1521  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Nigerian Man Won $51,000 in Sports Betting With a Bet of Just $1.072 on: October 21, 2022, 04:58:02 PM

Don't you all think that in the course of we trying to show off this kind of winnings to friends, families, colleagues etc, we end up drawing known and unknown enemies to ourselves?
...
What is or are your opinion(s) on this matter?

This is the first thing that popped into my head when I read the article you shared.

The first thing that you must do is to keep the excitement to yourself. While it may be difficult not to celebrate, you are actually putting yourself in a dangerous position to your neighbors and peers. Given that Nigeria is a relatively poor country, that kind of amount can definitely turn upside down the life of a person. In addition, your life can be potentially at risk once the information spreads as kidnapping and violence is rampant in that country.

I do hope that the person claiming the money manages it well. Personally, I would leave their country and start a new life somewhere else which is safer.

1523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another opportunity is coming, a time to hold on: October 18, 2022, 11:05:24 PM
I don’t think the bottom is in for this bear market yet. We will see a new low but even so now is a good time to buy because we will see the price hit over 100k after the next halving. Anything you buy under 30k is a great buy. Cheap prices will not last for long though so you will have to act.

Interesting- so the price after the new low will adjust and correct itself on the price on the market? I really think that the 2024 halving will significantly increase BTC prices in the market, which is the reason on why majority of the people have been planning on HODLing.

Well, a profit is a profit no matter how huge or small the gain is. What matters is that people grasp the idea of BTC and investing comes as a matter of convenience rather than a necessity to most people. I just hope that before 2024 comes, majority have decided to invest and HODL their coins in order NOT to miss this opportunity.
1524  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: In-Person Bitcoin Exchanges on: October 18, 2022, 10:41:13 PM
Hi guys,
My first post here. I've notived a few retail stores in Toronto which pretty much buy/sell your bitcoin in person. Charging a 5% rate.
Has anyone had any experience with these types on in person exchanges? From a business perspective are they lucrative? It's an interesting business model as you can also teach crypto in your community. However, I am unsure of the safety of random people walking in your store...
Any input would be appreciated, i would consider such a venture as long as it falls in legal terms.

I highly suggest to avoid visiting those kinds of places as they are relatively unsafe both for your safety and for your BTCs.

You can sell your BTCs p2p via some local exchange or thru Binance if you really want a secured and guaranteed transaction. While there may be some retail stores selling/buying BTCs, they are generally unsafe due to its unpredictable nature. Go with something that has been proven over the years, which is either use Binance p2p or your local exchange.
1525  Economy / Gambling / Re: STAKE SCAMMED $100K AND NOT REPLYING EMAILS FOR 6 MONTHS on: October 18, 2022, 05:19:15 PM
DO NOT PLAY AT STAKE, THEY ARE HOLDING MY MONEY FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS

NO REPLY TO EMAILS, NO REPLY TO FORUM MESSAGES AND LIVE SUPPORT IS NOT REPLYING EITHER

DRAKE PROMOS COSTED TOO MUCH MONEY AND STAKE IS SELECTIVE SCAMMING NOW, CAREFUL!

Again with these allegations- always substantiate your claim with evidence and proof claiming that a gambling website (Stake, in this example) scammed you. Accusing a reputable gambling website without any proof or anything whatsoever will hold no water against your claim. Worse, you are only putting yourself in a situation where people would accused you of defamation against this gambling website.

Let us all try to be civil and post all the necessary proof to support your claim. Without any, those are just empty words that will only draw attention against you, OP.
1526  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be patient, don't get discouraged. on: October 18, 2022, 04:05:59 PM
....
-Your opinions are valid and we want you to stay. Big things always start small, don't get discouraged because there seems to be no attention on your post and no merits given regardless of your activity.

-Even if your contribution get deleted and you get criticism for your point of view, don't get discouraged, work on yourself to be better, but still remain yourself.

-If it is taking you very long to increase in ranks and you almost feel like it will not be possible anytime soon, don't get discouraged, you will get there.

It is okay to take some time off, but please do not cut us off from your perhaps golden contribution.

This is very inspiring that you shared, OP.

