881  Economy / Economics / Re: Lives vs Economy -- sad truth on: June 22, 2020, 02:41:57 PM
I think some countries who are facing an extreme number of cases where hospitals and frontliners cannot prioritize every one, have to choose who will treat first. But I don't think it's about who will be helpful in the economy, they are doing it due to the lack of manpower, facilities, medicines, and some PPEs, they are left with no choice but to treat those who are more capable of surviving.

I believe that as much as they can, hospitals and medical teams are trying to treat everyone with COVID. They don't put criteria to who deserves to live or not. The government as well are providing them the equipment they will need but it's not enough to treat everyone since cases keep on increasing every day. We can't blame them since they are already sacrificing a lot. Even older people can still survive the virus, it just depends on how critically ill they are, so we cannot say that it's all about the age.

882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does this Pandemic intensifies the usage of Bitcoin? on: June 22, 2020, 11:24:47 AM
Honestly speaking, when we say adopting cashless transactions, it's more likely for the public to recognize cards or other digital payment methods compared to bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. It's already hard for others to adapt to simple digital transaction method, what more with bitcoin.

Based on what I noticed here in my country during this pandemic, online transactions are starting to get more popular but it's only limited to those who have access to it. Most of the time, people are still dependent on paper money even though there's a threat of the virus since it's most convenient to use when buying things physically. If there is an increase in bitcoin usage, I think it's not that noticeable compared to other cashless payment methods since it requires further research and exploration before you can understand how it works.

883  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Earning From Digital Ads Will Be Taxed (e.g., Signature Campaign) on: June 22, 2020, 09:31:10 AM

884  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling addict steals $6 million of client funds to fund his gambling addiction on: June 22, 2020, 07:59:37 AM
Glad that he realized what he has done before doing anything worse than that. He probably wants to stop his addiction but like what other addicts experience, it's difficult for them to stop it that's why he decided to confess his wrongdoings so when he gets sentenced, he can't gambling for that time. That's the last thing he can do, it's to correct what is wrong.

I have heard a lot of stories where addicts (not only in gambling) will steal money just to satisfy his addiction. I think that's one of the worst things that addiction can do to people. But unfortunately, not all gambling addicts are like the ones you have mentioned, who will willingly try to stop his addiction towards gambling. Most often times, addicts are reluctant to admit that they are addicted to something, but will still continue what they are doing.
885  Economy / Economics / Re: world war 3 is coming ...do to coronavirus / economy ... on: June 22, 2020, 07:37:30 AM
Conflicts and disputes between two or more countries do not mean world war 3 is about to come because it ain't easy to start a war. We often hear news about territorial conflict but we don't hear urges of starting a war. Famine usually happens when a country is struggling with the economy itself that's why they are having scarcity of foods. One example of that is Yemen, and I don't think they are capable of fighting against other countries when they are already struggling within their country. Also in my country, sellers can't increase prices since there is a pandemic and opportunists should not take advantage of it. In fact, some farmers are just throwing or giving away their vegetables because of too many supplies and they are having a hard time shipping them in urban places because of the pandemic.

The thing is, we might be facing a lot of problems now but for sure governments know that starting a war won't solve anything at all, and it will just make things worst.
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Which trading platforms do you use? on: June 21, 2020, 12:30:33 PM
You can try Binance exchange platform. I have been trading since 2017.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good trading platform? I am looking for something that offers useful tools and indicators but is not expensive. Currently, I am using a bunch of different sites, because I don't get everything on just one. Any info would be appreciated.
I would also recommend using the Binance exchange if you want to have smooth trading experience. It also seems that all replies here are recommending Binance Exchange and no doubt that it will become the top exchange platform. Aside from the good thing with this exchange, it also has a lot of features that will benefit the users. It has different indicators that are free to use and you can also download their mobile app in the play store and app store. When I started trading, Binance is the first exchange that I ever used and until now I'm using it. Likely, this exchange will remain on the top exchange in even the next few years.

