Ubuntu ppa:yacoin/yacoin was updated with 0.4.3.0~saucy1 which is close to final version being released real soon. ~trusty1 would need bitcoin core to upload libdb4.8 so it didn't work yet.

/u/yacointip is working again. http://www.reddit.com/r/yacointip

For anyone that doesn't receive the automatic messages from Github.  Yacoin 0.4.3 stable was released yesterday, and the Windows wallet has been upgraded today and can be downloaded from yacoin.org

This is different from the 0.4.3 testing version (doesn't have the openssl fix), so if you have that, you'll still want to upgrade.

While the openssl bug probably did not affect your Yacoin client, we strongly urge everyone to upgrade asap just to be safe.

Changes for 0.4.3:

Includes security fix for https://www.openssl.org/news/secadv_20140407.txt

Qt checkbox to enable stake minting.

Multiple POS enhancements.

MSVC++ Native version.

Scrypt-Jane updates.

Thanks to:

And most of all the Yacoin community!

I just tried the 0.4.3 wallet. Since minting is automatic when the wallet is not encrypted, for such wallets shouldn't the checkbox to enable stake minting be checked by default?

Thanks for trying it out!

The checkbox has no effect for non encrypted wallets and I did consider just disabling it. I still can if it really bothers everyone  Grin  Running an unencrypted wallet for POS minting is such a bad idea though that even more than that, I was looking into a way to not allow running the client in the future unless it's encrypted.

In fact, can anyone think of a scenario where an unencrypted wallet is desirable?

For me the probability of forgetting the password is far greater than someone's breaking into my computer and stealing my coins. I hate having to write down and look up passwords. There are so many passwords asssociated with protocurrency. There are some reasons for mandatory seatbelt laws -- because if you are seriously injured there is a cost to the society due to traffic disruption/rescue/medical/loss of labor... so the governemnt could feel entitled to ask anyone who wants to have the privilege to drive on public road to wear seatbelt. Now what's the excuse for a mandatory wallet password?

Great, I will look into later.  Maybe someone else can as well?  From what I understand Coin Control has nothing to do with 'coin age' as coin control is for managing multiple addresses and was originally built for Bitcoin--obviously coin age does not apply, no Proof of Stake.

OK, thanks for your insight.  Just an idea I'm throwing out there. This wouldn't be done unless everyone agreed on the change.

Agree here - I don't actually encrypt all of my wallets.  The one I use for receiving mined YAC is not encrypted.  I also tend to segregate everything on my network onto VM's and such though, so nothing new gets installed on the machine with that wallet.

Hi all,

With all the brouhaha about OpenSSL1.0.1?, is/would it be sufficient to just re(compile)link with OpenSSL1.0.1g, whether one is rebuilding a gcc version on Linux, MAC, Windows or a MSVC++ version on Windows?

Yes recompile is enough. Fixing the bug in yacoin means requiring higher version in makefiles and readme docs.

We have gone from decentralized currencies to centralized exchange tyranny  ::)

yeah, always the same problem: exchanges (as "interfacing" to the old, centralised "standard" world) are the biggest -- rather the only -- risk when it comes to using Crypto. The "core" system and overall tech works fine and has not had any flaws, ever.

It's like the government-mandated disclaimers out there of "There is risk in trading futures and options", and then it turns out that the only real losses you ever made are the fault of your idiot futures broker (all the time, have used six or seven outfits, no exception over 12+ years of trading)!!

Same thing with exchanges -- apparently the same kind of greedy, incompetent people running them :(( . Explains a lot...

reminds me of the quotes which all say the same thing:

...misunderstandings and neglect create more confusion in this world than trickery and malice.
At any rate, the last two are certainly much less frequent.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe The Sorrows of Young Werther (1774)

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity, but don't rule out malice.
Heinlein's Razor

Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice.

So I believe YAC is stronger than any other coin in the development department. I think now there is just really a marketing void.

I think probably the easiest adjustment for the biggest return would be to change this development thread.

We can actually copy from the crap clone Ultracoin on something (sorry ThirtyBird, Ultracoin is awful). We need an 'official' thread that gives all the pertinent information for newcomers, ie links to pools, info on the characteristics, link to block explorer, link to bounty threads, link to announcement in different languages, etc, etc. It shouldn't be hard... Ultracoin actually did this well. Anyone else have a good announcement thread example to use?

I guess the real question is how do we go about making that change. I feel like Joe_Bauers should make the post, but someone else can do all the grunt work for him, so he can just copy and paste?

I tried contacting WindMaster, but he hasn't replied yet, so I think it is best just to create a new announcement thread. We just want to present it in an appealing and familiar and user-friendly way. In my view, the NFactor change can basically be treated as a new coin release just with a premine for the initial investors--we can call the thread "[ANN][YAC] NFactor 15+ YACoin". There isn't a huge rush I guess, but it would be very beneficial to have the thread setup prior to the next NFactor change.

Any thoughts?

BTW the 10,000 YAC Meme Contest is going well! There are some good ones. Submit your meme!
