601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how many halvings have you witnessed? on: October 13, 2023, 12:03:13 AM
I think I have experienced one (1) halving.

I remember people were excited on why the halving happened as I was a newbie when that happened. In fact, I was not aware of its opportunities and potentials when people were taking advantage of this phenomenon. Now that I have a better understanding on the cryptocurrency world, the halving is now one of those events that I keenly look forward to.

To all newbies that are starting and reading this thread, I highly recommend saving or purchasing BTCs before the halving starts. Once it ends, then expect prices of cryptocurrencies to skyrocket; take it as an advantage to invest either short or long-term depending on your goal.
602  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need advice on getting merits on: October 12, 2023, 11:42:14 PM
Hi guys, I want to ask some tips on getting some merits. I somehow feel jealous when I see other full members having tons of it even if they're just new to the forum. I know that there are some ways to earn it like being active in your local board, engaging in the gambling threads talking about particular sports, create an informational thread, or have some deep knowledge about bitcoin's technical like block size, hash rate, etc. And that's my concern, I am not good with any of those stuffs. I am not a sports enthusiasts nor good in bitcoin technical. Our local board is not that active also compared to others where I see some members' their main merit source.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking my time to read my post. Cheers!  Smiley

I do recommend that creating various topics on your local boards is a great way to start your merit journey.

Since you have mentioned that your local board is not active, that is the perfect opportunity for you to introduce certain topics that can potentially make it active again. In fact, this can be a great advantage to you so that you could earn dozens of merits on the process after you shared various topics.

At the end of the day, focus on contribution rather than reward. Merits would come and go and this would be your second priority once you have discovered a way to contribute to the forum as a whole.
603  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do the size and frequency of online casino winnings depend on the time of year? on: October 12, 2023, 11:18:25 PM
Do you think that there is a dependence of online casino winnings on the time of year? For example, for 9 years of playing, I received almost all the biggest winnings from November to May. In other periods, the game develops much worse  Undecided.

What time of the year do you win more often?

This really depends on your average gambler if they gamble regularly or intermittently.

There are others who gamble only on the holidays due to the extra money that they have; while others gamble regularly regardless on what season it is.

In conclusion, this really depends on how you would view this question and who you would ask it for. As a gambler who does not gamble frequently, I mostly gamble if I receive bonuses or if I have the extra money to do so.
604  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cross addictions is Just as Bad. on: October 12, 2023, 11:04:15 PM
<..snip..>

Ever heard of cross addiction or suffered from it?
What do you think?

This is an interesting take on the subject of gambling about its addiction.

I would argue that the friend has made at least an attempt to combat his addiction. While he may have transferred his addiction from gambling to ps4 gaming, the latter is the lesser evil between the two (2). I mean, sure he is still addicted to something but at least he had already skipped most steps and checked all the boxes towards full cure of addiction.

Like what I also mentioned, one of the ways for a person to combat addiction is by venturing another habit. Replacing your gambling activities with recreational activities (e.g. sports, gaming, etc) is a great start for this person.
605  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's a strategy to lose on: October 12, 2023, 10:53:21 PM
<..snip..>

It's no doubt that Poker for example is all about been cunning, logical and deception to gain power over your opponent, it's called upper advantage, this is way different from games like Blackjack, roulette or Slots.

So imagine doing all these together, most gambling games needs your understanding of the odds and taking them into account, especially when wagering, so how can a gambler get involved in all games at once just to increase their chances of getting lucky? Stop this as it's not a strategy to win, it's a strategy to lose.

I mean, sure, there care certain games in gambling where skill is a factor. Like what you have mentioned, poker is the best example for this where you can apply various techniques and skills in order to have the advantage over the other person. But remember that the skill involved here is only up to a certain extent- luck still plays a role here.

While one may argue that it is a strategy to lose in poker, I humbly answer that it is not. It sucks to lose- losing is what makes gambling addictive. If a person loses, the initial reaction here is to recover such losses by gambling again. In this way, you are trapped in its ecosphere and the cycle continues endlessly.
606  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambler avoiding friends after a big win. on: October 11, 2023, 11:45:16 PM
At one of the local gambling shop I visited during the weekend I happened to listen to a conversation between two bald looking gamblers at the shop talking about one of their gambling colleague who had won a big amount of money amounting to a million in the local currency and due to that win this colleague of theirs' has been avoiding them since e won that money. From their conversation it was obvious that they were a circle of close three friends that gamble together.

