781  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Jerwin Ancajas vs Takuma Inoue - Nov 15 on: October 24, 2023, 02:07:45 PM
Just saw a video about this fight pop up on my Facebook feed, so I thought I'd check our thread here. Let's give it a little bump so it doesn't get lost. This fight is just around the corner, less than a month away, if the date hasn't changed.

Anyone got any new scoop on this fight? Please share the info if you've got it.

So far there is no scoop yet, so this fight is still on schedule unless we hear that it's going to be re-scheduled or worst being cancelled. And with that, the date is still November 15 an yeah, the fight date is getting closer and for fans of Jerwin, this is really a good chance to get another belt.

And I agree, it seems that the Japanese is talking over as far as the number of champions in boxing in the Asian region.

There were years that the Filipino has Manny, Nonito, Donnie Nietes, but they all retired or in case of Nonito, we don't know if he is going to still continue to fight or just hang up his gloves too. And so they need to breed good boxers so that the country will have a lot of champions.

Let's see if Ancajas once again will get the belt and at least have a Filipino with a championship belt before the end of the year.

Ever since I followed boxing during my high school days I thought it was really the Japanese that were dominating the Asian scenes. Thailand is next and then the Philippines at third. If only the Philippine government and business sponsors focused on the sport that they are really world class then it can easily surpass Thailand and rival the Japanese.

But there were times that the Filipino has taken the stage from the Japanese, when at one time they have Pacquiao, Donaire, Hawaiian Punch Villoria or even Nietes and Penalosa. And you won't hear like Japan vs Mexico. It was all Filipinos vs Mexico in the lower weight class and see what nation is the best.

There are 17 divisions in men's boxing and 4 major belts. The Ring Magazine only awards its belts to the very best in a division but if we count it as well that would make it 85 belts. At the moment Japan owns 11 belts compared to the Philippines 2 which comes from Marlon Tapales who's expected to lose it all this year to Inoue.

Meanwhile, Ancajas' main sparmate is unified champion Marlon Tapales which is not bad at all. Although Takuma is much faster than Tapales.

It's obvious that when the best Filipino boxers retire, it's time for other nation to steal the limelight for them. So far, it's the Japanese again in the lower division. So hopefully, Filipino can regain their glory and restore their pride as one of the best country that produces world champion.

I am not too sure if those five legends became champions at the same time, but it could be. But those were the golden days of Philippine boxing. But even at that time, I think we were only like 50/50 or it could be that the Japanese still had more belts at that time. The arrogant Kameda family who always travel to the Philippines to train, Ioka who fought Nietes twice, Hasegawa who lost his unification bout with Montiel who then lost to Donaire, Nishioka the lineal champion of 122 who lost to Donaire, the hard-hitting Uchiyama, long-time champion Yamanaka who lost to roided and then overweighted Luis Nery and many more. It's just that we seldom saw Japanese events live before unlike now there are a lot of online streamers. Unlike the Philippines, Japan is the 3rd biggest economy in the world which is why they can host their own fights on their own traditional days, the times, and even cover all their marketing and promotions in Japanese words making it odd for foreigners to watch and understand.

Now we'll see if the Philippines can revive its former golden age. There are only 2 belts and it is expected to lose to Japan. There are a lot of prospects but unless they can get proper sponsorships and support they will always travel to opponents' backyards and at times exploited like being offered a fight on late notice and losing hometown bias decisions.
782  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cockfighting? on: October 24, 2023, 01:14:03 PM
Here in our country, cockfighting is very popular , it was owned and operates by a most influencing man in gambling. The investors and bettors are came from high class of family and some government officials are involve. the primary purposes of cockfighting is for entertainment and leisure, It can be addictive because of the culture and festivity, to the point that bettors are willing to risk something they value in hope of getting something of even greater value.
Cockfighting is no longer popular. You say that cock fighting is very popular in your country, this cock fight was first held in European countries and reached the peak of popularity at one time but most of the people could not accept this sport due to its deadly brutality. This is why this cock fight has been officially banned. Now this cock fight is not seen as before but in some parts of Asian continent this cock fight is sometimes seen in alleys. But I don't think government officials are involved there.
That true because cockfighting was first introduced by the Romans and then spread to Europe and Greece so that over time it spread widely to Asia but currently it is still very popular only in Asian countries especially Southeast Asia.
During that time cockfighting was used as art and culture as well as worship ceremony.
Most cockfights were more popular among nobles.

