781  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Making post for merit on: January 13, 2023, 08:41:46 PM
Take note merit system was implemented to combat spam there are lots of newbies before that keeps spamming or making garbage posts newbies who do not posts high quality and helpful won't receive merit and won't be able to rank up. It means newbies will stay as a newbie with limitations like posting images and wearing signature links.
And merit was implemented to force people to make helpful and high-quality posts.

Since this is a forum we need to help each other not focus to gain merit due to the signature campaign but focus on how you help the community.
Merit serves as an additional highlight in the forum as it motivates us to do more good in posting and be a quality poster. That way, aside from avoiding spamming, we can also make the forum more healthy and useful for everyone not only for newbies but certainly for all members positions. Although we should not just be thinking about it all day, because it’s also quite frustrating when you think you’ve done your best and yet no one gives you merit, so at least we are here to make our community more of a learning place.
782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Keep your emotions balanced especially regarding Bitcoin on: January 13, 2023, 07:59:22 PM
The way I have always tackled anything in life especially Bitcoin is to have balanced emotions.

Lets say Bitcoin is $19,000. If it goes up 3% then do you throw a party? Then don't be upset when it drops 3%.

If Bitcoin doubles, I wouldn't throw a party especially since it was at $60k+ at one point. So if it cuts in half and goes to $9k I will treat it the same.

Not financial advice, but lots of people freak out over the price of Bitcoin or anything for that matter but don't have real logical reasons.

If it goes up 3% and you would be happy or neutral, then you can be bummed if it goes down 3% but don't sell based on that.

How do you guys emotionally balance Bitcoin?

Not financial advice, this thought could be applied anywhere.
I just think it’s a very volatile investment and that monitoring its price movement will never be helpful at all. That way, I can avoid my emotions to burst out especially when my portfolio is filled more with bitcoin than altcoins. And I always have come to accept that bitcoin never guarantees profits all the time, we can be profitable today but we might also lose the following day so bitcoin will always be uncertain and unpredictable. That’s why if we can protect our emotions as much as we can, then we should stay neutral and accept that bitcoin is all about winning and losing.
783  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: You Learn More from Losses than from Wins on: January 13, 2023, 07:34:25 PM
But on the other hand, losses in trading can actually teach us a lot about why we lose, what went wrong, how to avoid losing, and so on. Many lessons can be drawn from this experience.

Lessons from losses are more valuable than that gotten from profit. The lessons from loss would prevent you from making similar mistakes in the future and that will increase your chances of winning. Most traders only care about the profit and that's one of the big mistakes they do, they underestimate the losses and the lessons it can teach.

But only those who are ready to be successful at trading take note of things they did that lead to the losses they're experiencing and try to do things differently next time so they can have a successful trade. As a trader you will at times experience loss but you don't have to give up.
If you aim to succeed in the future, then quitting is not the best option, except if trading is making you unhealthy already that even your mental and emotional health are now at risk. But in most traders I know, even myself, losses do not mark the end of our trading career, instead it encourages us to trade more and find solutions why we keep on losing, so we can never repeat the same mistakes again. And when that happens, we can eventually minimize from being exposed to losses, and start to maximize gaining profits.
784  Economy / Economics / Re: What was your lowest point financially? How did you go through it ? on: January 13, 2023, 06:42:16 PM
well, in my case as I live in Africa where living conditions are not so good and it is normal to have some problems, I remember that at the beginning when I entered this cryptocurrency market I didn't have money in the bank to buy bitcoin so I had to sell my computer and bought bitcoin, but then I also spent years constantly asking my parents for money to buy bitcoin until a few years ago someone lied and stole from us and we had to sell a lot of things, it was a very bad phase of my life because I I saw that people already treated us badly because we were poor, it was shocking because when we had money they treated us very well
You know people changed especially if they think that they won’t benefit from you anymore. It’s like when you have money, they know you, but when you got no money at all, suddenly they will treat you as a stranger. I have also experienced that, even our closest relatives treat us badly because we have nothing to share, but when I started earning from crypto, suddenly my family is already music to their ears, and they started treating us just like their closest friends.
785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is It good For The Casinos And The Accusers If .. on: January 12, 2023, 09:36:25 PM
Is It Good For The Casinos And The Accusers If the casino operators decided to post a disclaimer that they will not answer accusations here in Bitcointalk but prefer to address them on other platforms that they think are fair and moderated like Askgambler and other platforms?
What's your take on this I don't want to be specific but the question applies to all casino operators.
If the casino operators are looking for a fair one, then they should learn to accept and answer the issues being address in the forum since the forum itself is a fair and moderated platform. Because if they try to avoid it and stick to their own rule, of course we can do nothing about it but surely they will find it hard attracting a lot of customers since beginners gambler usually start asking and learning in the forum.
786  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: One of the things that make people to make good content in posting on: January 12, 2023, 08:22:33 PM
During my reading of different post's and i noticed that what we call a merit, And was unable to understand what's the meaning of merit until i read from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5427823.msg61426768#msg61426768 so theirs something that motivated me to drafts this, and it's because of this person " DdmrDdmr " it suggestion make me to know that to earn merit will motivate some to change it content and make it posting narrative unique.
That's means to earn a merit someone supposed to follow this principles

