When ambient is at an acceptable temperature, you just need ventilation. It doesn't matter how much heat you put into the air if you can simply substitute that air with ambient temp air.

You think if even is +40C?
Yep.

It doesn't matter how fast you wee into a cup, if I keep replacing your cup with an empty cup, you'll never fill it.

not quite a correct analogy.

Ventilation does not prevent turbulence. Air can be travel inefficiently that hot air got suck back into the miner .
You need to build a ducting system right at the rack. Thats the only way to control direction of air. Remember folks, you need ventilation and air direction control to be effective.

You don't if you have floor to ceiling double ended ventilation. Ie a door on one side and a door on the other....
I have my miners in my garage and this will be the first hot weekend of the summer. I'm hoping that by opening my garage door a few times a day I can recycle the air. Its north facing and thats where the cool wind comes from. If that doesnt work I have a 12000 BTC portable AC unit ready to go. Would rather not use it though.

That portable AC unit won't do anything in your garage. Once your garage's ambient temperature starts to increase well into the 80's and lower 90's there isn't much you can do. And since most garage's aren't insulated (why would they be) they are hard to cool and hard to keep warm. They aren't designed to be. Notice no videos with these powered on? There's really no where you can put one in any house and not hear it.

Its an attached double garage that is insulated since im in canada. I think it will work I'll place it right near the miners I take and ezhaust through the wall to the outside. Right now im running 21 S1's and I cant hear them inside. 1 SP10 cant make that much difference. Im already using loud server psu for some of my ants.

damn for a sec i thought you said 21 SP10s!!! I wanted to know what kind of garage.... hehehe until i realised ....

What is your total power consumption right now?

... how is the exhaust air temperature measured? where is the sensor located and what type of sensor is it? (possible the name and model ) I assume the front/back temp are intake/exhaust air temp ...

It's the weekend in Israel, it might take few days to answer

Understood,

Btw, what is the command line for checking stats of the miner?

8400 watts spread between 2 30amp 240v circuits each with their own 30 amp pdu. I would like to get more SP10's going but will need to sell some ant first. Need to keep power consumption under 11600 kw. This is already crazy and I have to draw the line somewhere!

It takes some hours to confirm the payment, you will get another email. (from robot@... or something)

If you chose payment via bitpay, it will only show payment pending when bitpay confirmed full funds arrived.

Thanks for info that's exactly what they said in reply to my e-mail.

Get use to it seljo, we are not in "Kansas anymore". Welcome to Spondoolies-Tech where customers are respected with answers to our questions in a timely manor.

If anyone from Canada is interested, I'm trying to arrange a group discount for hosting SP30s at a data center in Montreal. Electricity price can go as low as $0.09 depending on the volume.

If interested, pm me.

I should open a DC in my basement in Manitoba, I only pay .075 Smiley

Google the rates in WA state and Minot North Dakota.
I think its somewhere around 1.2 - 2C per KW/h

SP 10
A lot of noise?
Suitable for a small apartment??

Not really. You might want to find another place to host it.

This was my DIY soundproofing / AC cold air containment project.
The AC is rated for a large room.  Now its cooling about 10 sq feet.
Set at 25 degrees I can keep the front air intake at 24 degree.
Bottom SP10 about 26 since it picks up some of the heat from above.
AC adds very little power useage luckily since it runs VERY efficient for
such a small space but WOW, those things PUMP out hot air if you stand
behind them.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26417929/Video%20May%2020%2C%207%2003%2040%20AM.mov

I just found some cheap rack hosting in the US through a friend of a friend.

I did this for the time being.
1 inch foam around the 7 foot rack from floor to ceiling.
It has a 220V AC BLASTING into the little self contained closet.
NO ventalation because if I open the balcony you can hear it 2 blocks
down.
Ive got it down to under 25db now I think.
Maybe hang a blanket down from the ceiling too would drop it even
lower but I can sleep in the room.  I did start using one earplug though to sleep
easier.

SP can you please provide a link to some rackmount ears for the SP10?

There are so many options, I just want some that work on the SP10 without going through the trial-and-error of ordering the wrong ones a few times.

PM me if you are worried that it may seem you are "endorsing" a product.

I think someone posted in the SP10 GB thread that Cisco 2950 mounting ears work.
I have a pair that I need to see if they line up.
If no a couple quick drill holes will fix that problem.

I did start using one earplug though to sleep
easier.

er you lost me on the no ventilation part? the rear end of the a/c unit is hanging out of a window right?

confused...on this 'alien pod' concept

SO, its hard to explain, need a video inside the home made server cabinet.
Ill look for a picture of the rack before I did the sound dampening with foam.
SO, the rack is standing in the corner of the room.
The AC unit is attached to the wall directly behind and above the SP10s level.
It is a two piece AC unit.
It has copper pipes that go outside to the pump.

The AC has a directional blade to set the air to shoot right into the front of the
intake.
The hot air is going toward the wall, or in this case, it is a balcony door.
If I could open the balcony door, the hot air would go right out, but SOOOOO loud.
Outside I could hear them running two blocks down the street with the sound bouncing
off buildings the whole way down.
I think with the balcony door wide open and the AC unit on full blast in FAN MODE only to
save on AC electricity use, it would work fine since the heat would go right out the window that
is about 3 feet away.

