2401  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance to suspend GBP deposits/withdrawal on: March 14, 2023, 07:51:02 PM
Your thoughts? with crypto-friendly banks collapsing, and others refusing to serve exchanges, where do you think we're headed?
I think this is related with their partner Skrill is not supporting GBP currency anymore, so this could affect other centralized exchanges and services that use Skrill.
We shouldn't care so much what Binance is doing, but it's obvious this is just one more attempt from regulators to make life difficult for people who want to exchange Bitcoin for fiat.

Meanwhile, decentralized exchange Bisq supports most fiat currencies including GBP and this can't be suspenfed Wink

2402  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [unofficial] CoinDebit NO-KYC pre-paid cards? on: March 14, 2023, 06:47:13 PM
Any idea when will they be available for rest of the world again?
I have nothing from official sources, but I (sort of) explained how it is possible to use CoinDebit cards from other parts of the world if you applied for latest testing.
Let's wait for this beta testing to finish so we can get more feedback from people if everything is working as expected.
Contact people from CoinDebit website to get official information.

2403  Other / Meta / Re: Request Information Moderation: Topic edited, no info on: March 14, 2023, 02:01:42 PM
Does it make sense for these Topic to continue to exist?
Topics like this can be reported or moved to Archive and moderators can decide what to do with them later.
I don't see any issue with them still existing, but I would like if members had the option to delete or at least hide their topics from public.

How does the forum deal with a person's right to be "forgotten"? Imagine that a user wants to delete all his activity from the forum, is it possible?
User can currently delete all his posts (except topics) and ask moderators to change his user name.
Even if someone manages to deletes all his posts and topics, there is still several archives recorded for everything that was ever posted.

This is clearlly stated in About privacy:
Deleted posts and trust ratings, as well as their edit histories - Kept on the live server for a couple of years; then probably kept indefinitely in backups - Don't publicly post things that you might not want to exist forever

2404  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does blockchain have alternative keys or password? on: March 14, 2023, 01:45:14 PM
If you lost your blockchain key; can it be recover or is there any alternative key one can use to recover account or wallet?
You didn't said exactly what your friend used, non-custodial wallet or some centralized exchange service.
There is no way to recover your coins if you lost seed words or private keys, that is why you should always have backup safely stored in multiple places.
If you lost one backup you can always recover using second one, or you could create multisig setup for extra security that adds some complexity.

2405  Economy / Exchanges / Re: PeachBitcoin P2P mobile app on: March 13, 2023, 10:29:42 PM
If it just 'matches' people without offering a security benefit over e.g. finding trading peers on a forum, I would feel somewhat insecure using it.
PeachBitcoin uses Multi-Signature bitcoin addresses to make sure that everything works fine during trade, so nobody can run away with money, and you can even interact with other peeps using the encrypted chat in app.
I suggest reading Support FAQ page on website to see how Peach Bitcoin works, and please write below if you notice anything that you don't like.
My oppinion is that Bisq is better option for computers, but PeachBitcoin is very good alternative for mobile devices, if you are willing to accept some drawbacks.
2406  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak (filmovi, serije, knjige etc) on: March 13, 2023, 10:06:52 PM

2407  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Most Durable Hardware Wallets on: March 13, 2023, 08:06:55 PM
It seems that none of the existing HW devices is designed to survive natural disasters. All market offers have a rather fragile design, and this is a free niche that one of the well-known manufacturers can fill: hardware wallets with a particularly durable case that can withstand force majeure.
Like I said before, this is not completely true and I will update topic and add more information in future to prove it.
If my watch can survive natural disaster and swimming or diving than this should be possible for hardware wallets, maybe not for all of them, but some for sure.

Such as metal body, strength, moisture and water resistance, etc. It should be a completely different direction, like the existing lines of phones designed for extreme conditions.

We should not expect too much from manufacturers, as this is still a business and their main goal is to make a profit. Therefore, they will save on the quality of materials if the device is not initially designed for high quality performance.
We should expect more from hardware wallet manufacturers, they are increasing prices of their devices all the time and they should improve their products.
I don't want to spend money buying cheap chinese made device that after few years I can throw in garbage because it stopped working for some reason, plastic broke or screen stopped working.

There is another option. Use special cases or capsules to store HW devices that compensate for their shortcomings. For example, from metal, in a sealed case and waterproof, as well as fireproof. But discussion of this will be beyond the scope of this topic.
It's not beyond, it can be sold as accessories how hardware wallet, in same way like you can purchase case for smartphones.