Binance, Indodax, Bitmex are exchanges that I often use now. in my opinion the exchange is very good to use for scalping traders or for loans because the exchange every day produces such a large volume and it is very good for trading.Avoid new exchanges that don't yet have trust because our assets can be a problem
I agree with you @kkaroul4, it's better to avoid the untrusted or new exchange and always stick with a good and reputable exchange platform. And not all new exchanges are safe to use because some of them will use fake volumes to attract users to use their platforms.
887  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There Are Now More Than 8,000 Bitcoin ATM's Worldwide on: June 21, 2020, 11:12:13 AM
Not everyone will even use Bitcoin ATM even though they are bitcoin holders. And among those 8,000 ATMs available, I think there are only 3 or 4 ATMs available in my country and personally, I have not seen one. So I don't think it's enough to attract the public in my country. That's why it's still far to consider getting mass adoption with it because most machines were installed in a single country.

Also, the contribution of bitcoin ATMs in mass adaption is not that huge because even some crypto holders won't even use it. The machine will just attract passers-by if they got curious about that, but it does not necessarily mean they will adopt crypto. But it's still good that the number of ATMs is increasing even though some holders do not prefer it due to higher fees.
888  Local / Altcoins (Pilipinas) / Re: XRP Price to $14 - Any thoughts? on: June 21, 2020, 06:53:58 AM

XRP reached more than 3$ mate last 2018 at makikita mo yan mismo sa chart here  https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/xrp/

Same thought here, sobrang imposible pa rin talaga aangat yang Ripple (xrp) up to 14$ and sang ayon ako na kaya nitong maabot yung 1$ price kung magkakaroon man ng bull market.
889  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Vietnam bursts an illegal casino who used to handle bets worth $3 billions on: June 21, 2020, 06:24:12 AM
Pretty incredible that a casino of that size was able to operate under the radar for so long.

Even if he had a house of judge 1%, that means the guy successfully generated $30 million in profit without even raising a suspicion? The place more likely had a crazy high house edge too, given that it was already operating illegally, so something like 3% ($90m profit) is more likely (deducting operating costs).

Not really much of a difference between a licensed an unlicensed platform so long as they're using fair equipment and not rigging the games. But the government's gotta get its share of the revenue or its curtains!
Its really incredible that it did really become so big without being bust up for a long time which we can presume out that there are people whom do protect such illegal casino.
They might be hiding from taxes but they do pay up the ones who do handle out to maintain up their operation without getting too much attention from the outside or in governments vicinity.
Its not really something new because illegal things do work on that way thats why they havent been caught for too long but this one had been burst up but there are still lots of them
havent been detected or found up yet.
Connections from higher authorities are common in running illegal businesses in a country that's why they continue operating without getting busted. Since it's illegal in Vietnam and maybe even authorities want to gamble but since they can't, perhaps there is also a possibility that government authorities themselves are gambling there. We all know how can some of the higher officials work dirty for the sake of money.

If such huge earning casino can run in Vietnam for that long without getting caught, I bet there are also other casinos running aside from that. Also, it's not just about running away from taxes since others have already mentioned that it's illegal in Vietnam that's why they can't even get a license even if they want to.
890  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 20-Year-Old Robinhood Customer Dies By Suicide After Seeing A $730,000 Negative on: June 20, 2020, 02:40:07 PM
We don't know what is the story behind how he got that huge amount of money in that age, but one thing for sure is, killing yourself is not a way to escape reality. But I also understand that it shocked him seeing such loss and that he cannot control his emotions. We also don't know if he's facing other problems aside from this loss that's why we can't blame him if he aggressively invests all that money, but it's a lesson for us especially for those who are still learning and exploring about trading that it requires knowledge not only about on how to trade, as well as on how to deal with unexpected losses.

If you are still new, or even trading for quite some time now but can't handle such situations, always be mindful of the possibilities you might encounter because trading involves risk. I still feel bad for this young boy and his family.

891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying food or groceries with Bitcoin on: June 20, 2020, 01:52:58 PM
For me, accepting Bitcoin in the market is always possible but not for everyone. Merchants can accept bitcoin as payment if they are willing to accept it, and that they trust bitcoin. I just think that adopting bitcoin payment is not for everyone, and it's not about the popularity or demand because sellers who do not have any idea about it won't find it effective since they can still earn with regular payment methods. But for those who know and trust bitcoin, they can accept bitcoin willingly.

