Setting up a 'backup pool' is simple. On the common mining software such as cgminer and bfgminer type [P]ool, then [A]dd, and enter the details of the pool.  These settings can be saved ([S ]ettings, [W]rite config file.  Saving the configuration remembers these settings so that they don't have to be manually reentered every time.  Different pool switching strategies can be selected as well.  The mining software monitors which of the pools on the list '.

Slush's pool anomaly. Payment for 20 second round changed.

This is regarding round 21478.

Before screenshot of share
 https://www.dropbox.com/s/15r266vfei14297/Screenshot%202014-01-16%2023.54.34.png

After screenshot of share
 https://www.dropbox.com/s/hnt0jeauy128sha/Screenshot%202014-01-17%2023.20.45.png

I noticed the difference becauase this share should have taken me over my payout threshold. I had been watching it until 6 confirmations left.

What gives?These aren't estimated figures.

I had it revised down too.  It was 'too good to be true' probably, and now it reflects my hash rate and is similar to adjacent blocks.  While with extremely short blocks you might get luck if you have very fast miners and super fast internet connection and 'beat the big boys', it rarely happens.  In the past usually Slush 'under pays' initially and later revises it up (following screams and cries from us poor hashers)....

you can find the instructions in the readme of the miner you are using. also a good thing to know how to properly use the program.

I'm done with Slush...still have an unanswered ticket for more then 2 weeks now. Not responding AT ALL but in the mean while i can give him 2% for all my work. The service is a joke for it.

“Mr Bond, they have a saying in Chicago: 'Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action'.”
Well, GHash.IO has done it to us again with block 280616.  The timings are really weird:  the timestamp for 280616 - 12:20:06 - is more than two minutes later than the received time - 12:17:31 (which is the same as the time claimed by Slush) - and is even nearly two minutes later than the next block, 280617, which was also bagged by GHash.IO.  Something doesn't look right.

Does anybody know if they have done this to other pools?
Yes, repeatedly. It's a common complain about gigahash.io

Though to be fair, we did solve two blocks in a row yesterday (280561 and 280562) and orphaned someone else's block (280562) when the network picked ours.

I saw the recent statement by hash.io that they will do no evil. But I also read last month about the double spend attack they pulled in September of last year. I don't think they can be trusted and tend to lean toward guilty until proven innocent with this pool. Maybe its time to ask the group Anonymous to assist here. If they were to target the independent miners using that pool we would see them leaving in droves, cutting their hashing power in half.

Makes me wonder with all the front end glitches recently, whether there is something wrong now at the back end - we've never really recovered from the server problems the other day.............................

yeah, last couple of weeks have been weird.  many invalid, lots of unconfirmed for prolonged times, miners getting disconnected, now "stingy" blocks.  no updates on slush page or FB site.  site has way too much hashing power to only have 3 blocks in 2 days.

What I'd like to see as another luck definition is the daily percentage of the network hashing power that the pools have versus the percentage of coins mined by each pool, which might give us an idea of any possible problems.

A rough calculation I have just done:

Network hash rate per http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg90ztgSza1gSMAzm1g10za2gEMAzm2g25zv is about 15,300 TH
Slush pool is about 725 TH

Slush % is about 4.75%

Blocks released per hour is about 7, so per day = 168

4.75% of 168 is about 8 - I don't think that luck comes into the current situation, I think something is awry.

bitching and moaning about poor luck or administration hiccups are "on topic" for this thread.

Bitching about poor luck is on topic...LOL...HAHAHAHAHA!

This is what I have to say about that:

http://www.youtube.com/embed/5hfYJsQAhl0

Hey friend, "luck" is at 34% and we are another block that might last half a day. How do you feel about bitching about poor luck now? Still not on topic? How about the way the pool starts crashing right before a stretch of bad "luck". Pool solved 2 blocks yesterday :|

You use a movie clip to discredit this idea, funny stuff, but does anyone at all think there might be more than coincidence within the "luck" we see? I'm not accusing the pool owner of stealing, but I see a pattern where the pool will have technical issues, and then we get slammed with bad "luck" for a few days. Doesn't pass the smell test...

Just for info in case anyone is interested BTC Guild has been experiencing slow mining troubles also and has paid one block twice yesterday and now taking it back. They are also stating they have NO IDEA why the sudden slow down in the btc domenon. Huh

Here is a recent posting by them:

A block was paid out twice earlier today due to a severe slowdown in the bitcoin daemon used to scan for new blocks. This block has been removed from the payment history and the shifts since it was already paid once. Rewards will have decreased by 1 block for all users that were active between shifts 14027 and 14036. This should not materially affect overall rewards for any users. If a user's balance has gone negative as a result, it is highly unlikely their balance will remain negative by the time those shifts are closed due to additional block solves.

The exact reason the bitcoin daemon became so slow is not known, but secondary checks have been put into place to prevent a double payment from happening in the future.

So I'd say this is a btc wide issue - just my opinion since I'm a n00b. Grin

Also I noticed they mentioned the slow down as severe and talked about it 2 times in such a short post. BUT they DID make sure they corrected their double payment mistake but didn't address the overall slowdown since they don't know why either.

The only difference with them and Slush is they respond faster it seems but since they made a double payment by mistake and needed to take it back they HAD to say something now. Seems all pools are having issues right now go check some of them out yourself. Smiley

And you call me a n00b! LOL  Funny how a n00b will take the time to check things out while many old timers don't and just complain.

Not the gentleman who made the comment about pool luck I just shortened the quotes some.    Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue

Another five hour block? WTF? Someone here has offended the gods or something; throw yourself on your sword please, and let's get on with it. Jeez. I had high hopes after day before yesterday, when things went so well. I'll be in the corner crying if anyone needs me.
