The thing to think about here is how many TD’s would Blachowicz attempt in this match?  I’m not looking at the stats right now but judging from his last fights, on top of my head maybe 3 TD’s at most...?  If so, I don’t think coming in lighter would be a problem for Adesanya.  But if Blachowicz is coming in with a wrestling heavy game plan, Adesanya is dead.  He’ll be rag dolled around the cage.  Lol.
I see where your coming from, generally Jan isn't that heavy in the wrestling department, but that's usually because hes against opponents which have similar mobility, and striking capability. I generally believe that Adesanya walking into this fight is easily the hardest opponent Jan will face in terms of striking, so surely you would expect Jan to test Adesanya by simply imposing his frame onto him. Adesanya has great takedown defense, and I believe that's what this fight boils down too. Either Jan absolutely man handles Izzy on the mat, or Adesanya out strikes him all night long.

Weigh-ins are happening right now... live! Grin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h4sjfwwdMA

Almost missed them since am busy at work but just caught it in time for nunes.
She looked in good form.

They were saying if Adesanya weights in under 200lbs that would more like him.
But I think he needs to be under the 205lbs limit so to fight as a light heavy weight.

And we have the weigh-in results

Light heavyweight championship: Jan Błachowicz (205) vs. Israel Adesanya (200.5)

Featherweight championship: Amanda Nunes (145) vs. Megan Anderson (144.5)

Bantamweight championship: Petr Yan (135) vs. Aljamain Sterling (134.5)

Lightweight: Islam Makhachev (156) vs. Drew Dober (156)

Light heavyweight: Thiago Santos (206) vs. Aleksandar Rakic (206)

Bantamweight: Dominick Cruz (136) vs. Casey Kenney (136)

Bantamweight: Song Yadong (135.5) vs. Kyler Phillips (136)

Flyweight: Joseph Benavidez (125.5) vs. Askar Askarov (127)*

Flyweight: Kai Kara-France (125.5) vs. Rogerio Bontorin (126)

Flyweight: Tim Elliott (125.5) vs. Jordan Espinosa (126)

Light heavyweight: Carlos Ulberg (205) vs. Kennedy Nzechukwu (205.5)

Welterweight: Sean Brady (170.5) vs. Jake Matthews (169.5)

Strawweight: Livinha Souza (116) vs. Amanda Lemos (116)

Lightweight: Uros Medic (156) vs. Aalon Cruz (155)

Bantamweight: Trevin Jones (134.5) vs. Mario Bautista (135.5)

*Askar Askarov missed weight by 1 lb.

(all info is taken from Bloody Elbow)

The Dominator on the prelims, it just hurts in them feels every time I see it. Also, a few other fighters to watch besides the main card: Kai Kara-France and Joseph Benavidez.

One day left and I can't wait for event to start!
Very entertining press conference and face-offs with many sparks between Russian Petr Yan and American Aljamain Sterling and that is promising a good fight.
I have to be honest and say that I will support Megan Anderson as mega-underdog against Amanda Nunes, just because she looks like a tall giant compared to Amanda and there is zero value in betting on champ.

Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem are released from UFC contracts (https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2021/03/ufc-news-junioe-dos-santos-alistair-overeem-no-longer-roster-departure-part-ways).

What do you think about it? Will they sign contracts with Bellator or will retire?

I would say that both should retire, but I also have seen a number of their recent interviews and they seemed not to think about retirement. Now, I think they would still be competitive in some other promotions, and I would argue that Bellator would not be a good choice for them. One championship has a really shallow HW division and the budget and need for well-known fighters, and Alistair has already made a name for himself in Japan, so a smarter move would be to seek out One before going to Bellator or PFL. However...and this just pains me to think...but JDS, in particular, could end up in Bare Knuckle Fighting. I am not sure I want to see that.

Ah yes, just as I predicted, Uberreem got a call from BKFC and JDS is not far behind https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2021/3/5/22316100/ufc-mma-news-bare-knuckle-fighting-championship-bkfc-alistair-overeem-junior-dos-santos-contract

I must have missed the story of where does BKFC gets so much funding to be able to afford all of those fighters (And via Paige Van Zant, they get a lot more). Not the best option for those two, I still think that One would be better suited for their swan song. JDS will look like a car crash after a BKFC fight due to all of his scaring.

Sterling played his part because he knows he'll win if the fight stops due to an illegal strike but it's really a huge mistake by Yan. He probably thought he's behind the scorecards and wanting to finish strong. I'm sure there will be a rematch between these two. Yan was winning in the later rounds.

It is getting crazy as the main event is next. Amanda Nunes is the best in the world and her domination is incredible and she is not having a challenger in two weight division which is really crazy to think.

Aljamain Sterling had many ways to win the fight but i did not anticipate this title change by disqualification  Cheesy.

