For Dogie, regarding my issue,

I have power cycled, rebooted, checked connections, reset to defaults, reloaded firmware,, and still cant seem to get these chips to pop up,,

out of the 11 that we have this is the only issue. we have 9 more on the way, should get them today!

RMA time.

I also need to RMA an S4 with a dead hash board.

What's the quickest, most painless way to RMA? Bitmain China, Bitmain USA? I've spent the weekend troubleshooting it, and it's 100% fucked. I don't feel like screwing around sending emails back and forth with bitmain while they ask me to go through troubleshooting steps which I've already done multiple times.

I'm also getting a little pissed that they are ignoring me when it comes to the compensation they owe me, but have already paid others. Emailing Yoshi has been useless, he's also ignoring me.

To achieve this, you need an additional power supply.
the second power supply wiring from the first to power the the top 2 cards.
Total consumption by wattmeter 2120-2200 watts.
a second power supply must be at least 1000 watts

Sorry for my english

Also I noticed people talking about pools,, we use miningrigrentals to rent our gear but when it isnt rented,, My favorite pool to use is Bitcoin Affiliate Network,

They have ports specifically for difficulty *2048* so if you choose the proper port for your miners you dont have to worry about the share Diff as it is locked in.

They also pay per share so your not waiting on the pool to find a block to get paid,, they pay every 2 hrs per share,, and they are paying 10% OVER as a bonus.

Try changing your power cord and see if that helps. My other 2 S4 arrived yesterday and one unit was behaving exactly like yours. I opened it up, check, double check connections, the chips just won't come on. And sometimes they do and they die off. I don't know why, but somehow I have a weird feeling it's power related, so I change the power cord to a larger guage cable.. boot it and up.. tadaa.. all the chips came back. But that unit is still acting weird though. Actually, infact, the 2 units I receive yesterday are acting weird, just like when my 1st S4 came. But now that 1st one is running very very well.  Maybe the other 2 just needs a little run in like the first. But for sure, the other 2 units are getting more hw errors than the first.

Something wierd going on with my s4. Im mining on nicehash, and every few hours I log into the console, it says speed: 0ghz, then I go to the led display and its got some random slow speed like 650ghs. I shut it down and reboot and it instantly returns to 2Ths...for an hour or two, then I have to keep shutting it down, not even a software reboot through console will fix it...any ideas? I also have the latest firmware: Thu Oct 16. Cgminer 4.6.1 .

Thanks in advance

Vegas

Its not your miners, its NiceHash - they are switching coins on you.  That causes your Diff to go very low (at least for an S4), the S4 resyncs than cranks up again.  The 650 is the average while your diff crawls up.

At least I've been seeing something very similar when I use the normal ports over on multicoinpool.org...

Try switching to antpool, just as a test, and see if things stabilize.

Cassey

So I mined on Antpool last night and stayed at 2ths all night. So, this miner does not do well with multipools. Funny thing is I own an S1 and it does fine with multipools. Is there any known fix for the S4 and multipools. The reason I ask is because I have mined 19 hours with 2 Ths on antpool and it says btc earned 0.015. So by my math I will be earning .02 BTC +/- a day for 2THs?? That about right? Somethings not right because on the MMXIV multipool I was earning 1.2 coins a day and they are worth .03 BTC and thats with me reseting my miner 10 times a day. I know the payouts flutcuate because its all based on luck but this is a VERY wide spread. Does ANYONE have any ideas how to stabalize the S4 on multipools?

Vegas

I want to make sure everyone knows that I just released my software called "Yobit pump alert". THis is custom software that uses an algo to detect the start of a pump here on yobit, the second it starts. YOu can even filter the coins you see by price. Most pumps start less than 100 sats , so you can easily filter the cheap coins, so they are the only ones displayed Smiley https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1945937.msg20241953#msg20241953

Find a multipool that allows you to set a min diff of at least 2048 will help.  multicoinpool.org is working on that but it isn't up yet.

Found the solution to the S4 problem with multipools. Nicehash specifically addresses this issue with a modified Cgminer 4.71 dated Nov 22nd 2014. I looked at the instructions and was hoping it was as simple as upgrading the firmware, but its not. Its WAYY over my head. Scroll down near the bottom of the page to where it talks about the different model Antminers including the S4 See: https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=software#cgminer . Im hoping someone can read this and take their image, and make it so noobs like me can just use the upgrade firmware option in our miners.