If you could make a piece of AC conduit, and a mounting piece on the back
of the sp10 to direct the hot air out the conduit, make some baffling or something,
then the heat would go right out the door.

Something like this could work well to get the hot air out the door and not leak into
the room, and possibly help with the noise outside a little....

Anyone know where to get an AC DUCTING setup like this in the picture....??

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg6800182#msg6800182

Someone in the SP10 GB page had an idea with AC pipe conduit.  I think then you could baffle
the sound out the end of the conduit somehow and also direct the hot air out the room and not
into the room at all.  More efficient if it could work right I THINK.

Indeed, I'm not an ASIC technical guy.
Point taken. After Passover holiday (towards the end of next week) we'll publish some more technical data.
I do however know the exact status of the project and it's timeline. And everything I've said is true.

As explained multiple time before. The 2nd gen is a simple die shrink of our 1st gen ASIC. It's essentially the same engine.
Well, there enough people here who understand that with a simple die shrink noise margins shrink faster than the consumed power.

Anyway, I will gladly wait for an update after Nissan 22nd, 5774.

Meanwhile, please enjoy a belated happy Purim song, because I don't know any Passover songs.

SP can you please provide a link to some rackmount ears for the SP10?

There are so many options, I just want some that work on the SP10 without going through the trial-and-error of ordering the wrong ones a few times.

PM me if you are worried that it may seem you are "endorsing" a product.

It's custom made. Please contacts sales@spondoolies-tech.com
We'll add it as a product in our store soon.

The ears we can provide are only the front side mounting ears and you will need to add some additional mounting element to the rear side.

We are planning to solve it for the SP30 and to provide ears for both sides that may fit most if not all racks.

Mechanical drawing of the mounting ears can be found here

Those fit only the front side of the SP10 unit.
For a proper installation of the unit in a rack you should use either a 19” rack mount shelf or an additional bracket to be mounted on the rear side of the unit.
Using the front rack mount ears only is not enough to hold the unit to the rack.

The SP30 rack mount ears will be provided with the unit and will fit standard 19” racks.

Old debt. Some technical data and slides from RockerBox tapeout review done 10 days ago at Global Unichip.
Thanks. Could you ask them why they used TOGGLE_RATE 0.2? For SHA-256 TOGGLE_RATE should be 50%, this is pretty much a design goal for any one-way hash function.

Edit: Bonus question: Ask them how they calibrate/characterize the temperature sensors. IIRC your temperature sensors are intentionally low-resolution: something like 10C,20C,30C,... What is the achieved accuracy of step-crossing temperature for your existing chips that were already manufactured?

This is part of our IP Wink

We reduced the engine toggle rate by using innovative algorithm implemented in the Verilog. No need for custom design, we can move fast between process nodes.
It's already working in the Hammer - proven design.

... how is the exhaust air temperature measured? where is the sensor located and what type of sensor is it? (possible the name and model ) I assume the front/back temp are intake/exhaust air temp ...

It's the weekend in Israel, it might take few days to answer

Understood,

Btw, what is the command line for checking stats of the miner?

Regarding the temperature sensor, Harel replied:

We have one sensor on the MNG that monitor the incoming air and one sensor on each of the Main board monitoring the exhaust air.
It's TI LM75AIMX/NOPB, you can find the info here

For board related questions, please contact harel@ or benny@

Has the 28nm chip been taped out yet?

Hey, I missed you, my friend.

Yes, we've taped out. The project is on track regarding spec and dates.

Guy

Very nice.

I'm surprised you guys didn't announce it ASAP. Don't you know garnering preorders 101?

It seems that the most commonly missed deadline is tapeout so in my non-expert opinion the chances of delays are greatly reduced.

However still very skeptical of july delivery let alone august although I have a feeling I may be proven wrong by this company.

Is this blog post good enough ?

See, I'm getting better  Wink

How those AM dividends coming along ? (couldn't resist  Grin)
You understand that AM will have very hard time compete on 28 ?

That looks great.

As TSMC recently announced a longer lead-time for 28nm production, please reaffirm everyone that you aren´t affected by this. (and maybe include a short description why)

Is this delay only for "new" orders, and your order was previously placed with them?

Thank you.

We don't order directly from TSMC. GUC pre-allocated our production slots. We're good regarding July and August batches.
We might be affected in our September batch. We'll know soon when we'll PO the ASICs for September order (beginning of June).

About Global Unichip:
It's TSMC subsidiary. Look at GUC board of directors here

Our Temperature Sensor's spec is +/- 5%. The +/- 5% represent limits with 3-sigma probability. Practically its accuracy is much better. Temperature Sensor of every produced chip is tested as a part of chip's production test. Automatic calibration is a part of the sensor so no any additional calibration is required. The Thermal sensor IP was bought from GUC and it's silicon proven.

Suggestion: On the SP10 summary page, 'Best Share' should be displayed in Metric prefix; That is, with k, M, G, T

eg. atm it displays:

Best Share
    6681579

it would be easier to read if it was:

Best Share
   6.6M