The walk out of Israel Adesanya with Bruce Lee music  Shocked. I placed some smalls bets on Jan Błachowicz as well, lets see  Cheesy.

Unexpected result (Jan by unanimous decision) but I will definitely take that Grin The judges scores were quite odd though (49-46, 49-45, 49-45). The fight was closer than it looks (maybe 48-47). I guess championship rounds counts the most in a closely contested match.

I almost forgot...Jones is probably throwing a party right now.

Amanda Nunes is the best in the world and her domination is incredible and she is not having a challenger in two weight division which is really crazy to think.
Amanda Nunes earned her respect finally as she dominated everyone she faced and her only challenge will be Valentina Shevchenko which i thought won the fight when they faced last time even though the split decision went to Amanda Nunes and i am expecting that fight this year if Valentina Shevchenko is willing to move up for a champ champ battle.

Aljamain Sterling had many ways to win the fight but i did not anticipate this title change by disqualification  Cheesy.
Aljamain Sterling was slowing down after his high octane performance in the first two rounds and Petr Yan got some bad advice from his corner about that knee in Russian and hence he landed that from what i understood from the post fight commentary by Daniel Cormier.

The walk out of Israel Adesanya with Bruce Lee music  Shocked. I placed some smalls bets on Jan Błachowicz as well, lets see  Cheesy.
Finally Israel Adesanya can focus on the Middle Weight division and stop dreaming about beating Jon Jones as he will murder him  Cheesy.

I almost forgot...Jones is probably throwing a party right now.
Jon Jones would have killed him in the fight and he wanted to punish him for all the antics he made in social media and he was vocal about it and now it is hard to imagine we will have that fight ever again. Jones will trash him in social media but i am sure he wanted to fight Adesanya to beat him up for the mocking in social media.

Let Jones have his day on social media but I hope he doesn't lose his first fight at HW. If he doesn't impress in his new weight division, I can see him going back to LHW, taking the belt from Jan, and then facing Israel. We'll see more social media taunting when that happens.

I saw a short clip of him training and he looked slow and uncomfortable with that added mass.

Congrats by the way.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people lost money on Stake's offer for Israel to win by KO/TKO. I'm glad I didn't take it after some pondering.

Yes it was interesting because there was another special offer on going "split decision money back" https://promotions.stake.com/ufc-split-decision/ that refunds your losing bet in case of split decision (and also a 5k$ give away for that UFC https://promotions.stake.com/5k-ufc-giveaway/ )
Unfortunately the big Jan won by unanimous decision  Embarrassed

Glad that Petr Yan says appologies in post fight conference. Im sure that knee was unintended, just a battle rush. I think Petr was winning that fight or it was close. And if not dc, he would have won.

Adesanya - Jan was a close fight. But, as Jac is a champ and Adesanya is a contender, Adesanya should have done 200% to win the fight, because in such close fights, judges gives a win always to a champ. In this fight Adesanya shows his usual tactics, and in pre-fight he said his tactics would be avoiding heavy strikes. Well, you cant beat the champ with avoiding and hoping to counter-strike.

Nunes - as expected  Grin

Islam Makhachec - Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov schools students are still unbeatable Smiley

Jon Jones’ next fight will certainly be in heavyweight. He has already dumped the light heavyweight championship like a founder of an ICO hehehe. Why would he return to fight for the belt that he never lost? I speculate that it might also be versus Cyril Gane after his win hehe.
Jon Jones is moving up and focusing on the Heavyweight belt but moving up when you face one punch knockout fighters is not going to be easy and Jon Jones never had one punch knockout power throughout his career and you cannot generate that kind of power all of a sudden by adding some weight, i am curious how he is going to fight in the Heavyweight division with his high fight IQ and his skill level to make changes during a fight and somehow defeat the opponent and avoid these heavy strikers with his long reach.

Waiting for next event and Adesanya kicking some polish ass.
Polish power check mated with ease and the ground skills of Isreal Adesanya was on full display  Tongue.

~
Well if you have your own wife as your manager like in case of Błachowicz then sorry but I can't say you are a real professional fighter,
and saying Adesanya with perfect 100% record has zero ground game, is such a bs not worth even responding.
How was the ground game of Isreal Adesanya, so a fighter who is not a real professional can defeat Adesanya  Grin.

Blachowitz has eight defeats so far, lost from many fighters like Thiago Santos, Patrick Cummins, Gustafsson, Corey Anderson, Jimi Manuwa...  and he would never be a champion with Jon Jones staying in this division.
That is the truth and I would add that he is not very intelligent fighter at all, strong yes, intelligent no.
If you are so sure in his game than bet on him please, I see odds are very nice Smiley
Once again these accolades and defeats does not matter when you move up and if you watch the difference in performance by Jan Błachowicz in his past two fights you would have noticed what i was really talking about. And i made multiple bets in the main event and a win by submission was the only loss i had in the bet today in the main event Grin. The intelligence was on full display by Jan Błachowicz when he took him down in the final two rounds and dominated and made sure he owned the rounds, that is what you call fight intelligence and now it is time to show some respect to the champion  Wink.

