So I am still unclear -- sorry to be such a noob.

I had ~ over 71,000 words. So 40-Word Count means 40 shares. Does that mean my "earnings multiplier" is ~ .56? So when it says "an unpopular writer will get 0.75 generation shares per thousand words" I am significantly below that? I see.  Embarrassed

I thought there would be some lag between the time that the round is closed and the time when the multiplier is calculated. I'm not sure why... I guess since payouts are delayed as they are. So if you post things at the very end of a round (the total traffic received will be much lower), that will likely drag your multiplier way down?

I'm going to try to keep with it, but this is discouraging. I had no idea my writing would be worth so little (relative to other writers). I was excited about this project, but I may just engage in it on sort of a "back-burner" basis. Producing well-written articles/works is just too much work if I get paid 56% of what the "average" writer gets paid. No complaints... I understand the rationale for the multiplier. Just don't know if it's worth it. I'm not an online marketer.

You got it right.

71802 words for 72 base shares.
Multiplier was 0.558x, leading to total shares of 40.

I guess I never quite understood -- and still don't, apparently -- what is being explained in the "earnings per word" section:

Quote
The number of unique page views are divided by the number of words, then the root of that is taken and the roots of all the writers are normalized. That earnings multipler is multiplied by a goal seeked revenue neutralizing multiplier, then bounded from 0.75 to 1.25, and multiplied by the words to obtain the number of generation shares. To summarize, an unpopular writer will get 0.75 generation shares per thousand words, an average writer will get around a share per thousand words, and a popular writer will get 1.25 shares per thousand words.

I had always taken the bolded section to mean that our shares per thousand words would not be lower than .75, hence "bounded" -- and I thought that was at the very worst. Obviously this is not the case at all. Maybe I am terribly lacking in reading comprehension, but in the case that I am not, that section should be clarified. I have no idea how low the possible bottom is... but this may be too speculative for my taste.

It was 0.75-1.25 for the first round the change was in. The second round on (this being the round that just finished) changed to 0.5-1.50.

However, when I looked over the warnings, I also saw that your article:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=finshaggy_s_autobiography:

was not counted because it's not in the root namespace:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=earn_devcoins_by_writing#namespace

please title it:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=finshaggy_s_autobiography

then message me and I'll rerun devtome for everyone.

It turns out dokuwiki cuts our everything after the a question make in the title, so your article link:
"What Do You Think About The AfterLife? Please Share Your Thoughts"

actually goes to:
"What Do You Think About The AfterLife?"

so I added a check in devtome.py to follow the dokuwiki title cut. You don't have to change that.
..
Thanks for bringing this up.

I'm sorry for not checking the warning log. The warning log is experimental, I just added it last round, and it brings up many false positives so I ended up ignoring it because I was in a hurry. In the next couple of hours I'll make it more informative so I can see which are real warnings then I'll rerun devtome for everyone.

Oh shit. I'm sorry. Thank you so much.

It wasn't your fault. Adding a colon is an easy mistake to make, and no one knew that dokuwiki cut titles after a question mark. It was my fault for not going over all the warnings.

Thanks for catching that. I posted that I would change it to 0.5 to 1.5, and I changed the code, but I forgot to change the article:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=earn_devcoins_by_writing

It is now updated to the correct:

To summarize, an unpopular writer will get 0.5 generation shares per thousand words, an average writer will get around a share per thousand words, and a popular writer will get 1.5 shares per thousand words.

My total page views is 192 and Fheenix's is 32,000... So it makes a little more sense to me now why some people get positive multipliers, while some don't.

But if we could see our page views go up daily or weekly, I feel like we would be more compelled to work on that.

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.

Will popularity include time spent on a page or no??? Because if not, I suggest that people start making smaller pages, with a "table of contents" at the top and bottom of each one so that people can go to the next page.

Where do you see these stats? Do you have to run them through Google Analytics or something, or are they just posted somewhere?

This would really help a lot. I have no way of knowing if anything I am doing is producing page views. Daily would be really helpful. Some kind of rolling average would be really helpful, too. I don't know how difficult this would be to do in practice.

Would anyone here want to do some research on a 100% legal to buy, trade, possess, etc chemical that is has been clinically labeled at over 75% morphine equivalency?

Doing video tests on bugs and maybe lizards and mice could make for some good attention grabbing R&D, and could also translate into some VERY interesting articles on Devtome.

I will be able to afford to do it myself soon, as I will have to push back the silver store until I can get like 40+ shares to put down. But I will be getting around 20 this next round.

So if someone wants to join in, it can be done sooner, if not, I'll just do it myself soon.

But it's all legal. And people are already searching the chem on YouTube and Google, so it's Development that people will watch.

Unless you're promoting your work you should assume you are getting very few page views, that's generally how it works anywhere on the Internet.

Uh, thanks. I am aware.  It's hard to gauge whether promotion is working when you can't see if page views are being generated.

I did open a support ticket to ask and this was their response:

Quote
There are plans to implement other crypto-currencies in the future, however none of
these are currently confirmed. There are plans to implement Litecoins soon. An
official announcement will be made once this is available.

Question - will their self admitted plan/rumor to add litecoin drive it's price speculatively again? I have my doubts as to whether MtGox will even be able to retain their dwindling market share with all their money transmission/compliance issues. But I am going off topic now.

yes, just rest assured, and keep them bombarding with DVC.

So according to RS we have 7 days to either fix dvc code or come up with a plan with timeline. Most likely have to fix otherwise it will be replaced.

Easy. Set up a page-forwarder and use your custom links instead of linking straight to Devtome.

You can even use something like bit.ly or whatever you want.

But it's all legal.

If this is something new, probably not for long.

It's fairly new. And true, but only if no one does any research. The reason these become illegal is because no one finds a use before they become popular street drugs.

So let's find a use.

And here are the research plans. I have already done the plant test with Marijuana and like 4 RCs. And since many RCs are heavy in nitrogen, they actually work as fertilizer.

Plant Test 1, put chems in the plants water over time to see what happens
Plant Test 2, Inject a plants stem with a chem
Plant Test 3, Inject a plants roots with a chem
Ant Test 1, See how 2-5 ants respond to being alone (in a group) with the chem
Ant Test 2, See how ants respond to RC water
Ant Test 3, See how long term walking around tunnels coated in RC effect the building of those tunnels
Ant Test 4, See if Ants will cross a line made of RC
Ant Test 5, See if Ants will cross a line made of RC water
Spider Test 1, See how a spider responds to RC water
Spider Test 2, See how a spider responds to RC powder
Minnow Test 1, See how a group of minnows responds to small and larger doses of RC in their water
Minnow Test 2, Use Dosed Minnows for Fishing, Record fishing results
Diffusion Test 1, Add RC to water, Add Dye to water. Compare diffusion to a regular cup of water
Algae Test 1, Add RC to algae, see how it responds over the next few days
Color Test 1, Paint on a piece of paper, one line of: red, blue, yellow, green, purple, pink, black and white. Add RCs to colors, and make another line to compare.

And this is just brainstorming from last night

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.

Unthinkingbit linked the multipliers yesterday. Everything you need is right here:

https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/devtome_earnings_28.csv

Is there a place to view the actual multiplier (e.g. 0.5x, 1.5x), not the final word count?

Thanks

Edit: Nevermind, my multiplier is 1.4999!  Cheesy

I was looking over the file and saw that Matt got a 120-word-count.

Nice Job, Matt!

Also, does http://www.gotdevcoin.tk/ count towards marketing as a 3/5 share site?  (It has both the link and leaderboard)
