Why does this thread not tell you how many coins there are in total (that can be mined before the limit is reached) and how to mine devcoin, or where to find any pools?

The forum also does not help with this information.

Somebody recommended this to me, and after reading about it I like the idea. I think it could be semi-successful in the long run, but there is little information out right now to help people who are looking to get involved.
Hi there is no limit to the amount that can be mined.. and mining is done via merged mining through a few of the main bitcoin pools. Mining on your gpu will be very hard with devcoin since its difficulty is so high...

Although to the newcomer it may seem that no mining cap is bad economically it actually serves well to the adaption of our economy today unlike capped coins. Secondly we wont see the transaction withholding attacks or anything of the like when coin caps reached on bitcoin and miners are rewarded via tx fees. The devcoin model provides a way for stable growth since every year less and less coins are minted in relation to the overall supply giving the desired deflationary affect on price that investors want and the stability of knowing the future of predictable monetary policy which doesnt shift or give incentive to attack like ppc or xpm.

Any way alot of this I will mention with more clear dialog when I write my articles for prbuzz for wallstreet journal publishing.. but welcome aboard. I hope to help clear a few things up but it will take a few weeks for me since I am working on updating the src code right now to 0.8.5..

We need go getters like you to help improve usability so make suggestions and maybe try to offer your expertise to make changes so you can make someone elses life easier coming in.

Thank You.

Now, look how silly this thing is :  Go at http://devcoin.org/   Press CTRL+F, put "forum''.
What do you find? 2 results. One is about the pool forum, another is '' BitcoinTalk.org Forum '', which is a dead link.

How are people supposed to know where forum is? I wouldn't know now if you didn't tell me.

If you people really want DVC succeed, start making the site from the scratch.

Peace

Yes, clearly.

I already mentioned this exact problem a few pages ago in this thread.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233997.msg3949363#msg3949363

But no one seems to take me seriously with that matter...

So either there is no webmaster for devcoin.org, or he is asleep or not responding, or it's simply not getting thru to him, or he doesn't care, because he's dreaming about ATM machines.

Hypersire is now working on the web site. I suggest a payment of 36 shares if he makes a better web site, any way he wants, with no input from anyone because that slows things down. After that, people can suggest changes and if after a few weeks he incorporates several changes and improves the web site, he'll get another 36 shares. This would not be a general bounty that anyone could get, this payment would only be for Hypersire because he offered and gave links to other sites he worked on. Any objections, or should something be changed?

Its fair since its atleast 2 weeks of work to make a customized design from scratch plus hes gotta do graphics etc with that many shares I would expect a very good site up there with the best of the alts. I think a cms system needs to be built in so non devs can edit it easily..

Gentlemen,

We just launched http://AltCoinCards.com - where you can trade your devcoins for electronic gift-cards. My fellow developers and I will continue working through the night to eliminate any blatant bugs.

Here's what we have so far: http://AltCoinCards.com/shop/

The site's integrated with coinpay checkout so that you can easily and safely transfer devcoin.

As of now we instituted a $7 convenience fee. But please note, as soon as we get a better picture of the business landscape, we plan to offer better pricing. Furthermore, as soon as the website's fully functional, we'd love to bring on some Devcoin fanatics to help run it and maybe even own it.

Please feel free to reply with other stores/services that you'd like to see on the site.

Wish you all the best,
Max

..
Bit of an early xmas present I was able to port over devcoin src over to bitcoin 0.8.5 with fixes (i0coin latest) and managed to statically link in libcurl so no need for the dll either(sucked doing that btw).. now I need to test and create the qt wallet! How does the test net work?
..

We could just test it on the real network, if something error happens, the blocks or transactions will be rejected by the whole devcoin network. So I think it's safe to do it.

@Unthinkingbit, what's your opinion?

If the person is not mining with it, it should be completely safe. So please test it without mining on the real network.

To everyone,

I suggest that the first four people who test Sidhujag's client and make an informative post (at least 50 words) get devcoins. First would get four shares, then 3, then 2, and finally one. You do not have to succeed in running the client, if you post what you tried and what errors there were, that's enough. Any objections?

I will set this up on the update thread which I will update you all daily(to avoid clutter) so if anyone interested in testing or has knowledge about bitcoin source code please visit and participate here (Devcoin src code update thread):

I got a response from Zach Harvey from Lamassu ( https://lamassu.is/ ). They are working on a Bitcoin ATM, and I emailed them about Devcoin. They said they are considering a Litecoin ATM first, and will consider other Altcoins (the ones that show promise) in the future. They are focussing on the Bitcoin first though (which is set to be released early 2014. So they might consider a Devcoin ATM later in the future, as long as we keep growing.

