The old cgminer (or is it some other task running in background?) is disabling (and enabling) cores with too many HW errors.
This can be visualized using that BertMod utility.
bfgmiger is now doing this task by its own. You can see the number of active cores (2*4*48=384 for a Saturn) in the status
line. It looks like you can manually "enable" disabled cores. Will they also be enabled over time automatically again?
Is it possible that the BertMod statistics don't match the status of bfgminer?
BFGMiner only scans the core state at startup, and doesn't yet support enabling or disabling them, either manually or automatically.

Is it possibly to permanently "break/destroy" a core that drops many HW errors and that is not disabled?

Will work for BTC and DEM (eMark)   No joke!   Network, WiFi, IPv6

I don't think the miner has anything to do with enabling/disabling cores...  I'm pretty sure that is done by the program called 'asic_test' that is run at startup, and saves its output in /config/asic_test.  I could be wrong.

.96 and asic_test seems to make enabling/disabling cores a two step process now.

In the past flaky cores would go off and on all the time but .96 seems to do a few tests early and just shuts them off and creates that file as a blueprint to keep troubled ones off for good

you can still have cores come on and off using .96 but it is really reduced by the early filtering of bad ones

and then you can run enabled_cores to try to get bad ones back on (I guess just keep running it until you get as many to pass as you can)

So is it just me or is Eligius' payment system broken?  The payment graphs are not updating, the queue status is frozen and I haven't received any pay-outs in like 12-ish hours.  Gonna be pissed if half a day's mining gets destroyed.

It was a very steady ~455 on BTCGuild which didn't happen on the native cgminer.  cgminer would have a wider range and be a little lower on avg. ~440

I just ran enabled cores a few times and show a lot back and quit cgminer quickly so it didnt have a chance to shut any off (I think) and will try to run bfgminer with .94  (not sure if the VRMs will go higher without a reset, we'll see)


PS- I am not touching my good miner for now, but since I have troubled miner it is interesting to see what I can get out of it

I don't understand how you are getting .7 out of the VRMs on firmware 0.94.  I'm running 0.94  and have .9+v and don't see .7 unless I run 0.95.

Should be able to tar it up. Maybe save the packages you need there too.

I would think you could statically compile the binary so all the libraries are linked into the final product, then stash that on /config.  Then just copy it over to /home/root or wherever to actually run it.

I believe you have to do the secret handshake to get it to switch back to high volts once you go to .95+  Wink

It might need a hard reset or perhaps going to an earlier firmware first..  i kinda forget myself the surefire way of switching them back
