obviously they are saving parts, i got only 4 voltage regulators instead of 8 per board
this causes high temperatures and high power consumption...(and lower Hashrate)

That's interesting.  Only 4 of the 8 are actually working anyway (as seen with bertmod).  They probably realised this and decided not to pointlessly install 8.  As such, it shouldn't make any difference.

Margins. Turns out they weren't necessary. Hence the welcome drop in wattage at the wall.

Will this conflict with any firmware versions?

It's all in the details, literally.
How about a clear answer to my 2 numbered questions above?
Bump.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg3307588#msg3307588

Surely with your obsession for detail, it must be eating you up not to reply to these?

P.S. KNC still shipping in those unsuitable single walled boxes? Three whole questions for you to answer, in detail.

P.P.S. How come on the controller board there are 6 terminals, but shipped miners are only being shipped with 4 in place? Four questions, awaiting details!

Bump bump.

Questions consolidated for our details man who loves to give people what they want:

How about some answers to these questions:
1. How come the sub-standard cgminer from KNC?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=18313.msg3294238#msg3294238
This post suggests the KNC version is not doing a proper work restart. Any reason KNC are spending 9 days releasing firmware updates that doesn't even fix these issues? I'm fairly sure the guys who wrote cgminer could sort this quick fast.

1.5 Update: It seems the binary for knc cgminer has not been updated at all in any of the firmware updates (source: irc). How come? There is plenty to fix.

2. How come boards are bbq'ing?
I know you wrote a post a few days ago trying to blame people for unplugging cables while the miner was still powered up, but that was scapegoating. There is plenty speculation on the hardware issues causing, but a total no-answer on this from you/KNC. Customers are worried about burning to death in their sleep.

3. Are KNC still shipping in those unsuitable single walled boxes?

4. How come on the controller board there are 6 terminals, but shipped miners are only being shipped with 4 in place?

Five questions, awaiting details! thx

Sounds like the Jupiters can possibly be upgraded to 800GH+ with two more cards.  No room in the case though.

2 x 0.92
1 x 0.93
1 x 0.94 (this one today at the datacenter of anotherhosting.se)

4? Ouch! Out of how many?
Either way, guess we now know why they are only tested for 30 seconds. Probably with a fire extinguisher at hand.

Seriously though, thats not good, at all.

Not any more. They only ship with 4.

It's not a problem making/buying a bigger case.

I would like to know why only 4. KNC not going to support upgrades for their loyal customers?

Over to obama for the detailed answers.

I think the case is pointless anyway.   They should of flat shipped it and just let us put on the heatsinks.   The way they slap on the fans (and how they fall off) I wonder how great they paste and mounted the heatsinks.   I have very different temps on mine.

That could mean a lot of things of course, but it would be one less thing to wonder about if we assembled most of this ourselves (and would of gotten mine a week earlier no doubt)

I think many of us were relying on it, that's why we are miffed these 2 extra terminals were removed and make the jupiter a fixed 4 board system.

And so "upgrade" now seems to mean "buy a completely new one".

I can confirm is a stale party indeed, flushwork seems not very good. Got a huge rate of stales.

Well, I guess that when they will iron out the firmware we will see some impressive performance on knc gear

They were probably safeguards/margins in case some terminals did not work. In any case, no one promised 6 ports. I expect to be able to upgrade Saturn to Jupiter, but not further.

O'Rama, do you know their position about having Olivas working on cgminer implementation? Will it happen, it won't, they don't know yet?

Any idea if they plan to release the code soon?

Which reminds me - we need an update on the KnCMiner Network Protection Statement from https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-24

We take it this is no longer gonna happen, what with KNC China website ready to sell sell sell??

On www.kncminer.com homepage:

That's another Q for obama. Added to list, renumbered for ease of reply to each one individually - in detail:

How about some answers to these questions:
1. How come the sub-standard cgminer from KNC?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=18313.msg3294238#msg3294238

2 Update: It seems the binary for knc cgminer has not been updated at all in any of the firmware updates (source: irc). How come? There is plenty to fix.

4. Are KNC still shipping in those unsuitable single walled boxes?

5. How come on the controller board there are 6 terminals, but shipped miners are only being shipped with 4 in place?

6. What is KnCMiner Network Protection Statement now? We are aware they are planning to launch sales in China, which would obliterate any such protection and put the customers who initially invested in KNC at a major disadvantage.

Six questions, awaiting details! thx

I like to think I cover all bases and satisfy the larger audience as it were. I'd rather people were content then hungry.
We are hungry, as it were! See questions above. Very detailed answers would make us content. thx

in fact we had 4 fires/burnt caps so far

2 x 0.92
1 x 0.93
1 x 0.94 (this one today at the datacenter of anotherhosting.se)

5.
I had one make smoke early this morning.
I don't know what firmware was installed, nor did I bother looking.
Nothing was running very warm, and it was hashing like a mofo.
Errors were virtually nil.

Same capacitor as this one, but opposite side of the board.
The boards seem to be omnidirectional (from my recollection) so it could be a common mode failure.
http://m.imgur.com/a/hyA3a#/a/hyA3a
My burned cap looks similar, in that it looks as if the pick&place machine didn't center it on the pads.
(the distance between it and the cap it is next to is shorter than the distance between two good caps)

I feel like Charlie Brown, never really seeing a good deal come through.

Yes there are freshly generated coins entering the wallet the refunds came from. That's not a covert mining farm minting coins to refund. That's your hosted devices up, and running. Hosting is live. The issue is configuring the API to your accounts and that is being sorted now. So those minted coins, approx. 175 were put towards the coins creditied. However the total credited will now equal 380 BTC today, so that's 205BTC paid from KnC themselves in addition to what's been generated. There a few additional coins to credit today as there was a mix-up with some guys in possession of multiple miners that were overlooked by mistake and that's being rectified. Hopefully you will be able to access your accounts very soon, but the pool works. The fact is each board has an individual owner and that owner has to be able to configure certain aspects of each board, choice of pool etc. You are therefore not given a proportional 'virtual' share of what's hosted, but actual physical and configurable boards located in your own physical space in the hosting center; i.e. your own board(s), and thus these need to be individually assigned, and that is considerably more laborious than originally expected.

Why don't they configure the miners to point to the pool/addresses configured in the account while we wait for the software/routing to be resolved?  They had to configure them somewhere, it just doesn't make sense given the information provided that they would point them all to their own pool account when it would have been just as easy to use our configuration and avoid the whole refund issue entirely.

I think what he was saying is that pool users configure their own mining scheme and using the pool, the pool gets a percentage and that percentage to the pool is what is being used for the delay refunds.  I suppose they would like to configure the miners for the users the best way possible as that would mean a larger amount as that fixed percentage - success of those in the pool is good for them.  But, given the type of people we miners are, we'd probably complain if we couldn't make our own choices even if not optimal.

Yes, you see them on a picture describing the slogan. It does not say anywhere that all 6 will be in use.

I am more worried about those capacitors. Everything else seems like nitpicking.

So you don't care if they sell 7000 Jupiters in China in the next month or two? Maybe in China they have another bitcoin, unrelated to the one you mine?

KNC promised to take care of the customers who gave them a free loan of millions to start their business. This ^ does not do that.

are most of the problems on Jupiters it seems?, if so, and caps are the problem, sounds like a controller board and/or power issue to me, but I'm not an engineer...lol
