I'm afraid you're a couple of months too early to be joining this campaign... but you're someone's alt account, so you already knew that, right? Tongue
2142  Economy / Services / Re: CoinPiler Sig-Campaign: Earn $37, $197, $3997 In BTC with your Signature!!! on: October 04, 2014, 12:34:56 PM
another campaign which requires sr member as the main requirement maybe next all campaign requires only for sr member rank and up

There was a large influx of users late last year / beginning of this year, which led to there being a large number of Senior Members at present - that plus signature limitations for newer ranked members, makes it desirable to hire only Senior Members and up.

In relation to the regular contributor campaign - would you be willing to use escrow, letprice? I guess 3 btc would be enough, given the 30 member limitation.

[...] The Escrow part will be added once I redo the whole table, which will then also show if a signature campaign has paid in the past or not (PYNC). Wink

Great, looking forward to it. Let us know if you need people to gather information about currently running campaigns. Smiley

Meanwhile, one more campaign:

CoinPiler (Thread)
Payment period: Monthly.
Minimum posts: 100 posts per month.
Payments: S/H/L: 0.1BTC per month.
Miscellaneous: Must have a minimum of 1000 posts to enroll. Maximum of 30 participants.

You can see more detailed information here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=746016.msg9077387#msg9077387 (in the "For Regular Contributor" section). So far, it seems not to be using escrow.
2145  Other / Off-topic / Re: IS UFO or ALIENS are real ? on: October 04, 2014, 11:08:00 AM
The point wasn't that there was some other life. The point was that someone might claim that there was other life because they found man-introduced life - be it by accident or on purpose - without clearly being able to identify that it was man-introduced.

So far the only evidence we have for life not on earth is, that there are all kinds of chemicals out there that are the same kinds as here. But that's to be expected, if stars work in similar ways. None of it says life.

Smiley

Yes, I understood your point; I was just disagreeing with the idea that we wouldn't be able to identify that it was man-introduced - if by accident, we would almost certainly be able to at least determine what organisms it originated from; if on purpose, it would still be limited by current knowledge and abilities, and so likely to be traced back to us. But take it with a grain of salt; this isn't really my field. Tongue

As to whether or not life actually exists out there somewhere, I stand by my previous point: it just seems too unlikely for there not to be any - but don't take that to mean that aliens necessarily visited Earth though; I've seen nothing to convince me of that (which is a shame, because I'm still looking forward to that threesome with two hot alien chicks; do I need to move to Australia for that?). War is way too profitable for there to be global peace, arms manufacturers are one of the few industries the West hasn't completely outsourced to Asia.

A good book to read about this subject is Jeremy Scahill's: The World Is A Battlefield

@u9y42 Big fan of the Real News Network, will check out the links you posted

I particularly like their RAI segments - they often have some great interviews.

As to the profit motive you mention, I was just seeing the following news story from The Young Turks (also think they're pretty good), that touches upon it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8u9sHVVoGk (titled "Profits From Syrian Airstrikes Will Churn Your Stomach").
2147  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: October 04, 2014, 07:26:42 AM
Thanks for that. I've posted it in the thread about him in the Scam Accusation's sub (not sure if you already told Stunna or not). https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=809084.msg9064241#msg9064241

I think he'll probably pay for the sig campaign going for a longcon on the casino instead.

He said he will pay "trusted" members upfront for 50 posts so I would say he would pay only this amount to earn additional trust among members. I also see that he did not put a limit as to how many people can participate (which is unusual for a new site as they are generally not large enough to have a large advertising budget). By getting more people to participate they would get more people to deposit funds at their site and they would likely hope they can run away with customer funds within a month when the amount of customer funds gets large enough.

I do see that TECSHARE removed his positive trust so he is no longer a trusted member.

I asked him about member limits, and he says he is considering limiting it to 50 members, which although a large number isn't unusual, I think. Also, according to him, most users would get paid upfront - at least judging by his example. I would still prefer escrow though.