Thinking before writing
Reading before posting
Making something different from others

Despite that I'm new and i haven't earn merit, but i believe with research and time i will earn merit, i will be happiest person the day i will earn a merit.
For now, I would encourage you first to just learn and gain. Focus first on accumulating knowledge and skills through crypto related articles, watching crypto videos and simply read and understand the bitcointalk forum. That way, you will have a lot of ideas regarding cryptocurrencies and you can eventually use it when you start posting in the forum. Just don’t bother thinking about getting merits this time, they will eventually come once other members find your post useful for everyone.
787  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans are once again quitting their jobs at a growing rate on: January 11, 2023, 09:43:04 PM
I wonder why people are quitting their jobs? I know the most reason would be due to low salary, but how can they survive if they're not working? I think any people will accept any jobs even though how low the salary is, rather than become unemployed and doesn't earn anything. So IMO, they've already find a job that paid very well in private, which is like a programmer where they got paid with Bitcoin and they have a chance to publish it, so the government think they're not working, but the truth they're working in their home.

That could be a reason too as they don’t declare their source of income so the government might think that they are just quitting their jobs for nothing. But I believe the most possible reason why people quit because of low compensation and because of poor environmental that they don’t want to belong anymore. And thankfully, we have online crypto jobs that are paying us well and are certainly more convenient to work at home than going out working in an office.
788  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Artur Beterbiev vs Anthony Yarde on: January 09, 2023, 02:25:10 PM
Looking at the votes ? Artur seems to be the dominant in this fight but looking at their stats? I'm not sure there are something special when they both have that long list of winning and also via knockout .

so I assume that this would be fairly judged and I don't wanna give my votes to anyone but Draw lol. because I am not interested in betting in this match but I will watch the replay .

Not seems because Artur Beterbiev has always been dominant throughout his fights and based in stats, he's the one who got the prettier record as aside from being an undefeated, he also got a 100% KO rate which makes him the KO specialist among all KO specialist in the boxing industry right now. Not to underestimate Yarde because I know he's a decent boxer who got a good record too but against Beterbiev? I doubt he can make a difference. And don't worry, I'm quite positive that this fight will be fair and square.
789  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gervonta Davis VS Hector Luis Garcia SAT, JAN 07, 2023 on: January 09, 2023, 01:53:38 PM
It was the 9th round. The official time was it had 13 seconds in round 9 before it was stopped. I have won my bet on over 7.5 rounds.

I am not quite certain why Hector Garcia's team stopped the fight. He did not appear to be tired although he  appeared affected by the last punches from Tank in round 8, however, I do not reckon it was enough to stop the fight.

It wasn't the team of Hector Garcia that actually stopped the fight. It was Hector Garcia himself who quit and told his corner to stop the fight. Round 8 was really terrible for him. Tank landed heavy shots to his open head causing Garcia to lose vision. Garcia complained that he couldn't see anymore.

I think it was a good decision for Hector. He could have pushed through with the fight but he would only be punished more. Tank gets more explosive as the rounds get by.

Congratulations for your win.

He said he can't see so that's it, he quit because the punch really hurt him to the point wherein it's bothering him and he might take more damage from the eye if he didn't quit or the corner didn't stop him.

And Garcia has no power to damage Tank, yes he has a good timing, but Tank timing is really good that he was a able to dodge some shots and if he was hit, it doesn't have that effect to his chin. Although in the post fight press conference, you can clearly see some redness and scratch in his face.

When the problem is the eyes, that's a serious problem as your opponent will just simply focus on hitting your injury. That's a good idea to stop the fight, he doesn't need to be stupid and play with his pride, this is boxing, it's a physical sport, so the boxer has to protect himself at all times, including giving up when necessary.

I see, I wasn't aware that it was the case why the fight has stopped and declared TKO in favor of Tank Davis. That said, calling and stopping the fight much earlier is the right thing to do because an eye problem is indeed a serious one, if he didn't played it cleverly, he could lose his eye and so does his career afterwards. Garcia still have a bright future, getting defeated against Davis is not yet his dead end. He can always come back with an experience.
790  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: January 09, 2023, 01:18:01 PM
You see no reason for referees using a headset inside the ring but when they do, that is something to really wonder why. There were just hypotheses about referees getting instructions from the top where they could just raise the hand of a fighter that obviously fated to win even before the fight started.