We don't have to wait for years to see if people would be open to it as a payment method because it depends on the seller. It may be hard to find shops that are open to bitcoin but in my country, I have heard that some shops actually accept crypto payments before, I just don't know if they still do. But the point is if the shop owners are fond of bitcoin and crypto, they can accept it. It's just rare to find that kind of shops these days but for sure there are.
892  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: [MEGATHREAD] Pilipinas Coronavirus/COVID-19 Thread on: June 20, 2020, 09:30:20 AM

From GMA news:

Dexamethasone hailed as first life-saving drug vs. COVID-19, reduces deaths by a third among severe cases

Source: https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/world/742914/steroid-dexamethasone-reduces-deaths-among-patients-with-severe-covid-19-trial-shows/story/?fbclid=IwAR211ExTI_xzO2YdHI2wcynNcghg8eL09tBypnasxtxyRkGCoomItI8_Aoo

Tsaka we should be careful parin sa pag bili at pag gamit ng mga gamot lalo na kung walang prescription ng doctor. Eto nga yung nirelease na statement ng FDA about sa pag gamit or pagbili nito sa mga hindi approved ng FDA kaya dapat maging maingat parin.

                          Photo not mine

893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is More Popular Than Traditional Banks on: June 19, 2020, 04:27:06 PM
It's a positive statistic for cryptocurrency but I wonder how they picked their respondents to participate in that survey. I also don't think that almost 5,000 participants are already enough to assume that bitcoin is already more popular than traditional banks. Perhaps in a certain group or age of people, but not totally for everyone. It's pretty obvious that the younger generation will appreciate bitcoin and cryptocurrency than the older generation because they are more aware of digital advancements. There's no point in arguing with that since they are more capable of adapting with technology.

But I think it would be better to widen the number of participants if they want to represent 17 countries. Even in academic research that percentage compared to the population of those countries are not enough to make an accurate conclusion.
894  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Las Vegas Casinos are open - end of the Pandemic era. on: June 19, 2020, 02:00:22 PM
From my point of view, maybe the reasons why Las Vegas Casinos have started to open, so they could save their business or to help their workers to have a source of income again. But it is still inappropriate for Las Vegas Casinos to reopen because it could cause more trouble if more people will get infected by the virus.
That really is the main reason why they are reopening the casinos again. To recover their economy, give jobs to jobless employees again and probably save their business.

U.S. is right now the epicenter of the pandemic so reopening casinos in times like this is a bit risky IMO. This can lead to more cases and only one infected person can ruin the business as a whole as it can lead to another closure of the casino. Either way, this move by them is a bit risky and gamblers have a choice to risk their lives by going there or not. They can gamble online still if they want without going outside and risking their lives.
Just one wrong decision from the government, it can affect hundreds or thousands of lives of their people. However, it's difficult to make a decision because workers need a job and businesses need revenue, or else, employers need to layoff some of their employees to lessen their losses and expenses.

But on the other hand, it will put risk to thousands of people who will choose to gamble outside. So maybe it's also the responsibility of the gamblers whether to take a risk and endanger their lives or just go with online gambling. It's not only the government who will need to take action about this pandemic, but we also need to be responsible for our actions.
895  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CORONAVIRUS IMPACT ON SPORTS GAMBLING on: June 19, 2020, 12:23:50 PM
After a few months of sports matches affected by the corona virus, so can not play sports betting. But now it's slow several sports matches
have begun, even some psychic casinos have been reopened. Although sports matches are now goes differently to when the corona virus
hasn't spread throughout the world. Now implementing several health protocols, and sports matches without a live audience. But at least
the sports competition can run again, that's the most important thing. So I am very happy to play sports gambling again.

I'm happy too that sport events are back, even without audience. But for how long? In sone countries situation is getting worse again, new infected people appear so if that continues governments could make decisions to stop sport matches again. I'm afraid that wouldn't be bad just for us but allso for the future of sport in general. That worries me a bit.
If this virus remains for too long without a cure or vaccine, it will indeed affect sports in general, but if that happens, I think people will understand that it's not the priority since we all need to survive. At least sports can still resume, let's be thankful for that.

