1921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Willy Report...What do you guys make of it? on: May 26, 2014, 05:36:39 AM
(re-post from another thread)

His final conclusion is probably wrong.
The BTC economy is growing very fast in many parts of the world. Therefore, it is possible to have huge price gains again, and this time they will be "real".

at what level is it "real"? most of the last bull run was inspired by speculation... at what level is speculation healthy, and and what level is utility healthy? doesn't seem like there's enough infrastructure to push bitcoin up right now.. it's still speculation i think.

http://coinmap.org shows what is "real". The Bitcoin ecosystem and infrastructure is booming throughout much of the world.
This isn't 2012 anymore...Welcome to the Brave New World.  Smiley

Lots of mom and pop businesses, hipster cafes and tech specialists, but in reality bitcoin transaction numbers are only up 2x compared to 2 years ago

yeah was gonna say the same.. just because there are 3 times the amount of vendors, does not mean that bitcoin is changing hands 3x more. it's not even near mainstream yet. a lot of people know about it, but only few have some coins. of the few that have coins, even a smaller portion actually uses it.
1922  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-23] Bitcoin Is Boring, Which Means It Might Finally Be Useful on: May 26, 2014, 05:35:20 AM
These people just don't realize the true worth of bitcoins, it might succes not because it's boring -and can't pinpoint what's boring about it anyway- but because it provides a reasonable way to transfer money.

not even speaking about bitcoin's worth, it's still very interesting because it is the exact opposite of what a known quantity. there has been nothing similar to bitcoin in the history of mankind. not knowing what the future holds is quite interesting to me.
1923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Feels like I am screaming "get off the beach" before a tsunami but no one cares on: May 26, 2014, 05:32:09 AM
interesting thing to me is that people with higher IQ tend to be more cynical/depressed. if you're so absolutely smart, then why do you choose to make yourself miserable?

My theory is that depression is actually the rational response to the world we live in. Which is not good because left untreated, it can be deadly. Your mistake is assuming that depression is a choice people make. Depression causes chemical changes in the body (mainly involving Serotonin) that makes you feel like not doing anything.

there is more than one type of depression. some people are physiologically disposed to being depressed, others are depressed because they bring it upon themselves. you can't blame all depression on genetics.

Some people are depressed because they left too many coins in mtgox.

while i kinda do feel bad for those people, they knew better than to mess with mtgox. anybody and everybody who was informed knew mtgox had some seedy shit going down.

yeah in previous seasons they aired on memorial day sunday.. and the numbers didn't turn out so well so they decided to take the break.

1927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you had any problems with large Bitcoin cashouts? on: May 26, 2014, 03:32:03 AM
consider spending it in the form of gift cards, selling to friends, or localbitcoins.. less of a headache that way. if it were me, i'd keep it at least until the end of the year. but that's just me.. i like to save.
1928  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-23] Bitcoin Is Boring, Which Means It Might Finally Be Useful on: May 26, 2014, 01:49:36 AM
bitcoin is anything but boring.. something that volatile and nascent is bound to provide a exhilarating experience. it may have slowed down recently, but the same thing happened before last year's run-up.
1929  Other / Off-topic / Re: Whats going on in america? on: May 26, 2014, 01:17:08 AM
What you don't know cannot hurt you... live by that and you will have peace.

it's the opposite... what you don't know can hurt you. ignorance is not a good thing. if you don't know what's going on, then you're just a pawn.
1930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin set to overtake PayPal in 2014 on: May 26, 2014, 01:10:11 AM
btw does anyone know what paypal does with your funds when it's frozen? do they just take it for themselves and pocket it or where does it go?
1931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Families Boycotting Overstock Due to Them Accepting Bitcoin on: May 26, 2014, 01:00:44 AM
oh lord, more entertainment and drama. allegations are good if they can be backed up by evidence.. just makes me think PG has tried to dig on on plimpo.
1932  Other / Off-topic / Re: What social network do you use most? on: May 26, 2014, 12:34:01 AM
Poor myspace, pioneered social networking but got left behind Sad

if i remember correctly, friendster was around before myspace's time.. also xanga was popular in the early 2000's.
1933  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 25, 2014, 11:16:36 PM
We will test 1300 and above soon.

I cannot see it happening.

If we finish the year anywhere near 1000, it will be an epic fight back and crush all the bears along the way.

IMO, we are going to trade the envelope for 2 months with occasional "moon shot" and "double digits here we come" noise.

maybe that's the case, but anything could happen.. especially if some big companies like ebay/paypal/newegg jump into the game. new ETFs and big time players jumping into the game could really catapult everything.
1934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Glenn Beck calls bitcoin Edison's light bulb! on: May 25, 2014, 11:10:51 PM
This is great promotion, but it was cringe worthy how under informed they were about Bitcoin

it's not really surprising.. this is glenn beck's base here. you don't really need accurate information. all you need is for him to sell an idea.
1935  Other / Off-topic / Re: What social network do you use most? on: May 25, 2014, 11:07:47 PM
is there really a use for twitter outside of following your celebrities? i guess not so famous people want to become famous, so they use it.. but i see no point in what twitter provides.
1936  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin ever reach $1000 dollars again? on: May 25, 2014, 11:05:53 PM
i too think we might see it before the end of summer. seems like there's a full load of steam piling up right now, and we're just about ready to explode once again.
1937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal could benefit greatly from providing a wallet service on: May 25, 2014, 11:00:28 PM
if paypal started some sort of business model that incorporates bitcoin, how many here would even use them? i know i for one wouldn't.. it's fucking paypal after all. maybe i'm wrong, but i don't think paypal could pull it off.
1938  Other / Off-topic / Re: Help with a faulty laptop on: May 25, 2014, 10:55:05 PM
If it's not the power supply/adapter, then it must be fried. If you had any sort of energy or electricity when you touched the inner part of the screen, it can damage all other components of the computer.

The light on the charger still works. You sure this is true about shorting everything else? Hopefully it's just the battery.

I think it is time to buy a new laptop. With the money you earn from signature, I think it would take you less than a week of posting.  Smiley

More like a month of posting, although maybe a fortnight with these new upcoming rates  Cheesy.

probably not the matter.. you could just remove it and plug the charger in to see.
1939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All aboard! Who have you convinced to step on the BTC Train? on: May 25, 2014, 09:49:43 PM
I've tried to convince my family getting into bitcoin about a year back. Didn't work out though.

i didn't try convincing anyone in my family, but instead i just brought it up and they all didn't seem very receptive about it. my uncle is still bearish on it, even though it was $15 when i told him about it.. and now it's over $500.

it's not 100% scientific, but you could just go to the off-topic subforum and create a poll.