It's all going to be based on Luck and how much hashing is done by the pool. To compare the 2 that I have used Antpool and BTC Guild.

From Nov 18th-24th Antpool has found 55 blocks using approx 20 PH/s and BTC Guild has found 62 blocks using approx 16 PH/s. It all based on luck but the more PH/s is running the more likely you are to find a block a little faster, but also keep in mind the more PH/s the pool is running, the lesser your share payout will be. I just got my S4 up and running Saturday and i spent 24 hours on Antpool and earned 0.0154 bitcoin and 48 hours on BTC Guild has earned me 0.032 with some pending shifts yet to payout. My 24-hour earning on BTC Guild is showing 0.02 right now, but that will probably go down because today's luck has not been that good and we've only got 2 blocks today.

ok found another way for now.. that I remembered with my S2. For multipools that use a wallet address as your worker I added a +1.1 after my wallet id. So for an S4 your worker name might look like MiG8iwMSsaGVN7pkfBJmoKSxvZ2YB5sdAw+2.3

So Im going to test it on the MMXIV multipool and see if it holds. This forces a manual difficulty. Frankly I hate mining bitcoin because its feast or famine. I bought the S4 specifically to mine on multipools that do NOT payout in BTC thats why getting my S4 working on the altcoin multipools is sooo important to me.

Edit: That +2.3 might be too high. In my S4 console its showing a "diff 16.4k" . That seem high? What is a good diff setting?

2K (2048) seems to be the recommended difficulty for a 2TH/s miner.

2K (2048) seems to be the recommended difficulty for a 2TH/s miner.

Just to demystify "diff" for those that may not know:  you can think of it as simply how often the hardware goes back to the pool asking for work.  For a beast like the S4, going back say 1000 times a second will mean its starved for work (a low diff) and why it doesn't report doing much processing.  Apparently 2048 (and diff is always a power of 2) suffices to allow the S4 to actually work most of the time.  A higher diff, like 16284 (just 3 doublings from 2048) simply mean the pool is handing work over 1/8th as often (and 8 times as much work) as it did at 2048.

Most dynamic diff pools play with the assigned worker diff so that it "checks in" about once every 15 seconds.

The only downside to a high diff is the potential for wasted work.   A GOOD pool will notify all workers when a block is found and immediately assign new work, a bad pool won't.  Even with the best of intentions, your hardware may submit shares after the pool knows a block was found (say 0.1 second after that happened), in which case you get the "stale shares" message.

-----------------Some S4's have J7 Chain1 Voltage Problem-----------------

Working progress........
i did sniff S4 data exchange and i have some ideas for that.
on J7 connector Tx pin connected to the FPGA. This Tx pin didnt tell to pic12F1822 voltage parameters on boot. tell only bulk data
you can see on my pics. data is 192, @, 128, 0 (it cant be true) consistently followed until controller giving hash work. That is not clean TX data on the boot and i2c is missing. You can see others I2C data for 4 buck controller on each hash board from pic mcu. So i cant find electronic problem. it seems to be FPGA program timing failure or beagleboneblack software problem. (read browser header for picture names)
and this i2c data for 0680 Volt configuration you seen.

Well, i dont buy S4 again...
poor assembly(weak screws),
used devices(lot of dust in fans when it come)
lots of technical problems(blowed psus, some hash boards showing wrong temperature,J7 Voltage problem...)
noisy device
i can say alot etc..

BTC Guild fee is 2% per their site unless I'm missing something..

https://www.btcguild.com/index.php?page=support&section=howamirewarded

"((Block Value + Transaction Fees) / 10) - Pool Fee (2%)"

I like the antpool 0%, but I seemed to get far more rejected shares with antpool 1.5% vs only 0.5% on btc guild, and antpool doesn't give me near the metrics that btc guild does. If antpool could give me some metrics like shares contributed and rejected and what percentage of each block I'm receiving I would probably switch back. Antpool, please give me something more than just my hash rate and give me some numbers to back up what I'm getting paid. Perhaps even give a little description on how your payout structure works??

When I used it, was still 3% ,  but it was some time ago.

Yes, you are wrong!

They are discussing how S4's are reacting to different pools.

The topic is still on S4's, dude!

You must not have done much reading or you are letting knowledge puff your head up.
