1881  Other / Meta / [Serious] Avatar Rules Discussion on: April 04, 2015, 03:50:52 AM
The other thread is still discussing gif memes so I thought I'd start a [serious] thread. We should discuss avatar rules / conventions in advance of issues arrising. Here are some discussion points to start us off. I'll add more as they're suggested.

1) Is nudity allowed? If so, to what extreme? To a non nsfw tag?
2) Is NSFL allowed? [NSFL = Not Safe For Life]
3) Is other adult content allowed?
4) Are paid avatar campaigns allowed?
5) Is copyright content allowed? How should copyright holders request deletion of infringing content?
6) Is racial / sexist content allowed?
7) Is there a limit on 'annoyingness'?
8 ) Are 'imitation' avatars allowed? Ie wearing avatars of specific companies to give the false impression of representation.
9) How should users report those with infringing avatars?
1882  Other / Meta / Re: Please remove the Digital Goods section on: April 04, 2015, 02:55:35 AM
Isn't the immediate solution to clean up the section and then reevaluate?

Maybe, but there's so much to be removed - I just don't think they're going to do that.

Especially if closing the section will simply move the toxicity to another subforum.

It should be considered spam in other subforums.

If we combine both your statements, then all that would happen is the "spam" is going to move to other subforums, where its equally not going to be dealt with. That doesn't help us.
1883  Other / Meta / Re: Please remove the Digital Goods section on: April 04, 2015, 02:35:08 AM
Most offers in Digital Goods are related to cracked user accounts and illegally obtained software keys.

Maybe 10% of all posts in Digital Goods are related to legitimate offers so it's not worth keeping this section.

Isn't the immediate solution to clean up the section and then reevaluate? Especially if closing the section will simply move the toxicity to another subforum.
1884  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: April 03, 2015, 10:45:00 PM
.... I wish a company made a copper option with heatpipes,  could make a huge difference for overclocking.

Should not be that hard to fabricate on your own .... just need to find out what thickness of the copper slab to get, slice some slots / channels in it and then split a few copper tubes to for the fins that are slid into the slots. All you are left to do is drilling tapped holes for attaching the PCB. I wonder how cost efficient it would be though for just a handful of units ..... ?

Doesn't sound that easy to me. Unless you have a machine shop and all the tools necessary as well as the skills to do properly. Grin

Heatpipes aren't something you can do yourself easily, they're not very use friendly to craft. Generally though, there wouldn't be much point making extreme stock heatsinks which add $40 and 400g of weight to everyone elses shipments when their additional capacity is going to be used by very few.
1885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is the Hashra company still active in this forum? no more hardware support? on: April 03, 2015, 10:40:24 PM
If you encounter problems, you can post them here and other members and I can try our best with the info we know.
1886  Other / Meta / Re: DDoS on: April 03, 2015, 10:10:03 AM
so there is a kiddie i guess trying to waste his time attacking this forum :/

i think there will be a log in which IP the attacker used in attacking, maybe blocking his IP can fix this?

It is a DDOS attack, do you know how it works? Multiply request to the site at the site time (you cannot stop the attack with a simple block to one or two ip).

Especially when the attack is via a redirection vector.
1887  Other / Meta / Re: 2 missing users on: April 02, 2015, 08:54:19 PM
I don't get it. Why would we contribute to someone who a) did illegal things, b) made money from those illegal things, c) is now being punished for those illegal things, am I missing something?

Because the law is wrong and completely stupid?

Yeah after reading some more on what they're claiming, it does seem a bit stupid. There's no precedence, they're almost making it up and trying to backdate it.
1888  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: April 02, 2015, 07:09:20 PM
With the open style of the s5, can you have a push/push or pull/pull setup?  Or would that be to much?  I ended up ordering another Delta fan off of Ebay $20.  I unplugged the stock fan, and the temps went up to 58/63.  Still not bad, but I like to be under 60.  This is at stock setting, also.

Pull pull wouldn't work as its too open, push push would be interested but will likely have a large deadspot in the middle which might not come up on the temps. Stick with push pull if you can.

Write me please EU service center contact to speed up my defective blades problem resolving...

Thank you!

also, for the dead S5 or defective S5, turn around time via US/EU service center is as usual in just a few days.

Contact them via ZenDesk: https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

1890  Other / Meta / Re: What did theymos do with 200K? on: April 01, 2015, 07:40:28 PM
Why not? Bitcoin is centered around open source software. Should satoshi have charged people to use bitcoin? Not everything has to have capitalistic motives as well, though if theymos wanted to make more money surely he would have planned to charge people to use the software?

Lets be honest, Satoshi probably did have some capitalistic motives when he put out the white-paper. He imagined it could be a future payment network and put himself in a position that if it did take off, he'd be well seated.

Notice my reply was directed at the quote by "hilariousandco" which stated that he thinks that possibly in the future businesses who require these massive sites for their support infrastructure will turn to open source software. I was merely stating that isn't likely to be the case because no open source software is ever going to come close to what a licensed software can do.