EDIT: hilariousandco beat me to it... Tongue

EDIT2: that reminds me: what about the suggestion of editing the OP to contain information about whether or not a campaign has funds in escrow? It currently details those that pay upfront, but I think this would also be useful information to have.
2148  Economy / Services / Re: ONEDICE Signature campaign - [0.001/post] on: October 04, 2014, 06:44:14 AM
Is there a limit to the number of members you are looking to accept? This might not be much of a problem since you only accept Senior Members and up, but it may be a good idea to define that as soon as possible. Also, instead of upfront payment to select users, wouldn't it be better to use escrow? Not only are some willing to do this job for free, but it offers much better assurance to both parties.
2149  Other / Archival / Re: www.barwickmining.com - Signature Campaign on: October 04, 2014, 06:29:29 AM
One thing I would like to see more of in signature campaigns is users being allowed to promote several sites - even if for reduced pay. I'm not sure there are many other campaigns that allow this at the moment however (I think Bitmixer does), but it would be nice to see.
2150  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is happening with our world and humanity on: October 04, 2014, 06:08:20 AM
Several months ago, The Real News Network had an interview with David Swanson, the author of "War is a Lie", that covered this subject well, I think. Here are the links to the 3 part interview, if you want to see it (the first is more autobiographical, if I remember correctly, but the others are well worth it):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzwaSbWD8C0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM5qIvVLGg0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIcOdilpXUU

War is cannot be avoided. There will always be war no matter what the date is. It is imbedeed in our genes. War destroy things war also force us to create new things. There are no government that will last forever it will be destroyed by others or it destroys itself. This is just human nature. Humans are predator.

maybe in another 500/5,000/10,000 years, if we're still here, greed will be left behind and share will prevail Smiley

Why would it? There is no evolutionary pressure to select for "sharing genes". That being said, I don't think greed is the issue. There are plenty of ways to acquire wealth without resorting to war.

No, the real problem with human nature is the tendency of individuals to surrender their individual will to a crowd/mob mentality. That's what allows individuals with malevolent intent to seize power and bewitch the populace, and then go on to do violence. The reason monsters like Hitler or Stalin came to power is not greed, but because others were willing to follow them, were willing to die for them in fact. It is the human ability to cooperate with each other, to put one's own thoughts and ideas and self-interest and the evidence of their senses out of mind while obeying someone else, that is the fatal flaw that leads to so much war. Without it, it would only be the occasional individual fighting another when they can't get along, rather than those individuals having millions of willing followers slaughtering millions of others.

I'm not convinced by this idea that "war is just part of human nature, and there is nothing you can do about it". As David Swanson put it in the above interview, there has always been a war somewhere, but at the same time there has always not been a war some many more places - in fact, you often have situations in which what led to war in one place didn't in others, despite very similar circumstances. Further, in many cultures, segments of the population (women for example) have traditionally been kept out of conflict; that being typically reserved for men - as he puts it, if women can not do it, why can't men leave it? So, I tend to agree with his explanation that war is mostly a cultural phenomenon: we consider wars to be acceptable, so we enter them, or incite others to do so for our profit.

In this sense, I only partly agree with Bonam; sure, the "group mind" or "gramophone mind", as George Orwell put it in the preface to the Animal Farm, is a problem, and many succumb to it; but you can't forget that, for example in the two cases you presented (Hitler and Stalin), the population at large actually had a lot to gain from their policies. If you weren't one of those being oppressed, both Germans and Russians were living much better off; at least initially - that's one way they managed to hold on to power so easily. So, I don't think it's necessarily the case that people unquestioningly accept that crowd mentality; but rather that they often believe they profit from war, and use the given justifications that they are better than whomever they are busy oppressing at the moment, or that they are somehow actually helping them - look at the US's foreign policy for a good example here.

I believe that with current technoloies and systems aimed at spotting things that may collide with earth we would have plenty of time not only to watch weather guy/girl announce it, but also make some debates, polls, protests and many others things pror to impact Smiley

yep and no matter what they say were still going to get pummeled by a rock. humanity had no chance

Actually, I think that whether or not humanity would have a chance, would depend on a couple of things: mainly, how long before the impact you detect the comet, how large it is, and its composition. If you have years of advance notice, you can try to tug it out of harm's way (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_tractor) - that would be the best bet at the moment, I guess. Less than that, you could try more direct approaches (destroy, deflect, etc.), but chances might be good that we would still get it, if not by the comet itself, by the debris.
2153  Other / Off-topic / Re: IS UFO or ALIENS are real ? on: October 02, 2014, 12:14:09 AM
PROOF of space aliens:

No $#!t, the footprint below was made on the moon by a creature from another world!

But seriously, there is a problem with the mathematical likelihood assumption. This idea assumes that because space is vast and full of worlds not to different than ours, there is a good chance that other life exists. And just as we predicted that we would find other planets it is predicted that we will eventually find other life.

That makes sense, but the problem is that we have only one example of life. If we had even two examples then we could assume that life is common in the universe. One data point tells you almost nothing. Since all living things we are aware of are actually the same one living thing and species are just variations of that first DNA life form, it is possible that life only happened once and this is it.