Found two more:
  • Tangem HW is being tested in water and also to a small extent by a car [source]
  • Cutting into an Ellipal Titan Mini Hardware Wallet [source]
Thanks for nice find, I will add them later.

Given my experience with phones, I can't agree glass is stronger than plastic. It offers better protection against scratches, but breaks easier.
Obviously, you can test this with regular cup or glass.
Gorilla glass and other type of glasses protections are making it better than regular glass.

Even though it is not a straightforward answer to the original question, I want to add the SeedSigner to the conversation. It is custom-built, which means that you buy the parts to build your signing device. Therefore, I believe its durability depends on the user. I have built a seed signer in 2021 and I have used it extensively. It had never had any issues.
SeedSigner uses raspberry pi zero, and I saw some people making DIY metallic case, that is very hard to destroy, but most of them are made from cheap plastic cases.

...
Sorry but S is cheap chinese junk, and it's not manufactured anymore, so I guess that is a good thing Wink

If by "durable" you mean only the material used to make the device, it is better to use metal than plastic.
But if by "durable" you mean "long lasting", it is better to choose the device with the least sophisticated electronic components.
Yeah I agree with you, and I agree that credit card style hardware wallets could be most durable hardware wallet devices...they are so thin and small that you can easily make them fireproof and waterpoof.

A smart card such as Tangem, Satochip or Satscard might be the best choice for long-term storage.
Since you are here, is Satochip and other cards you sell waterproof by design?

2408  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 26 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: March 13, 2023, 07:56:11 PM
Added dimension for all the wallets and also added Tapsigner.
Nice one, I see you listened to my earlier suggestion Wink
Dimensions are currently missing for Arculus wallet, but I guess it's similar like for all other card style wallets.... not saying that I support or like Arculus in any way.

And how the heck did you find dimensions for for upcoming Coldcard Q1  hardwa wallet?
With 120 x 75 x 22 mm this is now officially largest hardware wallet device in the world... it's yuge  Cheesy

I am trying to add as many wallets as possible. I didn't know oneKey, I will add it. Thanks for mentioning it. I am open to new suggestions.
If you want to check big list of all hardware wallets, you can check one we are maintaining in our local board:

2409  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: March 13, 2023, 07:50:08 PM
Sure! You can find all of our docs on the integration here, but the core of it is that Bitcoin Keeper is a multisig-centric wallet with a focus on helping users setup tiers of Bitcoin storage (including singlesig and multisig) with a proper plan for inheritance long-term. They have a pretty clean UI and UX, and have been great to work with on the integration front. They've also done good work integrating the latest interoperable standards for multisig, which has been helpful for us as well as we're laser-focused on interoperability and embracing emerging standards in the Bitcoin space.
Problem I have with Bitcoin Keeper is that I can't find source code for their app, so I assume they are closed source.
There is bithyve github page, that is their parrent company I think, but I can't find information for Bitcoin Keeper there.
I prefer using open source alternative whenever I can, and I know this isn't always possible, but I think I saw similar apps that can be used as part of multisig setup.
2410  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Crypto Nest | The Home of Cryptocurrency Hardware on: March 13, 2023, 07:41:35 PM
The only clause is that the item must not be used or taken out of its sealed outer packaging. As long as the item is still in it's sealed packaging when it's returned to us and there are no signs of tampering then the product will be taken back into stock.
I see potential problem with this because some devices like ledgr nono X have higher percentage of devices that have some problems with battery, and few other issues.
That means you can't know if something is wrong with purchased hardware wallet until you open it and plug in power source for charging, than you can see it's not working like it should.
You can check out ledger reddit channel and see people are complaining all the time about this, and ledger support is replacing this devices all the time.

For cases of defective or damaged products we still offer the refund under the condition that the fault is readily apparent when we receive the item back.
Is bad battery (inside ledger X) counting as defective and damaged product?
2411  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Full Node VPN+Tor on: March 13, 2023, 07:16:17 PM
Do you think it would be better to run the full node over VPN + Tor?
You should never run VPN together with Tor for anything, including for Bitcoin node.
Running BTC node with Tor sergice is used a lot and it works perfectly fine for purpose of hiding your real IP address.

Or can you run the node over the clearnet without fear?
Running Tor, VPN or Bitcoin node can be interpreted as suspicious behavior in some countries, so don't ask other people if you should fear something.

