Tested the BB bot with two currency pairs: made money with one, even with a stop-loss selling triggered later on. With the other, lost money, because the market price dropped a lot, and when the reversal started, it touched my configured upper BB band at a lower price (EDIT: didn't setup a stop-loss with this one).

So, to avoid this, an easy solution would be to add a "minimum gain" feature like the other bots: if the candle touches the upper band BUT that would represent an effective gain < minimum gain, don't do anything, and continuously test this condition until effective gain >= minimum gain.

For those of you who said have lost money with the bot, first make sure you understand what Bollinger Bands are and what the parameters mean. Then, keep in mind this scenario I mentioned: the stop-loss options are your friends, while a minimum gain is not introduced. And no bot is "set-it-and-forget-it".

In my case, the purchases and sales are made without the candles touching the signal lines. I'm on bittrex.

That's weird, could be something related to Bittrex, then... I'm using Bitfinex, and the bot does trigger a buy when touching the lower band, and a sell when touching the upper band.

tested on bittrex and polo, doesn't work for me. bot buys whenever it wants to. mostly it buys on upper BB, what is the worst scenario.

Hi, guys.  I am using the new BB bot.  It placed the buy order just fine, but upon creating a sell order it just stopped.  I'm not sure what went wrong.  I have the log of the approximate time the error took place.

I am also having the same issue, buying at the upper BB (or randomly whenever it wants), and selling immediately after at a small loss.   Also executing trades, mostly for a loss (buying high and selling low) within the bands.

Glad I just tested with a small amount as it is not working the way I would expect it to.

Same here. The bot is doing the reverse actions. It's buying high and selling low... if it were flipped I would have made easy profit. Instead, I lost about $30. I tweaked my BB settings now to see if it'll fix anything.

Here's my graph. Yeah, it looks atrocious.

random thought but, as I can't see when the first buy order was placed from your screenshot: you din't start the bot running when a buy order had already been placed did you? I'm thinking maybe it started with a sell when it should have bought because there was already a balance? I could be totally wrong but it's worth investigating...

Have not seen this negative behaviour on Bittrex yet, although I would have liked it to sell at the higher point.  Cautious isn't a bad thing.
I will say, that the client seems less laggy, not sure if Bittrex fixed their speed issues or this version is more optimized.  Thanks though.

I reverted back in the early morning as I have a large campaign running had issues and did not need the new features, so I can tell you Bittrex is running much faster than earlier in the week. For the period I did use the 3.7.0 client it was very snappy both on Bittrex and Polo.

Thanks for the image you posted, I see what you mean about a higher percentage. I think this is the best behavior you can expect, the first solution that matches the requirements. Will be nice to hear how this runs day in and day out. But, as in the drowning man scenario, I would say the first solution available is the correct one.

The BB bot is broken. I testing it in the demo version and I am seeing it buying and selling willy nilly.
I would not use it at this time until Jon comes up with an explanation/fix.

Ok then.  I haven't had a problem yet, but I also haven't changed any of the default settings either.  I never bothered with the "Demo" aspect, I just popped in a small amount to trade with and left it for a few hours.  It hasn't gone any stranger than my own trading habits.  Actually, I think it has better smarts than me in this department, and besides, I'm in no rush Smiley

As you can see the blue dots (the buys) are not near the blue line (which is supposed to be the buy line).

I can think of two situations for this,
Point one - The bot is broken and the buy place is miscalculated.

Point Two - the bot is actually working fine and what is happening is that by the time that it sends the buy order thru the API to the exchange the price has changed thats why the buy dot ends up where it does.

Using the Bittrex demo mode that I am trying the bot end up buying at 0.0000799 when the BB line was at 0.0000772. Thats over 3% difference.
This could mean the difference between a nice profit and a considerable loss. (btw as of now the price of XVG is now at 0.0000771 so it is losing 3%. see what I mean?)

So looking at what I am seeing with the Leonardo I am thinking thats point Two at play here and I dont know how this is something that can be fixed somehow?
But if thats the case if the bot sends a buy order for 0.0000772 why then does the exchange end up placing an order for 0.0000799?

Does other bots (like gunbot) have this kind of issue as well?

You cant use the BB Bot in the demo as it doesnt support spot orders.

Quote
Edit: Demo does not support spot orders yet

Please take care that the demo markets on leonArdo do not support spot orders yet so testing the new Bollinger Band bot, while possible, will result in your demo funds being drained. We will release a patch for this ASAP.

I dont think the patch for this has been released yet.

Update patch version 3.7.2 available

Two patches in one day. Sorry guys, but this should fix some other issues that arose.

We fixed the issue mentioned by hackabyte https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1467939.msg26712367#msg26712367
Funds weren't correctly updated on Bitfinex and open orders were causing issues, too. Now the two requests are resolved using the REST API until Bitfinex fixes the websocket behaviour for this data.
We also fixed the demo so that it now supports spot orders so you should be able to test the new Bollinger Band Bot in the demo
Fixed an issue that meant when you cancelled the creation of a bot it still created it.
Ensured that the same name cannot be given to a new strategy

Sorry about any inconvenience caused.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Apologies missed that!

Hello everyone! I'm a rookie trader, just making my first steps been trading for a month so far. Made both some profits and some loses but on average my trading balance is positive. And i'm very interested in leonArdo cause looks like it has good price/features ratio. I want to ask some questions before buying a license:
1. How good is leonArdo compared to other trading bots? There are plenty on the market both freeware and paid. Looking at Gekko and GunBot also. But Gekko is opensource which is a + but has very toxic community which is -. GunBot looks awesome but 0.05 BTC is a bit too much for me atm cause my whole coins value is around 0.1 BTC.
2. Is there some kind of headless mode? I have couple of servers running Debian so the idea is to set a dedicated trading bot instance or a VM. Is it possible or i should look for something like GunBot?

The bollinger band strategy doesn't work well for me. Make purchases and place sales orders at lower prices almost immediately, when the signal is clearly showing that the selling price may be much higher.
This has happened to me with two different currencies.

I'm on bittrex running leonardo on the raspberry.
In the picture illustrates what is happening. Here you can see that the signal to put the sales order did not match the red line of the signal.

Is that a bug? does that happen to anyone else?

Unfortunately this happen to me too!!!!!
i'm on Bittrex and using BB strategy. I know well BB and i used it for manual trading.
it is buying high and selling low.....
after a buy it immediately place a sell order no matter what (or where) the sell placeholder is...
Hope technical support could fix this ASAP.
The buy order also is not placed correctly (ex. bb lower band is not touched by the candle)

Thanks for the reports about odd behavior of the new BB bot. We're looking into it! A couple of things you can do when reporting such behavior that would help us a lot:

  • only run one strategy at a time per currency pair so it's clear which strategy placed the orders
  • when taking screenshots, include the price-aligned order book on the right
  • also, show the list of completed trades
  • send the report to support@marginsoftware.de so we directly have it in our ticket system
  • attach the complete log of the currency pair

We'll keep you posted on what we find!

Christian

In this particular case it would seem like the trade was actually coming from the second strategy that is not shown. I'm suspecting this because the last trade was a buy and the bot is waiting for a buy signal. Would the settings of the second bot make the trades more plausible then?