Good job,
i have send 2 emails to the guys from Safello, i hope they will respond, when they do i will let it know here.

Edit , they have replied

I'm sorry to say this, but we are not the developers of the Bitcoin-ATM.
Coindesk had a faulty headline to that article.

The manufacturers of the ATM we bought was Lamassu, great company.
Their web address is: https://lamassu.is/
and e-mail: zach@lamassubtc.com

Best regards,

Dinkelberg allready made contact with them,

I have now send an email to robocoin, so i hope to here from them soon

Currently conducting paid promotion of the latest DVC Press Release through Facebook (it is showing up in many bitcoiners' news feeds)!

Please also like and share through your networks Smiley

https://www.facebook.com/BitcoinPRBuzz/posts/209971382520291

Sweet im going to be publishing a mini 6 part series on Dvc that will be read on wall street journal! Should be interesting.

in the actual paper?  Shocked

Our marketing budget will not allow all of them to be published on the WSJ (and there is never any guarantee of the WSJ running with anything anyway). Although the last DVC press release was published there Smiley

Either way these articles will get a lot of exposure Smiley

The admin of CEX.IO has replied to me via email and said they will add DVC/BTC trading when enough people have requested it.

To get DVC/BTC trading on CEX.IO (which is an exchange which has pretty high volume) please complete the following steps:

1.) register for http://cex.io

2.) Go to this link https://support.cex.io/entries/28554767-Convert-NMC-IXC-DVC-to-BTC

3.) Click vote for this feature

4.) You can also submit a support ticket requesting they add DVC/BTC trading asap!
DONE!
Go people go! Devcoin is so underrated novadays.

Reposting one last time (as people seem to be looking for it): if anyone hasn't completed the above steps it takes ~2 minutes and means Devcoin will get on a big exchange and increase even more in value! It'll be added there at some point anyway but we can speed up the process Wink

Unfortunately WSJ publication is never guaranteed - don't worry we have a sufficient marketing budget to really get the message out there Smiley I already informed Sidhu Jag prior to this, that these articles may not end up on the WSJ. He's still doing a great job though Smiley

EDIT: just to clarify we actually have other Devcoin Press Releases coming up which will be going out with the service at http://bitcoinprbuzz.com/services (the same as the previous one which did end up on the WSJ) . As things progress we may be able to set up a Devcoin media account with a very large provider, which will ensure even wider publication - I'm on it (making enquiries etc) and will keep everyone posted!

After speaking with Unthinkingbit, I have decided to continue with DVC and return as an admin on Devtome. The only caveat is that I will not be using this site much (if at all) and thus you'll want to contact me via the Devcointalk forum or email @gmail.com. I look forward to moving away from this site completely as DVC begins to stand on its own and once the new forum with email is up, we can leave this board altogether.

Now, I also promised a 50 word review of DVC4Amazon and here it is:

Quote
I used DVC for Amazon to purchase some Amazon credit with my DVC. The process was very simple and the site is well laid out. I visited the site directly at http://dvc4giftcards.us/ and chose the level of Amazon Credit I'd like and was redirected to a CoinPayments.net site. I liked that the CoinPayments didn't ask for a shipping address as this is simply an online-transaction. Once I'd put in my email address and info, I was given a DVC address to send coin to. DVC takes about an hour to be confirmed and I received an email from DVC for Amazon within 24 hours containing my codes. I put the code in and used it to watch a movie on Amazon streaming video! The only criticism I have for the site is that the email came from "Smeagol Eets Feesh" which is kind of strange and un-related to the site by name. Aside from that one quibble, the site worked great and the code was perfect. All in all a very easy way to turn DVC in to tangibles.

Ok, that should be good and earn me the 1 share bounty for a review (I hope). Other than that, glad to be back with you DVC folk, lets move this sucker forward!

I had some trouble finding this out myself, so I decided to make a post about in at Devtome. Hope this clarifies things and makes clear that having no hard cap is absolutely no problem in the longer run.

I am posting the graph below as well. Given Devcoin's unique properties and the relative scarceness of this coin (can only earn it by contributing; the only other method is buying), it could attract many good things and perhaps be a model of future concepts of anonymous charity.

I decided to keep a considerable amount of DVC besides boosting Cryptostocks turnover  Grin

The first person who purchases a different type of card and makes an informative post (at least 50 words) gets 2 shares and the second person gets a share. This is also for any other kind of devcoin business. There are many types of gift cards on the site, including Barnes and Noble, Macy's, Starbucks, etc:
http://altcoincards.com/shop/

There have already been two posts for Amazon cards, so there's no bounty remaining for Amazon. To get the bounty, post in this thread, and Smeagol should announce your award. If he doesn't within a few days, please message him with a link to your post.
