841  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Our Dependency on Google on: December 28, 2023, 04:14:25 PM
some Alternative for Google product include:
Gsearch is total trash right now, but there are other working alternative and I would suggest visiting searchengine.party website.
Important thing to say that almost all android phones are connected to g00gle with each account, unless you are using degoogled phones.
It's irony that one of the best degoogled phones are Pixel phones that are made by g00gle, but with open source GrapheneOS this devices become much better.

There are other products that can be use for alternative for Google products, you just have to find the one that works for you better. Here is a link for a good ad blocker for Chrome and other browsers https://ublockorigin.com/
Sources :How to DeGoogle Your Life: Why You Need to Take Control of Your Privacy
Note that uBlockOrigin extension wont work anymore with chrome because of upcoming browser changes, and they already prepared Lite version.
I would suggest everyone to make a switch to Firefox, Librewolf and Tor browser.

842  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Coldcard on: December 27, 2023, 08:28:05 PM
Below are relevant specs laid out in comparison
This specs are only on virtual paper and means nothing... because Q wallet is in eternal presale reservation mod for $200, maybe until they collect enough money to actually start making them  Tongue
By the time they release it (if they ever release it), I bet they are going to us some outdated chips with flaws, so they will have to replace it with bigger Q2 version...
Things could be much different for coldcard with nvk out of the picture.
843  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Keystone 3 HW coming soon! on: December 27, 2023, 08:23:30 PM
I think the Seedsigner should still be considered as experimental software and hardware. It's created by a small team of enthusiasts.
Same like bitcoin... still experimental.
Hardware is far from experimental, it's battle tested well known Rasoberry Pi Zero that is used.

Solana, Polkadot, Toncoin are not available. But this is not such a problem as Tron support.
You can't expect them to run all shitcoin nodes out there.
I think new Trezor 3 Safe added support for solana, but I prefer using bitcoin only firmware.

Trezor T  does have a higher rating of 4.3 as compared with Keystone's 3.4 here
I would not blindly trust any ratings, but I did heard that Keystone wallet have very bad customer support, I think this is typical for most products based in China.
844  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: alternative to coinomi (android) on: December 27, 2023, 08:17:29 PM
Just did a test with my install of Coinomi and getting the red dot on Dash. Will they fix it....who knows.
There is nobody to run the nodes for all coins anymore, and we can't fork Coinomi wallet because it's not open source anymore.
Few alternative options are available and I mentioned them before, but they are far from perfect.
845  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are your experiences with NGRAVE wallet? on: December 27, 2023, 07:55:33 PM
He said that the seed phrase generator is unique. And that the closed source chip is coming at some point.
I chose this because I can store multiple altcoins on it and I appreciated customer support. It also says they hold the highest security level certificate, which I assumed to be genuine because of the price tag.
You mean open source chip right?
That doesn't mean anything for you because your devices is closed source, and you would need to physically remove and replace chip, that is almost impossible to work without breaking something.

I already have a Ledger nano x and then the scandal came out. Now it looks like I have to dump this one too
You can do whatever you want, don't listen to me and do some actual research before buying hardware wallets.

Can anyone explain to me why an air gapped wallet with the highest security certificate is not safe?
This is just a number and it means nothing to you.
Ledger and other hardware wallets also have similar security certificate level.
846  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I got a new hardware wallet to store my BTC, but there is a catch. on: December 26, 2023, 05:41:40 PM
In my country, almost everyone believe that China is a country where fake items and goods are been manufactured and sell to other countries, some believe that nothing good is made out of China, if it's from China it means it's bad.
Most of the things they make is junk with short lifetime and that is a fact, but they also make iPhones and everything else because they have cheap labor force and they probably use prisoners for this.
Keystone is not a bad hardware wallet, but I don't like their new Keystone 3 model with integrated battery.
They promised to release Bitcoin only wallet around bitcoin halving so let's see what they have to offer.

Ledger isn't manufactured in China
Ledger is totally coming from China, they only assemble it in France, it's easy to confirm this on packaging.

Currently it's not completely open source.