After all I finished with my bet headed home and was asking myself what could the colleague act that way avoiding his close friends they all gambling together and just because luck shines on him first he decides to create a distance and class. I couldn't actually annex a good reason why anyone should do that.

Well it could be a lot of reasons that we do not know of. Probably those two (2) gamblers that you met did something that made the friend dislike them; or probably those two (2) gamblers only make friends with people who won.

At the end of the day, we really do not know the scope of the story and it is somehow futile to make pointless conclusions based on such little information.

Personally, if I ever win a huge amount of money in gambling, I would only tell a handful of people whom I trust in order to secure my safety and well-being. Who knows, my friends may disown or start to borrow money from me, etc.
607  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has anyone encountered any dog race betting here? on: October 11, 2023, 11:26:22 PM
On the gambling that have horse race, likely dog race would be there and it is common on fiat gambling sites. The last time I tried it with my friends and we continue losing has been when I lost interest. It is on local sport gambling sites and I saw it on a foreign gambling site which I will not mention its name for not to advertise the site. I do not like doge race gambling because you can easily lose money there than win.

I have yet to encounter a dog race type of gambling game and this is also the first time I have heard of it.

While I was exposed by my father to cockfighting when he used to gamble, dog race is not something that I have considered. I do think that people would rather watch horse racing than dog racing due to the former's popularity. But I guess there are certain gambling platforms that cater to this type of people who are into dog racing.

In all honesty, the more the merrier as long as it is not illegal.
608  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sustainable Approach For Your Earnings in Gambling on: October 11, 2023, 11:14:27 PM
And what happens if you experience a losing streak?

It would have been a great guide if only you have control of your gambling outcome—> so if it turns out that you are not lucky and your game does not come out like you have planned this guide becomes somewhat useless.

I do agree that there must be some sort of contingency plan if a person experiences a losing streak.

Generally, the initial reaction of a person losing is to quickly recover their losses either by gambling again or stopping. The latter happens rarely and the former happens regularly given the nature of the circumstances of the person.

While I do agree with the points you have raised, I would like to add that a person must only bring a handful amount of cash whenever they try to gamble. Lastly, avoid gambling using a credit card as it can definitely skyrocket your expenditures without you knowing.
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want to fulfill my mother's dream of building a house with Bitcoin. on: October 10, 2023, 11:56:35 PM
Hey OP!

As we have our respective dreams to fulfill, if we have the determination and patience, then all can be made possible. With the rampant increasing of prices on the market, BTC is considered as a combatant against inflation due to its high store of value. With this, it is definitely ideal to at least make it as your investment for long-term.

We can definitely reach our dreams and achieve greater heights as long as we remain consistent on this venture. Many of us in this forum have already reached their dreams due to this wonderful creation and it is just about time where we meet ours.

Definitely best of luck to you OP and I hope you reach your dream of building your mother's house with BTC!
610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Don't be afraid of buying Bitcoin on: October 10, 2023, 11:45:39 PM
I definitely agree with your post.

Purchasing BTC is definitely something that everyone should consider. Its store of value is relatively high which makes it a good investment for either short or long-term. Given as a high store of value, its value also as an asset increases overtime (as proved by its price history index) due to the forks that happen all throughout the years.

Newbies should definitely consider buying BTC as an addition to their portfolio of other investments. But be reminded that by purchasing BTC, it does NOT absolutely make you rich but it can potentially make you a lot of money if you play your cards right.
611  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do you not gamble on women sports? (tennis not included) on: October 10, 2023, 11:33:01 PM
I do not know if this has been discussed before, but I want to know why most discussions on sports asides tennis is about the men's side of it and the women side is about only barely mentioned. Take football for example. Why is there low engagement in women sports from the side of viewers and even gamblers who are sports bettors? Is it not easier to win on gambling on women sports than men's sport? or is there no gambling site offering odds for betting on women sports?

I do think that the sports industry is generally dominated by male players which makes it more desirable to bet against.

