Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon

I'm using 0.2.4.2 and somehow I upgraded BFGMiner to 3.6.0 .  I was trying to upgrade it to 3.7.0 but I'm damned if I can remember how I did it, and my googlefu is weak today...

Neil, when can we get the new 3.7.0 version of bfgminer to git pull? Sorry to ask... but this time, I didn't used my usual sarcasm or even bold or gigantic letters...

Neil may be busy; I went ahead and compiled 3.7.0 for MinePeon and made a pull request in github, so all Neil has to do is merge it and it will be available, just trying to help ya out Neil

I also did the 3.7.0 compilation, with the help of tk1337. Many thanks.

The git pull from today already has the 3.7.0 bfgminer. I already compiled the new 3.8.0 version and I'm using it with Bluefury's, Block Erupters and Jalapeños.

I'm assuming MinePeon supports the Nanofury miners (they need the hidapi stuff)?  Seems I'm getting a nanofury to replace a dead Bluefury.

I was unable to get my Nanofurys to run on a Pi. Attempted multiple OS's and configurations.

Yeah, I think I'm going to abandon the RaspberryPi.  I can't find a BeagleBone Black anywhere at a decent price, so it's back to Windows for me I think.  I have a Celeron 847 Intel NUC which uses very little power - it'll do the job OK.  Plus I can use my old USB3 Anker hub, which gives me a lot more room for the sticks.

It's a shame, MinePeon is a good little system, but the Pi's crap USB is the massive stumbling block.

What is a decent price for you?

I wanted to pay less than £35, which is around RaspberryPi price, and the price RS and Farnell were charging for the BeagleBone Black.  Non-one has stock, except sellers on eBay or Amazon who are charging double that.

But, I've given up on these SOC machines, and gone back to a PC to run my miners (a Celeron 847 NUC in a TranquilPC passive case, 64GB SSD and 4GB RAM).  It only uses about 10W, and it works with my USB3 Anker hub, so I'm happy to stick with it.

i try to install manually hidapi from git , configure make and make install say no error, but when compiling bfgminer hidapi missing

Hey guys Im having an issue. I have just plugged in my raspberry pi with minepeon on it. It has recognized all of my block erupters, however only 5 out of 10 seem to be actually hashing. Any ideas?

I would press M (manager) and press E (enable) if they are disabled. Or I would go through the ones that aren't active and disable them and enable them again, or remove them and re-add them. Maybe you already tried that though.

This is because hidapi installs to /usr/local by default (it hints to this when you make install). bfgminer's configure won't find it there. You either need to set an explicit --prefix when you ./configure hidapi or you need to specify CFLAGS and LDFLAGS to ./configure with bfgminer so it can find hidapi.

For instance, the following worked for me:

This got the Hashbuster2 working on my Raspberry Pi with MinePeon. I have Erupters, Red Fury, and BFL going as well:

It is ya. I ended up not using the Raspberry Pi for a proxy. It doesn't seem to me like it can keep up with a few ASICs pointed at it.

this weekend i had a big drama with my avalon batch 3 with 4 modules.
the tplink gave up on me and was unable to connect to the avalon.

i had a RPI so i started putting 2.4.1 minepeon on my RPI. but unfortunately my avalon was not recognized.
nor in cgminer or bfgminer. same i tried on 2.4 and 2.3 but non of them seemd to work with my avalon. connecting the
machine on windows worked fine for me. using zadig.

weird thing is when i downgraded Raspberry Pi back to 2.2  minepeon. suddenly it worked!
like flash/connect and mine!
i think something is wrong with wither the cgminer/bfgminer compile or drivers in arch.


after getting 2.2 up all you have to do is tweaking the miner config file to get it up and running the GHS you actually have.
hope this helps others. and maybe working avalons in the next minepeon. minepeon Rocks!

I'll have to mess with it some more when I'm not in the middle of troubleshooting other things. When I had both the Cube and Blade pointed at the Rpi it seemed they both reported lower hash rates than when pointed at bfgminer on a Windows machine.

I've about 35GH going through mine, and it actually seems to run bfgminer a little better than the Celeron NUC running Windows.  Though, only 24GH is going through the proxy, the rest is via USB, with more USB stuff due any time.
But, the USB is stuggling I think, as I'm forced to use USB2.0 hubs, plus the onboard ethernet is running off USB on the Pi.  The "restrict it to USB1.1" workaround really nerfs the NIC's performance, so that might be a side effect some folks aren't aware of, especially if you're trying to run a proxy off the Pi.


I bit the bullet and ordered a BeagleBone Black today.  I'm excited to see if MinePeon is released for the BBB.  I'm willing to beta test it, wink wink nudge nudge.  I'll be just running bfg off Angstrom in the meantime. 

Added bonus of the BBB is that it runs off 5V, which should give a bit of load for the PSU - currently I'm using 12V exclusively.

I'm trying to troubleshoot issues I'm having with MinePeon. Basically it will slow down to the point of not mining / responding, and must then be hard-reset. When this is occurring, even key-presses over SSH are painful slow. This seems to be related to the proxy it is pointed at being reset.

In order to troubleshoot this I'd like to basically disable all the MinePeon "stuff" and just reboot the Raspberry Pi and use bfgminer myself. Can anyone point out how to do this? Thanks!
