Absolutely ridiculous finish to the British GP just now... punctures for both Mercedes cars, Hamilton on last lap. Verstappen was so far behind Hamilton, he took an extra pit stop to get fastest lap... but as it turned out, if he stayed out and not pitted for fastest lap, he'd have easily caught the 3-wheeled Hamilton and won the race!

This from the official F1 twitter account sums it up:


Hamilton can win races with only 3 tyres.
Everyone is judging RBR for giving Max a pit stop otherwise he might be first, but how could they know that Hamilton is going to have tyre problem in the end of the race?

They could.If they were careful to the details which the F1 race graphic showed the tyre that had the puncture was only 12% effective while Bottas had 26% effective and had the puncture.I think they rushed to get the 1 point from the fastest lap and not being careful to read all the data which could have led them to race win yesterday.

I think RedBull and Verstappen going the save way and change the tyres after the tire damage by Bottas, also to the one point for the fastet lap.

This weekend are interesting Pirelli take this weekend softer tire compounds so i think more box stops than yesterday.

Marc will probably missing at the Brno GP because of his second surgery.

Thanks. It is interesting to get some technical information about the various approaches of the teams. Unfortunately, whatever minor tweaks Ferrari and Red Bull make, it won't be enough... they have both dropped back from their performance last year - in Ferrari's case largely due to the issue with the illegal engine - which Mercedes have moved ahead a bit. The gap between MErcedes and everyone else is now a huge gulf, as exemplified by the fact that Racing Point are now able to vie for podium places.

Unfortunately the best that Red Bull can hope for is a clear second place in the championship, and the best Ferrari can hope for is third - although that doesn't seem particularly likely, given that Vettel just doesn't seem interested and is just seeing out his contract.

Not only the development of the aero package have a big influence at the performance from Mercedes, also the Ferrari tweak last year pushed Mercedes even more to improve the performance from your engine and after the prohibited from Ferrari the Mercedes engine is the strongest in the field. My opinion and only after the new regulatory the other teams have a chance 2022.

Red Bull have the luck that Verstappen gets the maximum out of his car.

Albon is struggling a lot and let's hope for him the tide quickly change and he start finishing closer to the top. The gap between Max and he is now too big.

My opinion and only after the new regulatory the other teams have a chance 2022.

Absolutely. The Ferrari super engine last year forced Mercedes to work extra hard. And then the Ferrari engine was declared illegal... but crucially, their 2020 car was designed to accommodate that now-banned engine. The new Ferrari lower power engine doesn't work so well with their 2020 car, with results that have been clear to see in the opening few races. And yes, the development freeze for 2021 means that it's almost inevitable that Mercedes will carry their current huge advantage into next year as well.

... and then 2022, with the new regulations that are supposed to level the field and allow closer racing, we start again with the dawn of a new era, where any team could come out on top. But if the rule changes have the desired effect, then the days of a single team dominating as much as Mercedes are at the moment will be gone forever.

We need to hope for a very very hot weekend in Silverstone (hotter week means more damage on tires and how we just saw is a big deal there) or in a very rainy day, both are possibilities here.

If we have a similar climate it will be a boring week since they know what to do.


About MOTOGP is now official, Marquez got another surgery he will skip from 2 up to 4 Gps, bye-bye (probably) title.

Yeah, I read that Pirelli will send softer compound tyres to this GP. So, I think that 1 pit stop strategy is not likely this weekend.
It will be hot on free practices on Friday - 32°C and 26°C on Saturday. But on race day it will be just 22-23°C, something similar like last weekend. Though, forecast may change until race.
So, if nothing unexpected won't happen, Mercedes probably are going to dominate again.

In this situation, only the rain can change the 1-2 Mercedes.

Small rumor from Italy, tomorrow we should have the audion about the declaration from Renault to the Pink Mercedes.
Ferrari may join the case since early this year on what I understood they asked if was possible to give a version B of the car to others team to help them out and they said no.

Now is clear to most of us that pink Mercedes could be a second car of the Mercedes.

Also, they found a rule on the regulation where you can't copy the car from the photo, what Racing point did.

We need to hope for a very very hot weekend in Silverstone (hotter week means more damage on tires and how we just saw is a big deal there) or in a very rainy day, both are possibilities here.

If we have a similar climate it will be a boring week since they know what to do.


About MOTOGP is now official, Marquez got another surgery he will skip from 2 up to 4 Gps, bye-bye (probably) title.

Very hot is also a boring race, Mercedes can make one more pit stop and is always fast enough for place one and two without lose a place.

@Marc M. i think he will try to drive at the first or second race in Austria. But unfortunately when the Yamaha driver make big points at the next race it's very hard to catch up in a shortened season.

Marquez is going to have this problem for the rest of his life.
He should take some rest for some weeks but this is going to let him out of the championship this season.
It is not also sure that Marquez's titanium plate is not going to create any problem again in the future.

I agree that the midfield fight is fierce and better than last years.However when we have not a fight for the title what is the point of watching the midfield battles.They don’t give you the same emotions as the title fight.We are missing Mclaren from a long time in the fight to the title and surely the Renault engine isn’t going to help to change this.Also we need more performance from Ferrari and Redbull because if things don’t change then F1 will continue to be boring to watch the dominance of Mercedes.

It wasn't just Hamilton and Bottas. Sainz also got puncture, Kvyat big crash was also caused by puncture on his rear tyre.
I was wondering during race that reason of it may be be debris from Raikkonen front wing on the track. But Pirelli said that drivers simply used these tires for too long.
This weekend softer compound tyres will be used, Pirelli will also increase pressure in tyres.
