+5.000usd for the same unit that was sold at 1.500usd when the difficulty was MUCH lower. It seems SO WRONG to me....

Note pre-order users paid high risks the chip will ever work or not.

Yeah, business done right in a ponzi-style fashion. First one to jump in takes the big cut, last ones remain holding the bag (and broken).

I thought AVALON was a serious company.

The reward in ordering first is the lower difficulty, and thus the MUCH higher profitability.

I could accept a 50% increase on the first units... But come on... +300%?? To get a unit when the difficulty will be SO higher? Just to get a ROI in (maybe) 10 months?

I'm sure you're happy of being one of the first customers to receive one of the first batch units. Congratulations. Yo did good. But this does not mean that you have to support such a bad move from a company. Be sincere: are you going to buy batch #3 units at this price?

I was planning for buying one but no way for that price. I think now is safe to say that competition is required for that price to drop.

Yep - absolutely. Suddenly it seems that if this price sticks, and BFL delivers, Avalon is going to lose big time.

Not AVALON, but AVALON's customers. You can bet that at +5000usd they will make a big profit for unit. I don't think they will sell them out, but they will sell at least a couple of hundreds to miners that have plenty of coins to spare. And if BFL never delivers, or delivers in September/October, those miners will still make a not-so-big profit, but a profit nevertheless.

But for someone buying the coins at the current exchange rate, is a losing bet. Even if BFL turns out to be a scam, the not-so-big profit will not justify the gamble.

88 btc is only 10-15 days mining with Avalon.

Where can you find hardware with such a ROI ?

I would buy even if ROI would be 2-3 months.

And btw I paid 107 btc for my batch 1 unit back in October 2012.

Yeh.. today.. What about two months forward when they actually ship ? When there will be #2 avalons minning and maybe BFLs ?

If the only hashing power on the network from now on comes from AVALON, when all their 1.500 units are deployed those units will only mine 1.3btc per day, so there you have your 2/3 months ROI. If other players (BFL, but also ASICminer) deploy more hashing power, well... Your ROI can come after 10 months, or maybe... Never. To buy at +5.000usd you have to bet that:

- BFL is a scam and won't deliver any unit in 2013
- No other ASIC company will deploy hashing power

If the above is true, when you get your third batch unit in May/June, you will have your ROI in 2/3 months. If the above conditions fails, you can tell bye bye to your ROI.

First batch customers gambled less money ($) with much more future profits.

FYI - ASICMINER is already in the process to deploy more hashing power - so that is given. This alone breaks the 5K+ investment.

my results:
  • => SUMMARY
[Elapsed] => 83792
   [MHS av] => 71481.37
   [Found Blocks] => 0
   [Getworks] => 1493
   [Accepted] => 1382251
   [Rejected] => 7422
   [Hardware Errors] => 2172
  [Utility] => 989.77
   [Discarded] => 2887
   [Stale] => 190
   [Get Failures] => 1
   [Local Work] => 1462331
   [Remote Failures] => 96
   [Network Blocks] => 166
   [Total MH] => 5989585917.9822
   [Work Utility] => 1002.88
   [Difficulty Accepted] => 1390275.00000000
   [Difficulty Rejected] => 7422.00000000
   [Difficulty Stale] => 0.00000000
   [Best Share] => 931191

I tried difficulty 64, utility dropped to 19, and then difficulty 32, utility back to 32, so I guess it is not setting related

Before, when I run a 5970 rig, when I started to get a 10% of Hardware Errors in cgminer, that GPU would die in a month, possibly VRM failure, so I don't know in this case what this large error indicate

It is nice that AVALON is very modulized, even one of the miner totally toasted, it will only affect 1/24 of hash power

Is that $5000+ price definitive?

Looks like a bit of a radical hike to me. But I will believe they would set that price when I see it, to be honest.

Also, I'd have to pay VAT on top of that. I think I'd pass.

$1600 and I'm in.

Good luck to everybody.
