881  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Yet another protest "Save Our Savers" - Inflation is destroying your savings. on: August 03, 2014, 02:08:25 PM
That's the method I found my way to Bitcoin. This is a market of BILLIONS of people just waiting to be introduced (anyone tired of the current banking system).  Give the people an option to tell banks to go fuck themselves, they WILL take it.

I think in either way bitcoin will gain more popularity, no matter what banking systems do, because to use creditcard systems for online payments is 1980s technology. It's like watching black and white television when there's color tv  Smiley

But you are right, the continuing inflation will cause people to invest their savings in other things, be it bitcoin or something else.
882  Other / Politics & Society / Re: EU's right to be forgotten: Guardian articles have been hidden by Google on: August 03, 2014, 02:03:04 PM
fucking shit, didn't the UK start to crackdown on internet freedom.. and this is the result? now that we will soon be handing over the internet to the big ISPs, we're totally fucked. the internet in the US might be censored one day.

Yes, the UK government is attempting to create their own internet in which for example, bitcoin is forbidden. It's easy to bypass these filter, but it demonstrates that the government isn't always on the side of the people - just plain self interest, supported by some business. And from a capitalist perspective, we are the customers so there shouldn't be any censorship.

Google has been censoring search results for a long long time. Their goal was never to make the world more free, but to collect the worlds information and show you advertisements.
883  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Breaking News. Russia is busted with delivery of weapons to Ukraine. on: August 03, 2014, 01:59:27 PM
I will ask the OP directly: if the rebels controlling Lugansk asked for your assistance, for example by providing food packages so that they don't go hungry while shooting at the Ukrainians, would you help them?

Yes or no?

The rebels are Ukrainians too, they are born there; it's a civil war supported by foreign countries. I don't think there will be peace any time soon, especially with Nazis being supported.
884  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Climatic weapon in action. on: August 03, 2014, 01:11:00 AM
Over 60 years ago the Nazis already tried to use nature as a weapon, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are weapons like 'tsunami' now.
If even people experimented with them, the media would perceive them as a 'natural disaster'.
885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tatsuaki Okamoto = Satoshi Nakamoto? on: August 03, 2014, 01:04:34 AM
Looking for him is really a waste of time.  Do something better than searching for a ghost with you most valuable commodity (time).

This. He obviously took strong measures to be anonymous and at this point he has no more control over Bitcoin now than you and me.
886  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 1 BTC on: August 02, 2014, 12:03:43 PM
How many people can I help with 1 Bitcoin? In a meaningful way. I will give 0.05 to the first person with the most well thought out plan.

Many people, you could help the people for 0 BTC .. just time and energy Smiley
You can send people of the world some BTC, but quality of life is not always correlated with that.

Poroshenko: Ukraine not to give up on Crimea
http://en.itar-tass.com/world/743288

They still want a war with Russia.

Quote
“Crimea is not for sale,” Ukrainian President said

 Grin Grin Grin

No one was buying it. But Poroshenko, being an oligarch clearly forgets that the land is inhabited by people - Donbass and mass extermination of residents there being the case in point.

He clearly has self interests here, but I wonder what's going to do now.. start a war with Russia? I don't think the Ukraine would survive that.
888  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New World Order on: August 02, 2014, 10:35:21 AM
How old is your cousin? but as Daniel91 said, it's not possible to explain Bitcoin without using reason.. if any basic word describes it, I think it's freedom.
889  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Freedom of press in Ukraine - not on: August 02, 2014, 10:32:56 AM
This is really bad news, we've seen for a long time that the freedom of the press is under attack. After all, Julian Assange is still stuck in an embassy.
I think this clearly indicates there's some guys in the west making big money from this war.
890  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-31] CT: Bitcoin's "Political Neutrality is a Myth" Amir Taaki interview on: August 02, 2014, 01:08:47 AM
I'm 50/50 on Amir. I think he's getting too consumed by his own anarchist ego.

I agree with this. I think he's got a bit of a one track mind when it comes to bitcoin and he's not seeing the bigger picture. I think he soley wants bitcoin to fuck the government and bankers over, and whilst yes bitcoin can be used for that its not its only purpose.

I think in general he wants more freedom. Technology can be very powerful as many of us have probably experienced here.  I mean, some of the older amongst us may have experienced a time without the world wide web.. technology can empower people.
891  Other / Off-topic / Re: [2014-08-01] Tor Confirms Attack May Have Deanonymized Users on: August 02, 2014, 12:23:47 AM
Only fully decentralised software and networks will keep you anonymous anything that passes through somebodies server can be hacked or taken out.

Right, using a decentralized network there would be some more chance of anonymity. I think it's possible to create protocols in which the users are completely anonymous - given that there are enough nodes on the network.
892  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-01] ria.ru RUSSIA TO BAN BITCOIN on: August 02, 2014, 12:17:15 AM
No, this is the same news as China ban bitcoin for 1000th time  Cheesy
Russians want BTC.. the whole world wants BTC, it's just government officials who sometimes don't like it.

Shocking images show corpses of illegal immigrants left to die after border crossings

Rancher shares grotesque photos with MailOnline, saying Obama bears the blame for a rising death toll among illegal immigrants

Volunteer patrol network in south Texas has found 259 bodies in one county alone, maybe 20 percent of the actual body count

Border Patrol source concedes the agency has no idea how many are perishing between the border and official government checkpoints

Filmmaker says he warned Congress in 2007 that children were becoming drug cartels' newest pawns on the border

This is a very serious issue, and the solution is not to build a "Berlin Wall" in the States, as has been done now.

