Osimhen is an elite striker. Perhaps, He's not to everyone's taste but arguments can't be made against his consistency & progression across 3 leagues & teams. It goes against every grain of common sense to focus exclusively on AFCON as a test of his abilities when none of the shining stars has particularly come to the fore.

Honestly I think we are all only criticizing them because they have not been winning convincingly.
Imagine osimhen scored the two clear chances he had in the first game. Then, same in the second and third.
Plus all the wrongly disallowed goal will we be saying they are underperforming? Maybe he’s too relax, but he is the best in the squad, you just can’t drop him for another striker.
Which wrongly disallowed goal? The officiating has been spot on in the tournament, you cannot deny that. No doubt Victor Osimhen is an incredible player, we are not disputing that fact. He has the trophies and accolades to prove that. But if we are being honest, Osimhen hasn’t been impressive in this tournament so far. If he is having trouble syncing with the other players or he’s lost his confidence, he should have that problem fixed before Saturday’s game.

The Super Eagles are playing average football but they are getting the results. They have not given us the confidence that they can go all the way to winning the title. So far, only a handful of the players have impressed me. The other players have not displayed the skill and stamina needed to play African football. Victor Osimhen gets chances and he throws them away, the Osimhen at Napoli would have scored those goals yesterday but the Osimhen at the AFCON is shooting wide. I think it’s time for José Peseiro to trust his other strikers.

Judging from previous matches between Nigeria and Cameroon, Nigerians have a higher percentage of winning the match, but one thing we need to ask is: are they as strong and corporate as they were during those last seasons?

From the last match that I was watching live, Nigerians have a better defensive position, which was a good one, but their difficulty scoring a goal is what I could not just understand.

If not for the on-goal that happens by mistake or miracle, that match could have just ended as a draw for them. If Nigeria can start scoring goals, then we can rest assured that the Sunday match will be in our favour, but if they don't, there is a possibility that Cameroon might use any slit opportunities and win the match.
Being good in your defense does not give us the certainty of winning that match, we have one of the rated player and even his best is not shown during matches. We should know if the match ends draw going down to playing penalties there is no assurance of winning cos penalty are usually by luck.

I think footballers representing their county in the AFCON competition are not happy that their presidents are not interested in watching them play live in the stadium. That they prefer watching on TV. However, the Nigerian captain has come out in public to address this situation. He is addressing this to his president, so read what he said.

AFCON: Don’t watch us on TV anymore – Super Eagles captain, Musa sends message to President Tinubu

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to watch the team on television anymore but to come over to Ivory Coast and cheer them at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Is it compulsory that the president should watch them live? To me i feel it is part of his duties to show that patriotic feeling by traveling with them to the stadium. Or maybe he is not a fan of football, and he is not impressed with their performance. Am just saying maybe he has his own personal reason.

Osimhen scored in the first match against Guinea, and it seems to me that it is not worth blaming a player for scoring only one goal in three group stage matches if the entire team scored only three goals. Nigeria has a better defense, perhaps this is what they will build on, Nigeria conceded only one goal in the group stage, and Cameroon conceded 6 goals, the difference seems obvious to me. But you shouldn’t blame a player for poor performance, national team matches don’t take place so often that players can play so well.

Osimhen have never been a bad striker for the Nigerian national team, just that Nigerian pattern of play is totally different from Napolian style of play, in that Napoli team, the midfielder makes it easier for the attacker, but in the Nigerian color that's never the case.

Secondly, in as much as Nigeria vs Cameroon will always be a fascinating encounter, the Nigerian team need to step up and work on their attack, since their defense is well able to do, if they must qualify to the next round.

The feeling of happiness that will become enthusiastic will definitely increase when the President comes directly to the stadium to watch them compete.
The players are aware that their actions for the national team in a big tournament like AFCON will be watched by tens of thousands or tens of millions of eyes on television screens, but watching it live in the stadium feels different.

Even though the President is not a fan of football, attending the stadium to watch them seems to me the right thing to do.
For players, being able to strengthen the national team is a matter of pride. And for the president, being able to provide direct support is an honor for the players.

If the Nigeria Super Eagle captain wants the president Bola Tinubu to go down to Ivory Coast to watch their match, then they must merit it, and not with this their boring pattern of football that they cannot score clean goals. Has he forgotten that our president is an old man, and does the captain want him to have high blood pressure on the weak performance. I must tell you the fact, even if I am not the president, I wouldn't waste my time and funds to travel down to Abidjan to watch a match that might end up to be a disappointment.

