Instead of using network hashrate to solve blocks, could it be put towards something of benefit such as folding proteins? Could this be something that the network could vote on how to allocate the miners? For how advanced this project is, it seems primitive in the crypto world to just do PoW on blocks.

i think it's impossible. the only memoryless distribution is the uniform distribution, therefore we must have maximum entropy (=minimum usefulness) in order for everyone to have a fair chance to mine.

Okay that is reasonable. Are you familiar with the IOTA project and how they have created a blockless distributed ledger? It seems like if we do have to have blocks, and they have to be specific to doing Tau work, then the system design could be better. I have no practical experience in this, so my thoughts could easily be worthless on the subject.

To make it blockless I don't know that will work - I haven't seen the code for it yet - isn't it only a concept you must solve blocks to make it a blockchain inherently and keep its security protocol.

The trust scores you see are subjective; they will change depending on who you have in your trust list.

distributed ledger is easy, the big question is how much it costs to break it. and as far as i know, nothing known to compete with traditional proof of work

Will Tau-chain use PoW to secure its ledger? Will Agoras use PoW secure its ledger?

Change request:

Name change Agoras tokens to Tau (TAU) or Taucoin.

I think the coin should be more associated with the chain even though tauchain does not have a native coin. Similar to maidsafe as the coin and network have the same name even though they are to two different entities.

Yes this is minor but more of a marketing thing.

it might be the case now that the token is (somehow mistakingly) associated with tau, but, once the products will be ready, the difference will be quite visible.

So what I was talking about some pages ago happened: Bitfinex fucked up for some hours and people was scared. This is why im not investing on any coin that doesn't let me store the coins myself locally to hold them myself. Trusting exchanges or other people to hold coins for you is nonsense and very risky... unfortunately I don't see a way to securely invest in Tauchain.

Funny that I mentioned this not a long time ago and now Bitfinex has been hacked and everyone is fearing they will never see their coins back.

This is why im not asking in coins that don't have wallets if I need to keep the tokens long term. I just can't trust exchanges long term, it's a bad idea.

Did you see this response to your original post? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=950309.msg15333385#msg15333385

You don't need to keep IDNI Agoras on an exchange. You can keep them in your OMNI wallet.

Presale is still going on (on Bittrex). Once Tau is ready, whatever number of coins are still unsold will be burned.