The problem stems from newbies who focus too much on ranking-up. I mean, that kind of goal is not bad perse, but it somehow ruins your expectation whenever you try to create a discussion/thread in this forum. Rather, their focus should be centered towards overall contribution in which ranking-up and gaining merits would be the secondary purpose or by-product of your contribution.

To all newbies who are still struggling to grasp the idea of cryptocurrencies, keep your head in the game. Every veteran was once a beginner and a newbie- do not get discouraged and learn from your journey!
1527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bear Market More Important Than the Bull Market? on: October 18, 2022, 03:38:10 PM
Both are important aspects that makes BTC an investable cryptocurrency. Without experiencing any bear or bull market, neither profit would be possible. Unfortunately, another person's lost is another person's gain- and that what the stock/cryptocurrency market is all about.

But in all honesty, there can never be an absolute bull/bearish market. Those two (2) kinds of market system will always be present as the price of BTC is very volatile in nature. Like inflation, it is definitely helpful but too much of it can cause serious economic problems if left unsolved.
1528  Economy / Economics / Re: The whole tipping culture in western countries is unfair and totally wrong! on: October 18, 2022, 01:24:56 PM
I do think that people are accustomed to tipping the service establishment and works. Personally, I learned to tip via watching my parents and/or other people do it. So I do think that there is this societal pressure that comes with it- the idea that you have to tip when it comes to people who do service.

Earlier, I had my haircut and I paid using e-cash. Since I do not have any cash with me, I really felt bad not leaving a tip for my barber earlier; though I told him that I'll add him twice the tip the next time I visit him.

Bottomline is, we have been accustomed to this kind of service ever since. I guess what you mentioned OP is another view and perspective about tipping; but I doubt that people would actually start to follow it anytime soon.
1529  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 on: October 18, 2022, 12:48:48 PM
Yes, in the end it all comes down to making a profit. Niemann has cheated in 10 cash prize tournaments, and chess.com is ready to defend this point of view in court (since they published their report). It surprises me that after such a scandal, there are still no sanctions from FIDE - they just created a commission to determine if he cheated in games over the board.

Confirmed swindler, thief and scum without any problems participates in the US Chess Championship.
By the way, today there will be an interesting game between Niemann and Caruana https://www.uschesschamps.com/2022-us-championships/pairings-results

When COVID hit, I think that it was the time that he executed the opportunity of cheating. Lots of sports and companies slowly shifted to that kind of setup and security was not that stringent compared now. Given that most sports/companies have adapted to this kind of setting, they now have all the means of security in detecting these kinds of cheats.

What Niemann and the other cheaters did is just a disgrace to Chess. More importantly, he cheated on multiple tournaments that involved cashed prizes. I wonder what kind of prohibition and ban would Niemann get and the other FM-GMs as well.

Anyway, I do seriously recommend the game that transpired between Magnus and Korobov!

The data shows that Niemann began to cheat long before covid. As for the ban, the paradox is that the online competitions in which he cheated were not held under the auspices of FIDE, and there is no evidence (there is no direct evidence, there are indirect ones, but this is not enough for "legal" actions) that he cheated over the board.
Thus the swindler and thief (who was caught and admitted it) continues to participate in FIDE competitions. I am simply shocked by this nonsense and impotence of FIDE officials.
To be fair, we should admit that FIDE behaved this way towards cheaters for a long time - they catch only the most impudent ones who don't even try to hide. For example, Rasius, about whom absolutely everyone knew that he was a cheater, but he cheated for several years without any problems despite the complaints of his rivals.

What do you think should be the proper sanction given that Niemann participated in various tournaments where he cheated and won the cash prizes? I do think that we need to see a statement from the camp of Magnus about this allegation. It is has been dragging the Chess scene for a while now and it is not definitely helping in terms of its popularity amongst people.

Given that Chess.com posted a list of GMs who cheated on their website, a rule must be implemented prohibiting/punishing these players, and not Niemann alone.
1530  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Zero KYC tolerance gambling platforms on: October 18, 2022, 09:49:26 AM
Is KYC verification very important to crypto gambling websites or this has something to do with their regulations rule? Where can one gamble with zero verification requirements?