Tinubu is the president and has a lot on his desk, and I will not advise him to go and watch a match that you can't tell if the super eagles are capable of winning. If they want people to go to Ivory Coast and watch their performance, let them improve their performance and reach the final stage, and I believe that a lot of Nigerians, maybe including the president Bola Tinubu will be happy to go and cheer them up on the finals.

I don't need the ideas of nobody to tell me Victor Oshime is a bad striker why? Because he hasn't scored for Nigeria International. They shouldn't forget he doesn't have the same kinds of players he has with Napoli so they don't have no grounds to compare or get angry over such a player, new set of Afcon based players ( Home Base ) should be employed to play the next World Cup Competition or the Afcon with new set of players eager to play for the club.

Serious I have the same thing going on in my mind as you, and that is why once I come across this post, that’s why I quote it. However, Oshimen is not really doing well in the AFCON this time around, and I’m surprised at how he plays for Napoli and comes back home playing the way he is doing now because if the striker had put in effort and done what he is doing in Napoli, he would have scored a goal, but the player is not doing as expected seriously. And it weakens me down. Any time Nigeria has a match, I always don’t put high expectations on them because I always think they won’t win due to how the players are doing.

The game against Cameroon will be a great test. Nigerians will have to win or run back home. Cameroon will fight to give Nigeria a strong head. I'm still not clear if they'll be ables to win.

That game will be the toughest for the supper eagle, seriously, because Cameroon have a strong squad and they are playing better than them. However, on the issue of home base players you mentioned, if Nigeria will use this method you mention and forget about these players they think are better than other ones in the street, I believe they will do very much better than what the current squad is doing. Because talented players are on the street looking for a way to get in and play for the nation. They are even hungry for balls, not like these people who are doing what they like for us. However, for the match against Cameroon, we should wait and see because Cameron is stronger.

Being good in your defense does not give us the certainty of winning that match, we have one of the rated player and even his best is not shown during matches. We should know if the match ends draw going down to playing penalties there is no assurance of winning cos penalty are usually by luck.
Neither does have good strikers gives you certainty of winning a match. Have a good defense may not give a certainty of winning but will definitely go a long way to put the team at a winning advantage over their opponent because their opponents have lesser chances of scoring goals which could mean that if they are able to get a goal and protect it well enough with their good defensive line then they will definitely end up in a victory by the end of the game so it's very important that you have your defense line formidable such that strikers will find it difficult penetrating the defense line.

A very good a creative attack can also be an advantage to breaking a good defense because the only way to get through a good defense and succeeding in getting a goal is by having good creativity

The president would support them but having yo come all the way to watch their RO16 match would be too much for him at this age.
I quite agree that the super Eagles are quite boring to watch and so far in the competition, they have not really scored much goals except for the fact they have been lucky with own goals.
The style of play has to be improved upon mostly as their next encounter would be against Cameroon. I hear all of the players and coaching crew making a sound noise about winning, but I know if they don't get to score early goals, the match might result into a penalty which they might find hard to win.

The round 16 is about to start for many teams that are not capable to win the AFCON trophy to start dropping out for those that are capable to drag the trophy to remain till final battle for their fans to be proud of them in this season.

I think, it's too early to predict who will win this AFCON trophy in this season because, there are still strong teams who are capable to improve higher in this round 16 to ensure what happened in the beginning that made them to struggle to qualified for the round 16 will not happen again.

The AFCON this year will not seize to amaze me, imagine a country like Mauritania winning a strong country like Algeria that have won the AFCON competition on two occasions even to the extent of eliminating them from the AFCON at just group stages thereby Algeria couldn't qualify for the knockout stages. Who would have believed from the beginning of the group stage matches that Algeria wouldn't be able to qualify for the round of sixteen considering the fact that they seem like the strongest country in their group but just look at them now at the bottom of their group table after they played 3 matches, draw 2 out of the 3 and were unable to win even a single match.

Algeria's performance is not encouraging at all, and everyone can testify that they are usually one of the strongest teams in the AFCON, but I just don’t know why they were so weak at their game with Mauritania. Actually, even their performance in the game was good, but the small mistake that Algeria made is what gave Mauritania the golden opportunity; they used it to score their goal around the first 37 minutes of the game, although many will be happy for Mauritania for their victory in the game.

To me, I will say that Algeria is not serious about their game this season. Can you imagine that in three consecutive matches, they were not able to win even one of the games? It is a very poor performance from them, and they have already started seeing the results because they are now the last in the table, so a disgracing performance from Algeria.

You can't actually blame Algeria for their poor performance in the AFCON because almost all the whole country in the competition didn't find it easy at all, how about Ghana that didn't qualify as well? Ghana was leading Mozambique by 2:0 till 90 minutes just few minutes to the end of the match Mozambique equalized the match and made Ghana not to qualify for the knockout stages so this AFCON group stage matches was really tough.