It's true that it could be the case that some step required for the appearance of life is so unlikely, that it only ever occurred once - after all, we still don't even understand all the steps that lead to it. But if it happened once, then we know for a fact that no matter how unlikely, it is possible. All other things being equal, if we have very similar values for all of the variables that led to life on Earth, we would probably get a similar outcome.

And indeed, as you say, space is vast, the number of worlds not too dissimilar to Earth is probably large, and the chemical elements that we know are required for life similar to ours is abundant throughout the universe. But there are at least 3 other things you also have to consider:

One, the possibility that life as we know it is not the only way life can exist - sure, we only know about one type, but I know of no reason why it should be unique. Perhaps life can be composed of (slightly, or not so slightly) different elements than those that life on Earth is based on, increasing the chances for it appearing elsewhere.

Two, even if life as it exists on Earth is the only way life can exist, it could still be the case that it originated elsewhere first, and somehow found its way to Earth - and perhaps other welcoming planets as well. Or perhaps some more elaborate components that it requires did: water (http://www.iflscience.com/space/solar-systems-water-predates-sun), "biologically interesting molecules" (http://www.space.com/1686-life-building-blocks-abundant-space.html) and so on could be sufficiently abundant to kick start the process in several places at once.

Third, time. Often forgotten, but the universe is over 13 billion years old, and it could be that the conditions for life similar to that on Earth to appear have existed for some 8 or 9 billion years - ~ since stars similar to the Sun started coming along (population I stars). That's plenty of time for unlikely events to occur repeatedly. And perhaps one reason for why we don't see any evidence of intelligent life out there at the moment is that we are just too young and primitive, and most others are a couple billion years older - who knows, we may not even be able to recognize them for what they are if we got a change to see them.

These people would have investigated all the available data before doing the life-hunting on Mars project - http://www.space.com/27073-exolance-mars-life-search-idea.html .

This means that as far as anybody knows, there isn't any life out there. Anything to the opposite is simply speculation. My one fear is that we are going to inadvertently introduce life out there, and then we'll try to claim we found it.

Of course, this project might be a great way to covertly start terra-forming Mars.

Smiley

Even if it was the case that life was introduced elsewhere from Earth, the similarities would likely make it obvious there was some sort of relationship - that is, we'd probably have a good idea that it either evolved from a previously known organism, or lacking that, we could at the very least suppose there was some prior common origin to both sources of life.

Aha, I remember having this issue when I chose a password using special characters. I think it's poor practice they can't be used... but meh. Try sticking to uppercase, lowercase and numbers and see if you still have a problem.

[...] also a side note when signing up enter your username and email in all lowercase letters or the page won't accept it (took me a while to figure that bit out lol)
2155  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] DiceBitco.in Signature Campaign - Continued Again... on: September 27, 2014, 06:28:41 PM
correct but im sure there is reason, maybe they know that 5 bitcoins cant pay everyone so they wanna leave early

If that was the case, it seems to me that they might as well have not returned to the campaign at all, or at least ended it earlier by themselves (like, a week ago). I mean, even now, the maximum payout would be something along the lines of 6 bitcoins - considering ~30 users left in the sig campaign, all paid at Senior Member level, and assuming everyone makes the (technical) maximum of 200 constructive posts - all in all unlikely.
2156  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] DiceBitco.in Signature Campaign - Continued Again... on: September 27, 2014, 05:44:29 PM
Ahh I see but they did breach the contract cause I see nothing saying they wanna continue, nor they gave any warning, why follow the rules when they fuck others.
The signature campaign has nothing to do with the website, nor has the contract. DiceBitco.in has stated that they will pay, if they don't Dooglus does. He has stated this clearly:

It sounds as if the DB guys are taking control of their signature campaign again, so I will no longer be checking signatures or updating the OP of this thread. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=716312.msg8903158#msg8903158 for details.

If they don't pay at the end of the month, please post here and I'll use the escrowed coins to pay.

ok I just feel bad for the people wanna leave, as there is nothing stating they will pay.

Except, perhaps, the fact that dooglus still has coins in escrow? Tongue There is no reason to believe they won't get paid when all is said and done.
2157  Economy / Services / Re: Pocket Dice Signature Campaign on: September 27, 2014, 04:49:27 PM
It says "You have already joined signature campaign" I didn't join anything. That's weird. Roll Eyes

Is there any way in which Pocket Dice enforces that you are who you say you are in the site? Because if not, and if people don't have to confirm anything here, someone could have used your username/ID in there (not sure why anyone would, except maybe if they have negative feedback and wouldn't be able to join the campaign, or something like that).

EDIT: Hmm, it seems the site then verifies your forum signature when you join, so this would probably not be as easy to abuse as I suggested.
