50 sMerits which can be distributed to only Newbies
50 sMerits which can be distributed to only Jr.Members and so on.

Best idea ever.

Gotta give newbie & Jr a better chance.
(I'm more tempted to give Smerit to a much higher ranking member.)

This should stop the people who are 'crying' over not receiving enough merit and pointing fingers towards bias distribution. I haven't gone through this thread, This may have been suggested before if it is I will delete this post right away.

They won’t stop crying and look for another excuse, but at least they gonna smile for a while.

I'm not so sure whether I would go so far as proclaiming that to be "the best idea ever," but assuming that it is a decent idea for some of the source smerits to be limited in their target distribution (at least for a limited time, and perhaps for experimental purposes rather than merely attempting to appease whiners), such proposal seems that it would be a bit of a programming nightmare.  I am NOT a programer, but if you recall, it took a bit of time for theymos to merely get the source merits to replenish properly (30 days from their being given out).

Yes, you need some contents that can be useful and informative for every users here in our forum. Not just any post but a post that can make a good discussion here since it's a forum and that's the purpose of it.

Posting now in Altcoin Discussion is not good at all, some people proclaim the section as one of the place where people do shitposting and spamming so merit sources and other people who look for good posters avoid that section. Creating quality contents and sharing your idea in Meta can also have a possibilities of getting merits (It should be unique and a logic-wise content).

Or maybe helping your own local board with some various topics like forum rules and other stuffs about crypto will also get you a merit. You will exert effort on these things so you need to be wise.

Some of the necessary things that are new to this forum / thread.
All of you who are new people may have opened an account in this forum that only earn money by joining this website or forums and vice versa like Facebook (for example, all are friends, good morning, good night, my day went very well etc.) Posting will only increase the activity. Till then, the house full of money will be gathered. And 80℅ user e posts this idea and activates it. But your idea is wrong because BitQaytak is not a site to earn. This is a forum where discussions about all the cryptococarse currency are discussed. And this is a forum where Seniors are helping the Newbie, and senior citizens are benefiting from this. And yes, this is not the income that can not be earned here because there is a Topicus named Altness in the Cryptocarcane section where various all mmember leave Bounty with different ICO projects where the work is promoted and they are entitled to their ICO project as a replacement. Participates in a specific part to the participants. But yes if you join in this forum for work now, then you will be wrong. Because now you will not have the opportunity or will not get the benefits. So the best for you is to always try to get advice with senior brothers and share what you know as it is a knowledge sharing forum. And you all try to post a unique one so that everyone benefits and it will be beneficial for you ... and if you need help, then do not post spam and ask the help by drawing the attention of the seniors. They hope they will help ...Best of luck✌✌

Is there a way to have a useful article for the community? I always try to use my knowledge to create value for the community but I have not been praised and granted a certificate of merit
Maybe you are posting in a section where spamming are moslty happening like in Bitcoin and Altcoin discussion or maybe it is not meritable since it has been shared many times already.

To be honest, I dont think merit is the first thing you should get here. Merit is useless for me although some will say "Merit is important for ranking up" blah blah. Merit is implemented for the spammers not to rank up that easily. What you must get here is knowledge coming from different users here.

Can I ask what is your main purpose why you need merits Smiley??

tl;dr
Your post is like a wall of shit. Come on, can you please fix how you post Smiley. Nobody will read your post because it is not that pleasant to see. Useless post.

One thing more, can you please see the spelling of your words if they are correct. I dont want to enumerate it one by one since I'm using mobile phone. I hope your next post will not be like this anymore. Use double spacing for readers to read it. Smiley

I have a suggestion that I would like to make. How does a Rank Based sMerit Distribution for merit sources sound? E.g Right now merit sources receive a chunk of sMerits and they can distribute however they like. But what if they received sMerit in the following manner.

50 sMerits which can be distributed to only Newbies
50 sMerits which can be distributed to only Jr.Members and so on.

This should stop the people who are 'crying' over not receiving enough merit and pointing fingers towards bias distribution. I haven't gone through this thread, This may have been suggested before if it is I will delete this post right away.

This would be quite fair for everybody indeed. But would require some work to put in place. Then there is also to consider more pressing problems to solve about merits, like the decrising number in circulation in general, wich could only be mitigated by appointing new merit sources and again, this require time as well.

If a Jr. Member askin' about how to earn merits, his/her purpose is absolutely bounties. They should focus on knowledges about crypto and forum first before hoping to get merits, it's a huge barrier for you guys.

Found a coin thats at least in top 50 by market cap, maybe even between 30-40, yet noone heard about it, and it seems
noone find it interesting. Its not about merit, its about discussion...but where else to post about thing like that?
Most other subforums it would probably be offtopic

No. For the love of dog, no. Meta is for discussing issues with the forum itself, not for shitposters to come ply their shameful trade in the hope of ranking up to increases the bounties.

No this won't be a nightmare at all, It's about just adding a few new variables and some if-else statements. Shouldn't take more than a week to develop this. But since theymos is busy this may take a while to build. Sigh! Only if community development was allowed.

There was a whole thread about that topic. Local subforums are, indeed, the sub-sections where most merit points are awarded. However, I think you'll only get some there if you speak the language well (or if you engage in illegal actions like merit trading).