We will see, wont we?  Wink

I for one am very much looking forward to breaking the hell out of the formatting side of things. And hopefully we will finally get tables that don't have to be ghetto modded to do anything useful.
1891  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Came across 20+ miners, help? on: April 01, 2015, 05:00:43 PM
That's quite a weight of PCBs right there. They might not have any hashing value, but they should have a reasonable scrap value to a specialist. They may even be able to pull board components off and reuse them.

GOD DAMN IT, EVERY TIME I FALL FOR IT.

1893  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ANN] HashCoins - Cryptocurrency Mining Hardware Manufacturer on: April 01, 2015, 08:54:37 AM
Fact is: HashCoins is actively looking at what is being written in this board but does not react.

Fact is: HashCoins wants to get the money from buyers. However, once the money has been sent, they want the client to wave all his rights. The "Term of Sales" on their homepage doesn't show any content. But they also write: "All Sales Final. No cancellations or returns will be accepted". So once you've paid, they take the right to wait two months before they may or may not deliver.

Fact is: The first "persons" who jumped into this thread were all newbies. And guess what: Most of them were almost exclusively writing on this thread. So this smells like sock puppets.

Until now, I was lucky every time with pre-orders and was able to get my miners or my money back.

And I wish for myself that HashCoins is a legit company - let alone for this would give me the opportunity to go there and meet Tanja :-p

However, they either have a totally crappy and unprofessional marketing section (hello Tanja) or are a scam.

Future will show...

...Nope....
That is not true. In the EU as a consumer you have a "on sale or return" for 14 days in general, no matter what you purchase.
This can not be excluded in B2C, it can be excluded in B2B.
http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/shopping/shopping-abroad/returning-unwanted-goods/index_en.htm
So if you are unhappy with your goods purchased in the EU, just send them back and you have to be refunded.

In terms of Tanja, you just have to stop by  Cheesy

Kind regards,
elrippo

Just a quick addition, EU DSRs only apply if both the consumer and the seller are both in the EU. That's true in this case, but I see it repeated many times regarding non EU imports also.
1894  Other / Meta / Re: In-place editing of posts on: April 01, 2015, 06:55:29 AM
Yep and your post becomes the post editing box instantly. I first noticed it a few months ago.

Thanks for the info, so I'm lagging a little bit behind and the return avatars made me pay more attention. Hopefully this topic will be useful to others who hadn't noticed the feature already, or didn't see the difference between the edit button and this icon.

Oh nice. Its so far off to the side I guess I never noticed.
1895  Other / Meta / Re: In-place editing of posts on: April 01, 2015, 06:13:53 AM
I've noticed this feature this morning, and I assume it is new: you can now use in-place editing for your posts right from topic pages. It's kind of a detail but still nice to edit typos etc. What do you think, did I miss something before or is it a new feature indeed?

Where are you seeing this? I've not noticed it anywhere?
1896  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: April 01, 2015, 04:07:07 AM
After two years in the making, I'm happy to announce that we completed the development of a very efficient SAT solver for SHA256.
On Intel D54250WYK NUC with 16 GB of RAM, we're getting about 100 TH/s.

With great power comes great responsibility.

In order to protect the Bitcoin ecosystem, we'll sell each month only 1,000 SAT10 units.
The initial cost will be $5,000 per unit. We'll sell up to two units per customer each month.

Each SAT10 unit will contain the following:

- Intel D54250WYK NUC
- 16 GB Kingston SODIMM
- 1TB WD Magnetic 2.5" HDD (we'll provide SSD upgrade option)
- Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 card
- Spondoolies's Propriety mini PCI Express card
- Pre-configured Ubuntu 14.04 with cgminer, running as full node

The mini PCI Express card contains proprietary essentials close elements of the SAT Solver.

We did a large scale testing of our initial batch last week but beside testing and development, we don't intend to run our own farm.

If you're interested to participate in a draw to buy the first batch (shipping immediately from stock), please fill the following form:
http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/pages/sat10-draw

Thanks,
Guy

Every year, every year I fall for stuff like this. Well played.
1897  Other / Meta / Re: Whats wrong with the trust system? on: April 01, 2015, 03:25:04 AM
My trust rating took a pretty big hit when CITM got removed from default trust

Almost everyone's did, it was expected when you remove half of default trust. Consider it a rebalance though, so everyone went down relatively equally.

Asked about coolant choice in another thread but wanted to note to Dogie (whose guides I live by) that his Amazon coolant link is linking to an unavailable product so we can't buy it and if you use affiliate links (hope you do for all the work you put in) you aren't getting paid if I can't buy it Smiley

Updated, thanks.
1900  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S-5 review. It has arrived some info is in! on: March 31, 2015, 05:01:12 PM

I don't know how adjustible that design is but you're losing a LOT of cooling by having a gap between heatsinks and fans. Like, 5C worth.