Just went back just for fun to point out what i was talking about and i am a Isreal Adesanya fight fan and i love his fighting style but moving up half assed thinking it will be an easy fight and can nurture his ego in the Jon Jones game plan will not help him as a fighter and now he learned why Jon Jones did not move up in division for 10 years and Jan Błachowicz is in his element even though he had a bad start in his career with many close defeats and the holes i was talking about Isreal Adesanya was exposed now but in the Middle Weight division he can handle his own in wrestling and there is no debate about that.

Congrats by the way.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people lost money on Stake's offer for Israel to win by KO/TKO. I'm glad I didn't take it after some pondering.
Yes i saw many placing huge bets and my huge bet in the main event was above 2.5 rounds which i thought was an easy bet considering the toughness of these fighters and i had multiple bets on different option and it was a fun card and i was hyped up for the main event.

Glad that Petr Yan says appologies in post fight conference. Im sure that knee was unintended, just a battle rush. I think Petr was winning that fight or it was close. And if not dc, he would have won.
It was disappointing as Petr Yan could have won the fight if not for that disqualification and i am waiting for the rematch.

Adesanya - Jan was a close fight. But, as Jac is a champ and Adesanya is a contender, Adesanya should have done 200% to win the fight, because in such close fights, judges gives a win always to a champ.
The fight was not close, the first round Jan Błachowicz won easily and the second and third rounds were close and fourth and 5th round Jan Błachowicz dominated completely and one is a 10-8 round for him and how you can you call that a close fight.

I saw a short clip of him training and he looked slow and uncomfortable with that added mass.

And that's the only way that fight can happen in the future because there is no stock on Izzy's name regarding superfights. Does Jones need to win the LHW title back to have a superfight? No, I don't think so, it will actually have to be Adesanyawho will have to round up some title defenses in his division to have any bargaining material. Then they might do it for the money and not the belt in the LHW division.

Sterling played his part because he knows he'll win if the fight stops due to an illegal strike but it's really a huge mistake by Yan. To be fair, Nunes is the best, but this division is as shallow as it gets and Anderson was not really a contender, she was just the ONLY contender, so this win does nothing for Nunes.

Sterling played his part? And what was he supposed to do? Muscle it out? Dust himself off and be a man? FFS this ain't BKFC or those backyard fights in Florida. It's all on Yan, Sterling did the only thing that was right to do. I don't care if he was hurt or not, it was an illegal knee to a downed opponent.

I don't think Dana White really cares about so called challenging legitimacy of fighters to organize bouts. If he thinks there will be an audience and a way to make big money he will set up the stuff, don't worry.

Someone help me understand here...Israel Adesanya was challenging for the light heavyweight  championship as he was bidding to become a two division champion (light heavyweight + middleweight) but how did the bookies have Israel Adesanya  to be the favourite for the match against defending champion Jan Blachowicz in the light heavyweight division?
I know it was a close match  and it would have gone either way but wasn't Adesanya out of his element Roll Eyes anyway better luck next time Israel 🥊

Israel Adesanya was a dominant champion in the Middle weight division and he was undefeated and normally when an undefeated champion goes up in weight it will create a hype and so is the reason why Jan Blachowicz was overlooked by many is because they never respected his skills and thought he was a champion because Jon Jones vacated the title and that is how the odds are generated by the odds makers.

Amanda Nunes is the GOAT and they way in which she finishes fights is incredible and there is no other challenger in two divisions but i am hoping Julianna Peña will be her next opponent.

Sterling played his part because he knows he'll win if the fight stops due to an illegal strike but it's really a huge mistake by Yan. He probably thought he's behind the scorecards and wanting to finish strong. I'm sure there will be a rematch between these two. Yan was winning in the later rounds.

edit: Nunes is the best  Grin

Yan was dominating Sterling imho.  I could see no way Sterling was winning the match if it went to the score cards.  The illegal knee was pure stupidity on Yan’s part and pure stupidity on Yan’s corner.  I mean he’s a pro.  These things shouldn’t happen in by far the most important bout of his career.

I was really surprised by the coldness of Nunes, it was a really very fast combat, here strength is not measured so much but talent, mastery of techniques, Jiu Jitsu is one of the martial arts that with little force achieves much more than give more blows and see blood, the Adesanya thing has gained experience, it is not bad when you have a failure, I think that Adesanya will prepare much more. At some point we will see a rematch.

In Jan's statements he said that it would have been better if the KO, but it was not, the 1st Round was pure knowledge of each other, they studied their movements, Adesanya chose to move away, that was his strategy, he must work more on how to defend himself better when on the floor, maybe more Jiu Jitsu techniques.
