1861  Other / Off-topic / Re: Well I was going to start a campaign to get me home to my grandmother on: May 28, 2014, 07:15:54 AM
you live in arkansas? what is the otc bitcoin market like there? i mean to say -- if you were able to garner donations to the effect of $200 (in bitcoins), would you be able to sell them for cash where you are? i am in a major city, and sometimes it seems difficult to sell coins for cash. (other times -- like in a raging bull market, my phone is ringing off the hook)

I honestly don't know, I've only been down here 7 months helping my mother out around the house and what not. I haven't had a chance to look around. The city i'm in right now is complete devoid of any entertainment value so I doubt any of them know what a bitcoin is.

actually, i suppose you could use localbitcoins.com to make an online bank transfer or other similar method that wouldn't limit you to the arkansas area. at current rates, you'd need about .35 bitcoins for $200.

Yeah, but honestly at this point everyone thinks I'm making this up as if I'm just magically pulling out 3 sick relatives out of thin air and it's some pretend sob story. I don't have any assets, I'm sorry this is the worst post I think I've ever made. I don't want to talk about it anymore because it's making me angry, why are people so skeptical about things like this? This is a legit request that I was going to make, I even made a blogspot for few weeks ago *before* I knew the timeframe of my grandmother. I just knew she had liver cancer, and that she was going to live 2 or 3 more years tops. Then I get a text from my aunt saying 2 months, and then it's been bumped up to 6-8.

The worst part about this? Is nobody is telling my grandmother about it at all. Nobody wants to tell her she's only going to live that much longer. Even though she'll be 89 in July they are afraid she'll end it now. She has a terminal illness and doesn't know her own lifespan.

Anyways, I don't know what else I can do to make this sound legit.

people are always going to be skeptical.. especially the ones on this forum. they are quick to call someone a troll or scammer without vetting. they probably base their opinion on the past, since there are so many scammers or trolls. i think it's foolish to come to a conclusion without sufficient evidence, but they think it's smart.

so my uncle give me a samsung nc10 notebook because he got his new one this little thing seems ok but the problem is its too slow on booting its takes a about 10 mins or something and youtube browsing is awful also
i want ti reset it back to its factory setting but the samsung recovery area is missing i research all over the net but i only found some old post maybe 3 to 4 years later
maybe i can change its OS to have a better performance than its current OS which is W7 ultimate
or maybe i can install ubuntu or linux

can someone give me some advice?

your laptop has an atom CPU, so that's why you video browsing is a problem.. the CPU is extremely weak.

what do you really want to know though? you could just install an OEM version of windows 7 and it'll work - you can download that off a bit torrent, and it's not illegal since your laptop has a valid key.
1864  Other / Off-topic / Re: TV Series Recommendations... on: May 28, 2014, 06:57:43 AM
I'm still watching Fargo (the series). Each episode has been really good. The guy that played Saul from Breaking Bad, is really funny in Fargo also...

i don't see it, he hasn't been funny.. just a fool. i love bob odenkirk though, he's hilarious as saul. i don't think the show is as funny/quirky as the movie was.
1865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Summary of Phinnaeus Gage's Investigation into Brock Pierce Thus Far on: May 28, 2014, 04:55:17 AM
It seems like at some point, a lot of this should be passed on to law enforcement?  The deeper people dig, the darker this entire thing gets...

i doubt law enforcement cares. these people are the wealthy elite; the only law breakers are the poor and commonfolk.
1866  Other / Off-topic / Re: I feel like bitcoin is a losing battle on: May 28, 2014, 02:33:31 AM
what are you trying to tell us here

Must be some kind of roleplaying or fiction writer.  Apparently the guy has been on the poverty line for well over five years now.

If that were me, would had learned by maybe year #1 to either..

A.  Get a job
B.  If can't find a job, then learn to sell drugs or panhandle
C.  Relocate to North Dakota / Alberta and make $$$

Yes, some kind of roleplayer. Why are people so skeptical of honest to god stories? Here's the gist.

In 2007 I was involved in a major car accident that left me with severe panic and anxiety and PTSD, in 2008 I was admitted to the hospital because I wasn't eating at all and they found I had really bad gallstones and they needed to be removed immediately. From 2008 til now I've been dealing with the after effects of both, from raging panic to anxiety so deep and hard that I can barely get out of bed. I am fighting to get on SSI but they apparently don't feel I"m disabled enough yet I've displayed a level of anxiety that can only be described as SEVERE. The doctor even approved me for disability so I'm legal.

I don't have any money, I don't have any assets. I don't have anything but the laptop I'm typing on and some clothes stashed away.

Why is this so hard to understand, are people not allowed to suffer without skepticism?

have you tried meditation by the way? it can help - i've met countless people who suffer from one thing or another, and it can help. i've seen people make 180 degree turns on their life. you can do 10 day courses and if you don't have money, it's free.

if you are suffering, you should seek out to understand why you are suffering.

casinos only lose sometimes, and when they do, they ban you for life.
1868  Other / Off-topic / Re: Damn it I just lost all my bitcoins on: May 28, 2014, 01:48:02 AM
imo i consider any bets where you are not more sure than 50% + house fee = gambling, since the odds are that you are gonna lose. if you're good with keynesian statistics or some form of logic, then do it.. but not impulse, because that's just stupid.
1869  Other / Off-topic / Re: Damn it I just lost all my bitcoins on: May 28, 2014, 01:24:32 AM
in this day and age, you have to think long term.. gambling is fun and all, but imagine if BTC went up to $10,000 per coin.. you'd think to yourself "i gambled away $16,000.
1870  Other / Off-topic / Re: I feel like bitcoin is a losing battle on: May 28, 2014, 12:51:21 AM
How can I buy coin without any money.

