Were there issues with CloudFlare in Europe? For the last week I've seen a slower then normal response time (avg over 500ms) on API calls, it usually hovers around 220ms from my location. This started the 23rd and suddenly this morning it was over, after several HTTP/1.1 502 Bad Gateway: Kraken - Website Unavailable errors. Any ideas?
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Huh, well that's pretty interesting. Kraken surprises me yet again. Looked at the order book but it is still empty. Was there an official announcement about this?

just got off the chat with kraken support and learned

the new maker/taker fee model will be switched on at 12am UTC on 1st of Aug. , that's in less than 12 hours.

I noticed a quite positive sentiment regarding Kraken lately, and the smarter fee structure should definitely help to boost volume.

It sounds like there was a miscommunication here, because I don't think anyone on our support team intended to confirm 12am UTC Aug 1 as the exact time the new fees will start. I'm checking to see if we can give a precise time, but don't assume it will be 12am UTC.

Dargo:
FYI, It was Robert I had that chat with, I didn't ask for the exact time of when the new fees are getting active. He mentioned it by himself, and said he would even send a note over to a dev to see if they can put a hint up on kraken site that visitors/traders get reminded of new fees being active once they are.

I guess you want to change the link under HELP/FEES which currently points to the old fees.

OK, the new fees are now live, so pretty close to 12am UTC. You should see the correct maker/taker fee displayed in your account, but the fee page on our site still needs to be updated.

We hope everyone enjoys the new fee structure!

By popular demand, we've switched the #ethereum-#bitcoin pair to ETH/XBT (BTC).  The old XBT/ETH order book has been removed, orders wiped.

I've got to admit it was odd to place orders as XBT/ETH ... I didn't mind too much, but this is probably better for everyone.

Sure makes more sense to see it as ETH/XBT Smiley good job by Kraken!

A feature that i would truly love: in the creation of a SEPA withdrawal request, a countdown that show if the wire will be processed on the same day on the day after. (Like what is currently happening on amazon when you're placing an order)

We currently have an issue with BTC deposits not crediting to accounts even though they have enough confirmations. We are working to fix it, but don't have an ETA at this time.

24h Trading Volume bitfinex: 8,843BTC
24h Trading Volume  kraken: 4,256BTC

--> kraken has currently 48% of the TV of bitfinex!

1. Congratulations!
2. What are the reasons? I see three:

  • The kraken team did a fabulous job since they established in 2013 with great serving to the community and their customers.
  • The recent reduction in trading fees at kraken surely helped to push the TV at least 20-25%. This is important in a world of network effects.
  • bitfinex and kraken trading seems to differ a little: I observe trading at bitfinex to be much more driven by speculation while it is less so on kraken. That translates into a more solid trading base at kraken -- even on calm days. On the other hand this means lower spikes in TV when markets get rough.

The idea behind the last point is that the Trading Volume (TV) is a function depending on a Base Rate (BR) and Market Volatility (V):
TV = BR + x*V,
where x is the factor of speculative trading at a site. My hypothesis is that kraken has a, relatively speaking, much higher base rate than finex, but a much smaller x.

This would mena that in rough times, the TV of kraken is more like 20% of that on finex, and >40% on calm days.