Over time cockfighting has become a sport but in several European countries the point of view about cockfighting has changed and made cockfighting a less ethical act.
Even though it is seen as unethical in some countries and has banned it cockfighting is cultural heritage that should be protected even if only for a certain time.
Modern era developments have also made European countries forget about it and prioritize prestigious events for the sports they love.

Now in Europe you probably can't find cockfighting and most people don't know about this sport and that why it's no longer very popular there.

The Romans were not the ones who started cockfighting, they just adopted it from the Greeks who took it from the Asians probably from the Persians or from the people of the steppes which were pushed forward into Europe by the other more powerful tribes in Eastern Asia. And I doubt the Romans really spread it into Europe well, it remained unpopular and even died out. Otherwise, the Spanish who were a long-time Roman province, and Magellan's chronicler who himself is an Italian should not be surprised by the Philippine modern ways of cockfighting.

Nonetheless, it should be banned worldwide. @2Pizza410000BTC, a lot of government officials are into cockfighting in the Philippines. Cockpit arenas starting from small municipalities to big cities are duly registered.
783  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do your parents know about your gambling habit ? on: October 24, 2023, 12:53:06 PM
I basically believes that the age of the person involved in the gambling will matters the most. You do not expect a grown man who is able to manage his own family hiding his gambling habits from his parent, he is matured enough and knows what is right and wrong, perhaps we can't say gambling is a crime so why hide it from them.
But for the younger kids who pertakes in gambling of course there is every need to defend their gambling habits from there parents because they know it is illegal for there age.

Underage kids who are into betting already are the ones trying as much as possible to hide it from their parents. Because it is irresponsible already for someone to gamble but is actually financially dependent on their parents. I also tried this before but only because I saved my allowance so I have small amounts to spare for gambling. However, it was still a mistake since I was then underage and I am still dependent on my parents.

Another possible situation where people need to hide their gambling activities is those people who have no regular earnings or very small earnings but are into gambling. Because it'll shame them the moment their husbands or wives, parents, or any family members discover it.
784  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Not keeping records makes me a bad gambler? on: October 24, 2023, 12:33:18 PM
I don't think you can be called a bad gambler if you don't record your losses and wins here.
If it's just entertainment for you, you don't need to record it. I also don't record my gambling losses and wins because for me I don't need to record them because I'm not good at gambling either and I can only see the money I lose growing. If you enjoy it and control yourself when it comes to gambling, I don't think there is a problem. I think that's only for serious gamblers and professionals who keep track of their winnings and losses so they know if what they've been doing lately is good.

It really depends on the type of gambler and both are acceptable because what matters is how we gamble responsibly which means knowing our limits.

I do not have a track of my settings as well but I would love to do it if I have enough time. Maybe I will do it yearly. I am mostly into NBA bets so I also have plans to record my bets per NBA season. Losing is no big deal since I don't have huge bets but it would be cool to see if I am indeed winning. Making a record as well will make our bets and analysis more serious since there is a challenge to have a good track record. But as you said, this is just optional and should only be done if we have a lot of vacant hours.
785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 24, 2023, 12:12:05 PM
Just one more sleep until NBA basketball kicks off. I think with the Damian Lillard trade the Bucks became the team to beat in the East and I think the pickup of Bradley Beal makes the Suns the team to beat in the West. I think the Warriors will have another good year along with the Celtics and Nuggets, but I think the Bucks take home the crown this year.