But while there is still no vaccine available, I'm afraid that we will also have to deal with only watching games online or televised. They can't risk everyone if they will allow live audiences. Talking about the availability of the vaccine, maybe this will take a year or worse, it will take years. And imagine having no live audience for that long is frustrating.
896  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Coins.ph Official Thread on: June 19, 2020, 10:08:18 AM

Napatingin ako sa cashout history ko kasi wala naman akong ginawang BPI withdrawal at baka na-scam ako and the good thing is di nag-proceed iyong BPI withdrawal so napa-email si coins.ph. Pero ok naman on my end.

Yesterday, I've received an email again from the legit coins.ph email service saying na, nagkamali lang daw sila ng email na iyong about sa BPI. Idisregard ko na lang daw. Pati mga kapamilya kong may coins.ph nakareceived nung email about BPI then apology email yesterday.

Mukhang may nagaganap. It's just a noticed email.

~snipped~
~snip
897  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Businesses in Manila accepting crypto as payment (hotels groceries, cars, houses on: June 19, 2020, 09:02:10 AM
It's kinda hard to find a merchant or shops that actually accept crypto payment here in Manila. I tried searching but I only saw old articles so I am not sure if those stores still accept bitcoin payment or if they already stopped. Even though I'm living in Metro Manila, I have not encountered nor found a shop that accepts bitcoin payment. It's kinda understandable since most Filipino people still depend on fiat and does not have any idea about crypto and bitcoin. And I also think that one of the reasons why we rarely see shops that are open to crypto payment is because most customers might just ignore this option since fiat is more convenient for most.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a topic here in the local board before about Paolo Bediones saying he made his first bitcoin transaction in his resto-bar. However, I don't know if they are still open for crypto payments since the tweet he made last 2017 was deleted already.
898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I like to learn and use bitcoin on: June 18, 2020, 02:09:04 PM
I get the point but I think it's hard for older people to understand such things because they grew up with lesser technological innovation. It's already hard for them to use cellphones, what more with crypto and blockchain since it's more complicated to understand. In our generation, advancement is so rapid and they can't follow or cope up with it because during their generations it was not like that. So I also understand if it will be hard for them to understand cryptocurrency.

I believe it's more suitable to teach the younger generation because they can easily cope up with advancement. They will need it in the future years, while it won't be necessary for older people. While we are still at the early stage of crypto adoption, it's the best time to teach those younger people who will benefit from it in the future. Imagine if we manage to achieve crypto mass adoption, those older people probably won't be here anymore, so it's better to approach and target younger people for this kind of innovation.
899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Covid wave vs Bitcoin on: June 18, 2020, 01:37:21 PM
If it's really the reason why the price dropped, I don't think it will happen again. What happened during the first wave we are probably just because people are afraid and surprised by the unexpected virus. Almost all markets are affected because we did not expect that this virus can be a threat to everyone. But since people are now trying to slowly adjust and adapt to the new normal, I don't think it will have the same response or effect if the second wave will occur. In my country, we're not even done with the first wave because we were not able to flatten the curve, it just keeps on increasing.

We should really expect that the number of cases will increase since, after months of lockdown, we need to reopen businesses to save the economy and there will be more possibility of spreading the virus.
900  Economy / Economics / Re: Using old method in a small scale business (developing countries) on: June 18, 2020, 10:25:53 AM
Those kinds of businesses really need to attract customers by providing good services even though it's just a small business to make their business successful. Some businesses can't also afford to put so much capital for their business so they can't provide everything, what matters is that they are earning. But in my country, there's a popular small business that does not really need to put so much effort into customer satisfaction yet they can still earn enough.

In the Philippines which is also a developing country, micro, and small enterprises are very popular and it takes more than 50% of MSME in the Philippines.  We have this called "sari-sari store" which means variety. It's a small scale business that you can see everywhere in the Philippines, and those things you have mentioned don't really matter for them. They don't need a good presentation because they just resell a variety of products per piece. Owners also don't need to have records or accounting knowledge because the income is not that big but is enough to feed their families and they don't need people to work for them.

It's very popular in my country, that even without those things, they can still earn enough profit and their small business can still run for years.
