1921  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Nuclear Fusion be a reality in the next decade? on: December 15, 2022, 06:48:19 PM
I get that everyone is all giddy and excited about the latest news of a breakthrough (getting more energy output than input in nuclear fusion) but we are still far from anything feasibly self sustaining. Lets not forget the two main issues:

1. Perpetual, uninterrupted fusion without melting the inner workings of the reactor and/or creating byproducts which hinder the fusion process. (Because it gets hot. Really hot.) We used to count the seconds, now we count the minutes. In the near future, reactors will be able to run for hours.

2. The fuel required for fusion is not that readily available to us in abundant quantities, (unlike fossil fuels or radioactive ore) and we can't get more energy out of fusion than we put in. Thats just basic physics. (If we make the fuel then we are putting the same amount of energy into the process of making the fuel (at minimum) as the energy we are getting out of the fusion itself. So that won't work.

The current hope is that we can mine the Helium-3 on the moon and use that for fuel.

1922  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: turned gambler after investing in BTC or investor turned gambler? on: December 15, 2022, 06:17:32 PM
This is just a question got from someone I hangout with yesterday when I introduced her to investing in BTC. She is 50+ but managed a busy small hotel and has a son who had been playing games on the computer all the time. After some discussion, I advised her to just remind the son not to gamble the BTC.

So she asked how I end up gambling online. I'm not totally a gambler at all, I started investing and somehow stray as I'm trying to win some.
She began to worry since her son is on the computer all the time and might gamble upon learning the BTC can be gambled.

Which one has a high possibility of happening, a gamer eventually becomes a gambler or an investor turns into a gambler?
But first, answer the poll which are you. Are you a gambler that become an investor or an investor that turned into a gambler?

As far as the question of investing turning people into gamblers goes, I think it seems very possible. But not just because of Bitcoin but rather the action of investing into something. That action alone is very similar to gambling because it has unknowable risks of losing money but also a probability of making money. Especially if said person starts trying out Daytrading and then trading derivatives... But the same can be said for investing in regular stocks. So bottom line the answer would be yes and no, you could become a gambler if you enjoyed the risky feeling of investing. But no, its not the fault of Bitcoin.

The other way around seems likely too, but on a lesser degree. I doubt investing is as fun as gambling is to a gambler. In fact, investing might seem long and boring to someone who is used to winning/losing instantly.
1923  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can DeFi still be trusted?? on: December 15, 2022, 02:40:54 PM
The only reason why Defi is acceptable in the eyes of most coiners is the fact that its so easy to use to swap for wrapped tokens. That way you can keep your funds out of an exchange and be completely self reliant. No third party is involved in your trades or your wallet holdings.

The bad news is that the underlying blockchain (BEP20 or ERC20 for example) is not as trustworthy or reliable as Bitcoin blockchain. And obviously it is not one and the same thing.

Its like giving someone a piece of paper with "1 Bitcoin" written on it and the person reassures you that that paper can be traded in for 1 Bitcoin at any time, as the piece of paper itself has an underlying Bitcoin reserve value. But its still not 1 Bitcoin. Just a voucher for 1 Bitcoin.

Should the underlying DeFI's blockchain fail for some reason, your wrapped token will become worthless and nobody will trade you 1 Bitcoin for it....

So whether or not you want to trust Defi is up to you. But one thing is certain: DeFi itself is trustless and verifiable. Just not without risk, depending on which blockchain you use.
1924  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tipping during live slot, or casino games. on: December 15, 2022, 11:40:53 AM

How much do you tip a slot machine attendant?
For those who visit and still enjoy the services of these live casino operators, am curious as to know how you tip the attenders. Do you tip only when you are winning and how much is too much tip to give? Also, I do not think online casinos even have this option, but if there is, can you share?

In most parts of US, any payout of more than $1,200 is paid in person by the slot floor person. The tipping here starts with a minimum amount of $20 and can be up between 3-10 percent of the jackpot reward. It however, depends on the discretion of the customer.

Do you think it is necessary to give tips or it is just a tradition that is required?

I think tipping is mostly an American custom which most international people tend to ignore. Personally, I am ok with tipping, as a reward, if they did an extraordinary job or went the extra mile just for you. Otherwise there is no point. And quite right too! Why would you give someone a reward for no reason? There has to be a good reason, if you ask me.

Furthermore as far as live casinos are concerned, I am not a huge fan of them. It seems rather unnecessary and in smaller, unknown casinos a quite risky way to play. A game should be provably fair and have no/as few ways to exploit as possible. Both from the side of the gamblers and the casino owners.

If you are betting hundreds of thousands and have a lot of money, then tipping is not an issue.
1925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is your local game includes in online casino ? on: December 15, 2022, 11:07:02 AM
I think there is a limit to which games can and cannot be transformed into a gambling version for casinos. For example, you cannot make chess into a gambling game. The reason is very simple. It is a game which can be algorithmically exploited by simple code bots. Thats why computers will beat even the best master chess players in the world. The game obviously needs a probabilistic nature to it. Otherwise how would it be gambling?