PS
You are asking so many silly questions that I seriously doubt you will ever run full node, make multisig setup, etc...  Roll Eyes
2412  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What could make an exchange to seize users assets on: March 12, 2023, 09:43:08 PM
Coinbase exchange was launched in 2012 right? Have there ever been any cases of users' assets being frozen and never released to them? I know someone living in the united states, she said that Coinbase seized her crypto in 2020 within that COVID-19 period and to date, the assets were never released back to her. I respect coinbase so much and I am curious why such a thing would happen.
It can happen for any reason and they don't even need to give you real explanation why they froze your coins.
They can claim your coins are involved with some hacks and stolen funds, or they can say your source of funds is suspicious, and it can even happen because of you location.
This can happen with all centralized exchange, not just for Coinbase but I think Coinbase is going to be inbig trouble because of connection with USDC so better withdraw coins to your own wallet.
You can use P2P trading and decentrlaized exchanges, than you dont have to worry that someone will freeze your accounts.

2414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens when your identity is stolen -- real story || Avoid CEXs! on: March 11, 2023, 09:45:39 PM
So are you still willing to use CEXs?
Not really, but I can understand why many people are still using centralized exchanges a lot, maybe when they are exchanging larger amount of money and they want to buy/sell lot of Bitcoins.
I am all for P2P trading and decentralized exchanges like Bisq, but let's be realistic and say that we can't expect everyone to use DEX especially if they are companies or financial institutions.
Identity and documents can be stolen anytime if they are sent for any verification, so I would suggest regular people to stay away from CEX like Coinbase, Binance., etc, or at least be aware of the risks and use them sparingly.
2415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to be notified about the status of the mempool on: March 11, 2023, 09:17:20 PM
I monitor mempool.space and https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC,24h,weight occasionally, but is there a Telegram bot or a way to be notified when the fees are below a certain threshold?
There is CryptocurrencyAlerting website that have option for mempool notifications based on megabytes or unconfirmed transactions:
https://cryptocurrencyalerting.com/bitcoin-mempool.html

Second option is website txfees.watch, and they are using only email addresses for notification:
https://txfees.watch/

You can also use my Bitcoin Mempool Fees Extension/add-on for Firefox or Chrome browser, that will allow you to easily watch the state of mempool on small ticker icon in your browser next to address bar.
This includes information you can manually choose from mempool.space (default option), bitcoiner.live or blockchain.com.
I think it would be possible to add notification to my extensions, but I don't know how to do it Tongue

2416  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: March 11, 2023, 08:05:15 PM
USDC izgubio peg.
Neke ''zanimljive'' organizacije imaju veze s USDC, Coinbase, digitalnim identitetom, Euro robovskim CBDC,  i još nekim shitcoinima.

2417  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Crypto Nest | The Home of Cryptocurrency Hardware on: March 10, 2023, 06:20:10 PM
Passport and Keystone are both pretty awesome wallets but definitely on the pricey end. We've always thought the Ellipal Titan and Keystone wallets were pretty similar in many ways, just at
Keystone is not expensive at all, especially Essential version, and they have discounts all the time maybe because they are working on their new gen hardware wallet, that should be released later this year.
Big difference and advantage compared with Ellipal is that Keystone has open source code, while Ellipal is a closed source device and they had some embarrassing bugs in past, they are basically more or less like android phones.
If I had to choose hardware wallets I would never choose Ellipal, and they are even more expensive than Keystone, Ellipal Titan is Sale $139 and Keystone Essential is $119 (Pro is $169), plus they have from 30% to 40% discount on that.
2418  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Crypto Nest | The Home of Cryptocurrency Hardware on: March 10, 2023, 05:56:47 PM
We're keen to get some feedback from you guys, what do you think of our current product range? what products/brands would you like to see us stock? and most importantly, what can we do to help make self-custody more acessible for newbies?
Welcome!
I am not a fan of ledger hardware wallet at all, but you could add their products on your website since they are (sadly) one of the most popular hardware wallets in the world.
If you want to add more expensive quality device than I would suggest adding Passport wallet by Foundation, and Keystone hardware wallet.
There are more devices available but I don't think there are so much demand for them.

I don't know what's the issue in your case, but you can try downloading Bisq directly from official website or github and install application manually.
OP is not active in forum since 2022, but you can contact Bisq support in other ways that can be found on their website:

2420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Second time of downtime in 3650 Days on: March 10, 2023, 05:05:44 PM
Tom said and i quote: It’s been 3650 Days, almost 10 years exactly since Bitcoin has had a second of downtime.
I don't know any other network in the world that has 99.98% of uptime for such a long time like Bitcoin.
There are several websites we can use for tracking exact percentage, and this is a good way of promotion whenever people tells you bitcoin is worthless.
Bitcoin total uptime is around 14 years, with 100% uptime since August 2013!