That's the problem, I don't have anything to invest here. I can't sell my laptop, or any other cheap trinket because it won't net me any amount of BTC that I can put away and use for the future. The laptop I'm using isn't worth enough to sell on craigslist!

Anyways, maybe I should just close this thread, or maybe a mod can? I'm tired of seeing it honestly, I respect all of your opinions but I guess I'd have to go into detail of what has happened over the past several years and how I've ended up the way I am right now.

Thanks for the advice though.

looks like you have an ad signature thing going on. why not post a little more on the forums? if you spend enough time, you can potentially earn .5 BTC in a month. all for posting.
1871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Avoid U.S. Taxes on Bitcoin. Give to Charity. on: May 28, 2014, 12:48:23 AM
i think you are still liable for paying taxes once you use the bitcoins though. bitcoin is treated as an asset by the IRS, not a currency.
Yipes! Me thinks you missed the whole point of the post. Carefully explained and documented is the fact that, NO, you are NOT liable for paying taxes on the bitcoins you donate that have been held more than one year. There's no I think / you think about it. Just give them to the approved non-profit directly -- without selling them first -- and owe no tax on the transaction.

i wasn't talking about donating though.. but i did go off-topic a little bit. was responding tothe poster above me.
1872  Other / Off-topic / Re: Well I was going to start a campaign to get me home to my grandmother on: May 28, 2014, 12:40:28 AM
You don't have relatives or friends that can help you?

I have friends who are in similar situations as I. I don't think anyone wants to make a 16 hour drive to pick me up to take me home, and my relatives and I aside from my mother and grandmother are not on speaking terms from a past event.

what about charter buses? also consider that android app (i think called lyft)... you can make a request and offer something to someone who is going from AK to PA, and maybe pitch in $50 or so.

charter bus from AK to PA is about $150.
1873  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Avoid U.S. Taxes on Bitcoin. Give to Charity. on: May 28, 2014, 12:37:42 AM
Just don't convert to fiat and you are in the clear either way. Long term that is probably the best return on investment as well if BTC goes "to the moon" as we all predict.

1874  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Muslim Executed in America for Being Muslim on: May 27, 2014, 11:49:45 PM
i don't think the term "executed" is a proper term to use. he was murdered.. execution is usually done when someone has committed a crime. being muslim is not a crime.
1875  Other / Off-topic / Re: HALP - relationship problems on: May 27, 2014, 11:16:35 PM
Get yourself a Tinder account.  You'll forget about her in about 20 swipes.

i'm not really a ladies man type.. i rub off as a nice guy, which means i don't get any action. i'm not the "cool" badboy. girls just don't dig it.
1876  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Inclusive Capitalism on: May 27, 2014, 10:58:59 PM
Today in London the great and the good have gathered to talk about "Inclusive Capitalism" - amongst them Prince Charles and Lynn Forester de Rothschild  Grin     I'd have liked to have seen Amir Taaki there myself  Wink

So - it would seem that capitalism isn't fundamentally at fault, it just needs to be more "inclusive".

What is Inclusive Capitalism ? Can it be brought about by greater regulation, better education, a more aspirational culture ??

Is capitalism fixable ? Or is its failure inherent within its very nature ?

i prefer to point towards human nature instead of the label of "capitalism" .. after all, it's people who operate within the capitalistic societies. regulation COULD work, but the problem is that politicians don't look out for the everyman; instead they try to help out the big corporations, and ultimately, themselves. the nature of everything is to grab as much as you can for yourself, nevermind the aftermath of your actions... and as long as people can get away with it, they will.
1877  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Avoid U.S. Taxes on Bitcoin. Give to Charity. on: May 27, 2014, 10:56:27 PM
so this brings up an interesting topic.. if you want to evade paying taxes and have a lot of bitcoins, just start up your own non-profit charity.
To be clear, we're not talking about tax EVASION. We're talking about tax AVOIDANCE. And your suggestion would only work if you actually gave your income to that formed charity, in the same way as you'd give it to any other non-profit -- relinquishing all personal direction or control over what the non-profit does with those funds. The IRS doesn't allow any tax evasion shell games here. That formed non-profit would be very much under the IRS microscope for donations made by its founder.

well i'm nowhere near being an expert on this topic, but i thought a lot of people used non profit charities as a tax shelter.. here's a link on what the IRS said in 2005 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A26388-2005Apr4.html

does anyone else have a hard time connecting with chicks? at least most of them.. i want to be able to talk to a chick about the random musings in my mind, and have her understand what i'm talking about. i also want someone who will be an equal and won't let me manipulate/walk over her (though i don't like doing it). i just like to know that a girl can push back just as hard, when provoked. i don't want a subservient housemaid who will give me children and sex.
1880  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin will not go past $1000 on: May 27, 2014, 09:53:22 PM
once the ETFs come out and wallstreet jumps into the game, i'm pretty certain it will reach $1,000.. oh and that's not even mentioning a major company like ebay, newegg, or amazon adopting btc.