Not to be sexist or anything whatsoever, but there are only a few sports where women are involved. In sports betting, most of these gambling platforms focus on games that are already well-known to the public for everyone to participate and bet against. If they show a match between two (2) female players which are relatively new to the sports industry, this can be quite challenging for them to forecast their prediction.

Though this may be the case, I still hope that most gambling platforms allow sports-betting in the women sports section as this can stir everything up.
612  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever heard about financing a gambler? on: October 10, 2023, 11:17:41 PM
How will you feel if someone you know or just a friend of a friend walk up to you and ask you to finance them in gambling in exchange for a portion of their winnings? Does this even make any sense?

Well yes, it does make sense, but the risk has been shifted on your side since it is your money that is being used as the resource for gambling. Instead of the gambler being at risk, it is now on you who has to risk your money for someone to bet. In all honesty, I do think that it is better if you gamble for yourself than to let someone gamble your money.

Quote
Someone explained this to me, and I believe he is already a victim because to me it doesn't make sense, I believe he is been used because he lacks knowledge about gambling, do you think my judgment is wrong?

No your judgement is not wrong.

Like what I previously mentioned, if you let someone use your money as the resource for gambling, the whole risk is shifted on your side. This makes the gambler the winner as there is really no point of losing.

In order to balance this, there has to be some sort of collateral in case the gambler loses. If I were to do this, I would ask for something in exchange for my money in case the gambler decides to lose or loses everything. But generally, I would definitely avoid this kind of set-up since it is just really complicated to begin with.
613  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can somebody make a successful career in gambling on: October 10, 2023, 11:00:58 PM
As the gambling industry is evolving, I think innovations would have kicked in that can make someone create a career from gambling. I do not know how this can be achieved but I feel it is possible.

Making gambling a full time job might be seen as risky but I still feel one can make gambling full time job and a career.

What do you all think?

Short Answer: NO
Long Answer: It depends

Generally, people should not treat gambling as a money-making venture due to the risks involved. The risks is just too great for a person to make this their source of income and the monetary security is not present in this field. Like what I have mentioned before, there is nothing absolute in gambling which makes it very difficult for someone to earn money consistently.

Though this may be the case, there are a few people like 1% of the whole population, some made gambling as their main source of income. For example, Daniel Negreanu is known to be the best poker player in history with his accurate intuition and predictability of cards. But be reminded that only a very VERY few people can treat gambling as a profession.
614  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [WARNING] KairanX - Fake Team on: October 09, 2023, 11:50:01 PM
It's 2023 and these scam projects are still stock images for their team members? I remember back in 2018-2019, there were so many of them and ICOEthics would bust them for fun.

It really is funny to see some ANNs use stock photos for their respective team members.

I remember ICOpress reporting tons and tons of ANNs last 2018-2019 and I even asked him for tips on how he would do it. It is somehow sad to see that he is not active on the community but his legacy remains forever.

Quote
Is @1018367 aware of what he is promoting? Or is he also part of the team. I am thinking of leaving him a neg and a flag, but I would like to give him to act accordingly in case he didn'y know.

I am a firm believer that if a person shares something on this forum, they have the responsibility to check whether the project is a scam or not. Before they share it, they should have confirmed it first before posting it since this affects everyone in the forum should a person invest in such project.
615  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Winning Wisely: Strategies to Protect Your Bankroll on: October 09, 2023, 11:37:24 PM
When luck isn't on your side, consider an immediate pause to prevent further losses

This will really save a lot of money from gambler if they will apply this. I observed that many gambler is indeed losing due to not being patient and chasing the huge win even though they are not lucky with their current bet result.

I was a victim of this too when I have consistent lose streak while I’m doing martingale strategy. I keep chasing and chasing until my bankroll deplete then my last roll using a penny bet makes it a win which will be a huge profit if I still have a bankroll to cover my strategy. My whole bankroll will be safe if Just didn’t push my luck to the limit and just pause for the day.

Just to add some additional information, always set your gambling expenses to a limit. Only bring the amount of cash you are willing to lose in a given gambling activity for you to really be compelled to stop.