It's going to be a good NBA season. We've seen the Bucks getting Dame, and they are already a powerful team in the East already. But with a Lillard acquisition they again put themselves on the top of the favorites. But they still have the Sixers with the reigning MVP to contend, although the dram surrounding James Harden might have a impact on them. Celtics too, get one of the best defensive guards on Jrue Holiday from the Bucks and with Tatum and Brown hitting their prime years. they are another team to watch out. Although I will say that once weakness could be their coach, but we will see.

In the West, I will go with the Suns and the Nuggets as well. Book + KD + Beal, they have their own version now of big 3. But then again, the Nuggets as reigning champion still has the momentum from last year as their core is still intact.

It is less than 24 hours before the start of the games. We're expecting another good season. We also have good opening games. I already have bets on Denver Nuggets -5.5 and Phoenix Suns ML.

For me, it is a toss-up between the Bucks and the Celtics in the East. But in the West, I slightly favor the defending champs, the Nuggets. Though it lost some good role players in the summer, I still pick the Denver Nuggets since the core remains the same and it is already proven while the Suns, Bucks, and Celtics have yet to show us something that they are indeed better teams than the previous season.
786  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: October 23, 2023, 02:04:42 PM
Currently I'm watching Entity vs Tundra and I'm afraid Entity might snatch this with 2-0 and produce a big surprise that personally I didn't anticipate to happen , especially with Topson playing for Tundra as Midlaner. Right now score is 1-0 with map 2 being well underway and Entity looks favorite in 2nd map as well.
I've watched the first game and they're able to a comeback. And you're right again with that 2-0, Entity just won against the former TI champs Tundra Esports with that ending. Right now the match of Talon Esports and BetBoom is happening, we still have a long series to wait. While Entity is going to face Virtus.Pro, hmmmmm. They've won against TUndra so VP could be easier for them.

I stayed awake until morning for this series. But what a series for Entity versus Tundra, it was worth watching. Tundra was supposed to win against Entity. That solid comeback in game 1 set Entity's confidence to win game 2 as well. I don't know what Sneyking meant during the interview but it feels like Topson is not a fit to his team.

And then I had to wake up in order to watch Entity against Virtus Pro. I also thought Entity would win but VP has its own ways and never gave up a single map. Entity has a good battle plan but they couldn't keep up Kiritych's farming.

We need to wait 4 days again for the next games. Gaimin Gladiators should be able to stop the nouns. BetBoom against Virtus.pro will be another tough match but I am favoring the former to win.
787  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Tapales for Unified Super Bantamweight Title - December 26 on: October 23, 2023, 01:41:06 PM
So currently Marlon Tapales is training hard in the US. He is sparring with former champion Mark Magsayo. Maybe it is beneficial to test his strength and toughness since Magsayo is big and is a hard puncher. But other than that, Magsayo is not the ideal sparring partner for Tapales. Tapales needs to spar someone who is like or can replicate Inoue who is small but quick, explosive, and has a high IQ.

Tapales might relocate his next stage of training to Baguio, Philippines. It is a high-altitude location and has nearly the same weather as Japan so it should be good. Former world title challenger Vincent Astrolabio and undefeated prospect Carl Jammes Martin already said they are willing to help Tapales through sparring.
788  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: October 23, 2023, 01:21:20 PM
And now the father of Tyson Fury, wanted to go after Mike Tyson.

Quote
"[I'd like to fight] Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson, I’m going to the top of the tree. And he’s a traitor, and I’m going to tell him so in Saudi next week. Next week, he’ll be told," John Fury told Fight Hub TV.

https://www.boxingscene.com/amp/john-fury-plans-confront-traitor-mike-tyson-during-fury-ngannou-fight-week--178598

That is a very bad idea, even at Mike Tyson's age, he is still very scary as hell. And perhaps this is just to hype the fight as we all know that John Fury wanted to get into the limelight as well when his son/s have fight.

And I guess there's nothing personal on Mike's side, maybe he just wanted to train Francis Ngannou, who he might see himself when he was starting his boxing career. Power in both hands but very raw.