Maybe true, maybe not. We can't just associate that with a form of cheating as maybe, that serves another purpose. Although, who knows?

Generally, from judges to referees, there's really a chance to manipulate results especially if the fight turned out close.

Because of that, I remember the Bivol-Canelo bout where there are speculations that if the fight instead turned out close the whole time, judges can easily score more points for Canelo every round. This fight turned the underdog Bivol into a superstar overnight.

It does serves another purpose because the count has to be synched and referees need some guide from the outside because there might be some angle that the referees are not aware or haven't saw. But still, these headsets raises some suspicious issues because they are really the ones who know what's going on behind that ear piece.

And yes, I definitely agee, Canelo has been favored a lot lately when it comes to close fights that needed a judge to rule and give the outcome. There's no doubt that if Bivol didn't show a dominant performance, he's likely a nobody today who have no belts because in that fight, judges will actually favor Canelo. But Bivol made an outstanding performance which literally upsets the crowd/bookies/judges favorite and made a fight that can't be helped by the judges.

The organization should take a closer look on this, if there's a lot of doubt that already spreading regarding to that earpiece issue
then they should act right away and prevent the ref to use it.

It's still good to see a clean fight without any angle of cheating or any concern with manipulations, I get the point where judges
can ruined the outcome if the fight ended close.

That example with Bivol, and how he dominates the fight to avoid any manipulation or control of the judges those are legit.

That is if the industry can really sacrifice the referee's earpiece as it is also an important tool for them in every given fight, they should think for another method as well to minimize this practice because the uncertainties from the people will always develop regarding the fight especially if it's an important match-up. Every year, there will be a technology that will be develop so maybe the industry can benefit from it soon.
791  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 09, 2023, 12:13:08 PM
So any update regarding the injury of Kevin Durant?

I think this is a serious matter that we need to discuss because if that injury is so bad and he will be advise to miss the remaining season, the Nets will certainly not be the same team anymore. Durant and Irving were the stars that was carrying the team to where they are now, but without Durant Irving will not make this team a playoff team.

No news as of now about his condition, it's still not determined whether Kevin Durant's collision with Jimmy Butler will pose a serious injury in his leg. Hopefully not that serious because the Nets will seriously be undermanned without his presence, I know Irving and Simmons has improved a lot and more synchronized but I'm sure they will be needing Durant at most times.

Quote
“Right knee, he’ll get evaluated tomorrow and then hopefully I’ll have some more info,” Nets coach Jacque Vaughn said. “Most likely it will include imaging, just to make sure we’re good.”

I'm thinking of betting on the Denver Nuggets tomorrow with a spread of -9. What do you think? is it a good idea betting against a streaking LA Lakers. On paper, you can tell that Nuggets are very good at home and no one can stop Jokic, but can they cover that spread?

I somehow think that the Denver Nuggets will be fine tomorrow against the Lakers, the injured players are not that important in their roster unlike the Lakers where Reaves, Walker IV and AD is out while LeBron and WB is probable. As a matter of fact, I already placed a bet in favor of the Nuggets -9 for the game tomorrow. I'm quite confident enough because they will be hosting the game as well. Good luck mate!

Now, let's be some superstitious and say, if you play only when luck appears to be on your side, would you call that a good strategy?

I hate to disagree but there is really no evidence that suggests about being superstitious will somehow increase our chances if we bet in a specific day where we are feeling we will get lucky as we can't also know when will be our lucky day. But I think believing that we are lucky in that specific day will boost our confidence that will indeed help us in our gambling activities because we are getting positive vibes out of it, it may be fake or unreal because superstitious beliefs don't really boost our chances but the important thing is that the confidence it gives to us.
795  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 08, 2023, 10:26:30 PM

I don't really like what Mike Brown did back in Cleveland, he used Lebron way too much like he was a horse, and that ended horribly, as he was always exhausted. But he did learn a lot being the assistant of Coach Kerr, now we can see those changes in Sacramento Kings which is now 5th in the West.

True, Sacramento Kings are a big surprise this season, it's the same lineup but they have a better season. What we want to see now is consistency, and as long as their system works, I think they'll be in good shape in the playoffs. Getting in the playoffs might be possible for them, but winning in the playoffs is just another thing.

It's unlikely that the Kings will have an impressive performance in the playoffs. At least, I don't expect them to be able to of getting past the second round. By the way, it's worth noting that the Kings haven't reached the playoffs in the last 16 seasons. So the fact that the Kings are now in fifth place in the standings and have a good chance of reaching the playoffs is already a great achievement for both their current roster and for the Kings franchise as a whole.