If a person gambles using their credit card, then withdraw cash first and leave your credit card at home. If a person gambles online, then only set a limited amount of money for the day in order to prevent any over expenditure on your part.
616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Violence and anger could be a sign of gambling addiction in youths on: October 09, 2023, 11:21:15 PM
I have come to understand that having a negative impact on people close to you or your family could be a sign of compulsive gambling, to the extent that this boy start maltreating his junior ones, I mean inflicting pains on them.

This is actually a case-to-case basis as there are also other factors that can determine on why a person is abusive. Gambling can be the biggest factor on why his attitude changed over the years but there are also some underlying factors which definitely affected his personality and character.

Quote
The other two cases that I knew about gambling addict ( one in the family ) also have something similar to this behaviour, anger issues, criminal activities like burglary and disrespect of parents, I think countries with high rate of struggles and hardship will always have this type of problems.

Is there any effective way to make sure youths stays where the are told to stay instead of looking for quick money? Gambling isn't the solution to poverty it will possibly drown you deep into more poverty.

I agree with your statement.

If a person is too deep in the gambling environment, illegal activities such as robbery, etc. is a natural response for them to satisfy their cravings. They tend to lose judgement and discretion in which everything becomes clouded.

I do think that in order to combat addiction in youths, it must start on the very household on which the child is growing up. Like what I always mention, prevention is better than cure.
617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If we lose in gambling, what do we need to do? on: October 09, 2023, 11:07:56 PM
Gambling is a place to spend money, although many gamblers consider casinos to be a place to earn money. But in reality, more gamblers lose their money at casinos or gambling sites. So I think all of us here probably have almost the same experience, namely losing a lot of money gambling

I also lost money because I lost on gambling, but maybe not that much. But I know there are people who spend a lot of money for gambling. In your opinion, what should we do if we have lost a lot of money on gambling? Do we keep gambling to win so we can cover up previous losses? or stop and work normally and leave gambling? Or do you have other suggestions?

Technically, you have two (2) choices:

Either you stop; or
You continue and recover your losses.

Generally, stopping gambling after losing a certain round would be the common answer for everyone to say. This not only helps you prevent experiencing a losing streak but this is also better long-term. But in all honesty, it is easier said than done especially if the money involved is relatively huge.

Though that may be the case, I would still suggest that you try with all your might to resist gambling and recovering your losses. This is what the house wants everyone to experience- to feel the endless cycle of gambling of winning/losing.
618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Education. on: October 06, 2023, 11:34:44 PM
Instead of outrightly banning gambling, how about if the concerned countries officially include gambling education in their academic syllabus, just like sex education is taught in schools. Gambling education will teach the young ones the dangers of gambling and promote moderation in gambling. Will this not be a better way to handle the gambling cases?

I think instead of focusing on gambling addiction, schools should have like a mandatory subject talking about the dangers of any kind of addiction which teaches them to do things in moderation.

Having a designated subject primarily for gambling addiction only can be both a boon and a bane- it can be a boon where it can teach students to be more careful with their decision into not trying gambling at all; and it can be a bane when curiosity sparks with these students for them to try it.

In conclusion, I highly recommend that in the early levels of education, students are being educated on the dangers of being addicted to a certain activity so that it can be an all encompassing lesson that applies to every addiction.
619  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lottery with a twist on: October 06, 2023, 10:44:06 PM
Any thoughts? Is there any similar projects out there?

There’s no known lottery project here that has a mechanics like this which distribute prize on random user. It’s more on a raffle than a lottery since user is not betting on a picked numbers but rather the smart contract is just selecting entries as winner.

L0tt0.com is your nearest competitor for lotto based game. The only problem on this kind of game is every round can be useless whenever there’s no participants aside from one user who place bet compared to a regular lotto games which the casino provides prize pool for players to win with their bet. This game is more on just PVP.

I definitely agree with your statement,

This is not lottery perse- but more on the spirit of a raffle where winners are chosen on a given time-frame. Unlike traditional lotteries where numbers are being picked by the minute, these follows more on the side of a raffle.

While this kind of proposal is decent, I do not think that people would try and spend $10 on a given ticket due to the circumstances involved. In our country, the ticket for the lottery costs less than a $1 with the chance of winning a huge amount of money in the end.