Altcoin subforums are the second section regarding merit points, but the merit distribution there is very concentrated on what you already found out - original postings in ICO ANNs (which may be "unofficial" parts of bounty campaigns and thus, in reality, "illegal").

The reason that other altcoin posts are not likely to be awarded is simple: There is much spam there. I tried for some weeks to merit posters in the Altcoin Discussion forum that brought up some good contents, but it was so difficult to find good posts that I got bored and gave up. I think merit sources are also not likely to search the few pearls in the amount of trash there.

<…>Just out of curiosity: are there sub forums that usually there’s more merit exchange? I’m more often on the announcements for altcoins and usually only OPs get merit there.

Maybe I should explore more the other places of bitcointalk. Including local language communities. I barely gonto the portuguese and spanish sections.
As @d5000 mentioned above, Local Boards on aggregate constitute the most merited area, but we should consider that we’re aggregating 21 Local Boards here... That’s a large mass we’re aggregating (half of the subsections on all Bitcointalk). There are some local boards which from the overall perspective may seem really merited (Russian, Turkish and Indonesian are amongst the most), but this should be seen as relative to the number of posts on these boards, since the number of total merits on these boards does not reflect this and may be misleading.

Take a look at a post I created not too long ago: Bitcointalk – Posts per Day - evolution during past six months. Specifically checkout a section called "4. Merits per post Ratio". There you will see a column called "Merit/post" which tell us just that. The ratio of each individual local boards is not that great, and certainly does not standout.

<...>

definitely will start explore more the other sides of bitcointalk and contribute.
as DdmrDdmr stated on the linked article: maybe local forums won't be the best place if I'm aiming to earn more merits

according to this image posted

most merits per point are given on the following subjects (ordered):

Serious Discussion
Development and technical discussion
Meta
Bitcoin Technical support

(on the month of june, but with simmilar data to the last 6 months before it (first semester of 2018)

Is there a way to have a useful article for the community? I always try to use my knowledge to create value for the community but I have not been praised and granted a certificate of merit

definitely there is, just try to share valuable information.
for example:
this is my first post that got merited EVER, even though I made quality posts before.

Good Bitcoin Articles (more than 350 articles organized by topics)

it's a gathering of several usefull bitcointalk articles and can definitely be usefull for begginers

<...>

50 sMerits which can be distributed to only Newbies
50 sMerits which can be distributed to only Jr.Members and so on.

This should stop the people who are 'crying' over not receiving enough merit and pointing fingers towards bias distribution. I haven't gone through this thread, This may have been suggested before if it is I will delete this post right away.

definitely a good idea and probably would spread the merits in a more fair way!
totally agree with it

Within the past day or so, the number of merit sources increased from 84 to 120, and the number of smerits per 30 days is 23,045

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources

Is that about 3,000 per month increase in smerits that are possible to be distributed per 30 days?  I cannot find the old number, but wasn't the old 30 day smerit amount around 20k per 30 days?

We cannot see which merit sources were added or what changes were made to the previously designated 84 merit sources, but we might see whether the most recent addition of smerits (and merit sources - around 36 new members serving as merit sources) make any difference to the amount of smerits that get spent on a monthly basis.

A fast search in google seems to confirm it was 19500:

There are 84 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 19500 sMerit per 30 days

Is that about 3,000 per month increase in smerits that are possible to be distributed per 30 days?
Yes (3,545 to be exact).

On average, merit sources(now) have less sMerit compared to what the average was prior to the upgrade/additions:

19,500/84 sources= 232.14 sMerits
23,045/120 sources= 192.04 sMerits

Based on the following comment, it's safe to say that "recently added merit sources(36), have less sMerits compared to those 84 sources":

One thing that wasn't mentioned is that some existing merit sources seem to have gotten a source size increase as well, so there should be much more merit flowing.

there is no such possibility it is not necessary to lie

(( Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text. ))

First, why do you believe it is necessary for you to make your points with bold and Red text?

Second, you seem to be attempting to address points that theymos made in the thread that Jrashid quoted.  Why not raise those points there, and perhaps make them in a bit more reasonable and substantiated way?  If you yell with bold and red, then it is not likely that anyone is going ot want to merit your posts or to give you any credibility, and perhaps just label you as the kind of scammer and spammer that does not deserve to rank up.

How much alt coin diversification is necessary? if you are investing in Bitcoin, then perhaps 0%?

Glad to see this merit requirement for Jr. Members has finally been put in place. Good job, theymos! Smiley

I'm curious to see if this will kill the spam in the infested Bitcoin & Altcoin Discussion forum sections since Newbies cannot display any signatures thus rendering their posts useless to bounty campaigns.

On average, merit sources(now) have less sMerit compared to what the average was prior to the upgrade/additions:

19,500/84 sources= 232.14 sMerits
23,045/120 sources= 192.04 sMerits
That makes sense: some of the old sources have very high amounts, but most send much less than the average. In the last 30 days:

If my counting is correct, my source Merit went up twice until now. It makes sense to start with a relatively low amount, and increase if if the Merit source proves to distribute them properly.
