3061  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: (Review/Guide) Hotmine X5 upgrade kit for Antminer S1/S3/S5 on: April 08, 2017, 05:30:03 PM
Hey everyone.  Wanted to let you know that I received a response from hotmine!

They basically asked me:

1) How many & which kit do I want
2) My address

HagssFIN I assume since you obviously have a kit, you can vouch that this is a stand-up company?
Yes I can confirm that I had a smooth deal with Hotmine and mr. E. Turanov for this X5 kit.

This is a good kit for those with needed DIY skills for the upgrade.
As soon as I get the BB board and get this running I can have my final words on this.

Nice review. I have some S5s with dead Hash boards if you want them for kit work. Can send a big box.
Thanks, but I'm not planning to do a business on this.  Smiley
3062  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: (Review/Guide) Hotmine X5 upgrade kit for Antminer S1/S3/S5 on: April 07, 2017, 01:51:27 PM
I'm still waiting for the BB board but I did something today, see the 2nd message in this thread.  Smiley
3063  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Soooo, how about that Bitmain? on: April 07, 2017, 01:49:20 PM
I read that Asicboost is not possible if there is a soft-fork solution to Segwit and that would be the reason why Bitmain would love so much a hard-fork solution like Bitcoin Unlimited for example.
3064  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: April 07, 2017, 12:17:14 PM
They share transaction fees for miners. And it is more healthy choice for Bitcoin network in a long run.
3065  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: April 07, 2017, 09:27:44 AM
Is slushpool better than antpool?
Yes, I prefer Slush or Kano over Antpool.
3066  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New mining pool ConnectBTC.com Launches with 106% PPS on: April 06, 2017, 09:48:58 PM
So do you mean that you have a voting possibility for miners like Slush pool has?
3067  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can I use something like natural water cooling? on: April 06, 2017, 06:02:30 PM
Hell no.
3068  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: (Review/Guide) Hotmine X5 upgrade kit for Antminer S1/S3/S5 on: April 06, 2017, 05:48:46 PM
I'm wondering why don't they sell it to broad masses of S1/S3/S5 owners? I am trying not to buy several X6 upgrade kits - still no result (may be they will say something before the end of this week, if not - I buy Avalon741). And I have not yet heard that someone bought these upgrade kits...
Yeah, I've only seen two of these kits: yours (X6 kit) and mine  Smiley

They do have a lot of potential customers. I bet there is a lot of people who still have old Antminers.

April 10, 2017 update part 2
Today I received the BB board in today's mail, and it was time to move on with this build.  Smiley

BB board attached to the controller board.

I made a support bracket for the controller by using parts that I was able to find in my everything-box  Grin.
It consists of two PC case PCI-slot covers, some screws and other stuff.
Pictures will tell more about the details.

And here is the test setup.

After some testing I decided to change fans and these type fans are nice and quiet ones that I use now.

Front fan.                                          Rear fan (found in a old Dell pc, connector modified for right pin order).

Here are some performance results after one and half hour of mining with the quiet fans -setup.

There is some difference in the temperature when comparing the two hash boards.

It is most likely because I used to different kind of thermal pastes in different boards and there is some performance difference.

So far I'm pretty happy with this miner and I've been wanting to do this kind of an upgrade for the good old S1 for a long time!  Smiley

If you got any questions, feel free to drop them in this thread.
I will try to give my best answer.

April 07, 2017 update
I did some assembling today though I'm still waiting for the BB board (for the controller) to arrive.
I used some thermal paste I had left and installed heat sinks and frame parts.

Applying thermal paste.

Both hash boards, two cooling fans (in a push-pull configuration) and frame parts installed.

When installing a heat sink to the hash board, screws must be very carefully and evenly cross tightened.

You don't want it to go "taco".