It is not just important but it is also essential for regulatory purposes. Due to the emergence of the popularity of online gambling websites, the government took the opportunity to tax it for revenue purposes and regulation. The most regulation that they can implement is to mandate these online gambling websites to provide KYC identification to its users.

If possible, operating without KYC is the ideal situation since most users consider this as a "make or break" feature but these companies have no other choice but to comply with strict regulations imposed by the government.
1531  Economy / Economics / Re: Education on: October 17, 2022, 11:43:10 PM
Education is not the only key to success anymore, then we all be believe that, if we don't go to school, we can't make it, the country is something else, we should find all means to be a successful person in life, education is good, but we have to find all means to make it, country which a graduate is riding bike, someone that spend thousands of naira to go to the school, is now riding bike, imagine,

So is always good to invest in once self, than working under someone, which you won't have time for yourself,

Just an advise

Education gives you the opportunity of landing a successful job in the future. While it may not be an absolute formula of guaranteeing you a job, it gives you, however, more chances of being successful. Some may argue that finishing education is immaterial in becoming rich- while this may be true, the chances of one not completing education and becoming rich is significantly lower compared to someone who finished school.

Bottomline is, go to school and finish your education. While some may not see its true value, you will definitely see its effects once you graduate and look for a job. And of course, don't forget to always invest in cryptocurrency since its value may potentially skyrocket in the next halving this 2024.
1532  Other / Archival / Re: What casinos are safe on: October 17, 2022, 11:16:04 PM
Hey here. I want to try myself in casino playing, but I am really afraid of being scammed. Few years ago I lost a huge amount of money that I saved for a long time..

There are tons of trusted online casinos being advertised here in this forum. If you are looking for such, I recommend checking out the gambling boards and see the signatures of the people posting. An online gambling company who has the funds allocated for maintaining a campaign signature is prima facie evidence of its genuineness as it is being properly maintaned.

Personally, I would recommend almost all online gambling companies being advertised in this forum with the exception of 1xbit- so stay away from it at all cost!
1533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What efforts have you made to raise bitcoin awareness in your community? on: October 17, 2022, 11:05:16 PM
None, to be honest.

I don't want anyone to know that I have Bitcoin, and only the people close to me who I would trust with my life know. Everyone else, when the subject comes up, I get interested in it and ask questions as if I don't know much. It's funny because there are more than one who goes as an expert because he has read two things and has no idea.

While others may have the mission to spread the awareness of BTC to their community, I do think that such responsibility does not fall within my hands as I am not the person best to explain what BTC is. I actually tried raising the awareness of BTC during my college days where I integrate BTC to my presentations. I had this speech class where we had to present a topic impromptu. I chose BTC and explained it to my class in chances of at least informing them about it.

Though that may be the case, there are certain people who are really called for this kind of mission. Lots of noble users have posted their journey in spreading the awareness of BTC and I do think that they are in the best position to do such.
1534  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Youtube Scam in Action on: October 17, 2022, 03:35:29 PM
There's only one advise i must give regarding watching videos on YouTube, don't click or watch except you have the clean idea of the particular user who happens to be someone you followed back to back and trust thieir genuity in delivery, have seen alot of videos who's content does not tally with the title of what they are symbolising, we need to be very careful because before you know it, you've gone far with them, visual aids is one of the simple ways they quickly get attention through online videos, better not to smell what you won't eat.

Most scams that I have witnessed involved adding some random links to their thread/videos where it would direct you to a poorly made website. Like what I always mentioned to posts like these, prevention is always better than cure. You have the responsibility to avoid dubious links such as what OP posted since you absolutely have no guarantee about its safety and security.

Again, there is nothing free in this world. If a website claims to have some free BTCs, then always have some doubts about the giveaways that you see. If someone messages you telling to invest in a certain project, always be skeptical and alert.
1535  Economy / Gambling / Re: Regulations & Gambling projects on: October 17, 2022, 03:25:54 PM
When regulation takes a hit on crypto prob in few years from now what will happen to gambling projects like Roobet and others? I've discovered one gambling project claiming to be regulated but there is nothing to prove that, anyway, can regulation affects gambling projects in future that's all I seek.

With toleration comes regulation by the government. Bearing this in mind, the government might implement some sort of taxing scheme where they could either tax your gambling winnings or the online gambling website itself. Expect these gambling websites to be more strict when it comes to KYC.

