I'm still getting the "No connections could be made because the target machine actively refused it" error in guiminer

It's only when I use it through my vpn, which I consider essential for using the internet.  Why is my VPN fucking this up?

I downloaded the latest guiminer before I made this post and am still getting the error.

Slush? You around bro?  Any idea how I can fix this?

Hardly anyone speaks English on this forum.

I'm pretty sure it starts hashing automatically after a few minutes of getting the error.  I'll report back.

Add this in the server.ini of guiminer.

restart guiminer, Try the alt server. All your setting should be there still.

Code:
        {
            "balance_host": "mining.bitcoin.cz",
            "balance_token_url": "http://mining.bitcoin.cz/accounts/token-manage/",
            "balance_url": "/accounts/profile/json/%s",
            "host": "stratum.bitcoin.cz",
            "name": "slush's pool(IPv6/alt)",
            "port": 3333,
            "url": "http://mining.bitcoin.cz"
        },

For the last week or so I have pointed each 50% of my hashes to slush and another merged NMC pool. On slush I got confirmed 1.42348140 NMC, on the other pool 4.15565092 NMC. In other words about three times as much on the other pool.

How come there is such a big difference?

The merged namecoin mining is only done by the portion of the pool that is still on the old get work protocol. Therefore only about 6% of the pools total hash power is going towards merged mining, and then divided by all who have the option turned on.

Is there a problem with the statistics page on Slush at the moment.

I seem to be only being credited with one of my workers out of 2 for several rounds. Strange that it seems it is every other round that one of my pool of shares seems to be missing.

Looking closely this definately seems to be the case. I have Catanonia.Worker1 and Catanonia.Worker2 and every other round one of them seems to be missing from my allocation on the stats page for the last day.  Normally I average 0.0028 per worker and one of the 2 hour rounds it was 0.0013 combined according to the stats page. Way way low. Many others like it.

edit : Numbers are wrong on the stats page, they don't add up.

Block No 230223    Total Shares 1391061   My Shares 200    Reward  0.00345409    Total  25.19777022

So 200 / 13910618 * 25.19777022 = 0.00366  About right with deductions

Block No 230220    Total Shares 18833717   My Shares 2646    Reward  0.00134827    Total  25.58996000

2646 / 18833717 * 25.58996000 = 0.00366  Massively wrong and seems if a worker and shares are missed here

this is happening every other round and is completely negating all of my profit with 2 cards running.

Edit : Appears this is by design. As it was the weekend I was testing out kit and playing some games for 8 hours and this seems to have affected my score and pool hoping code.

I'v been pool hopping for a few weeks now. Looking for the best payouts. And this is going to be a dumb question but where it says "Suggested difficulty" What should I put there?

ok so i put 7,673,000 in the suggested difficulty field?

When you edit a worker there is a drop down for your expected hash rate, it'll fill that in for you.

Yeah, sounds good.

jk, actually, you should set difficulty according to your connection, then hash rate. 1,2,3,...8....20... ect. Not 7 million.

Of course, if you're pool hopping.... then maybe 10 million would be a good difficulty.

Anyone else having problems connecting to the pool?

I'm using the mining proxy and diablo miner.

seeing this in the console
2013-04-08 11:16:03,666 INFO stats stats.print_stats # 1 peers connected, state changed 1 times
2013-04-08 11:16:50,778 ERROR proxy client_service.on_timeout # Connection to upstream pool timed out
2013-04-08 11:16:50,779 INFO proxy mining_proxy.on_disconnect # Disconnected from Stratum pool at stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333
2013-04-08 11:16:50,779 INFO stats stats.print_stats # 0 peers connected, state changed 1 times
2013-04-08 11:16:53,591 INFO stats stats.print_stats # 1 peers connected, state changed 1 times

never mind seems to have resolved itself.

Gramted, I'm new to this. But according to Slush's site, the payout formula is (25 BTC + block fees - 2% fee) * (shares found by user's workers) / (total shares in current round).

Can someone please check the math on this block to see if it holds true to the formula?

Total Shares: 18833717
My Shares: 1442
My Reward: 0.00036229
Block# 230220
Block Value: 25.58996000

By my math the reward should be closer to 0.0019

Thanks!

Two lines under that is this: This in fact is a simplified version here is the more complicated version

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.msg50002#msg50002

In a nutshell, the shares are weighted, to prevent pool hopping.

tiktoc, thanks for the info.  Based on that page things should balance in the long run.  However it still seems like it is well outside of tolerance based on the graphs on the link you provided.  Either way, I will keep at it.

On a side note, how come Namecoin rewards are no longer being awarded on a regular basis.  I am lucky if I get namecoins 1 out of every 10 blocks

"according to your connection" I have 4 GPU's on a wifi connection. What should I set it to? 4? (I am not A pool hopper) Just mean I been looking for a good pool.

The problem for me is: There was a block which took a long time to resolve, and my mining rig just self-restarted during the process due to my ISP problem, and the reward for that block became 1/7 of normal reward, this has never happened with other pools  Huh

I still don't understand the "Suggested difficulty" field.   Dose it have some thing to do with long polling? If my connection is bad do I set it higher or lower?
