1841  Other / Off-topic / Re: Creating fake sig campaign to increase competition? on: May 29, 2014, 12:53:11 AM
What if one were to create a fake sig campaign to increase competition and make it to where other sig campaigns would raise their price per post... would it work?

after not paying for the first period, people will know that it's bullshit. so no, it doesn't affect anything.
1842  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fidel Castro lived like a king in Cuba, book claims on: May 28, 2014, 08:39:20 PM
Wow...a lot of pro-socialists lately.

Doesn't Dogecoin have its own forum?

you sir, sound like an ancap extremist. not everyone has to say things that you agree with.. it doesn't make you a bad guy to concede that castro did some good things. i don't know if anyone here is calling him a saint, they are just saying he has done some good.

while i'm not a big supporter of socialism, i don't think anarcho-capitalism is any better.
1843  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC to break $2,000 mark by Christmas say Experts on: May 28, 2014, 08:32:50 PM
"Say Experts"  Huh What experts? There are none, IMO. Honestly, anyone who calls themselves an expert on bitcoin prices is not to be trusted. They are just guessing like everyone else.

I'm with Lauri Anderson on the subject of experts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yVBRDNnt1o

if they say they are experts, then they are experts. because they are experts.

this reminds me how you can meet a stranger for the first time, and he'll say "trust me." right, i'll just trust some random stranger on the internet or someone i've never met   Huh
1844  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US trains Syrian rebels in Qatar on: May 28, 2014, 08:28:28 PM
What happened in Afghanistan is going to be repeated in Syria.

True its only a matter of time.

i don't know what's going on in syria anymore either.. our news/media outlets don't really do a good job keeping up with it. probably because they want to cover the things that people truly care about, like what new hairstyle jennifer lawrence has.

Thats why i stick with RT dont expect cnn or bbc to post anything about the syrian war.

these days, i don't even have CNN or any news network anymore. i get my news mainly from the daily show and reddit.. it's much more honest news that is interested in the important world events.
1845  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Events that changed the world... on: May 28, 2014, 08:25:18 PM
The power shift from Britain to the United States.
This has changed the world's technology and ideas.

what, when did this happen? the U.S. was not the world power that it is today.. at least until world war 2, where they profited the most. i think that's when the U.S. currency become the world standard.. and fractional reserve banking started around this time as well.
1846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on-the-street today on: May 28, 2014, 08:22:16 PM
with these kind of people, what can you do with them? pretty much nothing. if someone is going to take a stance without the proper information, then there is no logic that you can provide to convince them of anything. his mind is already made; someone close to him says something is bad, so it is bad.

I guess you are referring to the OP, and you nailed it wrt the guy's posture.

In my case I stopped being interested in advocacy (in the case of 99% of the population at least) back in late 2011.  I just don't see it as something which most people can handle.  This has more to do with the difficulty that most people have with generic data security than it has to do with Bitcoin.  A lesser reason for my attitude is because I felt then and to a lesser extent still feel that Bitcoin is relatively risky from a systemic point of view.

I have advocated Bitcoin to a very select group of people and it happened to have worked out very well for most of them.  It didn't have to have worked out that way, and it was unpredictable at the time of my advocacy.

Although I am not active in advocacy, I'm thankful to those who are.  Especially when the target is VC types who have lots of money to pump into Bitcoin.  I'm delighted to put some of that money into my pocket and plan to actively milk that cow for as long as possible and as effectively as I can manage.

In the case of the OP, my main interest was to antagonize the guy in retribution for his being a jackass in a general sense.

yeah, it's a losing battle that i am not interested in. i would still recommend it to someone who is open-minded to it, but otherwise i just keep my mouth shut when someone brings up faulty logic for why bitcoin is a scam. some criticism is merited, but most aren't.. because people are just entrenched in their old ways of thinking. after all, there is a reason why popular opinion is what it is: because it's easy and doesn't require thinking outside of the box.
1847  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Inclusive Capitalism on: May 28, 2014, 07:52:39 PM
People say capitalism is broke, but we don't have free market capitalism anymore.

In a capitalism system we'd have free market banks and money, instead of crony central banks and central planners.

Govt is broke, NOT capitalism.

bankers and wealthy people will argue that the free market decided that it wanted to hand all the power over to them.. maybe not as direct, but still. they have lobbied for deregulation to make the playing ground uneven in their favor.

i'm thinking your laptop is doomed to turtle-like speeds since you're running on an atom CPU.. so even if u have ubuntu, you probably won't be able to stream the higher res videos since it's a hardware limitation.

i am not aiming for a higher res video what i need is to change its OS because its too slow even if its restaring there is no problem with browsing because its fast but only the reloading is the problem like when you shut it down or restart it i only want it to have a good booting system which is not too slow i dont need it anyway but i will give it to my brother so he can have a netbook for his school

well, in that case, you don't need to install linux.. just re-install an OEM version of windows. it's really easy since your key is already in the bios, you just put the disk or flash drive in and install. if you want it to boot really fast, consider getting a cheap SSD drive.. it'll cut down your load time in windows 7 significantly.