April 10, 2017 update part 1
If you have a empty micro SD card you want to do following things
after which you have a working Hotmine firmware:

1.
Download ’Tools and Instructions to Image SD card’ and follow the instructions.

Download link mirror #1 (Bitmain.com):
https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=007201604120945219855QObfk20066C

Download link mirror #2 (Mega.nz cloud):
https://mega.nz/#!4lVkUYDT!3D_hQKJC6ScoZtqK2NX8uttP3TIVV1lavIcWFUPC1cY

2. Unzip the X5 firmware tar.gz archive and copy files to the BtmBoot section of the SD card.
X5 firmware (March 23, 2017): https://mega.nz/#!xtVmwJgS!RBtNcPpBahclSH0joGfiXGcXbIBSvbUwvrqrc41nR-w

3. Delete the old .dtb file and your BtmBoot section with files in there should then look like in this screenshot:

Screenshot.
(click to open a bigger picture)

4. Edit the uEnv.txt file with code shown highlighted in the previous screenshot image.
Code:
fdtfile=/dtbs/am335x-boneblack.dtb

5.
Put the micro SD card to the BB board and you are good to go.

So, this is Hotmine X5 upgrade kit for Antminer S5,
which consists of two hash boards and one controller board.

Manufacturer is Hotmine, and their headquarters is located in Kiev, Ukraine.

Hotmine:
http://hotmine.io/

Products page:
http://hotmine.io/#products

It uses a 16nm node process ASIC chip manufactured by Bitfury.
The chip model is more specifically Bitfury BF16BTC8162.
Also known as Bitfury BF8162C16 (maybe different revision or marketing name ?).

Bitfury:
http://bitfury.com/

You can also use Antminer S1 or S3 parts (frame, heat sinks, fan) with this,
but you need to buy Beaglebone Black / Antminer BB board separately.

Beaglebone Black / Antminer BB board is needed for the controller board.

And you also need some additional screws and mechanical support parts for the controller board.
I will come up with some kind of solution for this.

I have Antminer S1 in my shelf, so I bought the BB board separately from forum user Mammon.

Technical specifications:
Code:
Hotmine X5 upgrade kit for Antminer S5

Hash rate: 3.3-4.2 Th/s
Power consumption: 490 W
Power efficiency: 0.1-0.13 J / Gh/s
DC voltage input: 12V
ASIC chip type: Bitfury BF16BTC8162
ASIC chip quantity per unit (kit): 48 chips
Number of hash boards: 2 hash boards

Delivery for this upgrade kit from Ukraine to here Finland was pretty quick via Ukrposhta.

I paid 0.45 BTC including shipping
(this was in April 6, 2017).

Here are some pictures of the X5 upgrade kit parts and my Antminer S1 parts.

You can click these pictures invidually to show a high resolution version of the picture located in a Imgur.com picture album.

Are you supporting Bitcoin Core or Bitcoin Unlimited?
3073  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: April 04, 2017, 08:26:57 PM
Bitshopper.de is working just fine for me.

Great work, looking good!
3074  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP - My first Antminer S9 is reaching 81F ?????? on: April 03, 2017, 07:23:51 PM
The autotune frequency setting is chip quality dependant and for cooling there is an automatic fan control.

105 C is the high limit, below that and you're fine.
3075  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Themaltake Toughpower 1200W Gold burnup after 30 hours powering Avalon A6 on: April 03, 2017, 06:54:59 PM
Canaan PSU = ??

Yes. Bitmain APW3 and APW5 power supplies are good to use with the A6 as well.
3076  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Themaltake Toughpower 1200W Gold burnup after 30 hours powering Avalon A6 on: April 03, 2017, 06:29:01 PM
HP DPS-1200 server PSU with breakout board would be a better option than a BFL power supply.
HP's are available via sidehack (USA) or bitshopper.de (EU).
3077  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP - My first Antminer S9 is reaching 81F ?????? on: April 03, 2017, 05:06:55 PM
Those are ok values and the unit is CELSIUS, NOT FAHRENHEIT.  81 Fahrenheit would be pretty cold temperature value for a miner, don't you think?  Wink
3078  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New mining pool ConnectBTC.com Launches with 106% PPS on: April 03, 2017, 10:39:53 AM
You act like there is a zero fee and 106% PPS, but what about sharing the transaction fees to miners?
106% percent is sharing the fees without miners taking the risk of fee fluctuation.
Pools should reduce risk for miners - not roll it back to them
The fee fluctuation is mostly highly positive, so I would say there is no or close to no risk for miners.
3079  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S9 Hash Card Out Of Warranty Repair From UK on: April 03, 2017, 10:37:34 AM
BitmainWarranty also has a location in Iceland. You could ask them if that could work out.
