the inverter. If someone wants to take the analysis forwards then by all means.

The commonality of components doesn't make them cheap. High amp DC-DC is expensive.

Only if you don't know how to design them properly.
Huh That's like saying cars cost less to buy if you're a good driver.

No, it's not. A poorly designed power supply can end up costing a lot more than a well designed one. The car analogy is nonsense.

You're arguing that off the shelf components cost more 'if you design them wrong', which doesn't make sense. If however you were trying to say that 'if you design the system wrong, and use more components than you should...', then sure but that's not what we were discussing.

We already know if that if you use 10 gold ingots to wedge open a door, its going to cost more than if you were to use 5 gold ingots to do the same job, its just a given. What we were actually discussing was the merits of using gold ingots to wedge open a door in the first place.

DC to DC components do have a cost, but the design as a whole can be more efficient (power efficiency and ROI wise) than without.

No one said anything about comparing high amp DC-DC to no DC-DC. But now we are, are you actually trying to argue that string design on small chips makes them less efficient and more expensive?

Big difference between being openly hostile and slagging the competition and having a vigorous debate about the potential of this chip.

Says the guy who entirely just ignored the entire debate to attack me? Roll Eyes

Do not forget how highly rated dogie thought of Technobit while were at it. Higher at times than even Spondoolies Tech.

I try to be nice and yet you still keep making up stuff? Must be wonderful living in your head and not having to justify any of the rubbish you say. At no point has Technobit ever been higher than Spondoolies.

I am surprised also by the comment about the cost of such a DC2DC gadget. It seems like that, and an adjustable frequency gadget are pretty common these days, on a whole range of mining devices.

U also know the answer on what the MTBF, Main Time Before Failure, on average, in good environment conditions, would be?

I don't know, and don't know how much data we'd need. Perhaps it could be done on other miners, the oldest Bitmain hardware should be about 15 months old by now.
1728  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: May 01, 2015, 09:58:25 AM
My only hope now is that guy.

Yeah we will need bitmaintech to sell to the general public. If we want to mine in house.

Jihan Wu (BitMain CEO) was also on the panel, he also indicated that it was much more efficient to simply keep the miners in China and mine there, however I believe they will continue to sell to the public...

Edit: Guy also speculated that the only thing 21 Inc. could have raised so much capital for was home mining equipment, most likely integrated into something else...

Just to be clear, that picture is of Yoshi (runs Bitmain USA), not Jihan. I prefer this version so there is no confusion.

1729  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: May 01, 2015, 09:56:17 AM
Interesting info: it looks like new Spond machine will be ~0.25w/GH. An easy calculation from the numbers below
see from this:
Quote
The new mining facility is expected to handle more than 10 megawatts of power and up to 40,000 TH/s (terrahash per second) of mining hardware for “transaction verification” operations. (That means bitcoin mining, but with a crisp business-like aura.)
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/20191/bitcoin-shop-btcs-merge-spondoolies-tech-create-publicly-traded-bitcoin-mining-company/

That requires the assumption that all hardware in there is newest gen. They were a large consumer of the SP3x gen and I can't really see them turning what they already have off any time soon. So new gen may have better efficiency but at a facility level average it appears higher.

I am not particulary happy with the fact that Bitmain decided to not build in an LCD screen.
Even more so, I just hate the fact that there is no "buzzer"
Why would they do that, it was convenient and a good thing to have. The buzzer is just important to have.
Does anyone know WHY they decided to not include an LCD and an buzzer in this model?
For the price and especially the power usage they could at least have placed(keeped) the buzzer..why did they remove it, where they did have it in the "normal" S4..?

Few things:
1) Stock moved from static to DHCP so it can't get stuck on random IPs, which was the main purpose of the LCD.
2) Its got a quick setup button for minerlink, which works similar to WPS devices on a router.
3) Almost no overclocking (overheats) and no underclocking (fixed voltage so constant W/GH). Makes reporting GH/s rather pointless.
4) The buzzer annoyed people more than anything. In small farms it was annoying, in large farms it was often difficult to locate.
5) The buzzer often wouldn't disable properly which was exceptionally annoying.
6) Did I mention the buzzer was annoying? Tongue Maybe it will reappear in another model though.
1731  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who Are The Manufactures Currently Selling Chips ? on: May 01, 2015, 03:13:25 AM
Hammer, not Rockerbox. It's 6.8 SP10s worth if I'm thinking right, but yeah that is a lot of chips.