John Fury called Iron Mike a traitor because they used to have good relationships. Tyson Fury is also named after John's idol Iron Mike. But this is nothing personal though and Iron Mike is probably invited and paid well by Ngannou's team so why not? Or it could be that the promoters or organizers hired Iron Mike to make an issue out of it which is somewhat corny. Or who knows this is set up by both teams to make the public buy their upcoming PPV.

John always tries to get attention as always although I guess he was one of the reasons why the Tommy Furry-KSI and Logan vs Dillon event became successful to the casual fans. If the ultra-conservative Saudis allow John to make extra stunts like smashing and throwing the tables and chairs in their conference and weigh-in then I guess it will once again draw popularity to the public.

And just like any other father-fighter relationships in this sports, it more of the father who wanted to get more attention isn't it? Teo Lopez Sr, Angel Garcia (Danny's father), some that comes to my mind. So I'm not surprised by John Fury as he has this kind of attitude and antics to the media. Like you said, in the Tommy Fury-KSI fight, there's even a glass window barrier between the two, but what did John Fury do? Smash it and even to the point of head butting to try and break the glass.

So let's see what his going to do when he met Mike Tyson personally in Riyadh, it could be funny though if we see Tyson smacking him in front of the media. But I don't think he can come near Mike Tyson though. Mike can take care of himself that's for sure.

But this statement could really be good to hype the fight even more specially that they have involved Mike Tyson's name here.

And it feels good when Danny lost to Thurman and Teofimo humiliated by Kambosos. I would also be glad if Ngannou all of a sudden lands something big that won't allow Big Belly to stand up. Cheesy

John is all talk, Iron Mike can still knock him out. They should face each other in the main undercard to make this event more popular. But John Fury's professional record isn't good to hear though, 8-4-1 KOs. Lost almost half of his fights, suffered knockout outs in half of his fights, and has only one knockout in his wins. So John's punch can hardly crack an egg. Cheesy

The last time I checked or remember about Israel and the possesion of mass destruction devices, is that they formaly have said they have some of those arsenals, but on the other hand, it has never been confirmed by third parties they have those devices.

Though, I would not be surprised if they actually have some of them, delivered by the United States and only under the command of use of USA.
Even if USA is their most important ally on this planet, it would be quite irresponsible of them to give those weapons to direct Israeli command, instead some USA commander in the middle east.
The bolded part is what scares me the most because without any confirmation from outside parties that would mean that they should be classified as a rogue nation. If you read the link that was provided by JoeyP, it could help you formulate that US is not a fan of giving nukes to Israel plus if you've known about the Cuban Missile Crisis, I think that you would know that US wouldn't put nukes that's close to Russia or anywhere in the Middle East so even if the US was sneaky about the nuclear arsenal delivery, Russian intelligence will definitely get a wind of that delivery and would react to it as if it's another Cold War for them.

It is not really surprising that Israel developed its own nukes because even at the very beginning the Jews already had a lot of scientists. I don't know about their mentality in the past but it is surprising to me why they had a lot of scientists and many of them were instrumental in the development of the world's most dangerous and destructive weapon. Einstein, Meitner, and even Oppenheimer himself (the lead scientist who discovered the atomic bomb) were Jews. I read a lot about history and wars and there's a high probability that Hitler would've developed the atomic first if he had not persecuted the Jews.
791  Economy / Economics / Re: how businesses swindle the minimum wage employee on: October 23, 2023, 12:02:10 PM
You have a good point OP. But it won't be easy in all parts of the world, especially in this time of crisis where employment is not even easy to find in many parts of the world. In my country, private companies are even starting to put into contract the minimum number of years the employee should work otherwise there will be penalties.

It's one of the reasons why I left my first job because I got a promotion but I need to sign a 5-year minimum service where I cannot dictate the location. There were also job offers that I declined even if some of them were higher because I prefer to work on my own time and place.

