Oh My

So much good news and positive price action lately.  Oh My  indeed!
Is the basement finished in your monero house? I failed to increase my position before the rise, and may require somewhere to stay...

You are always welcome to stay brother.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Nice!

"Light years ahead.."  these guys really get it and are big fans (for good, well-informed reasons)

AKWAnalytics donated to Monero back in 2014 and is listed in The Monero Hall of Fame

Things could get interesting if xmr breaks out here.

Its clearly a pump and its not limited to xmr only. Dash is also heavily pumped right now. And I really doubt that suddenly lots of people decided to start using anon right now.

The only question is what will be the new support after this? Hopefully more than 170-180k.

Looks like a pump and I still haven't figured out how to sell.

It had been in the 190's for a couple of days before the breakout so I imagine it will be higher than that.  Maybe (pulls out of ass) at least 210.

I will be getting paid a few btc next week.  Let's see how lucky I get with the price of both.

OT: my time logged into BCT is 78 days Grin

Walls have been eaten and we are going up.  It was just a matter of when.

Good that I completed the pool at my Monero house yesterday.

Has happened almost everytime aminorex comes and posts that he feels bullish XMR  Grin
So true.  But then it always rises to make my ink black eventually.

Are we really listening to an octopus that hangs out with a monkey?

another day another nibble.

748  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero Support on: March 01, 2016, 02:15:53 AM
I started up bitmonerod.  Thanks to all who helped.
It's doing something but I have no idea what, so I am going to describe it.
Maybe you can tell me if it's working right.
Many lines are scrolling by.  Each line has the date and time, followed by
[P2P_][92.222.201.247:18080 OUT]Synced _____/______
where the underscores represent numbers that change on each line.
Just now, the contents of the second set of brackets changed to
[37.59.53.25:18080 OUT]
Every so often the LMDB memory map size gets increased.

Late breaking news:  I got a line that reads
2016-Feb-29 20:50:04.767999 [P2P7]WARNING: No two valid MoneroPulse DNS checkpoint records were received

When syncing from scratch and you will get what you described.  How long it takes is dependent on your hardware with AFAIK the biggest factor being whether you have a HD or SSD.

I am unsure of the warning but I don't believe it is anything to be concerned about.

Disclaimer: Even though I am clueless compared to anybody else helping you here, I figured you needed a timely response .  Hopefully somebody else can chime in.

I have spent hours catching up on this thread.  Bypassed the posts from JJG and AM.

The only reason btc is going up is because I found out yesterday (Tues) that I am getting a payment in btc tomorrow (Thurs) that is of an exact amount of USD.  So btc going up means I will receive less btc.  Then the btc price will go down.  Never fails.  Never mind all the other reasons you can come up with for the price movements.  Price when I found out I was getting paid, 420 and price now 435.  Will post the price when I receive the btc.  I know you are all waiting with baited breath.

but, it's friday.

That's what I get for working 7 days this week Tongue  Make that Thursday and Saturday Embarrassed

You can all breath easy as I got paid today and they used Stamp's price which was 432 instead of the avg on bitcoinwisdom of 435.  I'm happy at only a 1.5% loss Smiley

btc doesn't move much these days so I don't know why I psych myself out.

I won't subject you wonderful mud people to anymore useless babble Embarrassed

@BJA, FWIW this is from a live blog from one of the participants of the just concluded Satoshi roundtable

27 Feb 4:28 PM A suggestion was made for mining companies to consider moving some of their mining equipment to different jurisdictions to reduce the clustering of mining /u/fluffyponyza

I don't know how you reconcile this suggestion with the mining companies monetary self interest.

Hello fellow mud people Smiley

My btc payment denominated in USD that was supposed to arrive yesterday did not arrive.  Too bad as the price had dipped a small amount.  Should be here tomorrow.  That can only mean one thing and that is the price of btc will go up and I will get less btc.  Oh look it's going up.
752  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 27, 2016, 07:46:34 PM
I am not real.  I was not real yesterday.  I hoped to be not real again today but it seems that others are more not real than I today.

Contributing to the lack of my not realness today is the fact that I am working on my day off.

is there a GUI wallet?

I was trying to answer before any possible snarky answers were given as this is the eternal question.  However as usual I was too slow but am happy you were given proper answers.

Anyway good to see you Smiley

How come Monero still don't have wallet for windows 32 bit?
(I see you have for version 64 bit).
For example i have windows 7 32 bit and all i can do is to store my Moneros on Bittrex,
Also i have phone and same story. I wont install 64 version especially for Monero. Many think like me.
This is very strong community and good development, try to fix this.
Thanks!

p.s.
Sorry i didn't read one thousand pages to find answers for myself, i don't have much time.
 Don't get me wrong.

Besides bittrex you can store your Monero on MyMonero.com
This web wallet is run by fluffypony so no worries

Is it true?
760  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 22, 2016, 03:02:54 AM
I just started looking into monero b/c it appears to be the best anonymous coin and the value that can provide is what made bitcoin what it is today. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, you don't need to know.

But there is a legit beef. I'm an IT guy and it is NOT TRIVIAL to do transactions. The wallet is called "simplewallet" it runs via a command line interface (CLI). I tried to use some third party gui "lightwallet" but that is a total joke. It wouldn't even write the config file. After 30 mins screwing with that piece of junk, I gave up.

1. There is no desktop GUI client wallet. I find that pretty poor planning. If you have no GUI wallet, then you have no usage. Someone badly needs to step up to the plate and get that built.

2. The fact it doesn't share bitcoin's codebase is both a curse and a sparkling diamond. B/c it doesn't get some free code from the bitcoin project, the client and updates are slower.

Going back to #1.

MONERO GET A GUI CLIENT UP NOW. The coin is worthless if it requires a CS degree to use a CLI wallet to use the damn thing. Consider who your target audience is. Also explain right off the bat what the viewkey is, the spendkey, and the PAYMENT ID (which I understand is mandatory for some merchants in order to verify a transaction even existed). mymonero.com is nice but you understand the entire purpose of this coin is super privacy. You can't have people viewing transactions on a website b/c there's no GUI client. Bam there goes privacy.

That should be priority 1 while you continue to work on the infrastrature. Get some usage, feedback, and more merchant support. Please. Otherwise the entire effort may be in vain.

There will be a GUI not now but soon.  It is actively being worked on with most of the work already done and the rest was just funded.  See here, screenshots and every thing.  https://forum.getmonero.org/9/work-in-progress/2476/the-official-qt-gui-project

If you are an IT guy it should not be a big deal for you and I assume your critique is about the wider use of the coin.  It is an issue that keeps coming up so that will be reflected in the answers you get here.  I'm not an IT guy but an idiot but with some motivation and help from the community I learned to use simple wallet with no problems.  As an IT guy you can always contribute to this open source project.

Well I just joined the dev team to help in this effort. Instead of just bitching, I'm now gonna take part in hopefully making this GUI a reality sooner rather than later.

MEOW Smiley

The first 2 responses to your original post were as I said, due to the history of the seemingly eternal GUI question.  Your post was well written and I thought it deserved a more appropriate response.

Thank you for joining the effort, a pleasant surprise.

Here is a link to the Monero Forum for a post from 11 months ago titled "Why is the official GUI wallet not released yet".  It explains what is needed to come first and why.  Much of that work has been done.