Casinos are probably aware of this and are very wary of which games they do and do not introduce to us.  Undecided
1926  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why every casino got bad habits? on: December 14, 2022, 03:36:50 PM
If you have a look at the scam accusation section, you will find that no casino has a good reputation there. Each and every casino which has their ANN thread here, has at least one complaint against them; sometimes confiscated funds, delayed withdrawal, not paying the winning, freezing account etc. Why this is the principal of all the casinos? Why they can't operate without having any issues? They always do this shit; who knows what has been done with people who don't know how to deal with such a casino. Can you show me a thread that never had any reputation issues on this forum?

I believe that most of the scam accusations against casinos are just frustrated gamblers who made a big loss and are looking for a way to vent. And what better way than besmirch the reputation of the online gambling casino which took all their money? Its a bit silly but understandably quite a human reaction. That being said, sometimes there are scam casinos that get what they deserve when somebody exposes their scam. But that happens much more rarely than disgruntled gamblers letting off steam. So you should take any scam accusation, especially those without proof, with a grain of salt.
1927  Economy / Gambling / Re: MegaPari is nominated for the EGR Nordics Awards 2023 - Bonus inside on: December 14, 2022, 11:01:23 AM
Congrats to MegaPari for the EG Nordics Award 2023 nomination! I personally have not known about this i-Gaming award but I hope when they announce the winners, there will be some good news for MegaPari Smiley

I am a bit confused on your website there is welcome bonus "on your 1st deposit up to 100 EUR" but on the right side it says "register and receive 100 Euro right now".

So do I have to deposit more than 100 Euro or less to receive the 100 Euro bonus or do I only have to register? OR do I register and then deposit ANY amount of Euros to receive the 100 Euro bonus?
1928  Economy / Economics / Re: This could be the biggest news in 2022 on: December 14, 2022, 08:03:23 AM
Crypto holding company by the name of Bitcoin Group are on the move to buy the world oldest bank for approximately 15 million dollars .

The name of the bank is Bankhaus von der Heydt which was founded in 1754, the deal is already signed but the reason for this post is to understand where this is going.

Banks aren't ready to buy Bitcoin but now Bitcoin is buying bank? This is the most mind-blowing news of the year, I don't know about you guys. Here you go if you want to read more

https://cryptoslate.com/bitcoin-group-set-to-acquire-germans-oldest-bank-for-over-15m/

This is nowhere near "biggest news of 2022". I did read about this a few days ago and it was nothing special. 15 Million dollars are a teeny tiny blimp and the bank itself had nothing going for it except its reputation of being very very old. So there is absolutely no need to start connecting things that are not there in order to build up a large conspiracy theory which ends up being a giant nothing-burger.

If anything the gesture was symbolic or a bad investment decision. It has got to be one of those two things, I believe.
1929  Economy / Gambling / Re: Consider open live casino (street gambling games) on: December 14, 2022, 06:30:42 AM
There ia the big evolution that allow live play roullete and black jack and more.

I consider bw the first one to open live casino street games.

The one that simple players play like 24 (alternatove to roullete)

Coin flip and more all broadcast from thr streets

What you think?

Edit; i dont think all understand here what live casino games means.

If you dont understand  what is live gamre watch endoephina is mean the bets ard played live by real person every few seconds. (Real blackjack dealer, real roulletr dealer etc)

So if you think it can be rigged it doesnt make sense. Live casino providers dont gain anything from rigging a game t

For example if lose win 5k hand live black in stake.com by evolultion provider. Evoulution gain about 0.5%.
Stake.com gain the most.

Livecasino providers dont gain shit fron rigging games this why they are much better option than playing on a regular self made casino games. Is more trusty way to gamble.

Live casinos, in my opinion, are less secure than their virtual reality cousins and are therefore more or less heading towards redundancy. I also do not trust a lot of small time live casinos (Except I do trust live casinos which have been audited and offered by big, well known casinos).

Its not that live casino providers "don't gain shit from rigging games" (although, lets be honest, they do!) It just worries me how easy it is to rig live games. We as the Bitcoin community have always preferred to verify over trust. So why should we trust an older version of gambling? I just do not understand it.

1931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nobel prize for Satoshi. on: December 13, 2022, 03:33:32 AM
I think you guys mean the Turing Award, not the Nobel Prize? Because there is no Nobel Prize for computer science. It does not exist. The Turing Award is however the "Computer science Nobel Prize" or is at least regarded as highly. If you were to ask me, I would say Satoshi Nakamoto, whoever and wherever he might be, we applaud him for his amazing achievement!  Grin Wink Cheesy Because computer science is indeed a science. A branch of experimental mathematics, like physics but more meta, you could say. It does not get the respect it deserves due to being a new science.