It's really fascinating to see how average Americans are fun of weapons and like to play rule of sheriff like in the movie.
But, doesn't matter how much they are trying, it seems they can't stop this desperate people from Mexico to enter in USA in the search for better life.

I think the situation in Mexico needs to improve, the people wouldn't come then.  I mean, we put a production line all the way in China, why not in Mexico? It would save the State a lot of costs.
894  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The members of this forum have an opportunity to change the world on: August 01, 2014, 08:17:04 PM
I'm being philosophical here, but out of all the bitcoins in existence, I would say 15% or more are held by members of this forum.

Imagine this, Bitcoin 5-10 years down the road is worth $50,000 a piece.

If this happens, and members of this forum pledge 5-10% of their bitcoins for humanitarian efforts, we can change the world.

Just doing some numbers, 15% of 13 million is 1,950,000. This is how many bitcoins the members of this forum have.

5% of 1,950,000 is 97,500.

100,000 bitcoins at 50,000 is worth 5 billion dollars.

You can change the planet with $5 billion dollars. It's amazing.

With all the talk about Bitcoin stopping wars, etc. There is so much opportunity for humanity to thrive off of this wealth transfer.

If Bitcoin ever hits $50,000, I am pledging 5% or more to humanitarian efforts.

Yes, I think you can change things with Bitcoin - but it's not all powerful. How would you stop wars with Bitcoin? I cannot really imagine that.. but I can imagine a global economy, where you can buy anything you want, and it takes less than 10 minutes to pay for it  Smiley

895  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Would faucets be worth it if you thought Bitcoin will reach $1-10 million? on: August 01, 2014, 02:31:21 PM
I think to have bitcoin would be good in whatever way you get it, but you may get bitcoins much faster by working or other methods. I mean, it's not like facuets takes all of your time either -  it's just a really slow method. you are selling your time for say 0.0001 BTC per day, which would be about 0.003 BTC per month. In a year you would get 0.036 BTC from a faucet. Given that bitcoin price would be at $1 million, this would be a lot of money- but I think the bitcoin price will go to 10.000$ or 100.000$, not 1 million.

Good to see demonstrations, the mas surveillance program is beyond madness. As Snowden said, many cases in which this data is used are actually abuses. Sadly many NSA officers go by the saying 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil'. I suggest all of you to use encryption for your data.

The price of bitcoin has continued to slide, continuing a downward trend that began almost two weeks ago. In that time, the value of a single bitcoin has fallen by almost $50 (£30).
astrocoin bitcoin

Most other major cryptocurrencies also saw their prices drop over the last 24 hours, with litecoin, peercoin, dogecoin and namecoin all slipping by between 2% and 7%. Only darkcoin achieved any positive movement as the privacy-focused altcon enjoyed a brief respite from a week-long period of steadily tumbling prices.

I think people are going on holidays these days, so the price will drop. I expect after the holidays, the price will continue to rise. 2 weeks is a very short period, the price has risen from 405$ two months ago to 592$.

I do not think the altcoin prices are related. Litecoin price has been dropping ever since it reached 40$ per coin and had been stuck at $8 for a long time. It's now reaching 6$
898  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-01] The Bitcoin Crowd Reaches Out to the Gold Bugs on: August 01, 2014, 10:20:48 AM
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-07-30/ripple-and-anthem-vault-combine-gold-with-bitcoin-style-currency

On the spectrum of currency ideologues, gold bugs and Bitcoin enthusiasts occupy equal but opposite positions. They’re both suspicious that governments are going to meddle around with normal money so much that it becomes useless—it’s just that one group thinks math is the antidote and the other believes in hoarding metal bars.

Governments are already meddling around with normal money, inflation keeps getting stronger. I do not think normal money will be useless soon, but the prices will rise and the money will have value.  Have a look at this graph:
http://inflationdata.com/Inflation/images/charts/Inflation_Trends/cumulative_inflation.jpg
The bitcoin price on the other hand will keep rising because it's deflationary.
899  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin be around in 5 years? If so, what's its price? on: August 01, 2014, 10:09:25 AM
Do you think Bitcoin will be around in 5 years?

Yes

If so, how much do you think it's value will be?

$50,000-$100,000

Would you buy some now, if you couldn't use it for 5 years?

Yes

Agreed on all of these, with a small exception to the ceiling on the value.  I've been way too low on "realistic" medium-term gains for BTC throughout its history until now.  If BTC is still around in 2019, 6 figures seems like a valid possibility - going above that $100k potentially.

I'm sure bitcoin will be around in 5 years, I do not think the bitcoin business will simply stop Smiley . I think we're still early adaptors, there are still many people I speak to who have never heard of bitcoin. For this reason, the marketprice $50,000-$100,000 does not seem unreasonable.

900  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are the best bitcoin faucets? on: August 01, 2014, 10:04:22 AM
It's been discussed here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=677442.0

In my opinion, there are only 2 faucets that are good enough and pay better than others, lucky chekin and freebitcoin

Even for the best one (freebitco.in), you can only get a few cents a day.
So unless you can get lots of ref on the faucets, it is not really a good idea to use them.

Yes, by default you get 0.00000337 BTC an hour, so if you type those captchas for 16 hours you get 0.00005392 BTC.  This is 0.03$ at the current market price. Other faucets seem to be paying even less. There are other ways to earn bitcoin, which are faster - have a look in the services section.