I think as well too that the Kings management is not putting their roster in a hard situation where there's a pressure to reach far this season and at least play in the playoffs. The management are already happy with what they have right now because it's been a while since the Kings somehow dominated in the hardwood and giving teams some struggles before they can beat them as the roster nowadays are really hard to beat.
Just like the Jazz, nobody expected them to be this good, even the management haven't expected it because they are still in the rebuilding process where they are still figuring things out what lacks in them but it turns out that having no star besides Clarkson helps the team well.
796  Economy / Economics / Re: Every passing year seems progressively worse on: January 06, 2023, 09:04:40 PM
If you look closely you would understand as development keep growing the more we face and experience lots of changes in the world. Personally since I was born I have never experienced or witness anything like covid-19 or economic meltdown but just of few years now things has drastically changed, government aren't really helping out  coupled with the decreasing of  unemployment rate going worster every year.  What you should do is to get something doing maybe you won't feel it that much whenever you are occupied you may not come to think of how things are going on with you rather thinking of how to make progress. Every year has there phases of climate change and occurrences so one really needs to be prepared.
I think that’s how it used to be, if there are changes and developments, there will also be growing issues and problems that will continue to threat people and keeps them challenging. But of course, we should never focus on the negative phases in life but instead, learn to grow more too by being more knowledgeable and competitive so that we can find solutions to these existing world issues and live with life’s harmony again.
797  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Using Bonus Buy or Not Using Bonus Buy? on: January 06, 2023, 07:52:01 PM
I hope you realize that the casino will not put a feature that will heavily benefit the gambler. As others have said when it comes to slot games lucky is a huge factor, despite you buying a "buy bonus" it would not automatically mean that you will be in profit nor you'd have an actual advantage while gambling. all I can say about your experience is that you got lucky.
Precisely. Casinos will never give us an advantage, but it’s certainly us that is most taken advantage of. And this buy bonus is never meant to make us profitable, but to make the casino even more profitable since we are buying bonuses from them when in fact bonuses should be given free just like it’s own denotation. But OP seems blinded by that.
798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An Example of Not your Keys Not your coins on: January 06, 2023, 07:22:00 PM
Most of us don't read Terms of Service before using. It is kinda betting and taking risk for our fund.

I remember that I read a shady term of Tether company that they can reject to pay user 1 USD for 1 USDT. If you accept their terms, you can use USDT. Months ago, when I read that after the fiasco of Terra $LUNA and $UST, I was very uncertain and doubtful about Tether and their stable coin USDT.

Your news is similar, Terms of Service are very shady and with wall of texts, most of us skip reading but don't know that we can be scammed anytime.
It's true that most people are too lazy to read the terms of agreements, which contain a lot of unnecessary text in the text in order to confuse the reader more. All these conditions could be greatly reduced. In order not to get into trouble, as users of the Celsius with a user agreement, it was simply not necessary to give btc to this platform or any other. Here I agree with OP, who singled out a well-known phrase in the crypto community, which is often forgotten, but never ceases to be relevant. By handing over your keys /btc you lose all the benefits of owning a bitcoin.
This is a perfect example of not your keys, not your coins. And if you are stupid enough not to read the terms and conditions carefully, then you are putting yourself at the losing end. But we have been warn even before not to trust exchanges as they are just good for nothing and they’ll eventually steal our funds when we are too trusting. This is already a proof. Just stay off from exchanges, and manage your own coins at your own non-custodial wallet.
799  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Store your seed phrase offline on: January 06, 2023, 06:42:18 PM
I had an experience where I stored my keys in the cloud, and I lost access to the cloud. Since then I no longer store any seed and pass phrase associated with my wallet in any software or online repository. I prefer to keep my phrases in a book that I can easily keep at home. Indeed, books can be lost, but I always save with backups and this makes me feel safe.
It’s not safer anymore to trust your seed phrases online even how trusted the app is because as long as its operated online, it will always be at risk of losing or hacking, and lose it completely. Personally, I have my own record book about all my passwords and seed phrases of my important documents. Yes, it can still be a subject for stealing but all I have written in there are already having their own duplicates and I kept hodling them in my secret vault at home.

We will see, because we really don't know who is telling the truth in this case, but probably the lessons here for Tank is just to surround himself with good people and not those who wants to take advantage of him, and now he will be dragged in this court case wherein he should be enjoying his holiday and then looking for a fight against Hector Garcia first week of January, not it seems to be in jeopardy including his fight with Ryan Garcia.
These type of circumstances would definitely affect the performance of Tank if he will still pursue the fight, because he can’t be at his whole focus this time because of those said scandal. But we also know the excellent performance of Tank as seen from his previous matches, the case is if he will still be able to sustain his performance or might only end up as a defeated one because he’s mentally and emotionally bothered at the moment.