It is funny some people always criticize the West yet they also hope to live in the West and get a job in order to have a better life. it's not perfect but way better than most countries.
792  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is a 20% Annual Return good ? on: October 23, 2023, 11:41:46 AM
Generally speaking, 20% is already a good return on investment, especially since we are still in a bear season. But there are more follow-up questions that will make or break it.

1. Is the 20% annual return material to you?
2. How much capital will you risk to make that 20% gain turn into something material and worth the effort?
3. How many trades are needed to reach that 20% annual return?

Because we need to make sure everything is worth our time and effort. Trading can be stressful too.

Another thing to consider is that we are already approaching bitcoin's halving where it is anticipated that a big bull run will happen in the next 2 years. If you check on bitcoin's volatility even at this stage, 20% is not that big. All bitcoin halvings break their previous ATHs the following year. This means bitcoin is expected to reach $69k again or more most likely by 2025. And $69k is more than 200% of the current price.

So if you have ample of time daily to do regular trades and the capital then you can proceed. But if you are a busy person with lots of stuff to do in life then it is better to do a regular DCA or daily cost averaging on bitcoin and maybe on some altcoins.
793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 23, 2023, 11:13:56 AM
A few days of rest before the official start of the NBA regular season. So it seems like almost all of the teams are ready except for those rebuilding teams and the unstable Philadelphia 76ers who still have Harden but made a personal excuse to leave its training camp.

The start of the season always excites me as teams will try their best to start strong. It enables them to observe if they need some trades before the deadline and necessary adjustments.

As we've seen, Victor Wembanyama is NBA-ready and so is Chet Holmgren although the latter seems to have better teammates so the stats might favor the former. But it will be very interesting to see these 2 giant prospects.

Finally, Chet Holmgren gets a chance to shine since he's back to full health. His rookie season was a bummer due to injuries, but now he's ready to roll. With Wemby also have his debut, they're both bigs, so it'll be interesting to see if Chet can create his own name. They faced off in the preseason, and we got a taste of who's got the edge, but let's wait for the regular season. Chet might surprise us and outdo Wemby in the stats department.

I'm super excited about the new season. We missed the NBA after a boring NBA Finals, so here's hoping for a much better one this time – a series that goes all the way to Game 7, not a quick 4-1 or 4-0 sweep.

I believe they are 50/50 playing against each other. I think Chet is more mature and a little stronger but he is more prone to injury. And Wemby is still 19 compared to Chet who's already 21 so the kid's body is still changing.

Here is their latest duel during the preseason where they lead each other's team score. I really hope both of them stay healthy in their career. I won't be surprised if Chet leads the stats even if Shai is the OKC's main man. Wemby just has the advantage since all eyes in San Antonio are on him.

UFC 294 used to be a great event with near 50/50 match-ups until replacements happened in the main and co-main event. Unexpected injuries ruined the exciting match-ups where Volk and Usman came in as substitutes for Olivera and Costa. There's no way someone can be at his best in a week of training. It is not even enough for them to have the usual safe way of losing weight which should happen gradually.

Nonetheless, Ankalaev-Walker is a great match-up but I thought I could just watch it in a replay so I just canceled my alarm and had a good sleep. It turned out disappointing as the fight was called off in the very first round. Not blaming the doctor though as he was there for a reason and Walker answered he was in the desert when asked which country he was fighting.

The bear market continues. I expect another fall in the near future 1-5 weeks. At that moment I will buy coins

then I will also take this opportunity to buy BNB, because I will not miss this opportunity to be able to buy BNB at a cheap price, moreover I believe that a bullrun will happen soon, because the Bitcoin halving will occur in 2024, so this is my opportunity to be able to buy BNB at a cheap price before the price increased was very high after the bullrun occurred.

Meanwhile, I stopped accumulating BNB since the issue with FTX and its downfall. There are a lot of ongoing issues with Binance as well but I am optimistic that they can weather the storm. So it is indeed cheap at $212. But I want to make a safe bet since there are also other coins that are cheap right now. I am banking more on Ethereum, Doge, and of course, bitcoin which is 60% to 70% of my current portfolio.

