Well for comparison my 6 ants run at an average hash rate of 13.50Gh/s and accepted shares @ approximately 12.0Gh/s which is reflected in the pool stats and bfgminer. This is utilizing a pi and usb 2.0 hubs so I assume loss is system latency stales and errors. The pool has stabilized my difficulty setting @ 9.

I think I read somewhere a while back that it is possible for the difficulty level to actually go down. If so, I wonder if the recent issues with the exchanges, the price drop, and what seems to be an unlucky streak that is allegedly not exclusive to just this pool could cause a slow down or reversal of the difficult change? Any thoughts?

Okay, I haven't the faintest idea if I'm doing it right.  Let me just mention I'm doing this from a bootcamped MBP 15'' running Win7 32-bit.  Obviously I'm not going to get anything good and I'm not expecting to hit the big money at all  Hell I'd be content with .00001 BTC just to know I'm doing this right.  But, I AM doing something right if I'm getting a steady 4-7 Mh/s?  I take that as its connected to the pool and it's obviously doing something.  I apologize to all but I just wanted to make sure.  I've read through the newbie guide, and the simplified version of the newbie guide, selected my mining application (guiminer), downloaded Bitcoin-qt and streamed all the block data to my system and my wallet is perfectly in sync with the network.

Thank you all in advance.

Probably ok. At 6Mhps it's hard to tell - it will take quite a while to get your first share though, and it will take 8.7 weeks at the current difficulty to earn the 0.00001 btc at which you're aiming. Probably longer, at those 8.7 weeks will see a few changes in difficulty.

Difficulty changes as the time between retargets change.

A retarget occurs ever 2016 blocks. If the time between blocks is exactly 14 days, difficulty stays the same. If time between retargets is less than 14 days, difficulty increases by the same proportion.

Moreinterestingly (for you) is that If the time between retargets is more than 14 days, difficulty decreases by the same proportion. So if it takes 15 days for 2016 blocks, difficulty would be divided by 15/14 to get the next difficulty.

Where does the relationship between 14 days and 2016 blocks come from?

Where does the relationship between 14 days and 2016 blocks come from?

Difficulty attempts to keep the block rate to 1 block every 600 seconds. A retarget (when a new network difficulty occurs) happens every 2016 blocks.

2016 * 600 = 1209600 seconds = 14 days

"Difficulty attempts to keep the block rate to 1 block every 600 seconds. A retarget (when a new network difficulty occurs) happens every 2016 blocks."

Is this in perpetuity. Is that written in stone? Is there any leeway written into the protocol for instances of unpredictability? Just wondering, because I have also read that they actually have a date +/- when the last block will be solved. That to me indicates a finite solution. What happens then?

It's the protocol. It's designed to accommodate unpredictability. I should also add that there are limits to the above; difficulty can only rise by a maximum of 4x after a retarget (which has happened once, in July 2010) and decrease to a minimum of 1/4 after a retarget. For example, even if 2016 blocks takes longer than 56 days, difficulty cannot decrease to any less than 1/4 of what it was.

It's possible to change it, but it would be a fork and a majority of clients would need to accept it.

I think you might have misunderstood what you read. There is no "last block" planned - that would mean a planned end to bitcoin.

Maybe you mean when the last block reward is estimated to occur?

Yeah like I said I'm not expecting anything for quite awhile, but I got the answer I was looking for.  So I just need to invest in a good mining rig in the meantime.  Or pray for some miracle.  Thanks very much, organ.

Seeing how all of you would know better than I would, is 0.01BTC in 8 days good at the current difficulty with just 5 antminer U1's?  From all the numbers I'm seeing with them running at the stock settings I'm going to think it is.  I know at this rate I wont hit ROI. All I'm wondering about is if I'm getting what I should be getting.  I have had some issues with Windows updating on the laptop and restarting.  I was able to get my cmd file to start when Windows boots up after finding that out.  I also dropped from the 5 to 4 and I'm not sure for how long that was.

2 Things:

1) About your last post heres a tip in case you didn't know. I'm not sure about the antminers, but the Bitfury's will allow you to identify them with bfgminer. if your type "m" for manage devices ( you can then arrow up and down for to target which device you want ) and then "i" for identify. On the Bitfury's it will toggle the led from red to orange so you can see which device is in which slot on your usb hub.

2) 8 Days is not really a long enough time to gauge what you should expect. Especially with the 7 and 30 day luck % as it is now. You could extrapolate from 8 days but real life tells me you should look for the time between difficulty changes. I think every 2016 blocks. Just my opinion.

Thanks.  As for the antminers, I don't know why the one stopped working or even when it stopped.  I just noticed it yesterday when I looked at the site while at work.  Once I was able to look check them after work it didn't take long to fix it.  Still not sure why the one just stopped working and moving it to a new USB port work.  I put another one in the port the one stopped working in and all are working fine now.

5 blocks in 12hours we are running good!

Too bad I only have 1.6GH/s Cheesy

yeah - every time there is a brief stretch where you think we might start to get back - we lay a big 10+ hour one. . . .

it should all work back to 100/100/100, lets just hope sooner rather than later.

I'm so sick of this. I leave slush and go to another pool, check on slush without pointing the miners back to slush, see that the block times are like 1 hour and less for the most part. Proceed to point the miners back to slush, and now we are back in the fucking 11's and 15 hours.

I'm so sick of this conspiracy bullshit.

Hey Guys, I am looking to sell some of my mining equipment anyone interested?

I have 4 200gh Avalon Miners.  Two of them are new and ahve been running for only 3 days. The other two have been running for 3 weeks at 205+- GH with no hiccups. Really good machines compared to what Ive read about the ant miners dropping GH over time.

It is time for me to liquidate my investments and buy some toys..

My loss is your gain. Im asking for $2,350 or 3.91 BTC for each unit.

PM me if you are interested.

what - conspiracy of whichever pool you point too will now get long block times ?? yeah, that makes a lot more sense now. . .

It was a 16min block for the network so lots of transactions and fees ... add to that one generous transaction with 0.9 fees and there you go 26