847  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is Trezor wallets safe on: December 26, 2023, 05:32:00 PM
If OP has a decent stash in alts,  $79 plus around the same sum for moderate Android +10 ( if he don't have it already) is not a price for the  fortress-grade  security. If he has Android +10 device that could be the golden opportunity to acquire the new one for everyday routine and use old one to store their precious stash.
By very definition we already know that old Android devices are not safe.
No magical software can make this devices safe again by simply installing new universal software sponsored by some shitcoin companies like tezos.
For less money I can already buy or make my own Jade wallet, Trezor, Krux, Seedsigner, Satochip, Onekey and Keystone is not much expensive.
Most of this devices can store USDT or L-USDT (except Krux and Seedsigner).
848  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 49 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: December 26, 2023, 05:22:51 PM
Thanks for the idea. Could you give me more info so I can analyze it? Those websites you mention, for example. I am trying to focus on self-custody, so I want to be sure those additions are a good idea or not.
This would be more like a way to spend Bitcoin on websites and services where Bitcoin is not accepted directly.
For example of gift cards there are websites like thebitcoincompany.com, bitrefill.com and maybe few others, that can be used to purchase this cards without kyc.
As for debit cards there are both kyc and no-kyc, virtual and physical, some of them are issues by centralized exchanges or other by companies.

Few examples I found in bitcointalk forum:

849  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Pseudo(?) self-custodial LN wallets on: December 26, 2023, 05:11:13 PM
I was playing with BitMask wallet recently and I didn't like it, but I never tested other wallets you mentioned here.

Some LN wallets pretend to be self-custodial, but there is no option for users to force-close their channels there. So users have to rely on LSPs. If the LSP goes offline, users cannot access their money, and, in the worst scenario, they can completely loose it.
Do you know if Breeze wallet falls into this category or not?
They claim that non-custodial Lightning node is running on mobile devices after installing Breeze app, but there is also a warning that you may loose funds when you first start the app, because they are in beta stage.

850  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Opinions on Phoenix Wallet? on: December 26, 2023, 05:03:39 PM
I get that people are going to be tipping more with their phones, but why are the vast majority of lightning wallets either mobile apps or browser extensions?
There is a difference if you are you talking about custodial or non-custodial LN wallets.
I know only one or two desktop wallets that supports Lightning Network, but developers are probably thinking that most people would more likely spend LN in coffee shops and similar places using their phones.
851  Other / Meta / Re: 2FA added on: December 26, 2023, 04:28:30 PM
So no one knows the phone with the auth app. it never leaves my house.
For 2FA you can use any old phone even without SIM card inside, you are not connecting 2FA with any phone number at all.
Add additional 2FA protection for your email, and as long as you are using open source apps like Aegis you should be fine.
852  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are some altcoins with low transaction fees that I can use to buy stuff? on: December 26, 2023, 04:06:13 PM
I want to spend some crypto on some online purchases but bitcoin fees are way too high right now for that. I see that a lot of other coins are accepted on various sites, which ones have lowest transaction fees?
It doesn't make sense to exchange Bitcoin for shitcoin because you still have to pay high fees for that transactions, unless you already have coins on centralized exchange, and I don't recommend that.
Lightning Network is most likely accepted, it is very fast and fees are minimal, but you already need to have LN coins ready before fees get high.
If you don't have any other option just use any accepted shitcoin with lowest fees, maybe some stable coin.
I dont't recommend holding any shitcoins long term.
853  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Finally I listened, proudly a hardware wallet owner on: December 26, 2023, 03:57:53 PM
I have few questions still, I want to know if connecting software wallet to your hardware wallet gives it the security as intended? If I start using software wallet on my hardware wallet does it add more to it's security? Or it's a bad idea?
You can't install any software wallet on your device, you can only connect them for transaction and address confirmation.
It's impossible to use your device without any software wallet.

What other things I need to look out for using my keynote hardware wallet?
What the heck is keynote hardware wallet?
Maybe you mean Keystone Pro 3  or something else??

As for the firmware update, I have two options, one through SD card and the second through USB connection, which one do you think is better and safer upgrade way?
USB firmware update is faster, with SD card it is slower but more secure because there is no internet connection.
854  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are your experiences with NGRAVE wallet? on: December 26, 2023, 03:51:26 PM
Now I've been advised to either go for coldcard or NGRAVE.
It was a close decision but I've chosen Ngrave because of the customer service (they are located in my country) and the fact that other coins than BTC can be held on it.
I would not waste money on both of those hardware wallets.
Ngrave is way to expensive, it is closed source device and it is not offering anything special in terms of security and safety.
Coldcard is also not open source, but source avaialble, and it is owned and operated by mentally ill hater called nvk, who keep retiring old wallet versions because they are unsafe for usage.