Times running fast, we are already in the last quarter of the year. Soon it will be 2024 and the bitcoin halving is within grasp. I am really hoping that a big bull run happens just like the previous years.
799  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Stevenson vs De Los Santos - Nov 16 on: October 21, 2023, 06:31:16 AM
I might be seeing another Crawford vs Spence fight. Shakur likes to play like Crawford, while for me De los Santos fights like Spence. So it's a copy fight and we all know how it ended. De los Santos is a good boxer with power, but Shakur will figure it out how to beat him, and uses his boxing IQ. So maybe it's going to be +7.5 rounds, with Shakur winning by KO/TKO. But still though, this is a great fight and we will see Shakurs skills and technique.

This is a different kind of fight – a champion versus a non-champion. That bout between Spence and Crawford was an undisputed fight, while in this case, Shakur isn't facing a world champion. So, I'm not setting my expectations too high for this one. It seems like it could be more of a tune-up fight for Shakur.

Maybe a little similar in the way that De Los Santos has to be the aggressor here and try hard to land his big shots on Shakur. Shakur is the one to use his footwork to stay away from engaging and use his skills to hit and not get hit.

But in terms of experience, Shakur might be fighting only the 2nd time in this division but the experience difference is just too wide. Shakur is a silver medalist in the Olympics, a 2 division champion, a 1-time lineal champ, and a unified champion. While he is a regular 135 fighter, this is the first time De Los Santos is fighting a 12-round event let alone his first championship fight.

So I have the feeling that De Los Santos gets tired in the middle of the fight and that is when Shakur tries to stop him.

This is certainly sad news. This announcement was also mentioned in Teddy Atlas' podcast and he expressed the blame on the promoters. It was very much similar to what I have said about much of these boxing events being similar to scam ICOs where the promoters hype the ICO, collect the money then dump on their own customers hehehehe.

These ICO scammers do not add anything to the cryptospace and similar to some of these events, they do not add anything to the sport of boxing.

Showtime is the network trying to convince us that Tank Davis is a champion in many divisions because of all these BS interim belts he won from the corrupt WBA. In fact, many PBC on Showtime fights had some sort of WBA title at stake. They legitimized these scammy organizations and are paying the price for it. Haymon will probably manage to get a deal with another network only to leave them holding the bag for these overpaid phony champions.

Good point right there. I am sad that Showtime left because together with HBO they made legendary fights that will never be forgotten. But part of me is happy because I do not like PBC. Since Showtime made an exclusive deal with PBC, the network sucked already. PBC most of the time is all about cherry-picking and nonsense PPVs. The most annoying memory I had was the times Danny Garcia headlined garbage fights before having the balls to fight with the other big names. And then at present, it is Tank Davis fighting tomato cans. One thing is clear though, Showtime and PBC have a solid casual community and fanbase.

I heard PBC is currently negotiating with Amazon Prime. There's also the chance that DAZN will partner with PBC.

Yes, that's what I heard, DAZN and PBC might partnered after the sad news that Showtime is exiting the boxing business. Or maybe there is another entity that will enter the picture so who knows.

And if the DAZN + PBC partnership materialized, then boxing will obviously continue and it could be a great deal for us boxing fans. Prices though might still continue to go up. But at least there will be someone to broadcast the fight for us. So it's up to the fans if they are still willing to pay for a great fight to see.

I am not sure how big Amazon Prime's reach and its ability to cater to PPVs but maybe they should force PBC to limit its PPVs, especially the unnecessary ones.

I am actually good with PBC being unable to reach a network deal so they can file a bankruptcy. Its fighters can then sign to other promoters and there will be less cherry-picking for them.

If DAZN accepts PBC, I hope Eddie Hearn has some access as well so it will be easier to make fights in between promotions. Maybe Tank will finally be forced to face Haney or Prograis.

And if PBC heads to DAZN joining Matchroom and Golden Boy, ESPN will be the only remaining network competitor in the US.