Apart from Senegal that won all their 3 group stage matches I don't think any other country won all their matches in the group stages that's to show you how competitive the group stage matches were so I don't see Algeria's performance as disgracing regardless of the fact that they couldn't win any match.

The game against Cameroon will be a great test. Nigerians will have to win or run back home. Cameroon will fight to give Nigeria a strong head. I'm still not clear if they'll be ables to win.
This is the second time today that I'm seeing a post which the poster is saying that Victor Osimhen isn't a good striker and I can't help but imagine what could be the very source of such claim. Victor Osimhen after scoring in the Super Eagles first game against Equatorial Guinea have never found the net but has been very instrumental to the success of the team so far and that's why I think he doesn't deserve all the criticism he's currently receiving.

Of a truth, the primary work of a striker is to score goals plenty of goals of which the Nigeria international haven't been doing in the ongoing tournament but it doesn't mean that he's not a good striker.

Nigerian players are not playing a beautiful football there at Ivory coast,I've watched them play, and I'm not seeing any player who is impressing me,apart from Aina, the young Fulham player who plays at right back,he is the only one who is really showing that he is a big player.Betweem Nigeria and Cameroon, the latter plays more better than the super eagles, the only thing I see in the super eagles'team is their strong defence line, they have been very solid defensively, and even when their front line loss a ball to their opponent, their back have always defended well, and this is why they have conceded fewer goals so far in the tournament. Therefore,if they want the president to come watch them, they must improve in the way they play.

The present of the president will not male any difference. In the case of Nigeria, if Tinubu honours that invitation,  he will be returning with the players Cheesy. I prefer he continue watching them on television so long as they continue getting their narrow victories. Now is even knockout stage,  there will be no room for mistakes.

With the backlash that Cameroon received at the group stage, they will not lose carelessly in this round. They will do everything to avoid a repeat of what happened then. This is the reason the Super Eagles have a huge task ahead. The match is a very tough one.

They should have some difficulties watching football not to even talk about understanding and making proper analysis of the game they watch. I don't blame em you know they can go ahead and write whatever crap they want to. They're entitled to them own Fvckn opinions completely.
Victor Oshime even with one goal scored is better than most players in the Afcon. My only wish is if Nigeria had a midfielder like Kudus to link up with him. They have bad productivity and it has  not helped the midfielder's and attackers to score goals.

If they take this against Cameroon, they'll be faced with nothing but hell. The defenders I can vouch for, but the rest? I think I have a personal issue with the management like they don't know what to do. Henceforth, Ademola Lookman shouldn't be dropped for a selfish player like Simon Moses truthfully.

Showing patriotism by watching the team LIVE is one of the duties as president, this duty has a lot of impacts on the National Team. Yes impact such as the motivation it brings as a whole and how it spur them up to take on their opponents. I wish the Nigerian president would hacken unto his citizen's call to go watch the Super Eagles live at ivory coast, you never tell how well it would boost their morale to do better, being aware that their president is present at the stadium to cheer them up.

That’s why even if he’s not going to be available, he can send worthy representatives who’ll make the visit worth it and will be able to spur not just the players but the fans too. I think the Captain did a great job to speak about this live. We hope to see effect from the Presidency on this topic and then we’ll know what kind of a president we’ve got.

I know very well for the fact that the president is a lover of football even before he was appointed president I read some good things he did for footballers in the past.
But then, it's good to show concern about how they've played, it's a good example of how his country has been since the general election.
They have no organization and all we hear bout him has got to be his travels to France and that!

They have more pressing matters to attend to innthe country right now. Can we leave the wacked political representative to keep on deceiving themselves and focus. Let's talk and have a proper disco about Tactics and stuff. ( Nigeria Sucks big balls! )

Even that I know how African competitions are hard to predict, but still I risked a lot on this AFCON and I got disappointed by my national team unfortunately, leaving from the first stage and losing against Mauritania not knowing what’s wrong with our team and if it’s the coach’s fault or the poor performance from players that were playing so good with their clubs. However, and not just to escape from the poor performance of our team or the fact that they didn’t play well and lost, what was off and surprised me beside most analysts is the fact that the referees didn’t check any action for Algeria in VAR in the whole match with the possibilities of many valid penalties, beside that is a weird thing everyone keeps denying and we can’t explain really.

Tomorrow we are going to witness two good matches in 1/8 finals, and here are my predictions for them and how I will settle my bets.
Angola (wins)
Vs
Namibia

Nigeria (wins)
Vs
Cameroon
