Just a note to every newbie pushing to get this one dreamed merit.
If you don't read and follow the rules, it is very easy to loose your account, permanently!
Don't feel save when you earn it. Many people are monitoring you and if you don't change your posting behavior this will be inevitable.

I know you gonna say that not every newbie trying to rank up is a shitposter and bla bla, but the percentage of the newbie shitposters vs the valuable newbies is so small that is save to said that pushing-to-rank-up Newbie = Shitposter is a Rule* and every rule has exceptions. If you feel like you are exception then congratulations.

* just some clarification > The fact that I have a higher rank than some of you does't make me better than you with lower ranks. I was also newbie not so long ago, and I know what I've been trough till now. My opinion is based only on the observation of the current forum situation. After the new changes, the statistic might change in a better way, we'll see.

... we are talking about real reasoning for giving/earning Merit vs trashtalk, fomo, fud, bounty posts that this should reduce?
Going bit derailed-Yes, people are here for different reasons, so i guess some are better than others for the community..
No kidding.  Grin
Seriously? You are talking about Merit giving policy?

I don't know from where you have earned so much sMerit to spend, but I noticed one of your latest Merits sent to a known troller for its personal and off-topic attacks ... just stop teaching people. You need a lot of education about what a discussion forum is.

First of all you misquoted my text in order to make your own gobbledy gook and nonsensical points... that seem to come off as trolling rather than attempting to make any kind of meaningful substantive contribution to the discussion.

Second, the sending of smerits remains discretionary, or at least the ones that I have are in my discretion rather than in yours (which your exercise of discretion (judgement) is already questionable based on your responsive post that causes inaccuracies and seeming deceptions).

Third, there are a lot of types who participate in this forum and are permitted to share their information and opinions and to seek feedback from others, and hopefully each of us are attempting to learn from our forum interactive experiences, too.  I have been here long enough to know that you are not the boss of me... hahahahahahaha..... Anyhow, your suggestion about whether or how I should carry out my own posting activities seems to be out of place at best and presumptive in a worser reading, and I even see that you seem to be lacking in good ideas and judgement, too (from my perspective).  Poor thing.  Hopefully, you are participating in this forum to attempt to learn and share information rather than to bark out orders based on your own seemingly limited subjectivity that so far appears to mislead, in what little I have noticed your largely imposition attempting posts.   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Of course, we have to deal with ESG, KYC & AML, but each of them are attack vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.

I really agree with new merit system, im also was a Jr. Member and know im back to Newbie. We ar ICO startup company and we ar publishing ICO announcements and bounty campaigns. Sad point of this is that my announcement posts wats hardly created with pictures and etc., now on middle of ICO the post looks not so good, because all pictures is gone. Whats should i do? cancel the thread or any other good idea?
I can't get merit in short time of period to fix my thread.

We were demoted to newbies due to new merit system. I had read also the https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030366.0  Now I’am changing path to post contructive and quality posts to contribute on this forum. Most of the part I agree with that enhance merit system to reduce spam bots or non-quality posts. I’am also far more concern about the efficiency of sending merits because some may find it easy just to buy them and some may get it easily just because they are rank higher than you by just agreeing on the thread. I am hoping for totally fair and genuine sending of merits to build a harmonious forum.

It is really funny when people blame the system when the majority of fault is on themselves, not because the system. How could people think they are so big that they can blame the system? It is right that ICO and Bounty system is shit, but do you think if the system is good then people will follow that good rules? No, because human will always find the easiest way to do something and will always find a loophole in to the system. But imagine if the human is already a great person, even in a shit system he/she will be a great person and will not abuse the loophole in te rules.

Illustration/scenario :

1. There is a bank which has a greatest security in the world but all of money in the world is in there. If there is an evil and bad people, they will try to overcome that security system to rob that money, even it is a hard task.

2. There is a bank with shit security system and has all the money in the world. If there is no evil and bad people, only good people, then the bank will be safe and won't need to upgrade their system at all.

Can you see the different here? This forum problem is there are a lot of bad people who just want to milk money from the forum.

All true. The only question for me here: why did this rule apply retroactivelly?

For the beginner it will be right to earn at least 1 merit on their own. Buy - not be difficult, the price of the issue is low. But agree - to earn merit on their own and to understand that your ideas or thoughts brought the result is a much nice and better. Those who buy-use its rank " Jr."only for the bounty and, accordingly, will quickly make up for their investment, the forum will get a small payment. Beginners don't need to be consumers, they need to be producers of useful information to generate it . I am sure that among the beginners-a lot of smart and educated people who are able to help with their thoughts and develop not only the forum but also the entire cryptocurrency industry.

I like your thread but hate to see such aggorant higher ranks like your images shown.
However, I support the ideas of Theymos to require at least 1 merit to become a Junior member.
Furthermore, restricting ability to wear signature to only Junior rank and above is amazing, which is much helpful to stop spammers walking around the forum and showing their shits to earn money.

In our society there are good and bad people as well. However, in many jurisdictions a rule/law that imposes panishment/stricter terms does not apply retroactively.
Sorry, if I misunberstood your reference.

As for bounties, I do not know why some of them ask to do separate posts per week and post here at all - there are other ways to report the work done without this forum.

In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member301
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000

You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.

Certain users are designated as "merit sources". They can create new merit out of nothing, up to a limited number per month (which differs per source). I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

Useful infographics

Forum users have helpfully created some infographics to explain the merit system:
paxmao's infographic
ibminer's infographic
8Habits's infographic
JetSet11's infographic
zentdex's infographic
alia_armelle's infographic

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Trivia:

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.

If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point.

There are stats here, and you can find someone's merit summary by clicking the "merit" link on their profile.

Interestingly, you track how much more Merit was given, those who did not have it.

I think this will only delay the spam for a while, because starting from August 17, 2018. according to my observations, the number of Merit transfers has increased, before this was not!

Or do you think that posts and comments have become better Huh

Once again, Theymos have made great initiative to improve the forum in general.
At least in terms of preventing spammers posting around, showing their shit, and easily taking their free money.
Most of spammers will be newbies for months and can not wear signature, can not join bounties.

Likely you are referring to the spending of smerits increasing on September 17, 2018 rather than August 17, 2018, correct?

On September 16, theymos increased the number of merit sources and the number of merits per 30 days, which could have accounted for some of the increase spike.

I doubt that post quality is going to suddenly become better, but it is likely that post quality has increased somewhat from the January 2018 implementation of the merit system and will likely increase further from the most recent September 16, 2018 revision that created the 1 merit requirement to rank up to Jr. Member.

Of course, we have to deal with ESG, KYC & AML, but each of them are attack vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.

After the new system, the newbie to legendary member are feeling that.

Yeah!! But also this system made many people to leave this forum being lack of enough knowledge which made those people angry. Why they didn't get a merit!!
I've noticed that many people now trying to deal with merit holders for merit. They are offering money for merits but that's awful. Even some people asking [" How I will post to get merit? ", "Please make a post for me", " I will give you what you want but please bring me just one merit " ]  Grin
But you (Brand new/Newbie) don't try to ask this type of asking. Cause it's worthless, only the scammers are do this type of things and theymos decided to change the system only for stopping the scammers. So, For getting merit don't try a shit/scamming way, get more knowledge about this forum and try to obey all the rules. Then make posts for helping other and discuss freely which will bring you merit for your skill  Wink and sure stay aware from the scammers Smiley
