Yeah in absence of Pant and Shreyas, selectors hardly have any choice in the batting lineup. KL did fine on his last tour of England so maybe that's why he's on the roaster. I'd have liked if Kishan was there with the gloves as keeping is not tough in England. He could've become like for like replacement in absence of Pant.

I won't even mind if KL keeps the glove for 1 test as it would give them another batter option in the playing XI. Kinda surprised to see 3 frontline spinners in the squad, bowling combination would be tough to select.

My hypothetical team would be Rohit, Gill, Pujara, Kohli, KL (WK) Axar (as pure batter), Jadeja, Ashwin, Lord Thakur, Shami and Siraj.

Batting deep with Thakur coming at number 9 and that means 6 bowling options (3 spin all-rounder + 1 seam all-rounder + 2 seam option)

WTC second final and India second time going to play this with first lost against New Zealand and now having Australia as opponent which is surely not easy game for them specially as we are heading for England again; hopefully in near future we will be having some changes and other countries will be also able to host WTC final because it is also important here. I am not understanding about the inclusion of three spinners because in England this has never been ideal situation for spinners; here I agreed if we have Rahul as wicket keeper this will help them for having another batsman which is important in these conditions.

My probable team would be Rohit, Gill, Pujara, Kohli, KL (WK) Axar (as batter and parttime spinner), Jadeja, Ashwin, Lord Thakur, Shami and Siraj. Completely agreed with your this team in current circumstances because this could be the best available team which can do better performance, and we can feel positive from them about positive result at least on this second attempt.

Balbirine played exceptionally well scoring 95 runs with the help of 14 fours, coming just 5 runs short of a century. Curtis Campher and Stirling also showcased their batting prowess, both scoring well deserved centuries which contributed to a formidable total of 492 runs for Ireland. Sri Lanka, in response, started their innings strongly, with a score of 81 runs without losing any wicket led by Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka. Ireland bowlers will need to work hard to break through Srilanka strong start and take wickets to limit the trailing runs.

I am not at all surprised by the performance of Ireland's middle-order players. This is the kind of performance I expected from Ireland's middle order. Because I saw their performance against Bangladesh. Even on a bowling friendly pitch, they batted responsibly and collected big. Sri Lanka's bowling line-up was not very strong, and the pitch was batting friendly. However, Ireland played well. Sri Lanka's two openers are also playing well. Sri Lanka scored 81 runs without losing any wickets. If Ireland plays well in the second innings, the match will surely be a draw.

I doubt KL would become a WK when we know Bharat is the official one. Thakur can bat but I haven't seen him batting in the test format. The recent performance of Rahane in IPL helped him to get a berth in the test team.

If the rain stays away then there is a big possibility of at least 1 collapse on day-4, it's actually common in Lanka.

Let's say SL bats for another 100-120 overs and if the pitch remains relatively flat for tomorrow then it's possible for the Lankans to touch the opposition's scorning mark. Traditionally it starts turning at Galle from day 3 but i doubt if the Irish team got any competent spinner so 4th day would be crucial if SL starts bowling in the 2nd session. The result is possible, given rain call it a night for the next 3 days.

Apart from Andy McBrine and Paul Stirling, the two other spinners in the Irish XI are relatively inexperienced (Matthew Humphreys and Ben White) and given the condition of the track so far and the performance from the Sri Lankan batsmen yesterday, it looks unlikely that Ireland will walk away with a first innings lead. Pace attack also looks quite ordinary. Thunderstorms are predicted for the next three days, and even if a few dozen overs are lost to rain interruption, it will reduce the chances of getting an outcome from this match to near zero.

We generally know that the opposition bowlers can handle the ball better after being set on the wicket as two of the Sri Lankan batsmen were set on the wicket on the second day so Ireland were unable to get them out. But when the two Sri Lankan batsmen start fresh on a new wicket today, it will be very difficult for them to deal with the balls from Ireland's bowlers.

This series has turned out to be great for Sri Lankan batsmen to improve there batting records. Dimuth Karunaratne who scored 179 runs in last test was able to score 115 runs today. Ireland batting has gone a good job but its there bowling that failed to produce any good results. Sri Lanka are going with 4.5 runs per over and have scored 322 runs so far. This match is likely to end in a draw provided Ireland batting doesn't collapsed in second innings. Sri Lanka trail by 168 runs and that trail will be over by day end.

It is a terrible pitch for bowlers and you cannot do anything with a flat wicket like that and usually by the fourth and fifth day the pitch will start cracking up and the spinners will be having a field day picking wickets. If not for the rain interruption Sri Lanka would taken a substantial lead and would have picked all the wickets on the final day but with the weather is question it might end in a draw.

Certainly, because I already know the outcome. This is obviously going to be a draw between both teams. No way we are going to find a result from this match.

Sri Lanka would easily take a lead today if the game wasn't interrupted by rain. A session was lost today for the bad light and rain. Bad light had also created an impact in the match on day 2. Now we shouldn't expect anything else than a draw from this batting friendly pitch condition. Sri Lanka still has a little chance to win the match. They have to finish day 4 with a good lead, then they need to allow Ireland to play their second innings on the final day. But there is pretty high chance of rain in the next two days.
