What os does it support, and can it be used for altcoins?
no nmc and btc

Ok and is it windows only or is Mac and Linux supported?

mac works not sure about linux.

I have run bitminter using firefox and 10.8.5 osx

It is a java app, all platforms are supported.

Also can I CPU mine with it or is it gpu only?

Yeah just bitcoin / namecoin. Alt coins you would have to use bfg/cg miner or one of the other gui miners depending on your flavor os. I'm a mac / linux guy and I like bfg miner, compiles nice and nice interface.

To each is own though.

Only altcoins worth mining with CPU are primecoin, quarkcoin and protoshares. Quarkcoins look scammy, primecoin has mathematical value, check out ypool.net to get set up for either primecoin or protoshares. Don't know much about protoshares, it's some theory about virtual companies and a lot of arm waving theoretical upside... but XPM are worth $5 each.

Oh btw perspective...

If you had the fastest CPU available, (i7 whatever) and mined BTC on it exclusively, non stop, and the difficulty was frozen in place instead of rising at least 15% every couple of weeks... then you'd be able to cash out your 0.01 BTC from bitminter in about 15 months time.... with increasing difficulty, read never. With an average CPU read forever times five or six.... but BTC might be worth $100,000 someday!... yah, and if it takes you 10 years to make 0.01 BTC worth $1000, you'll have spent about $2500 on electricity doing it. If you've got $2500 to "waste" and expect it to hit 100k, buy TWO coins now.

Hello all BitMinter miners!

Check out review of your mining pool on BitcoinSites.Org!

It still says 1.5% fee near the top. The fee is 1%, donations are whatever you choose depending on which perks you want.

I don't understand the parts about Bitminter only being for beginners, or that the support isn't good. We have some miners who have been here since the summer of 2011 when Bitminter opened, and I spend a lot of time helping users whether they are old or new. We also have users helping other users in the chat and in this forum. Oh well.. everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Yes, it is pretty impressive that we now have 430+Th worth of beginners, huh Doc?  Wink

I definitely don't agree with the review either, but like you said, everyone is entitled to their opinion (even if it is wrong...  lol).