1934  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Using Bonus Buy or Not Using Bonus Buy? on: December 12, 2022, 09:04:07 PM
Reading the other replies in this thread, some people seem to agree that bonus buys might be kind of an illusion, it would seem. A Fata Morgana of the gambling world. Obviously you could just bet more money in the first place and you would also win more money, so what is the point of a bonus buy other than marketing purposes and enticing you to bet more than you would have in the first place? I think in cases where bonus buys actually bring you in more money then there must be mathematical proof for that.

Hard to do when everything relies on slight differences in probabilities.  Roll Eyes
1935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Destroy Crap Altcoins? on: December 12, 2022, 07:32:05 PM
There is absolutely no need for Bitcoin to destroy the altcoins. Altcoins are altcoins and Bitcoin is Bitcoin. Lets not compare apples to bananas here.

Bitcoin has been the king of "crypto" ever since day one and that has not changed, throughout all these years. You should view Bitcoin as something which is separate from Altcoins. Each of them is different in their nature. It would be better to not even compare the two.

But also, lets not call all crypto a scam. DeFi is quite useful, as long as you know what you are doing and avoid the known traps.

Bitcoin and alts can co-exist with each other. They are catering different purposes

Well yes, if you actually read my post you would notice that is exactly my point. So them serving different purposes, although they are based on roughly the same technological concept of blockchain, is the main reason why comparing Bitcoins with altcoins has absolutely not point whatsoever.

In fact, I even mentioned in my previous post that DeFi is a very promising area of altcoins. So obviously I am not against all altcoins. But Bitcoin is Bitcoin and altcoins are altcoins (crypto). Meaning that no single altcoin will be able to overcome Bitcoin as #1. Because they are two different things.
1936  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: December 09, 2022, 05:06:02 PM
I do not believe that using an AI for prediction of gambling or sporting events is a good idea. Not only does it take away all the fun of gambling from you but it will not give you the result you are looking for. Why? Because there are too many variables and predicting an outcome is technically impossible. Even if you were to use an artificial intelligence.

And since when have we started thinking that our current, modern AI technology is anywhere near ready enough to compete with the human mind? Sure it can calculate faster but so can an ordinary windows 98 computer from the 90s. I am not satisfied enough with AI progress to trust it with my money.
1937  Economy / Gambling / Re: A way to attract new users or a misunderstanding? on: December 09, 2022, 04:00:50 PM
Is web 3 a misunderstanding word for some gambling crypto projects? I've come across few gambling / crypto projects that claimed to be a web 3.0 online casino and other but they still ask for KYC.

The definition of web 3.0 had everything to do with decentralization, block chain technology and token based economics as per what Wikipedia illustrated so why is identity/ verification integrated?

Is this just a misunderstanding of what web 3 actually is? Or it's a way to attract people/users to make them think that their platform is more advanced?.

Web 3 is the next generation decentralized internet. Although I would be very careful around anyone using the term to promote their own business. Most of the time they are just trying to sleezily advertise their platform but their platform is something which has to do with the current web 3 hype. But the reality of the situation is that most of these projects have absolutely nothing or only something minimal to do with web 3. It is always best to do your own research and have a bit of a technical background so that you know when somebody is trying to dupe you with hype-words.
1938  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Quantum physics on: December 09, 2022, 03:55:06 AM
nope that is not what the schrodinger's cat experiment was trying to explain
That's not the experiment I was referring to, those who believe that universe accidentally came to existence say that if you put an apple in a box, atoms of the apple rearrange so many times that eventually they get back together and form a fresh apple if you wait long enough.

It would seem to me that he is talking about Poincare Recurrence. Basically a physical concept of "If you made a monkey type on a keyboard for an infinite amount of time, at some point in time, the monkey would coincidentally type out any book that has ever been written." Except in this case, with conservative entropy systems returning to the initial state. Billions of years are not anywhere long enough to achieve this.

Here is a good read on the Poincare Recurrence: https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/94122/is-poincare-recurrence-relevant-to-our-universe

1940  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Proof Of Income Will This Pass on: December 08, 2022, 09:02:18 PM
Ok, suddenly the casino you're playing asks you for proof of income to be able to withdraw your winnings and to keep your account in good standing, your bankroll every month is $500 and you provide proof of salary that you are making $500 net every month, will they accept that proof will they accept that you are putting all your salary for gambling, will this violate the principle of gamble for fun, because you are working to gamble based on your proof income.

You provided proof that you have a legitimate source of income worth $500. That was all they asked for, and all the proof of salary they need. As long as they do not have evidence that that money came from laundering or drug dealing, terrorism or etc., then you are ok. The casino will not have legal grounds on taking your money or freezing your withdrawals.

That being said, I would rather stay away from a casino that demands such in-depth, personal documents. A good casino would have to have a very large amount of distrust in one of their gamblers to ask for such documents. If they imposed such a degrading interrogation on everyone, they would lose their user base really quickly...