In the Philippines, our local exchange has become very stringent to the point that it asks for extra KYC documents in order to use their features. In addition, they can also lock your BTC wallet if they discover that you receive funds coming from an online gambling website.

With your question OP, expect that the TOS of these gambling websites to include certain prohibitions and regulations due to the implementation of the government of taxing laws.
1536  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you be influenced by your favourite celebrity? on: October 17, 2022, 03:11:57 PM
Interesting question- while I want to say that no celebrity can influence me in my choices or convince me into gambling, there is that possibility that I might actually attempt to gamble just because a certain person (not necessarily a celebrity) gambles.

For example, I watch and play tons of competitive online games ever since I was a kid. I also do watch streamers play the games that I play from time-to-time. Whenever I see them gamble some crates, I somehow get influenced by their actions seeing that they win some rare in-game items.

While a celebrity may not influence me from gambling, a certain person (e.g. streamer, famous player, etc.) may influence and convince me to gamble out of curiosity and luck.
1537  Economy / Gambling / Re: To what extent do you chase anonymity while gambling? on: October 16, 2022, 03:28:01 PM
Hey guys.
Choosing crypto in casinos has always also to do with more anonimous gambling.
Anyway I'm curious how important is anonimity to you when you pay & play?

In general, cryptocurrencies are anonymous in its transactions. The fact that you can send your coins under the blockchain may utilize its anonymity factor when using your cryptocurrencies. But in gambling, most online gambling websites have required KYC in order for the protection of both the gambling website and their users.

Generally, anonymity is essential in doing transactions but you have to surrender this privilege when you gamble. Online gambling websites have to follow on their respective local laws and this requires KYC in order to operate.

Personally, I do not mind anonymity in gambling since I only gamble a handful amount of resources. Maybe anonymity would matter if I were to use large sums of capital whenever I gamble.
1538  Economy / Gambling / Re: Do you visit the casino while travelling? on: October 16, 2022, 03:16:07 PM
Hey guys!
Some of us are occupied in i-Gaming industry, some are just players...but apart from leisure&profession there are still old good offline casinos all around the world.
Today Im thinking if visiting an offline casino is out of date or still a good place to visit while travelling?
Do you visit casinos when you travel? How often? Which ones?
Let's remember of old good times Cheesy

I have only visited a few countries but I always hesitate whenever I see some offline casinos on the road. Maybe it is the overall ambience of the place and the country which makes me somehow uncomfortable gambling. Maybe it is the reason on comfortability as I am very much accustomed gambling on our local casino in the country.

But I do believe that if I visit Las Vegas in the future, I would probably try and their casinos just to experience it as a whole. I also think that it is impossible NOT to gamble when you are in Vegas, as everyone gambles there.
1539  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Split the prize or Reroll? on: October 16, 2022, 02:51:37 PM
Let's say you join a give away with other user and both have to select a number between 1 and 10, you go for 7 while he goes for 9. The winning number is 8.

If the prize is 0.1BTC what would you do? Split the prize and walk away with 0.05 or Reroll to gamble for the full prize?

Interesting question- it is either you go big or you go home.

I think this would depend on the circumstances of a person. If a gambler wants to receive a winning prize no matter what, then going with the safe choice of splitting might be the ideal answer. But if the gambler wants to gamble for entertainment, adrenaline, and for the money, then experiencing the "go big or go home" choice of reroll is the answer.

Personally, I am a safe guy where I always choose the safest option. I would prefer to split the prize and call it a day and use the proceeds to gamble again in my designated gambling website of choice.
1540  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Currency should be Integrated into School Curriculum on: October 15, 2022, 11:20:28 PM
I do think that as a stand-alone subject, it would be relatively difficult to teach about BTC in the school curriculum. It must be integrated and explained by applying it in our current financial and economics for easier visualization and application. I also do think that an elective as a college class would be a great idea, given the fact that lots of students are now curious about knowing and understanding the fundamentals of BTC and its effects.

I just hope that the government would allow it to be integrated into our school curriculum without any repercussions. Lots of countries nowadays have started this movement and I hope that they do it soon.