well maybe i will try to explore this thing first
and also the first thing that popped up to my mind is to restore it back ti its original setting but the damn recovery area is missing
and now im searching its OEM on every folder

as previously mentioned, any OEM copy of windows 7 works. you can download it via a bit torrent website (without key), and i believe it would still be legal, since you are using your laptop's key. hell, you don't even need to burn it onto a DVD.. just install it into your flash drive.

just make sure that you download the same version of windows 7 and an OEM copy, not retail.
1849  Other / Off-topic / Re: TV Series Recommendations... on: May 28, 2014, 07:38:57 PM
i like fargo and all, but it just feels like something is missing.. some sort of charm that the cohen kind of work has. i just kind of wish some of the characters were mor quirky. malvo is a good character, but it feels to me that he is missing a depth to the character. we see him menacing around and harassing people, but what is his ethos? what does the show say about what his values are?

Ah, I forgot to check that out. Will get caught up shortly. Were the Coen brothers involved in the show? I didn't have the highest hopes, but it's nice to find something new to watch. Wasn't sure if this was just a mini series or a regular series either.

yeah, they are executive producers. it's just a 1 season series. the show definitely has a cohen brothers feel, but compared to their other works, it feels like something is missing.

reddit is like the wal-mart of internet forums.. there are so many people there, and everything is crowdsourced, so it's kind of a one stop shop for everything and anything.

you know, as great as our heroes are.. it's kind of shocking when you find out more about their dark side. ghandi, MLK, and many other figures throughout history have had a seedy point in their life.

though einstein isn't my political figure/hero, he was very political in nature. the people here would hate him though, since he fought for a "world government."
1855  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Events that changed the world... on: May 28, 2014, 07:19:20 PM
at least in more recent times, i'd say in 1998 when congress removed the glass-steagall act. it opened the doors for bankers and wallstreeters to exploit our economy. bill clinton had a big role in this.. too bad the republicans can't really go after him on this, since they are in bed with the bankers.

the video won't load for me for whatever reason.. this is the UCSB kid right? he was a kook, so no way to rationalize what he did.

1859  Other / Off-topic / Re: Well I was going to start a campaign to get me home to my grandmother on: May 28, 2014, 07:37:56 AM
you live in arkansas? what is the otc bitcoin market like there? i mean to say -- if you were able to garner donations to the effect of $200 (in bitcoins), would you be able to sell them for cash where you are? i am in a major city, and sometimes it seems difficult to sell coins for cash. (other times -- like in a raging bull market, my phone is ringing off the hook)

I honestly don't know, I've only been down here 7 months helping my mother out around the house and what not. I haven't had a chance to look around. The city i'm in right now is complete devoid of any entertainment value so I doubt any of them know what a bitcoin is.

actually, i suppose you could use localbitcoins.com to make an online bank transfer or other similar method that wouldn't limit you to the arkansas area. at current rates, you'd need about .35 bitcoins for $200.

Yeah, but honestly at this point everyone thinks I'm making this up as if I'm just magically pulling out 3 sick relatives out of thin air and it's some pretend sob story. I don't have any assets, I'm sorry this is the worst post I think I've ever made. I don't want to talk about it anymore because it's making me angry, why are people so skeptical about things like this? This is a legit request that I was going to make, I even made a blogspot for few weeks ago *before* I knew the timeframe of my grandmother. I just knew she had liver cancer, and that she was going to live 2 or 3 more years tops. Then I get a text from my aunt saying 2 months, and then it's been bumped up to 6-8.

The worst part about this? Is nobody is telling my grandmother about it at all. Nobody wants to tell her she's only going to live that much longer. Even though she'll be 89 in July they are afraid she'll end it now. She has a terminal illness and doesn't know her own lifespan.

Anyways, I don't know what else I can do to make this sound legit.

people are always going to be skeptical.. especially the ones on this forum. they are quick to call someone a troll or scammer without vetting. they probably base their opinion on the past, since there are so many scammers or trolls. i think it's foolish to come to a conclusion without sufficient evidence, but they think it's smart.

"I need money for a bus ticket" is the oldest scam in the book.

Don't believe the sob story, the guy just revived some forgotten Bitcointalk account to try to make himself more authentic.

maybe you're right, but you don't provide any evidence to back your point. i wouldn't believe him enough to give him the money though, especially since i'm not even close to wealthy.

he even made a blogspot/site about it http://gramwithcancerhelp.blogspot.com/

if he's some guy casually dicking around, i don't think he'd put that effort out.

so how do people around here feel about this? i know most here hate the government's involvement in wars.. but what if the assad is just a really bad dude who doesn't care for human life?