Oh very true, 192 chips per SP10. Yikes, that must have been $10,000+ even towards the end of the gen. Sorry Bick.
1732  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie PM warning on: May 01, 2015, 03:08:18 AM
I found hard to believe old users fall for newbies scam attempts easily. Hope this helps. Good addition theymos.

Its not that farfetched when you're expecting a PM from someone without an Avatar. Traders of advertisers especially get a lot of PMs and so might just skim for the content of a PM they were expecting.

How many amps is a 1500w Miner going to pull on a 220/240v Circuit?? my math says like 6.25... thats nothing

 (meaning I can safely run 3 S4+ on a single 20A 220)
At 240V it's 6.25A.  Meaning you can safely run 2 on a 240V/20A circuit.  You only load a breaker to 80% for constant draw.
At 220V it's 6.82A.  Again, you can safely run 2 on that circuit.

Anyway, Bitmain choosing to basically abandon the typical US consumer is an unpleasant reality now.

Because this product doesn't fit your situation doesn't mean they've abandoned you. The S4+ might not be for you and that's okay.
1735  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer C1 Setup [HD] on: April 30, 2015, 09:33:00 PM
Where can I get the 'specialist coolant' for the C1?

Amazon has it.  I have ordered two different brands from them.

Both have worked fine for me.  I just highly suggest don't use regular water as some do.

I like FeserOne, but on US Amazon its quite expensive at $20 /L delivered. And you'll want to get a litre.

Can't figure out what that FBB voltage is...
forward body bias - see chip datasheet

Quote
Body bias involves connecting the transistor bodies to a bias
network in the circuit layout rather than to power or ground.
The body bias can be supplied from an external (off-chip) source
or an internal (on-chip) source. In the on-chip approach, the
design usually includes a charge pump circuit to generate a
reverse body bias voltage and/or a voltage divider to generate
a forward body bias voltage. Reverse body bias, which involves
applying a negative body-to-source voltage to an n-channel
transistor, raises the threshold voltage and thereby makes the
transistor both slower and less leaky. Forward body bias, on the
other hand, lowers the threshold voltage by applying a positive
body-to-source voltage to an n-channel transistor and thereby
makes the transistor both faster and leakier. The polarities of the
applied bias described above are the opposite for a p-channel
transistor.

So it saves power by utilising a non 0V ground?
1737  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who Are The Manufactures Currently Selling Chips ? on: April 30, 2015, 10:05:16 AM
We have 1300 Sptech Hammers in the tray still sealed. Guy might have more if you are keen on talking to them as well about the Hammer or the Rockerbox.

PM me if you want them at reasonable cost, they'd be shipping from Seattle.

Weren't 200 of those free sample chips? I thought you would have used them a while ago. Anyway that is a lot of chips, 160 SP20's worth.
1738  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 30, 2015, 09:49:35 AM
Interesting data sheets, suggests dual mode may be viable compared to a single mode. Will be interesting what the final product will be 'stock-ed' at as GH / power has quite a large range tremendously. Don't have a complete data curve so these are just arbitrary points for now.

BTC only:
72GH @ 0.32W/GH
152GH @ 0.64W/GH.
1739  Other / Meta / Re: people "buying" trust without you noticing? on: April 30, 2015, 08:46:35 AM
I don't see why someone shouldn't leave feedback for loans that they complete. If someone borrows 0.01 BTC and pays back 0.015 BTC, make sure you leave that in your feedback. If someone has proven themselves trustworthy with 0.01 BTC, that doesn't mean they are trustworthy with any larger sums.

500 positive feedback from the most trusted members of the forum for 0.01 BTC each, doesn't make that person trustworthy with 5 BTC, maybe with 0.05.

How about 780 BTC and few people that verify it?

Then a mass of bullshit neg ratings?

Would you give me $80K USD to hold for you?

Trust no one unless you are willing and able to lose every satoshi.

How is that relevant to what he said?
