my reasoning is that for the first time, ever, we have been dealing with a company who have not only turned out the most efficient hardware from their own IP but have also flown in the face of all other h/w manufacturers by striving to assure 100% customer satisfaction.
in this industry, it's unheard of.

I just want to say, if you don't win this Guy, well done for rounding up such a skilled team, and for everything that you do to service our mining requirements. Although you are obviously driven by the profit which keeps you in production, so are we and I wish to applaud you, not only in that excellent customer service, but also in the actual hardware you have produced.

h/w manufacturers seem to be going backwards in terms of efficiency.
Had these specifications actually been shipped out last year by Hashfail they would have been worth having.
IMHO this rig is an entire year late. I hope they don't have masses of them in stock.

Why are you even selling the old boards then? Why not rip the chips out of the old boards and put them in new boards if you will get such massive improvements?

The reason I'm suspicious is because no other company using HF chips can get anywhere close to your specs. Hopefully you can send dogie a zues board to test and prove your amazing claims.

Admittedly, my sample size is small, having only ordered one unit, but here's my experience:
1.  They told me the unit should be delivered by June, but it was actually October.
2.  They told me it would use 100 watts, but it uses 300.
3.  They told me it would mine at 60 Gh/s, but it only does 57.
4.  My unit died after less than a month of use.

Maybe not everyone is experiencing fails number 3 and 4, but fails number 1 and 2 were universal.  BFL is a terrible company.  Why would anyone apologize for them?  Are you on the payroll?

I've been running some numbers, one thing I see is that the SP-20 vs. the S4 is an under volt advantage that gains you money at the wall in favor of SP.. I may be wrong, but if they come out with new tech ANY batchs of the S4 won't even come close to ROI.. I bought some of the FIRST S4s to ship, and they are no where close to ROI . Even with the coupon, I can't pull the trigger when my first several S4's are so far under water. It takes me almost 15 days of mining to cover electricity cost alone. Anything after 15 days goes to the under water s4's .. This late in the game on the 28nm tech I can't find a reason to grab more. Anyone else have thoughts on how to make the s4 more profitable ?

Didn't Cointerra miss their specifications on their first ASIC? The 28nm TerraMiner IV was sold as a pre-order for a 2TH/s unit... didn't the actual product perform at 1.6 TH/s?

I heard there was quite a high percentage of failures too: units that wouldn't hash.

Now would be a good time for some TerraMiner IV customers to chime in with their experiences.

Given their terrible track record on a mature process like 28nm, the chances look pretty grim that they will deliver 16nm on spec and on deadline. People pre-ordering this product should be prepared for endless delays and excuses for why the miners are not available yet. Wanting a refund once the product is 3 to 6 months late? Objectivity goes out the window in both these cases, and that's why product evaluations and comparisons should be done by independents like the UK's Which? organisation or JD Power, leaving technical testing to properly qualified, independent experts.

That's 1,000 units in mid-December 2013. For the math-challenged among you, 1,000 is 2% of 50,000.

20-30 units per (working) day is another 400-600 per month. So likely 2,000-3,000 RMAd units by March/April.

There will very likely be a price drop on these units, but yes, its mainly the chips that aren't competitive.

That would be a great service to the bitcoin community.  I think there are two major dynamic shifts that happened this year, and many who are new to bitcoin may not understand them.

The first is that many (not all, I'm sure) of the hardware producers are in fact self-equipping mining operations.  Their interest in customers, if it ever existed in the first place, is probably viewed today as little more than a source of interest free, off-books, financing.  In the limit, the real too-clever-by-half guys probably even imagine that they can pay those loans back with obsolete equipment they have depreciated from using it in their own mining.

Differentiation of the hardware companies along those lines would be very beneficial, and a source of how those preyed upon can seek redress would be even more important.

The second major dynamic, of course, is that self-mining is rapidly dying in the exponential growth of the hash power / difficulty.  Anyone with a static endowment of hash power in their basement is facing a productive half life measured in months if not weeks.

That wouldn't likely be a theme of what you're talking about, but anyone who read such a thread would, probably, figure out the common denominator:  guys who had to wait for their hardware had no return at all.  Unless totally blinded by greed, the extrapolation to "guys who would have gotten it right away would still have little return" would follow (unless lied to by the vendors in forecasts).

A prison record means nothing in this day and age. Most governments have declared open war on basic human rights and have no interest in protecting anyone from anything. With so much money to be made on the prison industry, huge volumes of people are convicted and locked on nothing but the word of a cop and their inability to afford a defense; default guilty. The so-called 'justice system' has become nothing but a false prosecution racket. If you're not rich, you're guilty. Period. I put zero faith in what it does or says. A prison record is not a blemish. It is dangerous to be right when government is wrong. It doesn't make a person dirty or bad. Failure to defy that would surely make you so... Forget that bitcoin exists almost exclusively because of government's evil incursions? There would be no interest in BitCoin if government laws and currency were valid.

Do you know how many class action suits I've gotten settlements for and had no idea I was even getting screwed in the first place? Sears. IBM. AT&T. Sony. Microsoft. Intel. Do you cast doubt on them to deliver their products? They screwed over billions of people!

Anyway....

Prediction, speculation, or just plain making stuff up... The attitudes and behaviors presented here only solidify my faith in BFL. There is no reason to defend one's self from whining jerks that inflate irrelevant lies. BFL has delivered before. Setbacks with new technologies are not unusual. It happens to every tech company I've heard of.