I've paid almost 500€ for it (graphene included), which may be overkill for a 0.3 BTC account. But I plan to grow my portfolio throughout the years and I want maximum security. Are there any things I have to watch out for?
To late now to ask questions like this when you already spent your money  Tongue
855  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2FA now available in your forum settings!! on: December 25, 2023, 09:16:48 PM
Hey I have not seen it mentioned here yet, BUT..> FINALLY!!!!
It's great to finally have 2FA in bitcointalk but better read what theymos said... if your email address is compromised attackers can bypass and disable 2FA in your forum account.
Better make sure you have good protection for email that is connected with bitcointalk, maybe with additional 2FA.

If you use the forgotten-password function, then there's an option to remove the 2FA. So 2FA does not provide any protection in case of a compromised email.
856  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Krux DIY Hardware Wallet on: December 25, 2023, 09:00:07 PM
In Third Wave of Bitcoin Grants there was a good news for Krux wallet, that is one of the ten projects who received grants from OpenSats!
Other Bitcoin projects that received grants are Clams, Fully Noded, Validating Lightning Signer, Fedimint Lightning Gateway, Pickhardt Payments plugin for Core-Lightning, BitBanana, Crack the Orange, Bitcoin Core App and Vexl.

Quote
Krux is a free and open-source firmware that enables anyone to build their own Bitcoin signing device via off-the-shelf parts. It runs on Kendryte K210 Risk-V-based devices such as the M5StickV and Maix Amigo, converting them into air-gapped devices that can sign transactions for single and multisig wallets. Krux can also sign messages and has easy-to-use tools to help with the creation and loading of wallet backups.

Users can choose to buy a ready-to-use device—where all they need is to flash the firmware—or make a DIY version themselves. Krux can also run, mainly for educational purposes, on PCs and Android devices.

In other news related with Krux.
For people who don't know how to flash device and install firmware manually, not there is Krux installer first stable version 0.0.1:

857  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Coldcard on: December 25, 2023, 08:40:59 PM
But you can get your Mk 4 in a bunch of different colors. Because you need that......
Yeah, I guess it's colorful holiday season for coldcard, and nvk is getting active again spreading hate and false information on social media.
Would you even buy that coldcard kingkongQ device if available?
I know I wouldn't.

I hope nvk feels safe and secure in his mental asylum eco chamber.  Tongue
Luckily I can still follow whatever I want using nitter  Wink

858  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 🔥Satodime🔥 NFC bearer cold wallet with mobile app (iOS & Android) on: December 25, 2023, 08:35:28 PM
Satochip is proud to release the new version of its mobile app
I think you really need to have some users rating and writing short review feedback on stores for Satodime app, and it's the same thing for Satochip 2FA app.
First time wanted to install I was not sure if this is genuine or fake app made by someone else.
Adding easy to find links on website would also help.
859  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Safe 3 New Hardware Wallet on: December 25, 2023, 08:19:28 PM
It seems I am unlucky. I pre-ordered Trezor Safe-3, and they delivered it through UPS. I have checked the tracking number, which has marked delivered but I haven't received anything yet.
This must be ''magic'' of delivery services... only in very rear cases they work like swiss clocks.  Tongue
I don't understand how UPS can report something to be delivered if it is not, but your issue could be related with holiday season or with your specific location.
There are few people I know who ordered Trezor 3 and they received it fairly quickly, after waiting a bit longer for package to be sent by Trezor.
860  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is Trezor wallets safe on: December 25, 2023, 08:09:27 PM
As for Trezor safe 3, its secure element is close source. Just take note of that.
Trezor 3 Safe is actually using Infineon OPTIGA Trust M secure element and you can easily find it's code on github for inspection:
https://github.com/Infineon/optiga-trust-m

in the moment you connect to internet im using now Electrum on airgaped laptop and a watch only wallet on my online computer
but the problem is that electrum is btc only wallet when i want to store USDTe
You can also use L-USDT and L-BTC on Green Wallet, that is built on Liquid Network.

i dont really like metamask i have seen many peoples get hacked when they linking their trezor with metamask
Trezor is safe if you use it correctly.
If you don't know what you are doing than you can make even perfectly safe device into unsafe.
I would not use stupid metamask wallet, but Trezor Suite works just fine for what you are looking for.

Then your choice should be AirGap Knox .
To expensive for just a code that don't even support all android devices.
